Hi,
As most of you know, for many people the HTC One m7 has a pink/purple camera issue, likely caused by overheating. Bearing this in mind, i opened up my HTC and replaced the camera with another original camera module and added some extra copper tape to conduct some heat to the middle panel and store extra heat as shown in the pink/purple fix tread. After putting my One back together the exact same issue was still present. Now to come to my actual question; is it possible to replace the m7 camera module with a non-original camera? i.e. the camera from a samsung s4? I have not much insight into the software and hardware possibilities. I am willing to try anything if you have a good idea, i can solder quite well and i can follow any software editing guides. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Whoa
Good and great experiment
It can happen as you can see htc m8 & m8 eye are almost same except camera software also twin just camera module libs are changed
Yes you can camera physically but i don't think you will get software support as m7 is old now for developer's
You can try thid one take m8 eye camera + software libs
Ask m8 developer's about porting that lib module to m7
Thats sounds like a great idea, i will look into that.
However i looked around and it seems that the HTC One mini 2 rear camera is a much better physical fit than the HTC One M8 for the M7
Also, the rear camera from the HTC One Max and Mini are the same. This camera seems to also physically fit into the M7. Even more likely so, because it is also a 4MP camera, if you look at the images you can see the M7 camera has some extra chips though, I'm not sure what those do.
I had inserted the images into this message to show you, but XDA-forums wont allow me to post links.
Please see for yourself.

I am looking into replacing my M8 camera with the M8 Eye camera. However, I am having a difficult time finding an M8 Eye camera sensor for sale. Do you have any idea where one would locate this part?

I would try Ebay, might also worth to ask in the correct forum This is the M7 forum. I'm sure guys in the M8 forum could help you find one.
Good luck
Haha good point. Thank you for the quick reply. Do you happen to know which lib files are necessary for camera operation? Furthermore, when "porting" lib files does anything special need to be done to them, or can I simply copy them from the phone that the camera was taken from and paste them in their respective directory?

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I just brought an HTC One M7 back to life after it having been dead for years, and it's got the purple camera issue.
I started looking for a replacement camera from another model, and went searching to see if anyone had tried this. Do you have anything to report? I'd love to hear it, if so.
Well according to this video it seems that the metal body (which contains the sapphire lens) and the 3400 mAh battery are compatible with the original one plus 3. However we need a software tweak to change the battery capacity as seen by the system.
Anyone with any source to buy either the battery or the lens can list it here ( I shall edit the main post to include the links)
I know that one plus has officially 'not condoned' the swapping of batteries. However as a person who praises their business decision but doesn't like their defocus on products I say my moto is also #NeverSettle. I want to see what my current phone can do with these upgrades.
The battery mod doesn't seem dangerous if someone literally hard swapped it without any software tweak but I'm pretty sure a developer can make a tweak for software ? if not please explain why.. It will help us DIY people understand better
The new body is up for grabs anyway if someone can list the sources. Yes it might not be available now but just like OPO and OPO2 parts we maybe able to upgrade in the future
I hope if some major dev has both fones he can come up with this. That would be huge!
Exactly. I don't want to bother devs a lot as they are already facing so much difficulty but I think anyone with a one plus 3T source should be able to port it maybe. That 400maH seems less but for light to medium users it's actually quite an upgrade.
I'll try to post on 3T forums to see if anyone can get it done.
I'm also currently looking for that back metal body. That sapphire lens is better than what Apple provides and DAMN that solved a lot of problems
The selfie camera is also another step but then again that will push the devs too much. Who knows maybe except for the processor we might just replicate the 3T.
watch this video
Um that's the one that I have posted in my original post. Jerry rig everything one right?
Well just goes to say that one plus has made the batteries similar enough to allow it to be used in OP3 Hardware wise.
waiting for any developer to provide any insight.
meanwhile eBay hunt for the rest of us.

Sorry I didn't watched the video mentioned in OP. ?
Yea it's software related so may b a dev can fix this
Seems like my next mod for the OP3
Also, unless the 3400mAh battery has a bigger voltage, I think it could be used without problem on the OP3, even without changing anything, and take advantage of the bigger capacity.
I have a Oneplus 3t A3003 international model and the camera has always been a little bit flaky... But only barely.. I could live with it... I bought it on ebay as a no warranty unit.
Anyway suddenly the camera has turned to s**t, I mean the phone is LITERALLY vibrating, the camera module is trying so hard to focus.
I'm having a really hard time finding out information about which module I need..
I've got the phone open.
However I see one place stating a camera module for the 3T only, and then I see ebay places selling a camera module for the Oneplus 3 / 3T like they use the same module.
I've spoken to some ebayers that actually advertise it like that and then they admit they don't know.
So can anybody that's already gone though this help me out.
Are the camera modules for the 3 and the 3T backwards /forwards compatible.
If not, do I need a Camera module specifically for the A3003 international version or can I use the same Camera module from the Oneplus 3T A3000 and the Oneplus 3T A3010 models.
And finally, can somebody point me in the right direction to buy the module from someone that actually knows what they are talking about.
I'd really appreciate some help.
Can't claim any specific experience with replacing the module. But everything I've seen, states that OP used the same camera module (3t vs. 3) for the back camera, and only the front "selfie" camera was changed.
Except that the description at the very top of this page states that *improved EIS for the rear-facing camera*.... So is that done in hardware or software.... If it's hardware then they must be different.
Just adds to my confusion.... *sigh*...
I'm back using a Sony XZ on Nougat... And I'll tell you right now... The Oneplus 3T running Resurrection Remix is much much faster graphically game wise than the Sony XZ even though they both have the same Adreno chip in them.
I'm really keen to get my 3T back up and running... Just lacking some info.
I don't care if it cost me $50 DHL or FEDEX to get it in 13 days instead of 13 weeks... I just don't know what to order or from whom.
EIS is accomplished in software and is just a new word for "Digital Image Stabilization". You should be fine with any model for the 3 or 3T, as they use the same camera on the rear.
Found this video from Witrigs on youtube:

Thanks very much for that video, that puts my mind at ease that I really can't order the wrong part.
Just have to find a reliable source.

I would simply order it from Ali, freshly made directly from the factory ?
Hi all,
I used an app which showed the list of supported camera sensors for mido. See attached picture.
It would be awesome if someone can find one a better Sony module out there which fits this phone.
https://prnt.sc/hn3bck
well i see the imx378 is on that list? same sensor as used in the google pixel
this list.. is it sensors which are electrically compatible, or physically compatible? no good if it doesnt fit in the phone, or requires a different lens setup. the 378 sensor for example is 7.8mm . the standard sony chip used is 5.8 mm.. i cant imagine that working without an entirely new lens setup, and probably case mods.

I used an app from the Google Play store called Device Info HW which shows you everything about your device. This app detected all the above camera drivers installed (front and back cameras) on the device.
I did a bit of research online, but have yet to find a module that may fit on the Note4X. So like you say, it may need an entirely new lens setup even if is "supported".
So I'm not sure why Xiaomi would include these drivers in the system folder though? It did have drivers for all 3 back cameras (Sony, Omnivision, and Samsung), including the qtech and ofilm versions.
Very interesting. I'd like to try a cheap one on that list just to see if it worked but I'd really love to see the pixels camera shoved in there... I found one on 'witrigs.com' (can't link as I'm new) for $20 if anyone fancies taking the plunge.
Any ideas on maybe cutting the back panel to fit the sensor? I'd like to know the dimensions of the samsung/omni/sony lenses used if anyone can find any info on them. Are there any differences between the pixel and pixel XL?

On Q-Tech's website I see they manufacture a bunch of different types of camera modules. The closest dimension I found was 8.5mm(L)*8.5mm(W)*5.3mm(H).

Good work finding this, thanks! That one does seem bigger, the lens itself wider too... Could deal with that when we come to it.
Been looking a little more into this, I wonder how that list of supported cameras are provided by 'device info HW'? They might be physically compatible but to my understanding probably not fully. Looking in system/vendor/lib I can only find the files (are these drivers?) for the 3 different cameras that mido has shipped with. I have zero experience or understanding if its possible to add drivers through kernel or anything though. Maybe a dev or someone with some experience can give some insight but looking at articles like these:
h ttps://www.xda-developers.com/cameras-custom-roms-developers-make-hardware-work-without-source-code/
I believe this will be unlikely to work.
@CedricSnail
As you mentioned, the camera libraries are located in 'system/vendor/lib'. For my device I see all the drivers listed by the app in that folder (see attached file). Which ROM are you using? I'm currently using the China Devloper ROM.

Oh wow, I'm on 'lineageos for microg'! Guess that changes things...
I'd be very interested in ordering some and giving this a try, the Z2's imx214 seems cheap so i might try that. I wonder would it be possible to include the libraries in a lineageos build?
Edit: nevermind, the imx 214, 298 and 2nd gen pixels 378 have a different number of pins on the connector from what I can tell from photos. They seem to have 17 pins lengthways as opposed to 15 on the imx258. However the 1st gen pixels imx 378 has 15 pins. I cant find any high resolution photos of the connections though so theres still a chance it may not fit.
Any updates on this ?
DO NOT waste your money on getting a different sensor! Just because the drivers are there, doesn't mean it's gonna work for the same chipset. Not to mention it would be a different size. Unless you can find another Xiaomi device's sensor that has the same processor and the same size and connections, you can't install anything else. Maybe Samsung Sensors could upgrade to a Sony Sensor, but not much more AFAIK.

I just did some research online and I found out that the Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Samsung S5K3P3 16 MP sensor, which is also included as a driver in the Mido folder. I looked on AliExpress and put together a comparison photo of the 2 sensors side by side and it looks like it may fit inside the Mido. (The number of pins are exactly the same)
Does anyone have a spare Note 3 lying around and would be willing to test on their Mido? I'm curious on the camera quality as it is 16MP vs the 13MP.

Probably not as I saw that the MTK version has a slightly different connector than the SD (according to witrigs.com). I attached a screenshot of the image on their page.

the best site to get the camera module is aliexpress.com but it is also risky due to scamsters posing as sellers.
Anything new on this topic??
It just shows the Sensors supported by the Board and the Processor. Everything's in the firmware not in the ROMs.
Hi,
I'm about to order a new phone, and as a P10 user currently, I was wondering if the step to a P20 pro is worth it?
Has anyone made a similar step and what are your findings?
thank you

I came from a P9 and I found that it was a step up in the display quality, speakers, camera, battery life, and the overall speed. Was definitely worthwhile but of course a completely different price bracket. Just have to weigh up if you are going to use the camera more, if you are struggling with battery life etc.
For me the camera was the main one, as I have a 2.5 year old so have been taking lots of photos and videos. Something am sure he will appreciate in 15 years time.
