How come Chrome is running in the background? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Half of the time chrome runs in background.
Even if background activity is turned off for this app.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Didn't notice that anomaly with other apps.

Do either of you happen to use the Google app itself for you feed? If you do, when you click on a feed, it'll open it up in a mini version of chrome that's a bridge between the Google app and Google chrome.

No, I have it set to open links in Chrome.
I've disabled Chrome and gonna try Samsung browser for a bit

Apps continuously running in the background is the first thing I noticed when I upgraded to one UI beta. The stock email app was one major culprit for myself.

I don't use feeds, assistant or search and Google app is among disabled apps.
Something else is using chrome.

It maybe a glitch in Pie. I would recommend that you report this issue to Samsung. I am running the latest edition of Oreo and Chrome is never running in the background. As I never use it.

Samsung internet is doing it too. Wonder if it's because of using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in the web browser instead of using their apps. Did that to see if there was an increase in battery life, but I'm not seeing a major difference and will probably install the apps back. View attachment 4709226

Push notifications for websites maybe?

If you don't close that app it'll run in the background indefinitely with Facebook Twitter etc.

I just updated my maps to 5.0 through the market as well.
Slightly OT.
How is the updates supposed to work? I have maps 4.7, but i can see 5.0 in the market. Aren't programs supposed to be auto updated, or atleast give me a notify?

The first time there's an update it will notify you and if you want it to automatically update ,you have to check the box to enable auto-updates.

Also if an update has new permissions, you will have to manually accept/install it.

The Market isn't fantastic at notifying you in a timely manner. Just view the "my downloads/apps" section, and it will be listed as ready to update.

I can't even see them in Marked -> Downloaded...
All apps i downloaded my self are there, but not google maps, gmail and the others that where on the phone from the beginning... If I navigate to e.g. Google maps in market, the button at the bottom just says "Install".
Edit:

Same problem. Is the correct soultion to reinstall the preinstalled apps? Seems quite stupid?

Possible virus or malicious app

Out of the blue a few days ago I started getting intrusive pop-up ads while browsing the web. I use Chrome and Firefox.
Now, while web browsing, I get redirected to a site called downlund.com and Firefox asks how I want to proceed with the download. I always just back out.
I have avg and lookout on my phone, both of which say I am good to go.
Anyone familiar with this?

have u installed any apps manually? is so, what? have u installed any shady ad blocker apps?
something may have taken over your hosts file. if so, it may be an easy fix, but who knows what else it's doing. might be best to do a factory reset and be done with it.
you're the first instance I've heard of having android malware, and apparently confirming why android antivirus apps are a joke.

I just rooted and that took care of it. I didn't have ad blockers. The only thing out of the ordinary was 2048 game app. But it was the highest rated in the play store. Anyway. Thank you.

I spoke too soon. Its back. Its for an app I used to have. I uninstalled it a few days go, and just got this pop up tonight which links to the app in the play store.

no, and I've used that app before. Unless malware was injected into the app recently updated on the play store, it's not the culprit.
what do u mean by you rooted and took care of the virus? What did u actually do after rooting? had you previously downloaded any apps from the internet (not on the play store)?
Sent from Tapatalk using my xposed VZW G2
It seemed to have stopped after I rooted, but I spoke too soon. I did not download anything from the internet.
But after all that I downloaded ad away from f-droid and now it s gone. Adaway said AccuWeather from the playstore was the culprit.

[App] Lollipop Messaging App

Just download and install. First time you send a message with it, it will ask if you want to set as default. This has some nice improvements over stock.

I uninstalled it. The material design is nice but it bothered me that I had to keep the stock message app also. I had the stock app hidden with xposed GEL settings but it was still bothering me. I also uninstalled the Lollipop Gmail app and is now solely running Inbox for email. My fascination with Lollipop has come to an end. Lol

Unfortunately, as Caseyk621 mentioned above, the only way I was able to get the app not to FC was to leave the stock app in there. Maybe something to do with the ROM as it is a hit and miss for lollipop apps at this point and the ways to get the apps to work are different for everyone. As an example, I have not found a way to make the lollipop calendar app to work and I've tried every way imaginable. So, at this point I am over it, back to stability and functionality for me. The rest of the eye candy will come later. Inbox is pretty cool though and is now my daily driver. The new Play Music app is awesome and the new Google Now launcher ties everything together nicely.

I know this is an older post but you can access Google StreetView 3D. If you freeze Gear VR Services, open maps and go to a street view. In the bottom right corner you will see a black button. Tap on that button twice and you go into SBS 3D view. Put your phone in the Gear VR and you have a 360 degree view. Sensors seem to work pretty well and even the touch pad works. Hope this helps a Lil.

One UI - Pop out Video and Save video options missing

When using the stock Oreo ROMs, while viewing streaming videos in Samsung's internet browser, you could long press on the video, and an option to save the video would appear. You could also have the video pop out into a separate floating window. Both these options are missing in the One UI beta. Has anyone figured out a way to re-enable them?
