Hi! I'm trying to find a setting to modify the resolution in which the pictures are taken, but can only see an option from aspect ratio (which doesnt clarify how many megapixels you get with each type).
I looked online and didnt find anything on the subject, which I find quite strange
It is the aspect ratio toggles. I askedthe same question a week ago you can find the thread here.
4:3 is still the highest quality. Then 16:9 I believe.

I was actually looking for a response to this? In video mode 16:9 is the highest setting, in still mode is 4:3? You can no long see the resolution comparing between the rations

Yeah you can't.

What I'm the world does "yeah you can't" mean?
There are 3 different cameras, one has a different resolution than the others. A single resolution value would not do. Seems as though Samsung didn't implement a multivalue setup. It is always full resolution for the given aspect ratio.

You cannot see the resolution and pixel quality.

Take a short video (of a few seconds) with each setting and look at the resolution of each video. It would only take a minute to do this.

What is Google thinking releasing a camera app with only 4:3 instead of widescreen?
No touch to focus... why!? This is like a standard an most phones now. The camera supports it, why not use it?
Because photos look wrong in 16:9?
I hated it when I had the Desire ROM on the phone, and all they end up doing is cropping of the a bit from the top/bottom which you could do yourself in any good photo editing software.
What about touch to focus?
And just because you like 4:3 doesn't mean everyone does or should.
Just because you don't like 4:3 doesn't mean everyone doesn't or shouldn't.

They could have added both, and let you choose.

It would've just been a cropped 4:3 image anyways, I don't really see the point. It has to be either a cropped 4:3 image or a cropped 16:9 image, you make the choice...
Here you have a 4:3 image from the sensor, you can crop it any way you like.
Both as options would have been tits.

so my question is if i set the Full Sensor' option in lapst it app my record will be in 4k or just 1080p?

Umm, a Time Lapse is generally made with full resolution photographs.
This has nothing to do with the device's video capabilities necessarily.
The reason why devices can't record full resolution video is because it needs to shoot many frames (photographs) per second. However if you take a time lapse, you only need to take, say, one photograph per couple of seconds. Which is perfectly possible with our device.
So yes, if you're creating a time lapse you could actually make a 20.7 megapixel video, much more detailed than 4K video even (recall that 4K is usually 3840x2160 - making it 8 megapixels in resolution per frame)!

If you make a video using the full sensor, 20.7 megapixels, you would get a video of 5248x3936 with a 4:3 aspect ratio. 3936p perhaps, which is a little higher than your usual 1080p or 2160p (a.k.a. 4K).
However, I doubt the app on your phone could process that (not sure). Using software on your PC you should be able to (check Google for more info). Also, I doubt anything will be able to even playback this kind of video.
It could however be useful for downscaling (converting your insanely high res video to 'only' Full HD), to make sure your 1080p video looks perfectly crisp and clear.

Can anyone verify they've achieved 2k?
Not work on my Mi MIx with the latest EU Rom.
Isnt 4K a hardware limitation on the mi mix?!
Nope caps at 1080p
well it did work for me but 2k? since its and HD device so, it does look more cooled do just like in the screen shots.
What? I didn't get it.
How do you know you've gotten 2k resolution?
sorry to disappoint you guys but this could be a futuristic feature of the application should Xiaomi release a 2 version !!
looks good do

if you compare the screen shot it does look like the black looks more black which it does. and 2k? right.
My dear if Xiaomi manufactured this device with a 2k screen they would have announced that as a marketing strength. To be sure just open youtube and find a 2k clip and try to switch the 2k option and see what happens and let us know the results.

oh, you still here ROID? can't let the Mix go?
what is interesting is if it changes the rendering resolution, because there's this thing called super sampling. what it does is it creates frames in highers resolution and then outputs them to the screen creating a slightly sharper, higher quality image. For example, even if you have a FHD computer screen, it's better to watch 2k or even 4k videos, for better quality.

I never clicked the 2k option.
The two screen shots are both in native resolution.
I posted two screen shots as a way of showing how to find what I'm talking about.
I'm not sure why the second is darker.
Good question?
Just try a 2k clip and if you can see 2k as an option to play the vedio then it works

Is there a way to enable 1440p (or 4K) option on YouTube?
Any particular reason? Your screen is "only" 1080p, so I have no idea what you want to accomplish with this...

How can it be "solved"? You can't display the resolution so what's the point?!

I'd assume it would work similar to PC's. I only have a 1080p monitor but I can still watch 4k videos on youtube and they actually tend to look quite nice. No idea if it would be worth on a 5'5 display though.
Do you want to zoom?
1440p, 4k videos are looking better on 1080p screen, because there is less video compression artifacting. And you can watch 4k 360 videos too! If you know xposed, then use the YouTube+ module.
It's kinda pointless since our screen is 1080p. It won't display more pixels than it's capable of

Yeah, because the hardware in your phone is immune from creating those video artifacts...
Until I see a comprehensive, professional comparison article about the results of the YouTube/Google downsamlping algorithm vs the hardware solution in the 821 CPU I'll take that claim with a 4K sized grain of salt. But whatever, it your bandwidth and power to waste.

Yes, it has.
this is very strange, just bought mi mix 256GB version and checked screen resolution on many apps, cpuz, antutu and others, all report same resolution 1080x1920, so how to understand that? it must be higher.
CPU-Z says 1080x2040 for me. Antutu says 1920x1080 during the Garden demo but I suspect that's what it would say for any non-standard (i.e not 16:9) HD display. I'm sure it would report 2560x1440 for the S8/G6, even though they're actually 2880x1440.
Take a screenshot and check the properties of the file. It should say the screen resolution.

Try changing it through resolution apps. For example this one : Screen Shift: Customize your display. More details at http://aravindsagar.github.io/ScreenShift/
