Pie update issue. Mobile hotspot keeps kicking iPad off
I used to be able to download movies from third party app popcorn.
Now everytime I try. It works for about 30 seconds then kicks me off. This is a deal breaker for me as I cant use my home wifi for this due to copy protection rights.

Nobody?

I would look to a "power saving" feature, possibly in the router also. My last NETGEAR Router update I had to hard reset and reconfigure to keep it from kicking me off in favor of the VPN router, and still had to forget all networks and relogin....

How does copy right protection work via your home router ? never heard of that before. Go into your Note 9 hotspot settings and make sure timeout is disabled it will be in the advance settings tab!

Home router not involved in this scenario. I'm using mobile data to turn my phone into a hot spot. As for copyrights. If I stream using ATT home internet to my iPad. (What this setup is NOT doing) I get copy right notices from ATT within 5 minutes. Big Brother is watching you. Believe it.

i dont like this either because every other phone ive had that hides 3g 4g the wifi goes in the place of it but thats the only thing so far ive found that i dont like
2 from me,
1. Battery life is tough. I must have this phone charging whenever I am at my desk or It will be dead by 8pm. I would consider myself to be a power user. I'm coming from an Atrix 2 and would make it through the day with only charging in the car dock.
2. No true gps toggle. I use the toggle switchs all the time, all others work but GPS.
Otherwise I love the phone it's very quick and I'm loving ICS

The only problem I've had was with the screen sensitivity. It's no longer a problem. I fixed it with a Moshi Screen protector.
It's thick enough to balance out the touch screen and it covers up all the Logos on the phone.
Juice Defender can also cause wacky wifi performance issues. You can adjust the custom settings in Juice Defender to leave wifi alone.
Smart Actions hasn't caused any problems with waking up any of the radios or wifi.
Wifi works best if you disable anything that has to do with automatically connecting.
When you connect to your wireless point, just click "remember" when it asks you to save settings. That way it should connect/reconnect faster when you are within range because it's not scanning. It'll just connect.
Anyways, from a security stand point you do not want it to automatically connect to any open network. Wireless SSID can be spoofed with a name change, and connecting to open networks is asking for someone to record your activity, or even launch SSL strip to fish out information on the secure sites you visit. Packet sniffing at a Starbucks free WiFi is easier than using 'One-Click-Root.'
So just avoid open networks and disable anything to do with auto connecting. It'll speed up waking up WiFi and it'll make you much more secure.
If you still have wifi issues just toggle airplane mode on and off.

There's 8GB of space; how did 2 apps fill that? Go into setting>Storage and see what's really eating up your internal storage. I found that the camera by default saves pics/vids to the SDCard and I would bet that's what's killing your space. If so you can change the setting in the camera app and use the "Manage Internal Storage" to move over pics/vids that are currently on internal storage.
I've not had any wifi issues.
Having had this only 2 days, the only problem I've noticed is that there is noise when listening to music. Specifically using the standard Apple earphones and listening to Pandora. I also tried some other cheapo earphones and the same thing. I tried both earphones on my old 3g ipod and it was crystal clear. But this is really a nit-picky thing and I can only hear it on the lowest volume setting.
I get this notification asking for what keyboard input I want to use sometimes when I have the keyboard opened. I click it and it asks me what keyboard input I want to use. I have never installed any other keyboards and this has been happening ever since I got my phone a few days aho

[Q] WiFi issue.

Alright, here's the problem. I can connect to my WiFi at work. I get full bars. But it won't pull any data. Nothing loads in any app or browser. It's only here that it happens and I'm the only one with any problems. I've read everything I can find and tried many things (WiFi "fixer" apps (both root and non-root), switching IPs, forgetting the network and setting it up from scratch) to no avail. I've spoken with our network administrator to ask him if he'd blocked any IPs or anything and he assured me that he had not (he doesn't even have the administrative passwords and can't reset the router as it is stuck to the ceiling 50 feet in the air).
So wtf? Anybody have any suggestions outside of a factory reset? I'm all ears. Thanks in advance (I'll also spank your Thanks Button )
Edit: Also, I've been on this network for years. This happened out of nowhere last week and I'm getting frustrated.

AT&T Smart Wi-Fi connection manager is a free app that finds and auto-connects to available hotspots, maximizes battery life by only turning Wi-Fi on & off when needed, logs missed hotspot opportunities for your review and action for subsequent use, and displays your real-time cellular and Wi-Fi data usage.

I can't find the thread where this tip came from at the moment but this is what I remembered. It shouldn't be hard to search thru the forums. It may or may not fix your issue but give it a try anymore. It won't break anything. GL
1. at your dial pad enter *#0011#, this will take you to the SERVICE MODE
2. press the "menu" - the soft key on the left side of home button
3. select "WiFi"
3. toggle the ON/OFF switch to turn off the wifi power save mode.
4. press home button to exit
I've seen android devices fail to resolve domain names on corporate networks. Check if you can ping outside IP addresses and such - if so, there's probably a way to force it to use google public DNS, though of course this won't resolve intranet names...
(Also, before you exert too much effort on this, make sure your corporate wifi is worth connecting to. Some wifi networks in offices are crap...).

Maybe I'm just spoiled by living in a place with excellent 4G LTE coverage, but I don't see any appeal in connecting to random hotspots - I've never connected to a hotspot that performed better than the 4G, and I don't come close to the data limits of my plan (This month I'll hit 1GB for the first time, I think, because our connection at home was out yesterday, and I had to tether for me and roommate who work from home). Plus good deal of the hotspots I tried (before I realized this was silly) didn't even have internet behind them. The majority of the attwifi ones around here (in red cambridge, ma) don't work - on default settings, I'd just be walking along, and bam - no connectivity, what happened? Oh, it autoconnected to an attwifi hotspot that didn't have any internet connectivity.
I turned the WiFi power saving mode off. I'll report back once I get back to work and check the results.

It means you have low bandwidth. Something on your network is hogging your internet resources. Stopping that porn download usually helps! lol just teasing.
I had this problem when my pc started uploading music to google play. I'm guessing my pc was hogging the network. I bumped my phone up the list of Qos services in my router so it cleared it up. I couldn't find a setting in my phone that would let me turn off the alert.

Me and my phone set constantly like 2 feet away from the router. AND I have the most expensive router out there (ASUS RT-AC68R) No porn on this computer (wife won't let me). . lol . Could it be the xBox 360 in the next room hogging it? It just randomly does it.

I play call of duty ghosts on my 360 online all the time and never had it pop up. I only noticed it when I was uploading 7000 songs to google play. And it only uploads 2 songs at a time!! It's not the routers fault we're getting the warning. It's our download/upload speed overall from our internet provider. The only way it could be a routers fault is if you have your device set low on Qos priority.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Isn't there a wifi issue with the Note 3? I've been getting that message daily for the last week even though no Internet usage is occurring and my speed is very high.
It's very annoying. For example, it can't stay connected to the router at work at all. It never could actually, ever since I purchased this device. It disconnects immediately after telling me it's unstable which it says the second it connects to the router, even though the connection and signal are excellent. It never happened with the Note 2 at either location, home or work.
I wouldn't be so quick to blame your connection, bandwidth usage or router settings. Think back, did this ever occur with your previous device? I bet the answer is no.
check your phones wifi setting. setting>wifi>menu>advanced i unchecked auto network switch and it doesn't show the notice
I have this problem atleast once a day even though this is the only device on my network and it lasts about ten minutes each time. I cracked out the note 2014 and checked speed while my phone refused to connect because network is slow and wouldn't ya know 12Mbps down 3 up with no probs connecting. Ran into this on the 2014 stock with adblock+ running. Disabled it and no probs since. Wonder if the adblock in xnote is causing this. Anyone else rommed with some type of adblock that is or is not having this problem? Need info to find out. Thanks.
Hmm I am rooted with an ad block in place. I'll disable it when I go to work and see what happens.
I remember getting that annoying message early on, around thanksgiving, so it stopped quite a while ago. I was thinking, WTH, I never got this from my other phones.

I don't have adblock installed on my GN3
I've had the sane issue, but it is now fixed. I originally had GPS issues with my Note 3 and finally decided to replace it at an AT&T service center. The replacement I got had a functioning GPS, but was having the same WiFi issues as the OP. I got on the phone with AT&T and Samsung and after 2 more replacement phones, I was about to give up.
In desperation, I called my ISP (Uverse) and they suggested I change my WiFi channel to a fixed channel rather than auto and it worked. It is clearly an issue with the WiFi chip in the newer Note 3's but the workaround worked for me. I set it back to auto channel and it failed again almost immediately. Apparently every time the channel on my router changed, the connection was deemed unstable.

At&t US mobile hotspot glitch

I just got a new SAMSUNG-SM-G935A
I've been looking for ways to get the mobile hotspot active due to me having unlimited data on AT&T ( US ). To no prevail just like everyone I realize that at&t has block almost every possible way to use the mobile hotspot with unlimited data and it looks like a decent reliable root is going to keep changing as exploits are closed.
But....
I stumbled on this glich so I had to share.
1. Turn your wifi on your S7 edge
2. Connect to a WiFi ( doesn't matter if it has Internet access or not )
3. Once connected Turn on your mobile hotspot
4. Now connect the device your wanting to use. ( I used my Xbox ) ( I had to go into my network setting on my Xbox and configure a new connection)
5. Let the device run what ever tests it needs to run. ( I got an error msg stating that I was connected to the internet but connectivity may be interrupted and that Xbox live services maybe slow on multiplayer games)
Just hit ok
6. Now once you've connected, go to " mobile hotspot and tethering " click on "Mobile Hotspot" then in the top right hand corner click on "more". In the pull down menu click WiFi sharing click " WiFi Sharing Off "
7. Don't clear any notifications, And don't click the set up device.
Just hit the home button and enjoy your device connected thru your At&t SAMSUNG-SM-G935A on unlimited data.
Hope this helps.
Just remember att has technologies to sense this. After a month or so, you will receive an email notifying you of violating your terms of agreement, effectively booting you off unlimited if you continue on. This happens because you violate that agreement and not you or them are bound.

Have you used PDAnet/Foxfi? They're a little expensive but worked on my S6, and they supposedly try to hide the fact that you're tethering.. at&t will always know based on deep packet inspection & TTL hops, but I have a feeling they stopped the 'tetherer witch hunt' now that so many people are on mobile share

Because the tech they use to tell you are tethering is packet sniffing. If you mask the data, you can tether until your heart is content or you run out of data. I said nothing about amount of data being used, only to mask that your computer is using it and not your phone. The concern was being booted off for tethering on an unlimited data plan. Using a VPN on each client machine will prevent them from knowing you are tethering. They will not boot you off the network for using lots of data.

Hi:
I have an AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge. Once I turn on Wifi and connect to any network, as per your instructions, I go to mobile hotspot to turn it on but I get a message saying: "Mobile Hotspot will turn off Wifi, hit cancel or ok." Then after wifi turns off I get this other message: "Mobile hotspot is unavailable. To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dail 611."
And It won't let me continue.
Make sure you have mobile wifi sharing turned on before you connect to regular wifi, then go back in and turn wifi sharing off

Why does the we need to turn the sharing on, then off? Will it allow multiple devices to connect? Will it timeout and turn off?
Thanks,
I have the unlimited plan also, but I previously had a mobile share plan, which had a hotspot on the plan so I had to put it on a totally separate plan from my phones with unlimited data.
I remember years ago, AT&T required you to pay an additional fee in be able to use your phone as a hotspot. Since I wanted to use my phone as a hotspot, but didn't use it enough to justify an extra fee, I found an app called FoxFi, which allowed me to override AT&T's rules and turn my phone into a hotspot without having AT&T enable the hotspot feature and without having to pay an additional fee. I'm not sure if this app still works, but it might be worth looking into.

This trick worked for the past two months....alas, the June update changed it......doesn't work anymore.......

Now you can just load the 935U firmware on our phone and the wifi tethering isn't blocked for unlimited users.
I have the same issue "I get this other message: "Mobile hotspot is unavailable. To enable mobile hotspot on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dail 611."
My phone was an AT&T phone. I bought online unlocked. I have taken it to Nigera and lived there 6 months. Now my husband is here he has the same phone Samsung Note 4 and I connect to his hotspot since we have no internet. However my phone when I try to tun on mobile hotspot no can do.
I have taken to my carrier CRICKET they are at a loss. So is all lost I can't get mobile hotspot? I so can;t afford a new phone and need mobile botspot when hubby isn't home.

Bypass tether throttle on T-Mobile One

I was wondering if there's a workaround to the T-Mobile tether throttle on the One plan. I'm currently waiting on my replacement but was hoping to be able to get the workaround running asap. Thanks in advanced!
i am wondering the same thing about this and if there is a way to bypass the 480p cap on it ..
You can just turn binge on, off. No more 480p cap.

Not under the new plan. You have to pay to turn off Binge On.

That should totally be against the law. If i want to use up all my data watching netflix at full video quality it is my prerogative I say.

Well, that is just the beginning of not so nice things within the new plan. The new plan is really about throttling users after a small amount of data. Unlimited, just not unlimited high speed. Which is the reason I stayed with my old plan.

So true.
Forgot to mention about T-Mobile making Tethering users to be as monsters in their campaigns.

T-Mobile One is unlimited data, no buckets, so you're gonna use up infinity data at full quality with your proposal
My guess is you could root and probably use a 3rd party app to tether at LTE speeds. I've been wondering the same thing myself so I'm following to see what everybody else says lol
I have tried WiFi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso, but it doesn't help. Tried all different settings/methods combinations. Still tethers at the same speeds as Android native tethering.
I also tried changing User Agent string on my tablet and laptop to clone my Nexus 6's string but still not helping.
I did use to tether heavily, many months of around 300 GBs of data with this app "Wifi Tether Router". It's perfect for bypassing quotas, but so far not working for throttling.
Interesting fact: T-Mobile is letting speedtest.net traffic through without throttling, so if you run it, you'll notice it shows LTE speeds. However, if you run any other test like speedof.me (which is my favorite!) you'll be throttled.
I'll keep you guys posted when I figure it our. Shouldn't take long.

Have you tried a VPN?
You can download "WiFi Tether Router" in the Playstore, if you're rooted, it gives you unlimited tethering.

You have to edit build.prop file. You can do that easily by downloading the app called "BuildProp Editor" in the Playstore. Then look for the string called "net.tethering.noprovisioning" and set it to true. then it should be working no problem.
Any solution yet to this???
Found a kinda solution. I downloaded foxfi and the key (if you need the key I can send you the link) and turned it on and chose "run proxy" then connect your laptop, PlayStation, Xbox etc to the proxy and it will tether more than 500kbps I'm using my hotspot to watch Netflix on my PlayStation right now and there's hardly any buffer time so it's working for me.
Ugh wish I would've found this thread before the I upgraded to xfinity wifi...just got a $177 bill the other day so pissed

Method 1 – Dun = 0 [Android Only]
Requirements: Windows PC, USB cable
Download the ADB and Fastboot installer from XDA-developers. Select Yes when prompted by installation options (install ADB and fastboot, install system-wide, and install drivers).
Enable USB Debugging on your phone/tablet.
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable.
Open up the command prompt.
Click Start, in the search Type in cmd. Next, Click on the program cmd (or Command Prompt).
Type “adb shell” and press enter.
Don’t type the quotation marks “”, just the text inside them!
Type “settings put global tether_dun_required 0” and press enter.
Note: If you see “error: device not found” it is usually because A) you need to update your phone USB drivers on your PC or B) your USB cable isn’t capable of transmitting data because it is only designed to charge the phone or C) USB Debugging isn’t enabled.
