Flip cover sound - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

I posted this question on the Moto g7 section as well. It applies to both.
I bought myself a flip cover with a magnetic closure. Every time I flip the cover back a hear a sound. How on earth can I stop this annoying behavior? Any ideas here? I can't find anything in the settings...

Is it the lock screen sound? You can turn that off in settings.

Sorry then. I didn't know this phone responded to magnetic covers.
That was the option to turn it off on my Nexus 9. Never used a cover like that on a phone.

Turned out that it was a train card (the Dutch ov-chipcard) that caused the sound. It was in the socket of the flip cover. Removing this ov-chipcard solved it. That card has an NFC chip it....

[A] Why does the Nexus 7 have a sensor that responds to a magnetic field?

The video shows someone putting a magnet over the bottom left corner and the screen shuts off. I'll explain why. There's pogo pins on that side. Pogo dock cables use magnets to hold themselves to the device for easy connection and removal. The screen turns off for some unannounced feature of the dock. We don't know why the screen turns off, but we do know that's why the sensor is there, for a POGO PIN DOCK.
Please see this page for part info on how pogo pin docks work from a seller.
What about the ability to close the cover of a nice case over the tab and it automatically turn the screen off? Has been done before.

I'm sure you're special. I am explaining why the sensor is there. It's not because of a case. You can do whatever you'd like with your case.
It's senses that there's a magnet on it for a smart case, when you close the cover the magnet comes down and sits over the detector turning the device into sleep mode. When the magnet is removed the device unlocks or activates the unlock feature (Like face unlock, or wakes the screen up for pin, pattern, or password input).
This explains the odd location of the magnetic sensor and the lack of talk about this feature.

So, you pose your thread title as a question, then you answer your own question in your OP, and belittle other people who reply? Great thread, Ace. You post more often.

Man, people are quick to judge on xda these days. Thanks OP for clearing this up. I should have known this off the bat. Some of the radios I used to service in the military had pogo connectors secured by magnets.
For those attempting to fashion a case with a magnet, be careful. Magnets and circuits don't always mix...

Really? There's several cases available on Amazon specifically for the Nexus 7 and sleep/awake function. Putting a magnet directly touching the pogo pins does nothing. Putting a magnet on the front screen bezel centered directly above the center of the pogo pins does nothing. Putting a magnet on the bezel slightly to the left of the center and ~3/4" farther left of the 4 pogo pins turns off the screen. To the right does nothing. I don't see much function of turning off the screen when you dock the phone. I do see a function of turning off the screen when you close a flap to cover the screen. Just my hands on opinion.
Also, asus's own product page has "smart cover" when talking about the case they make for the Nexus 7. What else would 'smart' be describing?

Official Google Case Causes Screen Input

A friend of mine just received his official N7 case from Google and promptly realized that it's made of conductive material that creates screen input if you close it with the screen turned on. Has anyone else experienced this?

I literally got my case from UPS 10 minutes after I posted this, and I can recreate the problem too. Here's another thread with some others experiencing the same thing:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...n7-case-play-store-causing-screen-freeze.html
Did you know that if I unlock my phone and put it in my pocket.... My pocket starts pushing buttons.. Its like a little gnome lives in my pocket and is trying to text Tokyo.
Tapping the power button seems to solve the problem.
I would suggest doing the same if you plan on using this case.
and here I thought this case couldn't get any worse

Thanks for your valuable input.
Your phone acts the way you explain because your pocket isn't thick enough to keep your leg from activating the screen. The cover on this case is quite thick, and it causes screen input regardless of whether your hand/finger/whatever is on the other side. You can take it completely out of the case, then touch the screen with the cover and replicate the problem. The case itself appears to be conductive - not something you really want on a touchscreen device.
I don't have the problem because I added a magnet to trigger the sleep and wake functions as I close the cover.

Hi sway40,
I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you so much for your unsolicited opinion of my post (I even clicked the little "Thanks" button!). I hope it didn't take too much of your time, considering I only asked if anyone else was seeing the problem, and not for your personal thoughts on whether or not it was a good post or subject. I also hope that you're not too upset; the last thing I want to do is make people on the Internet angry by asking what I think are legitimate questions. Going forward, before posting any accessory-related questions in the accessories forum, I'll be certain to post a separate question first, asking if it's okay for me to post my real question. Should I PM you first too?
Thanks again!
Thanks for the info...will wait for a third party cover that includes a magnet!

Lockscreen bug with smartcover and battery drain

Hello everyone,
I bought on ebay this smartcover since I saw that lots of people were talking great about it (like being the best cover for Nexus 7). After some days of use, I found out that my lockscreen bugs quite a lot and I'm not always able to unlock my device if it's in the smartcover, and yesterday I found out a strange use of the system, like it drained my whole battery without using it.
Anyone is experiencing same issue? Shall I go for another cover?
Thanks everyone,
Tiwiz

I actually can't believe you just posted this, I've had this case for a couple of months and literally last night started putting the battery issue down to the fact that the case/cover may be waking the tablet when it shouldnt.
Also I've noticed that maybe like 50% of the time, when you open the cover it doesn't unlock, other half of the time it does?
Same issues?!

Seems were in the same boat here, as I went through 3 cases until I found this.
Loved it but these issues are doing my head in.
From what I can see, if you close the case, then turn it to its front, the front of the case is still raised.
This could cause the sensor to think its not closed sometimes?
I dno, just pondering.
But do it and tell me if your case does this, like if you look at it from the front and top, theres a gap between the case and screen.
I hope you understand what I'm saying there

Thats what I believe it is, due to the front part of the cover not actually touching the screen EVER, I'm just thinking that every so often, the Nexus just thinks its not there, wakes up and then the cover is activated again and then goes back to sleep, then back into deepsleep.
Thats my theory, but I'm still keeping the case, its great

I have another case shown with another problem, used to get random screen offs, then it become more worse over time, to the point whilst I was actively using the tablet the screen would go off constantly, i now use it it out of the case until now to take a photo.....guess what? I couldn't type in my pin number.
Makes me think that with my problems and the OP problems, may I know why the official cases from Asus don't have a magnet inside.
Just a thought.

I have more or less the same cover (mine has a leather piece that covers the bezel... which doesn't bother me). It does work well and it looks great. And I've had no issues with the smart lock (but my N7 is set to go into airplane mode whenever the cover closes, so that may have something to do with it). I would recommend it.

To be clear, I was talking about the one you posted, not the one from the original poster.
As I said, mine is a bit different than that one... http://www.hipstreet.com/hipstreet-asus-google-nexus-7-rotating-case/
The rotating is the best part of the cover. I know people who have smart covers that fold back and the magnets turn off the screen from behind. I can just rotate mine and avoid that problem. Also, as shown in the promo pictures, the rotating is good for standing the pad up in both portrait and landscape. When it's closed it looks like a moleskine notebook, so I can carry it to work and meetings and look professional.
That said, it did fall of the top of my counter onto a tile floor and landed on its side with no damage. No guarantees, but I was happy.
(And I got it cheaper than the MSRP from Staples Canada... $29 as I recall.)
I have the same case as the OP and I have issues with it locking itself when its open but that may be the magnet triggering the lock from the back side of the device. I've also noticed some battery drain with the cover closed, almost as if its being locked/unlocked throughout the day.

Pen sensitivity not equal on the screen

I've noticed lastely that my pen sensitivity is different in the middle of the screen compared to the corners. I have to press down the pen harder to actually write something, while on the corners I can write normally.,
This was not always the case, the problem appeared just recently. The pen has bad sensitivity in the middle regardless if I try to write or just scroll on a webpage with it.
Restarting the phone didn't help.
I have a custom rom which I have not upgraded for months now (I'm waiting on Oreo roms).
The digitizer seems to work fine when I use my fingers.
I have uploaded a screenshot testing the pen. The corners are where I gently just swiped with the pen. As you can see there's nothing in the middle.
Could this be software (rom) issue, digitizer losing response or the pen itself? Any ideas?

I've read that magnets won't damage the phone, unless it's a really strong magnet like a MRI scanner. I won't be coming near any of those anytime soon.
The only thing that would be temporarily affected is the compass, which I don't use, and Spen in this case, which I use rarely.
