is there a solution to this? this happens when in live vocus and zoom mode, my phone is the exynos version, thank you for answering
Try wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode. If that doesn't work then backup your device and perform a hard factory reset.

It sounds like a software issue. If you wipe the Cache Partition that should remedy your issue. If it doesn't then try a Hard Factory Reset. If both these fail then I would take your device to a Samsung Service Center and let them inspect it.

I think this is a software problem too, because my phone has never crashed, everything starts when I update to pie, I will try your two suggestions, thank you
well live focus needs an object in the foreground thay dosent span across the screen to work best.
try this:
dont use live focus when you want to be using camera or video instead
edit:
is the lens free of any smudges? because it would seem that one of the 2 cameras has some oily smudge on the lense, more specifically the telephoto lense ( the one that does x2 zoom and used to create live view effect. when facing the back of the phone, its the lense on your far left)
try tapping your phone while the camera is off in the palm of your had, maybe the lense is stuck.
or has it fallen recently?
Also option to use volume rocker for zoom is absent.
This is common issue...having this problem for a month now..solution is changing camera module unfortunately.
Check that there is allso buzzing sound coming from camera module..you can even feel the vibration..
Only solution found is using pro mode..in pro mode it is not using second lens wich is causing trouble...
Try with your finger blocking it...
Hardware issue unfortunately. I had mine swapped.
Even I am having the same problem. There was no problem when the phone was running oreo. As soon as i updated to pie the 2x zoom lens starts to vibrate as soon as I activate it. Sigh !

Try clearing the data from the camera app..
Also restart the phone (if you haven't already) and clean the lens. Simple yet sometimes v.effective
If that doesn't work have you tried searching within the thread of your current ROM?
I tried but to no avail. I even reflashed the camera firmware. I suspect the lens was somehow stuck or wad when i drop it when i was aslp.
If your still under warranty send it back...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Try other camera app's. Is this problem not disappear is problem with you firmware and try re-flas rom.
I tried reflashin it, factory reset, format everything that could be formatted. Still like the same. Look like i have to replace the camera module myself. SIGH

I went to take a picture today and my camera instantly went to the front facing camera. The option to switch to the rear camera was missing. I click on the icon for panorama and I get a message that says " Sorry, no back facing camera available". I have tried everything I can think of including:
Rebooting the phone.
Deleting data and cache
Uninstalling camera updates
Factory Reset
Installing a different Rom.
Nothing has worked. Any other ideas before I contact Support?
I have this problem with two different phones...... On one I managed to repair is temporarily through a panicked series of resets etc. The other I had to RMA.

I had this problem with my Nexus 5. rear camera would stop working. One thing to try is boot to safe mode and see if it works. Safe mode disables any 3rd party apps that can cause the camera to crash. If it works, it could be an app. For me, sometimes in safe mode it wouldnt work either. I contacted Google, went through a few steps and they sent me out a replacement device.
the exact thing happens to me too

The answer is in this thread. You have to get it returned.
I was wondering if anyone else had this issue with the front facing camera. There's a couple people that had this issue as well, check the
mentions for SamsungSupport on Twitter a couple days back(at the time of this post)
There's even a video of it in action: https://twitter.com/Hired_Assassin5/status/918633351510200320
As you can see at the top, there's some major discoloration going on. It's almost like a negative image.
https://i.imgur.com/2ipVzgS.jpg
I got the phone on Sep 15th, release day. The camera was working fine up until around Oct 5th that I know of. Taking selfies with the dog, etc.
Well, I opened it up on the 12th, haven't used it for a while, and I noticed that issue you see in the first image. I contacted Samsung and they had me
go through the whole troubleshooting process, all the way to me factory resetting my device. Factory Reset, then skipped all the setup wizards
and went straight to testing the camera. Issue is still present!
So the next day, I went to my carrier store, they said they never seen that before. So they're ordering me a shipment to replace it, possible defect.
Well, that night, I decided to try and look deeper into the issue. Flashlight on camera lenses, didn't see anything. Then I remembered from previous
android phones, there's hardware codes you can enter into the Dialer, so I input *#0*#, which is the hardware testing screen.
It looks like this:
https://i.imgur.com/RhJD4WJ.jpg
So obviously, one of the options is "FRONT CAM". I thought I would "test" it. I clicked on it, and it was working fine! I said oh sh!t, WTH.
This is the screenshot of it:
https://i.imgur.com/2BiaA7U.jpg
Then I took the picture as well, and it turned out just fine, like a normal camera. Well when you tap the screen again, it backs out, and switches
into a different mode, or something. And well sure enough, that issue I was having in my main camera app showed up!
This is a screenshot of it:
https://i.imgur.com/kGgJDD1.jpg
Now this is where I'm wondering if the Geniuses and good people here at XDA can figure out.
If you notice in the first screenshot of the "test" https://i.imgur.com/2BiaA7U.jpg
It says SUB AP at the top left....
Then in the next one, the defective one or whatever https://i.imgur.com/kGgJDD1.jpg
It says SUB CC.
Does anyone know what those are, or what they stand for? And if possible, how can I get my camera app to go back to using the correct mode or whatever that is.
This issue happens in all camera apps, the Samsung default camera app, play store camera apps, etc.
Thanks.

I'm not having that issue *knocks on wood*
But it doesn't sound like a hardware issue though.
Sub AP, Sub CC are probably different Samsung settings not available to end users. Any advice I'd give is to back up, hard reset, test if problem still present, if problem fixed restore data.
When does the problem usually happen, in bright or low light?
What if you use the front camera "flash" does it still happen?

I originally thought it was a hardware issue, but seeing it function normally when I did the diagnostic testing, I knew it had to be
something that triggered the software to not work correctly.
the issue is still present no matter what settings I change. Changing resolution, flash on/off, picture size, HDR on/off/auto, all the settings
I can find, the issue is still exists.
EDIT: Is a hard rest the same as a Factory Reset?

Dam, that's unfortunate. That's 4 people now that have had this issue. I wonder how much worse it will get. Hopefully the new replacement doesn't have this issue.
It's weird because it was working fine for a few weeks, and then something happened. Not sure if it auto updated without me knowing and caused this issue.

If you did not mistreat the device, dropped it or fiddle with system settings or something of the sort, warranty is the all time solution for these problems
Hey my note 8 front camera just experienced the same issue. I've talked to Samsung support, and frankly it seems like it is a hardware issue. It is recommended that you use Samsung Support to make a service request. Free shipping both ways, so if you can live without your phone for a week or two (or have a backup phone to use), that's the route I recommend people going.
Original Problem:
MENU / COMMON APPLICATION ( NATIVE) - CAMERA / VIDEO - CAMERA EFFECTS NOT WORKING
Problem found:
FRONT CAMERA FAIL
Solution:
REPLACED COMPONENT

sorry to raise up this issue again.. my s8+ is from Indonesia region, and facing the same issue when try to use front camera is failed with notification Warning Unknown Error Occured.
already try Wipe cache partition and hard reset but still facing the same issue..
but if i use front camera for video call thru whatsapp it's working fine, but yet again if check thru *#0*# for Front Camera it's Camera Failed..
is it hardware issue or FW issue ?
Front Facing camera has double image
Has anyone found a fix for this issue yet? Mine started this issue last year and I haven't found a remedy for it yet. Ugh.
Hello, my Mi A2 seems to have a strange effect when focusing on the primary lens. I would just like to know if this is normal or not. It seems when on the low light lens the focus is even across the image but the primary lens it seems to wash from one side to the other.
Here is a video to illustrate.
Does anybody else's do this? Thanks!
I've been having the same issue for a while now! It's very annoying and I have no idea how to fix it! I've been using the low light lens and just taking pictures with that. I cannot tell if it is a hardware or software issue either. I'm going to install a custom rom soon, just haven't had time to do it, so hopefully that fixes the issue!
i think it's a software issue, because after capture everything is OK

I still have issues after capture. If I'm capturing text the top half is unreadable in portrait because it's so blurry, and when I tap to focus on the top it doesn't help.
Same issues here
I have exactly the same issue... It seems like the extremes of the picture are better and the sides really blurry. For text is really bad, and also for pictures when you want the focus not being in the center. As you mention, touching the focus does not help.
I have no solution for now, thinking on sending it back...
Doubed HW issue
I'm sorry to say I feel it like a HW issue as I am facing the same issue with GCam in my MI A2.
i too have the same problame even after capture...
It's fixed on my phone now, unfortunately I had to get a new camera module. The issue is likely caused by a misaligned lens element, so the only option is to swap the camera module or warranty the phone. Mine works great now. Shouldn't have had to fix it but I guess these things happen I guess.

mia2 camera issue after pie update
my mia2 primary camera does not focus properly ,videos are totally blurred after the pie update, hope xiomi resolves the camera issue soon.I think this is software issue,if it would have been a HW issue, why would the camera hadbeen working perfectly on OREO?
After just having received the Android Pie 9.0 update yesterday, I still have the same issues as since I bought this phone:
Being that after a restart the phone is unusable, as it starts doing whatever it wants, as if there were shadow presses and swipes on the display.
These totally random, involuntary movements, as if I were touching the screen, even though I don't. Those occur so fast that I can only stop it (for a limited time) by pressing the power button (turning off the display and all actions), are totally not something I have ever experienced on another phone before, not even with OnePlus.
I took my case off just in case this would cause pressure on the phone, but it still happens without the case. I propped the phone up so that I definitely don't touch or cover any sensors, but it still happens.
It seems some internal sensor is broken, as this issue still persists after updating to Android 9.0. Unless this might be related to the Nova launcher?
Unfortunately I don't see a way of recording this issue without compromising my personal information, so I can only describe it.
I hope I can resolve this through a device swap through my carrier, but I doubt it. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

No, there is no necessity for this.
In the fact issue occurs also in Safe Mode as well as after cleaning the system cache (wiped through the menu which is available for soft reset / wiping all data).
The issue got only more and more severe this week and sometimes temporarily froze the screen / inputs and did lead to error messages on the camera app, making it impossible to take photos temporarily.
Huawei referred me to a local repair shop and I will hand in the phone for repair by early next week, once I have organised a replacement phone.
