ROM: Android One, MIUI, Havoc, Pixel Experience - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

In your opinion guys, what is the best option for daily use between all of those in the title?
Thanks in advance.

Stock used to be really good, but ever since Pie it has gone to hell. Their Pie updates have become a ****show.
MIUI from xiaomi.eu is actually good but the fact that you need to convert to 6X and that you mustn't use OTA updates or else you are gonna have to stay with it is what makes it not worth it.
Pixel Experience is so-so. There hasn't been a build for some time now and it doesn't have OTA updates so flashing every update becomes annoying(for me).
Havoc is what I'm using at the moment. It's the most stable and supported of all of the ROMs above I would say, and it does have OTA updates too. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the Google Sans font is kinda modified and it doesn't really look like the font on the Pixels, but I think there is a Magisk module for that which I haven't tried, yet.

Resurrection Remix.

Ressurection Remix , best ROM for Android phones 4 last few years ...

MIUI works very good. And the problem of 4/64gb freezing in A2 is solve. Facial recognition and DT2W and now it has double tap to screen off. Very awesome!

Looking for a solid Android 9 daily driver ROM.

Currently owning a X526 with Lineagos 15.1 but looking for a solid (as it can be) Pie custom ROM.
It is my one an only phone and I use it all the day to accomplish all sort of tasks.
I have some annoying hiccups with Lineage and I wonder if there is a ROM, working at least as good as Lineage.
I recommend arrowOS, pixysOS, pixel experience. I have now arrowOS and its good, smooth rom
I am using now Pixel Experience and its working fine, it has many options and GCam integrated.
I've been using Lineage 16 since October and it's working really well for me. Stable, practically bug free, camera works fine (I'm using Footej Cam), great battery life, fast fingerprint scanner. I'm still on the first release though there have been 4 updates since.
What hiccups are you facing?
Havoc 2.0 is the most stable pie rom

I'm using Pixel Experience as my daily driver and it works great. Really smooth and camera does not lag as in other roms (it used to but it has been fixed).
Really good all-around.

Agree.. :good:
I have the same question, and am deciding between PixelExperience 9 vs Lineage 16 vs Lineage 15.1
I just want to do this whole process once and not have to do it again cuz of some bug.
Maybe I should just keep the Android 6 it comes with?

Just keep Android 6. I don't recommend EUI either. Use a slimmed down EUI version. My favorite is smallEUI by aurel. It's the favorite custom EUI rom and the most stable as well. Go for version 3 because 4 is not yet finalized.

Just got a Mi Mix 2 in 2019 [Dev Talks] XASP Project

Well, call me crazy but i just traded My Pixel 2 XL against a Mix 2 some Hours ago...
I really like the Design and the overall feel of this Xiaomi Device. While i'm very happy with the Hardware are there the typical MIUI Issues around. Late Android Version Updates (Oreo Actually while i have used Q on My Pixel). So it's clear for Me to use AOSP / GSI on My Mix to stay up-to date with the latest Android Enhancements. The OS of My Choice is Havoc which is just well made in all Conditions. I was working on My Custom Patch (ROM Module) for Magisk aiming on the Pixel Devices but i will now support Xiaomi Devices running AOSP. I think with the right optimizations will this Device be even better (Camera, Audio, Features). I'm looking forward to upload a first Version of My Patch for the Mix 2/S which will be around this Week...
Hope the Community is read for a new Dev!
Well thank you for the work. My opinion is that you did a mistake giving the XL for the mix 2. Is a beautiful device but the updates come with "slow motion". I wish you the best and we are waiting for the new staff.

I'm feeling bad, but the need to optimize this Device to the optimum is now even bigger. The Pixel Devices are almost perfectly balanced and all i had to do was optimizing some Values and adding Ports like the Audio System from the XZ3 and native Android Features like known from My past Work (Meh). The Mix 2 offers at least soon a Pie Vendor which allows us to use coming Android Versions with more ease. That will help a lot to unleash more of the potential of the SD835 and wow, UFS2.1, Dual Wifi, awesome NFC, Bluetooth 5!? The Pixel 2 XL used BT4 which limited some Features i just wanted to include before (SD845/855 Flagship Features). Actually is Wifi and BT broken on My Mix 2 but i will figure out how everything works and i'm sure the will be some nice findings for other Xiaomi Devices with actual Specs too. Dirac Sound or the Audio Routing overall on the Mix 2 is also interesting and actually pretty loud and clear (Not bad against the Pixel 2 XL with real Stereo Speakers). It makes just a lot of fun to see whats possible with some Edits

I was looking out for at least a Mix 2S with dual Cam to tune up the AR/VR Stuff too with Xperia XZ3 Configs (They are really good made and support many Formats/Resolutions), but now am i seeing that HAL3 was disabled by default and that most of the Camera Features aren't set. I have almost 30 Config Lines for Cameras in the pipeline to unleash stuff like Zero Shutter Lag on HDR, more native Camera Features and Configs like for Noise Reductions, Progressing and so on. Think once the Software is well configured will the Camera be pretty good (The Sensor isn't that bad on the Back). I was also playing around with Camera Libs and Permissions which can together with the right Camera Mod allow Pixel Configs and HDR+. Can't wait to see the first Progress. I'm still fighting with Bootloops and Issues but once i cleaned that out will i try some Things. Think this Weekend will be a good One for everyone with a Unlocked Mix 2
Which could be interesting would be to include Device Specific Options in the Patch. That would allow me to include also Media Profiles for the Camera like with higher Bitrates, enhanced Audio Recording in Videos and so on. I'm pretty sure that at least 4K Video will look a lot sharper after editing some stuff on the Media Profiles (Looks very blurred actually on Havoc). My Brain is overcooking with Ideas, i need to go back to work!
Thanks btw for this kind Words Guys, i think the Xiaomi Community is a nice place to share stuff
Ok, i figured out what caused missing audio, bootloops and missing BT, Wifi and Cellular. I think it will not be possible to add the sony enhancements but i will try to load most of the libs by default. The Audio Output needs some more optimization but is ok for now. Priv App Permissions are set to log since enforcing breaks the System (Bootloop) on Havoc, and Video Playback is buggy (Streaming and some Codecs) besides a to big DPI which can be fixed over the System Settings Display/Display Size. I will upload a frist Version for testing and share the Link here
Edit: It will be available here: https://sites.google.com/view/miustone/RELEASES
(FFUHD-XIAOMI.zip)
So i was playing around with MIUI too and got some pretty nice results like a super fluid UI, better Audio Quality and i got VoLTE, VoWifi (HD Calls) and Video Calling working (Requires Google Duo and will be not handled over the Mobile Data Plans if supported from the Carrier). But i got also many bootloops and issues with My Changes. Possible that this is caused by the Oreo 8.0.0 Base. Some Features required at least Android 8.1 to work so am i not sure if it's worth the struggle actually. I can just hope that we get Android 9 soon and it will be pretty interesting then to make a Patch for MIUI. I will for now focus on AOSP GSI ROMs to have a unified Xiaomi Base OS to work with.
Would be pretty interesting btw. to use a Generic MIUI Image (There are some around based on latest MIUI and Pie). Sadly wasn't i able to boot one up so far...

AOSP seems to be rock stable on the Mi Mix 2. GSIs are also working well with the right Kernel/Vendor.
I'm back on Miui actually since it's even with Android 8 Base really cool at all. And i found some nice hidden Miui Stuff which i will use in the future. I just started making a Miui Patch now tested on the EU ROM and it's a lot of fun...
I'm still thinking about to make a Google like OS out of it with almost no Miui Apps at all. I will see...
Yes, very much.
In my case, never had any FC aps or bootloops, even updating with dirty flash there is no problem.
Really recommend havoc, above all I have tested.
Anyone interested on testing My Patch Module for Miui with Magisk 18/19? I'm doing some finetuning right now but i think i can upload it soon. Is there a Central Place for Miui Devices btw., like the Sony Cross Device Forum here on XDA? I would prefer to share a Thread on such a Place instead of posting it to the Magisk Modules Forum since it's more like a ROM than a Module...

Yeah i'm thinking the same after playing with MIUI a bit. And Android 8.0 is so hardly outdated
I was working on GSI Support with My Patch before and think that could be the best way to unify all Xiaomi Users on a good working and actual Base (Instead of just making a Patch for EU MIUI Users). Would You be interested on supporting Me with providing My Patch for the Mi 8 the Mi Mix 2 and maybe others too?

I switched to make a AROMA Installer for Modules including mine but I think the Volume Key Tool will also do the Job. I have open sourced my System Patch on GitHub as Magisk Module to use the benefits of Systemless install and made again something unique out of it. I'm rethinking about the way I will do the Patch and my plans are actually:
-Finding a catchy Name for a Xiaomi AOSP Patch (XOSP would be nice but there was a project with that name)
-Readd everything for AOSP (System Content and Props) and add back Volume Key Selector instead of AROMA
-Pushing it to GitHub and make Release Zips which I will push to my Google 1 upgraded Drive Account
There are many steps between all that but I can do that in One Day. Think I can share everything this Sunday Evening (18-19Uhr) with You, that we can open up 2 Threads for our Devices. I'm actually setting up my PC with a fresh Windows install again and will be up till the morning to install everything including GitHub Desktop, Editors and all that. Updates and Driver's first! lol
https://github.com/Miustone/XASP
Edit: So far so good. Almost 3am and i got the module tp 60% working. Just have to figuring out why the Mobile Connections like wifi and cellular are broken again. Also fixed some Issues from the last Patch like missing Apps in the Store (Build Characteristics are set back to rom defaults instead of "tablet" (Removed the entry from the prop).
I actually use Havoc OS Official as Base for testing so other AOSP/GSI or at least Havoc ROMs on other Devices will work too...

Best rom to use?

I just picked up the first Mi Mix that seems to have apps such as the play store pre-installed. That said, I'm trying to decide whether I should just stick with MIUI 11 or install custom firmware, and if so, which ones are most stable/best for the mix? Browsing some of the rom threads, it's not all that clear to me what the differences are, if they're even worth using, etc.
Pixel Experience: some of the most recent posts mention battery drain and overheating issues.
LineageOS 17.1: a post mentions issues with multiple apps.
HavocOS: possible wifi problem?
I'm really just trying to figure out which are reliable for daily use.
no
I would check CrDroid.
I am running Resurrection Remix 8.1 and it's everything all right. But I think Android 9 is not perfect in any ROM for Mi Mix...

Custom roms camera quality

Hi,
I own ZUK Z2 Pro that I have unlocked, flashed with AOSP Extended v4.6 official and rooted many moons ago. I simply can't fault this device or this rom, but one thing - the camera quality is very poor. I know it was poor on official ZUI rom as well, so I had no regrets to move to AOSP Extended, which I am very happy with. And I would continue to use this outdated Nougat rom, but I am about to perform a factory reset, so I thought I could try something newer. However, I read the topics and some new custom roms are somewhat buggy. I can adjust / sacrifice some UI glitches providing the camera gets a quality boost with GCAM mod, which as far as I know is not supported on my old rom.
So the question I wanted to ask is. Are the new custom roms having a better google camera mod to what a stock ZUI app or old custom roms had? Is the gcam worth it? Is there a rom that you could recommend that fits with gcam mod well?

Yes, it's really worth it. I recommend updating to android 10 (PixysOS - https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z2-pro/development/pixysos-3-0-4-official-zuk-z2-pro-t4080859).
I installed AEX, although it has good resources, I found serious problems and the above ROM seems to be the best.
You must follow the procedures, updating with original ROM - ZUI 4, and then updating with android 10, in order to use API2Camera.
I'm using this version of GCAM:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog1150/
You have to configure it, front camera not to keep the photos with green tones, you can download an xml with the settings.
front camera Nexus6, and rear google pixel xl.
The difference of other cameras for GCAM (with correct configuration), is very great. You will have much better photos and videos.

Thank you so much for your input. From what I have read about all Android 10 custom roms for ZUK Z2 pro, they all suffer from some bugs and flaws. Whether that is going to improve - only the time will tell, but looking at how old this device already is, we may not see a great improvement.
As you have probably already gathered, I prefer older, more stable roms. Is the GCAM mod so good on Android 9 as well? And is the API2Camera available on Android 9? Thanks

Yes, all ROMs have little problems.
I was running Android 10, and I had a problem with magisk, and I needed to re-install the ROM urgently, as the android 9 files were stored inside the zuk, I ended up going back to the android pie.
I have a lot of activities, as soon as I have some time I will return to android 10, because I thought it was better.
The two ROMs that look best to me are Arrow and PixyOS.
AEX has great features, but it has several problems. I didn't test evolution-X.
GCAM, for me, works best on android 10. But yes, it also works on android 9.
My experience with android 10 (Arrow and PixyOS) were good and I recommend, I think this is better than the ROM with android 9.
In Zuk Z2 pro, between versions 8.1, 9 and 10, in my experience, the best ones are, 8.1 and 10.
As version 10 I can use the latest versions of GCAM, this will be my ROM.
Best version I found:

Best Pure Android ROM for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9

Hello, my name is Luis, I hope everyone is quite well like me, I wanted to ask what is currently the best Pure Android ROM for the device "Xiaomi Redmi Note 9" that has the following features:
- Optimized, light and fluid.
- Good battery life
- NO overheating (except for games)
- Good performance in demanding games
There are many things I do not know yet, can you tell me important things to consider.
Thanks to for the attention, I look forward to a prompt reply.
Well, Project Elixir is probably the best one, even though it got discontinued in January and it's not stable, I use it as my daily driver as I don't want to use the MIUI rabbit hole. It's based on AOSP. In other words, it's just a modded Pixel Experience ROM. You won't definitely game on that phone lol. That MediaTek chipset has already issues on the stock MIUI. The install guide is easy if you will follow the instructions on the Telegram. Group name: ppui_merlin. The Google Pay/Wallet works straight without needing to install the safetynet-patch. The ROM comes with Google Play Services, since it's just Pixel Experience after all.
Okay, thanks for taking the time to write, I hope it will be very useful... I will follow the step by step... I've been trying for more than 3 months to install a custom recovery to the terminal but, I never end up succeeding. The device currently has the bootloader unlocked but it still doesn't work. I already did several times the process with XiaomiTools v2 and it does not work, I was going to do it through commands with CMD but, I had to install some drivers which were not allowed to install because apparently you have to remove other drivers that prevent the installation of the drivers I need, I use a generic cable and another original of the same brand Xiaomi but, this charger is from a Redmi Note 10... it should still work but unfortunately it never works with both cables.
I would like to know how I can completely remove the drivers that my device does not need and at the same time remove the XiaomiTools V2 program permanently both.... To start again with the method of installing the custom recovery by ADB commands with the CMD.
Do you have a more convenient place where I can communicate with you? It would be very useful. Again, thank you very much

The maintainer of the PPUI was the same one for Project Elixir. PPUI got abandoned 1 month before the PE. I can't say whether there's a huge difference between them as the Founder of PE is also a Co-founder of the PPUI. The sites also share a similar design, meaning they're really close to each other. Forgot to mention that PE got abandoned around 2/3 months ago. December was the last month when there was a release of 3.4.

I would probably say that LineageOS is the baren bones one. You would need to install GApps. But it's still in development and there are only nightly (every week) releases for now. So far, I'm surprised that someone is still interested in this junk MediaTek chipset and still trying to make it at least somehow good for use.
hahaha, it's because I still don't have the money to buy another mobile but well, the case, do you know about any port for the redmi note 9? that is a13 or a14

LineageOS is like pure android, extremely light and gets updated often, although I can only find the download link for a NIGHTLY build, meaning it gets updated really often meaning that it can have bugs, I cant find a stable build for some reason anywhere, probably not out yet for LOS 20, and you cant download older versions on the los site sadly
