I'm looking for this too. Just flashed Official Pie, now looking for TWRP.
Hopefully TeamExy will have his custom ROM up today sometime.
---------- Post added at 04:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:04 PM ----------
Tried to flash TWRP here https://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=78727616
But it didnt work.
Do we need to wait for a TWRP for Pie?
Havent there been ROMs based on the Pie BETAs? Maybe i did something wrong

If you have N950F Duos like me its pretty easy to root on Android Pie
Just download latest TWRP 3.2.1.0 or newest and put TAR file in Odin make sure you have OEM enabled in developer options...after that flash TWRP but after phone goes black you need press VOL+ Bixby and Power or just Vol+ and Bixby you need be fast....when you in TWRP swipe to allow modifications...than go and flash Magisk 18.1 latest ZIP....you need it have on SDCARD before start anything...if you got any error like "cant mount data" you need go first to WIPE and there wipe data its ask to type YES this format your phone and delete internal storage....
Magisk work fine no problems and twrp to. Good luck.

You'll lose secure folder, Samsung pay, any Knox apps.
Samsung health as well but there is fix for it. It's a simple build.prop edit.
Samsung pay only work around is you got to HAVE galaxy watch(what I've read is a MUST!)

1. You'll need the latest tar file not the img file for Odin.
2. You'll need twrp recovery. Root don't know.

All files what you need is already here on XDA just download latest TWRP 3.2.3.0 and Odin 3.12.1 and latest magisk version 18.1(18100)
All procedure how root is the same as for Oreo
First put Magisk zip on sdcard
Than flash TWRP with Odin
After flashing boot into TWRP swipe to allow modification and flash Magisk...if you get error like "cant mount data" you need go to wipe and there wipe data but this wipe internal storage.
Thats all

Is it possible to root the "note 8 pie" without loosing encryption?
If you have to wipe your data because of install TWRP and magisk, is it possible to encrypt the phone again with TWRP installed?

It's been a while since i last used TWRP. But, the removal.of encryption is needed.in order to access system partition and make modifications. You can re-encrypt using TWRP, But every time you access the recovery, you will need to enter the decrypt key.

You restored your backups with the P9 Lite unofficial TWRP and still got sound working ? Lucky you, I guess. Apparently the dev also had the issue.

Whitch apps. Root needed or regular? If root needed just make a full unroot from superSu apk. then root again. If regular go manualy at the perrmision from application tap in settings.

Help a new owner out with a couple of root questions

Hi! So a brand new MI 9 owner here wondering about a few things in regards to rooting the phone (without TWRP). My main concerns are, 1) is there still a waiting period to unlock the bootloader? 2) Does rooting cause some system apps to not work properly? For example in my previous phone the cost for rooting (or unlocking bootloader) was terrible camera quality.. And 3) can I still get regular system updates without having to manually flash a full rom?
Oh and a bonus question! Has anyone tried if there's any way to use Xperia keyboard on this phone? It's the only keyboard that hasn't made me want to go toss my phones in the river...
Not sure if there's any way to root mi9 without twrp, someone will hopefully correct if i'm wrong, but i've not heard of one - you need the advanced options twrp offers over stock recovery to flash magisk, but i may be wrong. Perhaps you may be able to extract ur boot img or something and inject magisk, so it's pre-rooted, but i don't know how to do that, sorry. Most peoples banking apps work in most places using magisk hide but i've read that some banks/regions require further work. Not heard of any reports of camera degradation tho.
Why don't you wanna flash twrp? Yes, there's a waiting period to unlock bl. Not sure about the keyboard, don't have it

Well this was at the top of the Mi 9 Guides, News & Discussion page here: [TUTO] Complete tutorial to root MI9 without TWRP (Keeps intact encryption of the MI9. Encryption is always good and I haven't needed TWRP much before so I figured that's the best option for me. Oh and no, there's no wait time anymore. You definitely want to flash Magisk via TWRP, because you will need a few modules there that really improve the phone, are absolute must haves.

I don't know what's your doubt, but mauronofrio's TWRP keeps the encryption per default.

Really? If the encryption is preserved with it, I don't see any reason not to go TWRP. Can't believe I've missed that, I try to do my research before posting Thanks for the tip!
Yeah, encryption is on, I've never had my phone with a decrypted ROM. Using mauronofrio's TWRP -35 currently.

It's shouldn't get encrypted after you flash "A605_oreo_forced_encryption_disabler".
Are you rooting it just now? If so please follow the guide, EVERY step is necessary, even the ones for "oreo".

I don't think it can cause bootloop.
Also after rooting your device may not boot from first try.
Ok, i flashed firmware throug odin, then i flashed twrp, after format data and reboot, i have flashed rmm, force encryyption bypass and then magisk and your fix. Now i have a bootloop.

Try without flashing fix right after rooting. Boot into it without the fix one time. I never tested it the way you're doing it.
It's not bypass. Lockscreen and fingerprint should work.
Safe folder and password autofill with fingerprint won't work.
Not work. On a605fn boot,loop.

Rooting causes boot problems by itself. It might bootloop few times or even stuck requiring forced reboot.
Please try the patch after you successfully booted into rooted system once.
If it breaks boot after that i will need logs to help. At least get /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops from recovery (get it right away or it will be overridden). Also that logs might include information such as serial numbers, IMEIs, mac-addresses. So you might not wanna put it with public access.
Hi , thanks for the Mod.
I have a question: Should this fix be installed after rooting the A605F with the traditional way for Pie which is done by installing:
forced_encryption_disabler,
RMM State Bypass
no-verity-opt-encrypt.
Then your fix?
Thanks in advance.

Right, install twrp through odin, make sure you boot straight into twrp from download mode. Then wipe date and reboot recovery not the system. Then flash the multi disable zip from the download link. Then flash magisk and reboot. All done
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TBp5hIrzIljYvOquI1H9L78YFtskxMDn/view?usp=drivesdk
So what if I already have twrp on my android 9 ,but now I wanna flash android 10
You got me there bud, My advice would to try a dirty flash to android 10 with Odin, but chances are you may need to flash twrp again not to sure.
Thanks, so what would I need to install twrp on my android 10(s9)
Just follow the instructions above with the link you need to flash that file after you flash twrp to stop the boot loop. Obviously you need Odin to flash twrp
Hi there does this work also for Andriod 10 latest UI2 on S9 ? Looking to root my S9 as well . Got it yesterday updated to the latest software . Tried to use it without root but too many apps that I use depends on it . Thanks

Do I needed to format data for this?
Can you install viper4android from xda labs on stock android 10 with magisk.
Install viper4android, reboot and recheck magisk to see if it still works.
Cuz for Android 9, the moment I install any magisk modules and reboot, the magisk breaks and I have only partial root access ( root access given to apps before still works but access to newer apps doesn't)
Also what do you mean by open stock recovery folder? You mean stock rom we download from samfirm

You mean stock rom we download from samfirm

yes, when you download the stock rom from samfirm, it becomes a folder with your stock .tar.md5 files inside, that's your stock rom folder I speak of. I do not know if it works for 9. give it a try and let us know. I have 10 and once you update, you cant downgrade due to samsungs fuse set.
FYI, you can remove the .md5 from the stock rom files for faster loading but odin wont check the integrity of the file.
also, did you know that viper is Los based? other custom roms base off of Los so just replace Los in the guide with the rom of your choice. should work but I don't know, I only stick with Los or Stock.

good morning friend I did all the steps you told me and it remains in the lineage logo I believe that the Roms you sent me is from an A705FN and my model is an A705MN that is why it does not configure because it stays in the logo and then it restarts me in twrp

my model is a705mn as it says in my signature below, your missing a step somewhere, did you format data properly? I flashed my device while writing the steps then again following the steps. also, I didn't post any stock roms and the los rom works with all a70 devices.
in twrp click wipe, then click format data and type yes and hit enter or the check on the keyboard.
when installing los, step 7 requires format data and step 9 requires format data so in the Los guide there will me format data done twice. these steps are for android 10 users, I have a guide for android 9 users that im transferring here but it will be some time. if your on android 9, pm me and ill link that guide to you, otherwise, try that format data or start from scratch by flashing the entire stock rom.

sorry excuse my friend so much but in the step of formatting what should I do or could you give me the steps to follow and sorry for so much inconvenience

as long as you haven't done anything else trying to get it running(if you have, start from scratch by flahing the entire stock rom using odin) otherwise, boot to twrp, click wipe, click format data, type yes and hit the check box in lower right corner, reboot.
if your on 9, use this guide, its a bit outdated but as I said im working on it.

Viper4android is not a rom
It's a sound driver
It's magisk module.
What I meant is can you install this magisk model or download viper4android v2.7.6.1 from xda labs, install, reboot and check if magisk is still functional on stock Samsung Android 10 rom.
Also isn't android 10 and android 9 bootloader of Samsung rom same... V5 bootloader? Why would it mess with downgrading.?

Just assumed it was a rom, my apologies. I will check that for you when i have time but ive tested many modules with magisk and they work as well as magisk. Android 10 was an overhaul, not the same rom as 9 but still V5, however, thats not really the issue other then for twrp. Samsung devices has a fuse set, when a samsung devices bootloader is upgraded, the device trips or as we say "burns" out a fuse. The device can not be downgraded. After an update from 9 to 10, if you power off, hold both vol keys and plug into pc, in download mode at the top will tell you if a fuse has been triggered and provisioned. This means you cant go from 10 back to 9.

Thank you. Please do report back with viper4android. It's proper working with magisk is critical for me.
I understand your explanation about e-fuse.
But then that last android 10 upgrade that had this charging pcb issue, people did downgraded back successfully to Android 9 then.
How did they do that if e-fuse got triggered?
Lets leave this argument here.
I don't want to sidetrack you from your twrp and root work for Android 10.
Please tell me how to delete img files from the AP file
Or do I just need to replace img files with lz.4 files

No one with a galaxy A70 has updated to Android 10 stock and then went back to Android 9 stock. Viper worked fine and i kept root.

Extract the contents of AP file using peazip into a new folder on your desktop. Name the folder AP. Inside the new folder will be the files you need to delete or move out depending on what guide you following. When youve made the necessary changes, repack that new folder with peazip into a .TAR and now its flashable. Do not worry about the .lz4 extension. To delete, as long as its not zipped, right click the file, choose delete. To move the file, right click and hold, drag and drop to wherever and choose move here.
Fyi everyone, ill be making some youtube videos of the instructions for newbies by end of the week. It will have start to finish including bootloader unlock.

no,youll be using twrp to root stock 10 this method allows you to keep root and use modules. twrp does not work with android 10 stock due to some changes in 10. it does however work with custom roms. you can either have twrp, custom rom and magisk root or have stock rom and magisk root.
