Battery Drain Issue - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

My Note 8 has been great, I bought it last year brand spankers. But, since one week, after it drops to 15 percent, it just turns off. I have been using a genuine charger and rarely charge beyond 91-95... sometimes to a 100.
I know this issue has been addressed before but I have tried a cache wipe, a battery caliberation and a system wipe. it keeps doing this. I don't want to have a battery replacement since it would void warranty... anything I am missing out?
any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks everyone.

the biggest damage to batteries occurs precisely when going very low or completely depleted, not when going up to 100%

Have you tried taking your device to a Samsung Service Centre?

Not exactly. I am at a different location where they're not entertaining my request. I spoke to them regarding this

Your battery is dead.
Get a new one at a Samsung Service Center or change it by yourself (Void Warranty).

the answer is implied, you tried to take care of your battery by not charging to 100%, but in fact you neglected the real reason why batteries fail prematurely, which is deep discharging or worst, totally depleting it, so the answer is, no way to fix your "battery drain" , only way to go is a new battery

Battery dies early

My battery on any rom dies at 9 percent left.what does that mean
My battery on any rom dies at 9 percent left and my phone cuts off. When I turn it back on it says 0.what does that? Is that a hardware problem
No, it just means that your battery calibration is a little off. It's nothing to worry about, as from what I understand, most N1s have this issue. I know that mine does.
i dont like that at all. i lost 10 percent of my battery. could i call HTC and maybe get a replacement

Hello? Is this thing on?

You were already told it's calibration, so recalibrate it. Sending it to HTC is complete nonsense.
Don't dare ask how to recalibrate the battery, use the search engine this time.
no its not necessarily calibration. my battery has always dies at 8-10% from the day i bought the phone brand new, and i've wiped my battery stats a million times and re-calibrated it over and over. some batteries are just less capcity than others as there is some degree of tolerance when manufacturing these things. you can call HTC and get a new battery if you wish.

[Q] Cellphone restarting like nuts

Hello, i've got today an S3 MINI here with a strange issue, the cellphone when using it normally from all sudden it reboots and starts a weird scenario that doesn't boots up until a charger is plugged, when this happens shows an 75% 80% battery level (aprox) and the device works for a few hours normally and then it drops again.
Tried FACTORY RESET, no go... What's the next step on the issue??
Thanks!

You have a bad battery. The same thing happend to me last month. If you pull out battery, you'll probably notice it's inflated a bit.

Or something else died in your battery. but if it can't hold charge, chargest fast and discharges even faster, restarts.. time to change the battery. They're not expensive luckaly

Was the battery indeed, Samsung took care over it, but makes me wonder... How bad is assembling Samsung it's phones...

Are battery problems with this phone somewhat common?

Pretty sure I have a faulty battery that is dying while trying to boot up from 0%.
Any other reports of battery issues with this phone?

Never had this happen
Could be a bad battery. My sweetie just bought a new one whilst out on the town even though I have another one.
She's on my s4. But, I would say you hafta lift the board with a fingernail file.
If using a metal nail file. Obviously, no power.
I came across a couple of batteries that came with the Extra Battery Kit directly from Samsung, unable to hold a full charge. There is a problem, but not pertaining to a specific carrier. After multiple replacements, I finally got a Battery from Samsung through their Extra Battery Kit Made and Assembled in Korea. So far, no problems whatsoever. Not saying that location in where the battery was assembled matters. I could have just been lucky.

Where to get replacement batteries

Oneplus 3 is an awesome phone no doubt (if you don't damage it). However with the dash charging, there's a high chance we might need replacement batteries for the phone after a year or two.
Does anyone know where we would be able to obtain dash capable batteries for replacement? It would be a great disappointment if we are not able to replace it.
*it is a concern because at least in Singapore, there is 0 support despite purchasing a local set. You will be given an email to make an appointment to bring your set down to a location, but NO ONE will respond to your email. Oneplus Singapore Facebook as well as official reseller do not provide any support either.
Why would Dash Charge wreck the battery? Afterall if anything the phone heats up less than other phones, because the charging is handled by the adapter, not the phone.

You have a point there. However, batteries will eventually degrade, so it would be great to be able to do a replacement when the time comes

Most damage to a battery is done at night when you charge a phone when you've gone to sleep, as the charger will put it to 100% and keep it there throughout the night, which puts more strain on the battery. (just look into Sony Qnovo battery charging tech in their new phones).
The dash charger has been proven to change people's charging habits. For example I wake up at 7.30am to go to work at 9am, as soon as I wake up I put my phone on charge. Thus meaning it stays at 100% for less time, and so degrades slower.
just keep your battery b/w 40-80% and it's all good

Awesome! However, the battery capacity seems to be much lower than 3000mah
Stay away from buying non oem batteries. You don't want your phone to be the next Note 7 lol.
Again you wont need a new battery. It degrade really slow. The problem with fastcharging is heat. Batteries dont like heat. Also charging overnight is bull**** since it stops charging when its 100%. Again it doesnt matter what you do.. If u drain it to 0% its not fully empty so really doesnt matter!

Personally I change battery ever 1.5 to 2 years. Batteries have a lifespan and degrade over time. It degrades faster with heat. It's quite disappointing that no one is sellong replacements though.

Exactly. The controller stops the current flow at full charge. It will not top it up if you keep it plugged in such as in the overnight scenario.

The model number on eBay is BLP607.
You'll need BLP613 for OP3.
Maybe after a longer time there will be more replacements, if there aren't already.
If the OnePlus's battery it good I don't see a need for a replacement personality because I change phone after 2 years, when factory support ends and I'm tired of the phone.
I am pretty sure you can't wait to buy a new one before the battery degrade to an unacceptable level.
Like my OnePlus 1, which still has a quite decent battery time, though it has already become my son's toy.
So, don't worry about this too much.
Majority of the users will replace their phones instead of a degraded battery within 2 years. Unless the battery is defective then yea that would be understandable. If you are one the minority who upgrades every 3+ years then kudos to yall for having the will power to resist the upgrade fever.
is there no one who works at one plus and also uses xda?
that dude can help us in getting batteries from the supplier of one plus.
I am using my xperia ZL since 2013. i changed its battery a while ago. now i feel it is time to change my device. moving on to one plus 3 soon.
I think my OnePlus 3 battery is pretty broaken already. Last me for around 4 houers so i need to recharge it several times a day.
I cant find a original battery, so ill probably have to get a not OEM one

Having terrible battery drop

My battery drops off suddenly when it gets low, went from 8% to 5% in seconds.
Also randomly turns off when it's low especially if I'm using something that is a battery drainer.
Should I get the phone warranty replaced?
Have only had phone since Christmas.
On rooted Feb patch.
Yes.. Normally, during the discharge, the voltage drops. A damaged/heavily used battery cannot maintain the voltage above the cutoff value and the device shuts down to prevent damage to the electronics.

Draining your battery that low should only be in rare cases. It's not good at all for long term battery health. Grab the Accubattery app and use it through several charging cycles. It is not a "battery drain" app, but it will accurately assess your current battery condition (capacity). After a few full charging sessions it will return (under the health tab) the capacity of your battery relative to a new battery in terms of mAh and percentage. It will discard charging cycles started before below 20% so be sure to read up on how to use it properly. Don't disconnect until the app tells you the battery is full (don't rely on the phone display). A couple of 20-100% charging cycles will give you health results. https://accubattery.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/209507189-Tab-3-battery-health-screen
As for "should I get the phone warranty replaced", that is an open ended question. If your battery health is below 90% I would say definitely yes you would have a case. Where you bought the phone will have a lot to do with whether you are successful or not. Having some kind of proof will help you out. If direct from Google, be prepared to jump through some hoops like factory resetting your phone, etc. but you will eventually get an RMA if you are polite, persistent and provide evidence. Elsewhere, it depends on the return policy. Some places are better than others. Best of luck. :good:

Yeah you shouldn't drain your battery that low but manufactures always keep some safety barriers and this shouldn't happen to be honest for a relatively new phone.
I do cell phone repair so I know how the batteries are supposed to perform, but I shouldn't get a sudden drop like that after 3 months maybe at 2 years. I've just been trying to figure if it's hardware, but I'm assuming it is.

Get a log using BBS. Your cellphone repair skill has nothing to do with the battery drain. Could be the process running in the background or your using bad written apps.
