Linux on DeX on S9 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Linux on DeX now works on the S9. An update was pushed today which adds support for the S9. You need to be on Android Pie, and then download the LoD 1.0.51 apk from SamMobile. Works well on my S9 Exynos although every once in a while it warns me that the container is running out of memory and LoD may slow down. Other than that it works well.

Not working for me

Hi. It did´t work on my S9 running Pie. Keeps popping up the message Linux on Dex requires your device to have the latest software...bla bla bla...my S9 is up to date. I used the LoD version 1.0.51.

Mine was updated on April 2nd 2019. Current Version: G9600ZHS3CSC1 /G9600OWO3CSAC/G9600ZCU3CSAA - Security patch level: March 1st 2019. When I check if there is any new updade, it says: Your software is up to date. So I will wait until I receive the security patch update of April and test again the Linux on Dex version 1.0.51 on my S9. Maybe this is the problem.

Ok i will check it out when i get there. However i am struggling to get the Linux on Dex beta to install on my s9
At the start when you download the app i am told to click the + button and select download from server.
When i select download from server i get this error message.

Sorry was running old version, i have now installed it

Tried it, and I have to say I'm not impressed. Linux Deploy does a better job for the most part. The main advantage of LoD is that it doesn't require root. But we're stuck with and outdated version of Ubuntu with Unity (yuck) and around 4 gigs of unnecessary files. I can't get sshd working either.

I believe you can update from the official linuxondex webpage. However am unsure how to do it myself.

My security patch is from June 1, g960wvls5csea but I get the message when I try to run LoD update sftware blah.

I don't know how to enable adb on it, but I would expect that it would be available, for the moment merely doing a

adb pull /system
will be as much as anyone can expect.
In the event it actually supports fastboot, I'd also like to request a

Here's a guide on enabling adb on wear, it's not specific to any one device:
[How-To] Android Wear: Enable Debugging, Take Screenshots, Unlock The Bootloader, And Root The LG G Watch
You won't be able to root it however for the time being, you need a custom recovery specifically for your device.
I don't know if there's an OTA out yet or not, but I would not be surprised if there is/will be one soon.
Please make note of if you got an ota if you upload a dump.

Also, what is the bootloader version? Most reliable way is to check in fastboot mode.

Is it same kernel as original g watch? I'm wondering if we can use the same root exploit
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No they're not the same kernel:
android / kernel/msm / android-msm-dory-3.10-kitkat-wear
android / kernel/msm / android-msm-lenok-3.10-kitkat-wear
lenok's kernel is currently newer then sprat's.
I cant tell you what you can do with the differences, I assume it's a matter of waiting for a custom recovery to be ported.
How long ago have you updated your gwar? If it was very recent, could you do an "adb bugreport" and post that?
If it's recent enough it may still have the ota details inside.

Also: android / kernel/msm / android-msm-dory-3.10-kitkat-wear
I had the wrong repo, dory is the gwa and lenok is the gwar.
Sprat is the gear live, the same conclusion is drawn however: lenok is still newer then dory as far as kernels go.

Request 4.4W.1 Rom
would be great if someone could manage to pull the original rom the LGWR comes with
the update to 4.4W.2 introduces a nasty bug that no longer updates the time every minute in ambient mode
(someone still running 4.4W.1 and able to confirm the bug isn't there?)
I learned about this too late and immediately updated my watch on arrival
I still need a dump of KIW52H if anyone still has an unupdated gwar
Cool, dev talk. Well here is my progress. I used the pulled boot.img someone posted here amd I made it insecure and I compiled the insecure boot.img. i am calling it a night but will work on it more this week when I have more time. Although it looks promising.
I also have looked at the oroginal lg g watch tweaks made and think i know how to boost the vibration setting on our device.

Official ROM (5.0.2) update, release notes / fixes?

Today my D405n updated from D405n20a to D405n20c (notice the change from ~a to ~c). The Android version remained 5.0.2, so I guess it's a rather minor update. Software version is now V20c-EUR-XX, not sure what is was before.
The first attempt (via FOTA update) failed, because it claimed (incorrectly) that my device was rooted. The LGMobileSupportTool had no such problems, all it needed was for me to free up a sizeable chunk of RAM (almost 1 GB...). Other than that, it updated flawlessly, without any issues or warnings. So far I have not noticed any differences in appearance or functionality.
What surprised me, however, was the fact that this update is mentioned absolutely nowhere: not on the LG support page, not even on this forum. I don't know when this update was released. Anybody any idea what this update actually accomplishes?
i just installed the update but i dont see any difference
Guys check if it fixed the Stagefright bug. You can see it using an app on the play store. My update is currently downloading so I'll respond when it finishes and I check.
---------- Post added at 02:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 PM ----------
Yeah that was it guys! My updated finished and I downloaded the stagefright detector app from the Play Store. It says that my phone is not vulnerable. When I used this app before the patch it said that i was affected so now it's fixed. I don't know if anything else is fixed, if I find something I'll post.

You can always find new updates with Huawei Firmware Finder, or on this page.
INSTALLATION:
OTA: You need to have stock recovery. you will extract the UPDATE.APP from the .zip and put that in a folder called "dload" in your phone's SD card. Now you can either:
Dial *#*#2846579#*#* in the stock phone app, and go Software Upgrade > SDcard upgrade or
Shutdown the phone, and then hold POWER, and both the VOL buttons until the EMUI update starts
FULL:
You can flash the update.zip in TWRP. It will show a small error but it's fine.
You can also extract the UPDATE.APP and get the partitions boot, cust, system using Huawei Update Extractor (usage instructions in the forum), then flash with fastboot through an unlocked bootloader (HOW DO I DO THAT?)

PErsonally I'm really glad that they keep the patches coming. I'd like to get more than that for sure, but Huawei can't invest on this phone anymore... It's important that they still provide these updates. We have custom ROM development now

Yeah, they are fake every month. Google releases the patches on the first Tuesday every month.
The sizes ARE different to a degree that suggests changes. Surely last month's patches are included though like August in the "September" patch

You talked to google? But you are maybe right. Another person here in xda forum has tells that was possible to infect the device although all fixes which should be included. So, what is the security patch level worth on P8 Lite stock rom? That's the big question. Maybe the patches will be included just partially? Maybe it's a huawei own security patch level?

Of course they released just a patch! Why would they release EMUI 5 or at least EMUI 4.1(non-vodafone) for this device?:good:
Oh well... at least we get security patches...
I "only" want these (being possible):
Android 6.0.1(idc if it's emui 4.1)
Latest GPU drivers(and maybe higher gpu frequency(btw, Huawei support said they can optimize gpu, but they won't raise its mhz) or cpu freq)
Latest kernel, 3.10.107

Question New big update for GW5/5Pro

New Camera Controller feature added
Change zoom on your phone camera remotely through pinching in or out on the screen, or through rotating the bezel.
*This feature is only supported on flagship models released after Samsung Galaxy S20 or Z Flip running at least One UI 5.1.
Samsung Members
A new “Connected device diagnostics” option has been added to check the proper performance of the Galaxy Watch’s battery status, touch screen function, etc. on the connected phone.
*Please update Samsung Members and Galaxy Wearable app to the latest versions for using the ‘Connected device diagnostics’ feature.
Stability and reliability
The stability has been improved.
This update also brings the January 2023 security patch to Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. We’d expect most of these features to expand to Galaxy Watch 4 in time.
Changelog look's awsome! Anyone get?

How is this a big update? It's just a stupid simple app that they added. A big update would be improvement to the GPS / HR / blood oxygen measuring algorithms, which are honestly bad.
