If I am reading everything correctly, the att version is xt1097 and has a locked bootloader. There is no way to unlock the bootloader and there is no root method for a moto x bought from att. Am I correct in this assumption? :crying:

Yes you are correct. The original Moto X (carrier locked) bootloaders can be unlocked using "Sunshine", there is a potential it will become available for the 2014 version in the future, but I don't think it will be anytime soon.
Secondly, there is no reason to get the AT&T version because rumor is Motorola is going to enable all the AT&T supported LTE bands in the Pure version: http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-x-pure-edition-xt1095-may-soon-get-more-lte-bands
Is there a way to force the update for android lollipop to the AT&T variant. I bought a AT&T Moto X used and got it carrier unlock. Is there any way to get AT&T to just let Motorola to update my phone it is basically not their locked phone any more. Is there a pure edition stock image that can work perfectly fine to flash on to my device and yes i seen the person who was able to flash the pure edition stock image but had to flash some extra stuff but is there another easier thing that works. AT&T should let people who unlock their phone decide if they get update or not. Thank guys.
No. You need to wait until it's pushed to your phone. The AT&T variant does not have an unlockable bootloader, ergo you are at their mercy for updates. You should have bought the Pure edition.
Is anybody working on the XT1097 with mofo support? There is tons of stuff going on with the verizon variant. I wonder if it doesn't work on the XT1097.
Thanks

Do you have a copy of the the most recent version system.img (fxz) for the XT1097? That is what is required to begin the process.
Is 5.0 the most recent version for the XT1097? Idk.
There are likely less people who have the XT1097 b/c you had the Pure Edition available for GSM carriers. But the starting place is for someone to get the system.img (fxz) for the phone.
I found mine for the XT1060 on my computer where MDM stores the firmware

I see. I don't have the phone but I've always wanted it but wanted to have root access first. I knew sometime soon someone would find root.

XT1097 root is a available since day one. This version is identical to 1095 and you don't need anything else because the boot loader is available to unlock. Depends the version but Mexican, Canadian, Brazilian and European are good to root. I think that only AT&T is hard locked.

Oh, ok is the XT1097 the Pure Edition. I just assumed it was the AT&T locked model.

No and no. The pure edition is only the XT1095 and is only for sale in the USA. although if you buy your phone directly from Motorola in other country like México, Brazil or Canada your phone is consider as well a "pure edition" BUT model XT1097 and you can unlock the bootloader or install all the things are designed for the 1095. The only differences between both models are the bands that supports. For example, here in Mexico the 1097 is for sale with Motorola, Nextel and Telcel and all three companies allow to unlock the bootloader, but in US the 1097 AT&T version is hard locked. I think that you should let us know what version are you planning to buy and where to see if is good for root and all other things. I have a post to convert any model to pure edition as well.
The XT1097 is the AT&T variant with the locked bootloader. The xt1095 is the PE.

Ok well then you need the latest version of the system.img (fxz) file for it to begin the process. It is possible that you could use the fxz for the pure edition, idk, but if the hardware is the same then yes. Most importantly, you need the system partitions to be the same size if you want to go that route.
Is there a reason you don't want to buy the pure edition?

It sounds bad but it's cheaper.
I would have thought there would be more interest in the AT&T model being rooted.

It's cheaper b/c you can't unlock the bootloader.

I wouldn't - anyone who wants to root buys the pure edition. You can use your subsidized upgrade to flip an iPhone and then buy the PE with the profits when it goes on sales.
The only reason there is this much interest in the Verizon model is b/c there was no Verizon pure edition so we had no choice if we wanted a Moto X 2014.

I for one want root on the ATT version. So there is interest. I had an upgrade and couldn't see paying full price when I didn't have to. Yes I could have flipped an iphone or something but I could live without root so it wasn't worth the trouble.

Well like said before you need a copy of the system.img for your device. Nothing will happen until you find one. I posted this on the MoFo thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60440593&postcount=422
The starting point for all of this is the system.img from the 5.0 fxz for the XT1097. If you have Motorola Device Manager installed on your PC and used it to upgrade your device, it will be in C:\programdata\motorola\sue\firmwares.
If you can get me that file, I can try to use the processes in these posts to create a pre-rooted image for your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60332412&postcount=22
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60389310&postcount=177
If no one used MDM to update to 5.0 or this file cannot be found for you device, I suggest when the 5.1 update rolls out that you NOT take the OTA. Disable the app MotorolaOTA if you can. Wait to see if those of us with the XT1096 who update to 5.1 are still able to get root using MoFo.
If so, make sure you have MDM installed on your PC and that it sees your device when you connect it. Then when the 5.1 OTA rolls out, do not take it. Instead use MDM to update. Then you will have the 5.1 system.img for the XT1097 on your PC.
If I buy the XT1095 model is it guaranteed that Motorola will allow me to unlock the bootloader?
I know how to check once I buy the phone, but I don't know if I should buy it. There is no developer version for the Moto X 2014 as far as I can tell.
P.S. I just learned the hard way that the XT1097 (ATT) bootloader cannot be unlocked. Motorola won't unlock it. Third party tools (Kingroot + Sunshine) don't work with the August firmware update, and the phone cannot be downgraded to older stock firmware without an unlocked bootloader (from what I can tell).
If no, is there comparable device I should buy?
I buy before 4 mounths a xt 1097 ftpm china shop and everything was ok.
I unlock bootloader and everything is ok until now.
I dont know something else.
I have xt1095 and just unlocked the bootloader 3 days ago. So yeah
I have an unlocked Moto G6 that I am trying to flash with Verizon firmware. Can anyone point me in the right direction? A google search has shown nothing.

What do you mean by unlocked. There bootloader unlock and sim unlock. Sim unlock just allows you to use another network. Bootloader unlock allows to to flash. Also there is no Verizon firmware to flash because the Verizon model can't be bootloader unlocked which means you can't flash it. Verizon and att are notoriously the worst when it comes to having there phones eligible to be bootloader unlocked

I guess it's SIM unlocked since I can pretty much use it with any carrier by swapping the SIM card. I bought the phone new and unlocked from Republic Wireless and am trying to get it working with full features with Verizon Prepaid. A couple of folks on Reddit mentioned that I could flash the phone with Verizon software in order to get it to work as if I'd bought the G6 from Verizon.
