Hi all,
Hoping someone can help; I've had the phone for a week and speakers have been fine, I've actually started making calls more this weekend and today and I've noticed a hissing noise whenever the other person speaks; it really reduces clarity a bit. I have full signal my end; I've made test calls to other people and my answerphone, when there's no talking on the call there is no hiss, it's only when the other end speaks that there's a hissing noise, almost like it's been recorded and relayed through the phone if that makes sense.
Does anyone else get this or is it crystal clear for everyone?
It's nothing to do with Beats Audio, I've made calls with that on and off with the same outcome.
many thanks!

How old are you? Serious question.
People with young ears can hear higher frequencies that older people can not and that's an established scientifically proven fact.
If you're in the 15 to 25 age range the HTC One may perform, to your ears, substantially differently to people in other age ranges.

This doesn't make a hissing noise acceptable. If it happens on every call, even in different locations, the phone should be sent back for an exchange.

I'm 29. It's definitely something not 100% right. I came from an iPhone 4S and although quality was never amazing, I noticed it being a problem as I have with the HTC. Seeing as this is a better phone than the 4S; I expect call quality to be better also, not worse.
I've just heard so many reviews saying call quality was so good and when I speak to people over the phone, it sounds like a recording made on a cassette and I find myself having to turn the volume up to max.
I did consider that the people I speak to may have a bad signal too so rang 3 (the network I'm on) and listened to their menus, the thinking being that if I have full signal there should be no problem and still there was distortion in the recorded menus.
Anyway, I've rang 3 and they've happily said they'll exchange the handset, only problem is they can't get stock until the 23rd April. I can still make out what people are saying so it's not an emergency, it's just that when you have a premium handset you want it to be just that. From all the digging around I've done it looks like a hardware issue with my phone. It;s just odd though because in regular use, the speakers are fantastic.

If you physically can not hear any hissing then hissing isn't an issue.
If someone who can hear 'hissing' and changes their handset and can still hear hissing then it's an issue for them.
Hissing could be a side effect of noise cancelling.
Anyone who's had any experience of ANR in recording situations will confirm that.

I've had 4 handsets now that have all had this problem. Try listening to classical music on low volume or record a video in a quiet room and play it back. Also try classical music with headphones on low volume, same issue. Beats audio makes this issue worse but does not create it. After so many replacements I'm now done with this phone, getting an s4 instead, which is a real shame.

Have done, did do, still am. Quality headphones, too. Lots of tops, still no 'hiss'
I listen to a lot of spoken word/classical/stuff, sourced direct from CD as well as radio/web/ and FLAC wherever possible.
I understand that 'hiss' on my HTC One isn't an issue for me but also happy to state that it might be for others
and I might not hear hiss as a result of loitering round 40k sound systems.
Look after your ears. Like your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone
i have had this very same problem on the 3 handsets i have had, all sim free phones from phones4u. I am also on '3' and wonder if its a sim card or network issue? When it works fine the call quality is very good however i would say that in 6/10 calls i have the hiss/static noise when the other person is speaking.
I have a 'late build' handset from one of the fw build places and generally the build quality is better and i also do not suffer the haptic button/lack of response on back and home buttons that i had on the previous devices.
Could it possibly be sim card related?
Hi all
I have the same issue with about 90% of calls and am also with 3. I'm on my 3rd handset now and all have had the same problem. The hissing is only when the other person speaks and although I can still understand them, it's very annoying. Apart from this issue, the phone is great but I'm seriously thinking of changing to the S4 which I'm really not happy about.
I've also changed my SIM for a new card today and it's made no difference. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Hissing. Try another handset. Troll.
Well, I'm pleased it's not just me then!
As I said, replacement due next week, if it's the same then that'll be a shame. I'm not sure yet if it's enough to make me cancel and get another phone but it would be nice if there was an improvement.
There is a low hissing on video recording in silent rooms but to be honest, it's not really audible in a normal environment and it's no different to other handsets I've recorded video on. You can't expect a phone to be 100% brilliant at everything it does, just hope for it! If I want a clean sounding, picture perfect video, I'd use my camcorder. When I need to take a video there and then and have the phone, usually it's of my kids and usually they're running and screaming so any hissing is not heard.
I did take a call this morning and although not what I would describe as crystal clear, was an improvement on yesterday; perhaps it is signal related and by that I mean the signal of the person at the other end. If their signal is weaker then perhaps this is just how it sounds on the HTC and I will have to live with it if I like the phone enough; which I do.
Thanks again everyone, you've helped me not to feel alone and that it was all in my head!

Try setting the phone to GSM / 2G and see if you still have the "hissing". I have this on Xperia Z on Orange and 3 mobile when the phone is in 3G or H mode while making calls.
Edit: sorry I noticed you're on 3 mobile and they don't have 2G. I think it is related to network mode though and not reception.

Thanks for that helpful and constructive reply. HTC told me to try changing the SIM card, unfortunately I'm not as phone savvy as you obviously are!
I'm just trying to work out why all three handsets had the same issue. I only have 8 more days left of 3's 28 day exchange policy, so need to decide whether to put up with this or exchange for an alternative handset that hopefully won't have this issue.
I don't honestly think that getting another handset will change the call hissing issue as u have had it on all 3 if mine. Honestly think it must be '3' thing don't know if it's network or SIM or setting problem. I am just trying to decide if I can live with it or not.

That could be true but I was with 3 for my iPhone 4S and never once noticed the hissing noise
Nothing wrong with three, have had a few phones with them with no issue. Also everyone else I know on three doesn't have this issue.

I''ve noticed that this issue for me only occurs when I call someone. When I receive calls the quality is excellent with no hissing when the caller speaks. Any ideas why this might be?

I have read about this issue. It is due to the noise cancelling mic configuration. It was first noticed in 1080P videos where there is a slight hiss no matter what. So far it is thought to be a software issue that should be fixable via changing a gain setting we don't have access to currently. Again this is just hear say right now so take it with a grain of salt.
Hope HTC recognise this problem quickly along with the other things like the captive button issues and release a fix asap or they face undoing all the hardwork that was but into designing this phone and forcing everyone to the gs4

Its normal for a phone with a small microphone, its not really built for this type of tasks. What I usually do for my band videos is getting an external microphone the BOYA BYMM1 is cheap and a copy of the Rode Video Mic and it does a pretty good job
This is crap. I knew it was a good idea to sell my p20pro . There is no external mic for micro usb type c . That the "small" mic is a problem is nonesense. Newer iphones (the old were also bad) and nokia phones can handle loud and bassy sound excellent. Im no technician but i think its a softwareproblem too. Nokia and apple phones detect high soundpressure and autmatically lower the sensitivity. With my 8 year old nokia 808 i can stand literally IN the speaker and the sound was crystal clear. And the videoquality was by far better than ANY phone (except panasonic cm1) . Hoping for the nokia hmd penta cam phone to be sth good

Hello,
I've had my Xperia 1ii for 2 weeks now and have noticed when filming video in the camera app or cinema pro, there is a kind of high pitch whine on playback. When testing in Instagram/Snapchat/WhatsApp it isn't as bad but there's still a little random noise.
Has anyone else experienced this or is the phone faulty?
Thanks
Read that somewhere, turn down microphone sensitivity. Spose to fix it.

It's so loud, I'd say it's like a high pitch ringing bell on my phone, surely this isn't what most people are experiencing?

I've decided to keep it. Everyone I've spoken to about it have said they get the same issue so hopefully Sony will fix it in their next software update.
Of, it seems when ever you open either camera app or cinema pro app and place the phone near your ear, you can hear a hiss sound. I believe that's what's causing the hissing sound as it's being amplified by the microphones.
Maybe not everyone ears is as sensitive so might not notice it as much.

Sounds like the microphone software is set up higher than the hardware can physically handle and you're hearing the actual Hertz rate leak out electrically. Feature phones back in the day had that notorious high pitch ocilating whine.
It's not even noise, it's like an ocilating whine right?
That really sucks, the only solution is to turn down volume sensitivity, unless there's just a ground fault with the microphone design Sony is now using. That would be really bad because there's no fix to that.
Found the post I read a while ago, apparently it's the microphone picking up lens nose. That's all they put. Whether it's accurate or not I don't know.

It seems to just happen in Sony's apps so hopefully after a software update it'll be normal. When using video in Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat the problem isn't there. Cinema pro is ridiculously sensitive, it'll pick up every normal foot step you make and play it back like you're stomping around a room.
I just did another test with some headphones plugged in while doing a video recording. It has stopped the hissing sound so hopefully a software fix can resolve this. Please test to see if you have notice an improvement

Great, thanks,
Just got the phone today. Coming from a Pixel 2XL with front facing speakers my expectations were not great. It doesn't have the bass and clarity of those on the Pixel 2XL but it is perfectly fine.
I have mine - now fully charged. Ask away .....
The phone feels great in the hand.
Nice and light
Screen very clear
Speakers are loud .... very clear. not very bass'y but not as bad as i was starting to think (obviously just my opinion)
Software very fast
Transfer from old phone very easy
Ive come from a P20 Pro

haptics are nice. the software and hardware all feels slick and premium. if you want loads of bass on your speakers beware (the equalizer in YTM helps a bit) but if you are more interested in clear audio for calls etc, and volume for speakerphone calls then all seems OK to me

Not that I can see. It's quite refreshing for a phone to be a little smaller again.

Hi, just yesterday i bought a realme gt2 global version. I have been testing all the functions and it works perfectly, but in particular the quality of its microphone is horrible. I do not know if it is only my unit or if it happens in all units. Does anyone know something? Thanks
Oh man, hoping it is just yours - when I receive mine I will be able to confirm but I will likely only receive it end of the month / early April.
I noticed the same on some youtube video camera samples, in videos it sounds muffled. Do you mean call quality is bad too?
Same here. Compared with GT Neo 2 this GT2 mic is worse!

I think im between a Realme GT neo 2 (It has a good mic, but bad cameras....) or a Oneplus 9 Pro on 550€ (second hand but almost like new)... Its a shame, i was really happy with my GT2, but im going to hate not being able to send a WhatsApp audio with good quality...

In the tests that I have tried the Neo2 was better, but a little better. Taking into account the section of the cameras (the main one of the Neo2 is much worse than the imx766) and that it is from last year and will stop receiving updates a year before,… For my part, I would wait for the Neo3 or the Poco F4 to assess changing it. It is true that the price of the GT2 is a bit high compared to the Neo2, but if you have bought it on sale I think it is a good purchase, since the camera alone is worth about ~120$.
I also think that it is very valid for sending audio and talking on the phone, it may not be the best microphone but it defends itself. Maybe it can be fixed in an update (who knows?).
Sigh, this is really frustrating. I wonder if the Pro has the same issue?
So if one is on a phone, not on loudspeaker is it an issue or only if on loudspeaker?
WhatsApp voice notes not great quality either, not ideal. Wonder if an update would fix it although I'm assuming not.
Is there anyway to submit feedback to Realme? I'm hoping this is software, seems like such a dumb mistake or stupid place to cut corners

Yes, couldn't agree more...
I just received my device and the microphone doesn't sound bad!
I was prepared to send it back because of the mic but that isn't the case.
I have the global version and a quick comparison against my OP 5T its much worse. Theres background noise and it sounds muffled on the GT2 whereas my old phone sounds very clear compared to it.
This with the notification issue a few other people are having I may have to send it back
I just tested the mic and yeah it's not as good as my previous phone but it's not that bad.
Judging by what I've heard the problem is in the audio bit rate, realme for some reason keeps lauching phones with 96kbps instead of the minimum 192 or even 320kb.
Let's see if with the next updates they fix it. The march update is late by the way. Still on february security patch.
Hi! New owner of the GT2, having the same issue. I've reporter it here: https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1511645176815226880 , don't know if is the right place, but let's hope... Also, please report, maybe it will be fixed.
I did something to test if it's a hardware problem or software related. You can check different audio types of recording using Open Camera from Google Play. In Open Camera there is an option to change the audio by going to Settings, Video settings..., Audio source, and chose which sounds better to you. So, lets hope for an update from realme or for a way to root and manualy fix this.
As I've said before my suspicions are correct, it's the software.
I recorded videos in different audio sources and they all sound **** but in Unprocessed mode it sounds clean as it can be, the only problem is the volume, it's very quiet and there's white noise.
They have to tweak the noise supression algorithm. It sounds like my headset microphone without post processing (noise supression, echo cancelation) my voice sounds correct but there's white noise and keyboard/mouse are audible.
With it enabled, I sound more "artificial" but the background noises are supressed.
And of course increase the bit rate, it's at 93kb. Lol
Such a pitty phones have soo many bugs and issues now a days.
I ended up getting a refund on my GT2as the store could not get the global version and then purchased a OnePlus 9RT. Seems I may have dodged a bullet and skipped owning a buggy phone.
My GFs Redmi Note 10 Pro also had issues with the mic and proximity sensor. Great phone otherwise, but makes it frustrating for her to use.
Hopefully Realme fix the issue.
Was looking forward to buy this. First, the screen quality issue. Next, this mic issue. As tech experts say, 'Dont buy a phone with issues, hoping about future updates'. Might have to drop this phone, and buy GT Neo 3.
