USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter not working well - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

It takes a lot of fiddling to get sound through and when I finally can... I only receive audio, but when I speak through the Mic no one can hear me.
Others with similar experiences or fixes?

same issue here, damn,i getting slowly annoyed with rp2

Same as here
It seems it's a software issue not hardware because the phone recognize it as a charging device

Not really
5 months without solution
The only solution is to use wireless or type c headphones

What works for me is to reboot the phone with the dongle plugged in. If the reboot doesn't fix the audio issues then I unplug it and plug it back in before messing with the USB settings in developer options.

One possible fix that worked for me is this: Look at your jack male end, if it has three black lines on it, it won't work properly when plugged into the dongle, if it has just two black lines, it'll work just fine. For example if you have a cable, that has different ends, be sure to put the 2-lined into the dongle, not the 3-lined.

weird... trying again

I have been having this problem for a while and I can't figure out a solution.
When I plug in my kaiser to the computer, everything seems to work fine, however the active sync won't start and won't recognize the device. Also the device won't charge even though it shows the amber ligtht and the screen become brighter when I connect. I have the same problem with my car chargers.
If I use the HTC splitter (USB and Audio) everthing works the way it should be. But if I use a direct cable, bypassing the splitter nothing works. What is in that splitter that makes everything work? About 2 months ago, I didn't need a splitter to have it working. Is it a Rom issue?
Guys I do need help. It just drives me crazy.
Thanks.
Could be a slightly damaged mini usb connection. Have a look at the bottom of your kaiser and see if any pins are moved in the USB ext connector.
Yeah guy, I reported this issue with Kaisers & specifically Tilts 6 months ago. Have a look at your USB port pin on the device. If it is curved or the right side of the pin is slightly lower (Not arrow straight) then you may have sloppily placed your stylus on a soft reset. Sometimes this can be fixed by VERY GENTLY bending it back into shape with the stylus or another semi-rigid & smooth tool, that's if it not to badly jacked up. Because it charges in the home charger I'm about 90% sure that's your issue.
you guys are right. THe usb was slightly bent. Upon reading about the problem, I straighten it back however still the same problem. I am looking into getting a big magnifier to see if I see anything out of order.
In the meantime does anybody know a place in Toronto who is capable to fix this issue? I know a lot of people have problems but I don't want to send the device away.

Headset menubar icon

I'm having a problem with my phone thinking and acting like a corded headset is plugged in. I started having the problem using ZenEXP-0.9.6OC and thought maybe it was a ROM problem then flashed over to fresh 2.1 to no avail. A reboot doesn't fix the problem and neither do the two other fixes on here. It does go away briefly when I plug in my USB cord but comes back shortly afterwards. Has anyone else had this problem? It's become annoying having to run out to my car to talk through the stereo.
Sounds like it is indeed a hardware issue. Sounds like perhaps some sort of short in the headphone circuit. I would suggest reflashing the 1.5 recovery image and bringing it to a store or trying to fix it yourself. I would try using a bright light to see if you can see whats causing it.
So I RUU'ed back to 1.5 and took it into Best Buy (Where I bought the phone.) The lady told me to jam a 3.5mm headphone plug into it and pull it out repeatedly. She said that that was all anyone could do. I attempted that and it fixed for about 45 seconds (Long enough to make a phone call) and then it cut back out again. I tried taking my phone apart to see if I could see anything and there were no obstructions. What I'm wondering now is if I could customize a ROM to allow me to disable the headphone port all together. I never use headphones with the phone anyways and it would allow me to keep this phone without running the risk of having to switch to 2.1 RUU.
i've got the same problem for long ,i solve it temply with toggleheadset.apk ,,but it doesn't work in android 2.2..

For those with USB problems, do you have any other issues?

I gotta start work in a few so I'll expand on this later, but long story short, I'm having the same issue that various users are having with the USB port, where it refuses to charge the phone every now and then as well as connect to the computer.
I'll hopefully send it in should I somehow magically have warranty, but that's not exactly what this topic is here for.
For those of you with this similar issue, have you experienced other issues along with it? Jumping in and out of car mode was one I read up on.
I myself have been experiencing a media scanner service wake lock, as well as another that I can't find the culprit for.
I'll also add that I've tried restoring various nandroid backups, reflashing roms, and nothing is helping. I've been getting the same issue regardless the rom which leads me to believe its caused by the hardware issue.
Any input? This is driving me up the wall.
Rockin' a glorious Galaxy Note.
Yep.. Had the same issue....had to take mine to a service center where yhey replaced the usb also they did a special firmware update which supposadly causes the usb to fail.
Had it back now for 2 months and everything is sweet..

Its not a rom issue or kernal its strictly hardware issue. My usb port went bad just the way you have described it and I had apps opening and closing all by itself and beeping charging sound etc. I took a plastic fine (tiny) screw driver and pushed the usb pins inside the usb port with some force. I made sure I applied enough force to not damage the port pins but enough to push the pins (strip) straight inside the port. all my problems went away and my phone has been working wife ever since (2 month+).
make sure the plastic cover you use to protect your phone has enough space in the hole which allows the usb cable to connect freely. Mine was small so I had to cut it open. It made my usb cable contact to bent in a way when I used to push it in the phone to charge. I used a new cable and now I have no problems.

Phone allowing rotation on home screen/speaker phone always on

My stock rom M8 is answering and making calls in speaker mode all the time. Also, the home screen is allowed to rotate. I've read a bit about some other phones having this issue caused by a bad USB port. Has anyone reported issues like this with the M8? Plug in a USB cable and it's back to normal. The USB cable doesn't even have to be connected to anything on the other end for this to work. Unplug the USB and the screen comes on a couple seconds later with the issues back again. I'm hoping someone can tell me I don't have to replace my USB port to get it fixed.
Phone info:
Stock Sprint rom
Running ART (changed animation scales down to .5)
Only using 10B of 32GB of phone storage and 10.5GB of a 32GB SD
Factory reset the phone and it didn't fix
Using Tasker for managing Ringer profiles and mobile data connection
Chrome installed and updated
All phone updates are updated
Always use HTC charger and charging cord
Phone is babied (It sits in a case on a microfiber cloth on my desk at work )
HELP! My ears can't take anymore of the auto speaker mode.

It looks like your phone thinks its always on "Car Mode". Some cleaning of the usb connector might be able to fix it.
There is an extra pin in the phone usb connector that detects when its connected to car dock, desktop craddle or in usb host mode.if something is bridging it to the ground pin, this can happen.

I cleaned it with part of a Q-tip and some glass cleaner, then probed around in there with a needle. Nothing looked dirty. I ran a usb cable in and out a few times to see if it would work something out of the way. I'm leaving it dry out now (just in case it's a little moist) and we'll see what happens.

Well good luck. At last resort you can always try to fully restore with RUU

I spoke to HTC and our last resort before sending it in is to re-flash the stock Sprint RUU. Are there instructions on that somewhere? Or, is it better to just root now that it's somewhat busted?

Hit the second link in my sig and read over the section about RUU's. Links to the latest RUU can be found at the bottom of the first post. There is info on the same page as the RUU on how to run it.

"Can't play audio through adapter" notification when charging

Hello,
since a few days I get the message ""Can't play audio through adapter" from the android system when I plug in my charger. That's really annoying
The only way to get rid of this notification is to unplug the charger an restart the phone.
I never used a usb-c audio adapter, I cleaned the USB port & I tried different charger & cables.
The only thing I've changed the last time was to connect bluetooth headphones
Who can help with with this?

it is your USB-C Port , it is getting mixed signals (some pins are touching due to dust or damage), try cleaning it well with a touth brush , be gentle though. (dont use metalic objects to clean , nor use force , you will damage it )

You sure? I think its a software issue. It always happens when i remove the charger.
I tried removing the charger without electricity to be on and the error didnt appear.
I noticed that a USB connection to my computer does not work anymore. Also the selection of the connection type does not appear any more.
Has anyone tested if a reset to factory defaults helps?
I hope that it is not a hardware failure.

This was also my first idea, but I have cleaned it several times. It looks clean and not damaged. No dust or something else is inside.
What somehow indicates a software error is that even after disconnecting the cable the error message cannot be deleted...
I have the same probleme, only since today.
Whene I unplug the charge cable that notification appears. And its impossible to clear it. I have tried with different cables and always the same. Only one time when I connect to pc and disconnect, theres no notification. I have noticed tha the data conection with pc is unstable; depending of the position of the cable it works or not.
Firstly I think it was a software probleme, but now i think is hardware. The usb-c connector is damaged.
This week Ill try to use the oficial xiaomi warranty and tell you what they say me
The last thing i did was a factory reset - also without success.
I have now sent the device for repair under warranty.
Ok, please tell us when you have news of this
Had same problem. It is a hardware issue. The message used to appear when I removed charge cable, so I needed to reset and it was gone... But it would appears
again after a while.
Connection with pc was really unstable too. In the processe to fix it, I almost bricked the phone trying to flash stock rom through "mi flash tool", it always got "disconnected" before flashing process ends.
Need to change usb port: https://a.aliexpress.com/_msMZGNj
Got my phone back. It was a hardware issue. Something was replaced, now it's working fine again.

same problem with my poco x3 india version ..
I had the same problem with that message being permanently there but now it's sorted.
It only came up after I was in heavy rain but the phone did not get wet (or so I thought)
I used a hair dryer up the USB-C port and the message disappeared without any reboot, must of got damp or something.
Hope this helps
