Is it possible to emulate CANBOX Decoder by Arduino?, there is CAN Shield and some exaples of arduino sketches that work with it
I can imagine handling signals like ACC, Reverse and Illumination, but I dont know how to deal with CAN TX/RX singnals on Canbox decoder.
On my HeadUnit i can choose in factory settings car make and type so i assume that MCU can recoignize car specific messages. But i cannot find format wchich CanboxDecoder and MCU talking - is it simple serial connection?
Why I am asking. I have Peugeot 508 - my canbox decoder is broken - i have problem to buy it - aliexpress sellers told me that they not selling decoders separatly. It is serious problem because in Peugeot there is no buttons on HeadUnit - it utilize car buttons on central console and steering wheel - they work on CAN Bus. The same story is for parking sensors - they utilize factory audio unit speakers.
When my original Canbox works there are some problems on Android Head Unit for example parking sensors works in opposite direction starting from nearest point from a car so i thint maybe if my HeadUnit cannot racoingnize signals properly maybe i can manipulate signals by arduino canbox decoder to modify signals .
Same problem here
I am starting from scratch. I can not get a cantus decode for a Maserati. I know the cantus codes for each button, but don't know how to transfer that to the radio.

I am wondering that AA is not using the GPS antenna of the car. May car (2016 SEAT/VW) has a built in GPS antenna. I would expect a much better signal from the car antenna on the roof. However AA seems to use the phone GPS antenna.
Is this always the case and part of the Android Auto specifications.? Is this the case with your cars as well?
I did check it as follows:
- Use googke maps in AA
- Deactivate GPS in the phone (press last used button and then home button to get to the settings)
- The Headunit in the car is saying "no GPS" so it's obviously using the phones antenna.
Update: My car doesn't seem to have an integrated GPS antenna. That the reason. However the test may be interesting for somebody with an integrated antenna to proof that it is used.
Strange. The web is telling a different story.
Gizmodo:
"I was told at Google I/O last year that Auto could leverages the car’s GPS antenna which should make it more accurate, and it should help to improve the phone’s battery situation."
Androidpit
8 Android Auto will be able to use in-car hardware
Android Auto runs on your phone, but that doesn’t mean it’s limited to your phone’s hardware. Apps will be able to access the car’s own GPS and GPS antenna (if fitted), steering wheel controls, the sound system, the car’s wheel speed, its compass and any mobile antennas, and there are moves to access car data from the vehicle’s own computer too.
Please see update in first post.
I have a Kenwood DDX9702S and a 2011 Honda CRZ that had nav from the factory. The Kenwood includes a GPS antenna passthrough, so I plugged in my OEM GPS antenna. I can confirm that Android Auto does not activate location services on my phone while using it.
I'm looking into buying an Android head unit, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the many options. As my car (Peugeot 207) has a CAN bus, one of the things I'd like to know a bit more about is the CAN bus functionality that Android head units provide.
I'm seeing that some units do have a CAN bus connection and can be configured for a specific car model (e.g. Peugeot 207, or Honda Jazz, etc). I do have some questions about this:
The most basic function would be to be able to use the steering wheel controls, so I assume this works? But what buttons do work (Volume up, down, next, previous, ffwd, rwd, source, and I also have a sort of scroll wheel (for menu navigation))?
A more advanced function would be the climate control (dual zone). Is this possible? I've seen it on some Volkswagen-specific units?
I have a multifunction display in the car, which is also operated by CAN bus. Do Android head units also provide functions to display data on such a screen (like song metadata, etc)
It would be nice to be able to manually configure the CAN bus mapping, in a UI or maybe in a file. Is that possible?
The Peugeot radio works on a comfort/fault tolerant CAN bus at 125kbps. Is that supported (I have had some problems with devices that only support high speed CAN bus which is not compatible on a hardware level)?
If such functions exist, does it differ per unit/brand? Can it be copied or migrated in a custom rom or apk?
I realise this is quite a broad question, but I hope you guys can share some of your experiences. Of course, experiences with a Peugeot (a 207 even) would be best.:good::fingers-crossed:
This is with a Px3 unit and a VW Eos, but... on my vehicle with CanBus, the steering wheel controls worked with no configuration - volume controls, back / forward buttons, the phone button launches the dialer, I believe, and there's a mic button that was for (a thoroughly useless) voice activate command on the original head unit, this acts as a mute button. At least on my vehicle with Canbus, there is NO ability to custom configure the wheel keys - they do the above, and that's the only option.
The multifunction screen doesn't have a page from my head unit - moving horizontally went between car data (speed/consumption/etc) <-> Setup <-> Radio, and with the new h/u, it just flips between setup and car data.
I haven't figured out climate control yet.

I have a Chinese unit with android 6.0 and I am unable to reset or reprogram steering wheel buttons on my Toyota camry. My friend has similar unit on his camry and he also can't program steering wheel buttons. Does this mean that all android radios for Toyota canbus come with buttons pre-programmed and they can't be changed?
Andy advice would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to try one of the Malaysk ROMs that are rooted and have XPOSED/MTCD Tools pre-installed (not all of his ROMs are like that though)

Short Answer: for most "Chinese units", you can't use the embedded app to assign functions to keys when you use CanBus
Long Answer... well, you'd have to provide a ton of more info on top of "I have a Chinese unit" if you really want a long answer But I bet you're only looking for a short pointer anyway

had same issue when using CANBUS adapter in my Toyota Fortuner. If you splice spare wires from your chinese head unit labelled Key1 and Key2 direct to the toyota steering wheel control wires (there should be 3 all up, Ground and wire 1 and wire2) and disconnect (cut) those wires from CANBUS adapter (external box) your head unit came with you should be fine. In my case its a simple resistance circuit, between Ground and each control wire.
Hello guys! I have a little problem, because I reset to factory settings and I don't have backlights in keys and I don't know what take settings for canbus, on Ford Mondeo(simple) and other don't work, I can't use control keys in wheel. How I take option "NO" on canbus setting I can use keys in wheel. What is good for settings on canbus? Maybe something I wrong connect? I read something about key1 and key2 cable, but I don't know... Cheers.

It's fine now.
I have an 2006 Ford Focus with steering control and an A-Sure 8.0 HU. I buy this HU because the descripton was, that the radio was with built in can bus modul and that wasnt true. The steering control has two extra wire für swc and has nothing to do with Can bus. In my car the swc wire are pin 6 and 8 in the B section of the quadlock (white/black and brown/yellow). On my radio it was cable SWC2 and GND.
I have a mondeo with Ford convers+ display between indicators cluster.
With the radio app, the drawing is shown on the convers with the frequency. With dvd the cd and track 1 is visualized on the convers. If active the music app (always original like the ones written before) the aux image on the convers is displayed. With any non-original app, radio, music etc. the information in the convers does not work, as if the original radio was turned off. Someone has modified something to make the aux function appear on the convers, because with off function it looks very bad. I have radio eonon Ga8161 7.1 (KLD px3)
Hello my friends,
My problem is simple, I have installed Android head unit to Opel Insignia 2010.
After connecting the rear parking camera, the unit always says just "NO VIDEO SIGNAL"
Here is what I have tried:
1. Connecting via cable: "yellow (video) in" to the unit, "yellow (video) out" to camera + power (black) ... after that I have tried all video settings: PAL NTSC .....
2. Connected same way with wireless signal transmitter. Power was connected correctly (led indicators was on).
3. Repeated point 1. and point 2. but this time I have connected an additional video input to the head unit.
This leads me to two options, brand new camera is broken, or there is needed an additional software or software settings.
Maybe I need to check the car fuse? Is it needed to have connected also the button for parking sensors ON-OFF?
Please let me know if you have some experience.
