Glue leaks - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

I've had this phone for 2 days and after one day of use when i switched on the light in the evening i noticed something that looked like little scratches in the upper and lower part of the device where the screen meets the frame (not on the sides though). This is only noticeable in powerful light or when you look at the device from 5-7cm and at a very specific angle (seems i shouldve checked it better when i picked it up or this was not visible at that time because in the lower part the problem appeared later - i am not entirely sure which case it is). Now i was wondering if this needs some kind of intervention or will go by itself and if this is a known problem with the phone. I found something similar in Jerry's video at 1:32 when the light falls directly on the frame: /watch?v=0IrPJ2l19fc&t=92s (although he might have been messing with that part before filming). In another video from some vlogger i follow he noticed the same problem but at the back glass - at 3:53 : /watch?v=E_K8I8N3S3Y&t=233s . I cannot post links so i posted only the part that comes after the domain name on youtube.
On a f*king 1000 euro phone
P.S. i dont think i trust the ip68 rating anymore after noticing this

XPERIA Screen/Backlight Problems

Hey guys and girls,
I got my brand new X1i on an O2 contract today, ordered through the internet.
However, when switching it on, the first thing that stands out is the screen isn't all black. The upper right hand corner fades to like a dull greeny tinge as if its under pressure or something.
After fiddling around with it, it seems to be the backlight as in bright light, the colours all look fine and black is black. This is also the cause if the backlight is put at it's dullest, but it's most noticable when its at it's brightest.
Is this a issue with all Xperias or just mine?
And is this serious and worth contacting O2 about or will it be okay?
BUMP.
Could anyone tell me simply if this is a common problem, if not, I'll ring O2 now.
A quick reply would be nice
I haven't seen it before and I haven't seen it reported before. If you think it looks out of the ordinary, too much to leave it be, you should indeed phone O2.
Cheers, I shall call now
Post a picture so we can compare and lets us know how it turned out, mkay? =]
Heres the best photos I can snap.
The first two don't really show it well, but the third is the best.
Trust me, when you first switch it on and the Sony Ericsson logo appears, the whole screen is black and that corner fades to that dull green colour. It stands out quite a bit, it's also noticable on the Panels screen.
If you have a dark photo showing, it can affect the colours on that too.
For such a pricey phone, I expect it to be flush black across the screen.
(They're big, so I left them as links. I left them big to show the detail)

I just got off the phone to O2, they get the phone from a third-party so I am expecting an email from them. The woman on the other end said, most likely they will swap it for a new handset at the door, or take it for repairs....but it will say in the email.
Ah, classic case of backlight bleeding. Send it back and you'll get a new one.
Well, hopefully, before next week is out I shall. Just waiting for that elusive email, they said I should have received it by Monday.
Thank you for you're help, I appreciate it
There was a thread on this, some have it too.
I have it as well, black light bleeding. I dont really mind it much since I rarely notice it.
Ive decided to leave it alone since my X1 is unlocked and it'd be a massive hassle to send it away to SE.
I'm pretty sure its common. Even high end LCD TVs have the problem sometimes.
I had it on my first x1 (which I dropped and got a new through insurance), and I've also got it on my new x1.
However, I barely notice it, so I'm okay with it
I wouldn't mind so much if it was white but its a green colour, thats more annoying.
It's gonna get sorted anyway, most likely, they'll swap it at the door for a new one.
I was looking for information about the SPB mobile shell and found this thread.
I also have this issue with the top right corner of the screen, especially when I switch the phone on (on the black startup screen with "experia" written in white).
After startup, I don't really notice the issue since this area of the screen is almost never black (except when switching panels and sometimes when watching videos, but it's hardly noticeable). I'm now wondering if I should return it or not, I got the phone on tuesday and already had to do a hard reset (and reinstall everything I had just installed before) because I couldn't send or receive text messages! I really hope this won't get any worse...
(My phone is a french version, and my carrier is SFR)
Ive had the same issue w/ one...i just returned to BestBuy yesterday and now the replacement is also doing this as well...1 day later
Me too, bugging me like crazy, but seems to be quite common.
- Anthony
Mine has it too but its really not a big deal. I've only noticed it on bootup.
Yeah, don't mind it on startup - who watches it start up?
But I notice it when using the camera (in the black border) and
when switching panels, that's where it's annoying.
- Anthony
yeaa, i got the same problem too. Went over to the sony ericsson centre and they don't have a clue what it was. They said they'll look into it, and thats it. No replacement.
Not happy
i live in indonesia by the way..
Mine too has the issue. Both upper corners are bleeding greenish. It's obvious when the screen is black, not only on start-up, all the time. For example, look at it when playing a movie trailer with really black scenes, it's there.
It has to do with the pixels, not the back-lighting, from what I understand of TFT functionality.
Remember the dead pixels issue on TFT screens? Well, the dead pixel means the transistor of at least one color out of the 3 (RGB) is dead, either locked closed or locked open (anyway, not being able to modulate the light intensity of the subpixel color), so the color is either missing or present at a fixed value, the overall color of the pixel not being the required one. In this case is an issue of mismatch of transistor parameters.
The GREEN pixels do not close completely to block the light. Being a progressive issue from one area to another, it's clear that the thin film transistors are progressively mismatched by the process errors. This is process error in the TFT technology (I work in microelectronics). The process masks can get errors (not the case here), or the masks are ok but the etching process is not properly adjusted. In my Xperia the bleeding gets progressive towards the corner, having a starting point like a center from where it spreads. That is because the etching involves chemicals and liquid flow to spread and cleanse those chemicals. My opinion is that the flow in the case of this particular TFT screen model is from the bottom to the upper side, where the upper corners are the bleeding areas for the chemicals and the effectiveness of cleansing is lower, combined with surface tension of the liquids. The transistors get progressively mismatched in parameters (beta factor) and since they all get driven with the same signal, they block the light less than the good ones. Nothing to do about it. Theoretically it might be possible to map out those pixels and provide a corrected voltage for the mismatched transistors (correction table in the GPU DAC ROM), but this is like tooth extraction through the ass hole (or replacing the spark plugs through the exhaust pipe). It's simpler to just get the ****ing screen right. Sorry guys, we are out of luck here. It seems the 800x480 3inch TFT's are not yet top quality, or at least the ones used by SE. I'm really frustrated that the manufacturer used a cheaper screen in a 600-800$ product. This is how a company can loose customers and get the image crumpled.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 S-Pen Sensitivity Issue

Starting a new thread since I could not find any existing thread on this and it is quite surprising since this is a widespread issue and for the same reason Samsung service here in Melbourne even refused to acknowledge this is an issue! There logic seemingly being if the issue is present in the demo unit in the store as well, it is not an issue! Vodafone has also refused to honor the warranty, even though it is in the first month of my contract and they should be replacing the handset and dealing with Samsung, and have instead told me to provide them with an acknowledgement from Samsung stating it is an issue! Talk about deadlocks!
Now coming to the issue, I have found out that there are sensitivity issues when using the S-Pen on the bottom right and left corners of the screen. There are issue on the top part of the screen as well but they arent as serious. I would also request you to check the same on your device and report back if you are also facing the same.
To check, first get into diagnostics mode by dialing *#0*# and then go to the S-Pen tab.
1. As you can see in the video, the bottom right and left corners have definite and serious issues with S-Pen sensitivity. I found this out, and it is also a use case and one of the major reasons that I went for Galaxy Note 5, while taking a screen grab from the middle of the screen right until the bottom right corner. I just could not do it. As soon as the S Pen reaches near the corner, the sensitivity issue makes sure that input isn't recognized. Not only this, even when it manages to identify the touch, the tracking is random with the S-Pen having a mind of its own.
2. The second issue is while drawing on the top part of the screen with the S-Pen but this one is not as serious as the first one. You can see in the video that S-Pen loses sensitivity in one particular area of the screen. This is easily corrected though, by pressing the S-Pen harder on the screen.
This is apart from the lag and slowness issues that rear their ugly head every once in a while and in a phone which runs an Octa Core CPU with a whopping 4GB of RAM. This is my first Samsung in a long long time and it has left me disappointed again exactly like it did in the past whenever I bought a Samsung phone. To me the level of polish of the hardware on a device costing as much as this is simply not acceptable. What are your thought? Please report in this thread if you are facing the same issue as I am with the S-Pen.

I have multiple stand-alone S Pens and don't experience what you're describing with them or the one included with the device.

Strange because I could replicate it on all the demo devices in the store. That is their reasoning for refusing the warranty as well.
I'll say this, the included pen is more responsive on the display than pens that are pre-Note 5 so something in the pen and/or display has changed.
Does it mean mine has a problem then? I am wondering if anyone else can also confirm the same?
I can confirm the bottom left and right corner of my note 5 behave just like OP's does... but wouldn't have found out if he didn't mention it

Thanks Alex. I found the issue because I could not take a screenshot which finished near the bottom corner of the screen. Now smart select is a headline feature of the phone and this hadrware oversight to be is just not acceptable. The Samsung service would not acknowledge it as an issue let alone do something about it. May be it is only on the first batch of phone. Who knows?
I checked my phone (SM-N9208 TW, mfg: will add later) and the bottom corners have poor tracking with the hover point flying off the screen when held above.
Overall this issue shouldn't affect the usability of the phone if you rarely use these areas since it's still possible though difficult to use the s-pen there.
Edit: I re-tested with my phone flat and s-pen vertical*. The s-pen can be used on the very bottom corners with precise movements, so I don't think will affect usability for most people most of the time.
*Having the s-pen on an angle can affect the tracking significantly as seen in your video. I think the only solution would be to modify the s-pen to track at the very tip. This would probably make the tip non-replaceable and/or more complex and expensive. If someone has time, try using the s-pen without a tip and see if/how it tracks.
Update: I tested a SM-N920W8 in store and it had the same corner issue.
I complained to Vodafone again and they decided to take the phone back. Back to trusty properly working iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. My last Samsung device no matter what the specs. I wouldn't be interested in one even if it will have a gazillion core CPU and few petabytes of RAM.
I have the same issue. Can anyone else, note 5 users confirm about this issue. (Bottom right hover issue)
I dont't face that problem
Edit: here is a screenshot

Mine does it a little bit.
It still passes the test so I believe it's within spec. I honestly don't see it being a warranty issue.

Sometimes, it is the Cover magnet.
Sometimes, it is the Cover magnet. . Try to remove you phone from it and try the s pen in the touch area in question. It worked for me with in a leather flip cover. The same for the s note stopping error message.

if you have magnetic casing will get such problems ....
or fake s-pen need to replace with original or better fake quality
My stylus is overly sensitive; so much that I can't write properly. All text is in continuation even when I lift the stylus off for whitespace. I even followed the article on adjusting the sensitivity of the S Pen by removing the click-button cover and adjusting the Potentiometer. However, the note 4 s pen is entierly different as it doesn't have any Potentiometer under the click button. Link to article:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191333
What annoys me most is that I never had this issue before I flew overseas last month. I started experiencing this issue after I came back and it has rendered my s pen useless. Has anyone found a way to adjust Potentiometer on the new S spen yet (it might be located under top cap but i'm not sure how to open it).

I am having this same problem. Did you ever find a fix for it? Thank you!
Yes confirmation of problem
I found the same problem. If you try to draw a square in the S pen test mode you cannot draw a square in the bottom left or right corner. The square will turn into some kind of strange wiggle shape.
I live in Malaysia and went to the official Samsung head office service center and they confirmed this is a problem with all Note 5 models and the lady showed me her own personal Note 5 which had the same problem (actually worse than mine).
The service technicians said they do not know the reason for this problem. But as an electrical engineer I suspect there is some sensors in those areas which cause interference with the S Pen.

Wondering if burn-in might be caused by elevated temperature from added case.

Above you can see detectable (under close scrutiny, ideal conditions) burn-in of my Nexus 6 screen after the following usage:
Only 8 weeks since I bought the phone
I'm reasonably sure that this was not present when I got the device because:
1 - it was "new" from Amazon in factory sealed box (although at a bargain price $299 for 64gb which makes me wonder slightly);
2 - inspected it pretty careully when I was reading about burn in shortly after I got my device;
My screen on time on a typical day is probably 2-5 hours per day over that 8 weeks. (although probably 5-6 hours per day during the very first week!)
Brightness is always in auto with the slider in the middle. And I don't spend a lot of time outside with my screen on.
You can see that's pretty mild usage for a relatively short time. And yet many others are reporting they absolutely can't detect anything whatsoever even after a year of use. . I'm led to believe I'm an outlier.
So what is it that might make me more susceptible than the next guy?
The "easy" answer is device quality. And it might be the right answer, but what if there's something else.
I thought about what it is in my usage (which seems relatively mild) that might possibly cause this.
Then I realized the one thing that struck me odd about this phone. I noticed the screen is warm to my fingers if I use it while charging. I didn't meausre that temperature, but I did download GSAM about a month in and and set a battery temperature alarm at 110F. If I do mild surfing while charging, battery temperature gets up to 110F within a few minutes. I don't let it go above that now, and the screen feels relatively cool compared to how hot I used to let it get. So I'm going to guess that my battery temperature used to routinely get to 115 or 120F while I was using my phone while charging. And although they're not equal, when battery gets hot screen gets hot (again I could feel the heat).
Would heat affect amoled deterioration? We wouldn't think that at first because we normally associate the deterioration with simply being energized brightly over time. But what about being energized causes that deterioration. What if it's the localized heat at the pixel from that brightly energized pixel that causes the damage. In that case, anything else which makes the phone/screen run hotter overall will tend to enhance that local damage mechanism also.
Does my phone run hotter than average? I'm not sure, but since day 1 I've been using this funky case Uniform Supcase Beetle Hybrid Pro.. It's built like an otterbox.... thick and rugged. Up to 1/4" inch thick and surrounds the phone on back, all sides, and even wraps around to cover the front bezel. Imagine that wrapping is an insulator (like a blanket), it helps to keep the heat inside so the phone underneath the blankets is hotter than it otherwise would be.
Is that case why I'm different? I dunno, all I've got is one phone as a data point and a scenario that seems plausible to me.
I'm interested to know if any others have associated elevated temperatures or a thick case with enhanced susceptibility to burn-in . Or if you believe it may be related.
By the way, I have to add my perspective this is a minor and managable thing. I still love this phone. I'm just curious about why...

I can notice burn in on mine (I use no case at all) but its very mild and a "burn-in fixer" like the black and white rolling lines from "Display Tester" makes it go away if ever I'm that bored to do so. Also I only ever notice it on a grey background which honestly is rare to appear where the status and button bars are. On the terms of battery temp I really have to get something going to hit >105F for instance downloading videos using multiple streams to make it go faster which requires stitching the video back together at the end which basically pegs the cpu. General browsing reading some news stories etc stays ~85-90F. Differences in temps between phone for this one in particular can swing wildly due to there being upwards of 17 different CPU "bins" (compared to something like 3-4 on the Nexus 5) with each bin being a 10mV shift in the voltage table for the CPU meaning on CPU can have a 300mhz at 810mV (bin0) and another could have it at 650mV (bin16). For reference mine is a Bin 12 or 690mV on the 300mhz and 1110mV on 2.7ghz.
Both of my devices (had the old one for about 2 months, this guy for about 1) both show burn-in similar to yours already. First was caseless, this one I run with a case. I think that burn-in is just a very widespread issue with this panel and the people claiming to not have any simply don't notice it. Maybe I got 2 bad devices fresh from amazon but, I think that's just how it is. Good news is it really doesn't bother me and I can't see it without a gray background.

That's an interesting theory.
I'm one of those who have absolutely NO detectable burn in, either permanent or latent. I also run a thick case -- Ballistic Maxx.... but... I have (used to, but don't any more) used it very hot. In particular google maps nav used to really make a lot of heat, enough that you could REALLY feel it on the screen, and even through the case. Somewhere along the lines, something changed enough in (firmware? OS? gmaps?) that this no longer gets it to heat up appreciably. Aside from that, I've *never* used it while charging -- kind of difficult to do so with wireless charging. Auto-brightness with the slider at about 1/3. I've owned it for a year now.

That operation *should not* be especially hard on the CPU. Its actually a fairly trivial task. Might be that your software is doing something stupid, like keeping all the different pieces separate until the end when it copies them all in sequence into a target file.
You might want to look into better downloader software. The *correct* way to perform this kind of a job, is to allocate the file in advance, and have each stream write to its correct offset in parallel. No final copy.
You might also save a heap of work if you get rid of userdata crypto. Big problem with the crypto on these when doing that kind of glue-job, is that it will be running decrypt on all the different pieces, and simultaneously running encrypt on the target file.

Well for 360p, 144p, and 720p which are the resolutions you can natively download from youtube as an MP4 do function this way (which if you download these resolutions the software just takes ~5 seconds to finalize the file after downloading). However since youtube is exactly keen on people downloading videos w/o Red (which I do have but I like having 1080p and/or 60fps for gaming style videos which Red does not allow for unfortunately). So those non-standard resolutions have to be downloaded in their little 4096 kb chunks with separate video and audio streams as if it were streaming it from the website itself and stitched together using an actual encoder. A 1080p60 video can put a sizable load ~50-100% i5 5200u laptop processor (depending on the complexity of the scene) while realtime streaming which arguably has more raw power than a N6 (part of the reason youtube still streams AVC codec to android). Now with the phone not having to actually render the video which VP9 codec isn't supported fully either device's GPU so a chunk of the load on the laptop would be rendering. The phone being able to finalize a 1080p60 30 minute video in ~1 minute is why the CPU is 100% while doing so and that just tells me it's using all the power it can to accomplish the task in parallel utilizing all 4 cores.
As for using encryption I've disabled it in the past with varied results (mostly kernel differences) but since I'm sticking with the stock rom and using the monthly ota's I've just left it on to stop any potential accidental encryption which could theoretically lead to data loss and/or the hassle of unecrypting again. In addition to this I see absolutely no gain in speed on the video stitching process which considering it performs the task at a ~15-20 MB/s rate where the limits of the encrypted storage are 200MB/s read and 90 write for sequential reading which is what the encoder is using. Since android 5.1 when the kernel was updated to take advantage of qualcomm's encryption instructions which would otherwise go unused to the OS anyway, encryption doesn't affect this type of workload.
I know this is kinda outside the scope of this thread but I have done some reading on this kinda stuff when I was trying to learn why the app needed an external app when downloading those difference resolutions which most apps wouldn't even do outside of PC software.

I can't even bother to read that since (a) it is out of scope, (b) is from an end-user point of view, and (c) doesn't actually address anything related to what I've explained to you.

Blurry everywhere except in the middle

Hello
I have a really weird problem with my Gear VR. The screen and lenses are completely clean. I cleaned them with proper tools and they are both looking very good. Nothing can be seen on the lenses or the phone screen.
However, when I wear them (and others wear them), the picture starts to get blurry unless you look dead center. The text is barely readable unless I move my head, so the text is in the middle of the screen.
I have adjusted the lenses with the wheel, but it does not work.
I can see something on my lenses (both of them actually). It's like smudged grease/something. It looks like it's in between the lenses (like someone was eating french fries before assembling it), and I don't know how to clean it out.
What on earth do I do?
I have the exact same issue and I'm using the s7 edge. I've had the headset for about 1 week and I still can't enjoy it.
Try adjusting the focus. Due to the difference in distance between lens and centre screen vs edge of screen there is actually "accomodation" ie focusing power of yoir eyes required to see the whole screen. If u r older say over 45 you lose some of this accommodation power and so the range of distance is that your eyes can see reduces if you were classes you should try looking with your glasses online

I said I already did that.
I have the same issue on my gear VR with S7edge. But is it really an issue ? Isn't it normal ?
It's like the lenses are doing their job on their center.
But I won't say it's a problem : you'll get used to it ^^
i have it too. However, I believe this is due to my eye sight. I have astigmatism. I should get contact lenses to use gear vr properly. Still, i hate that shift of the color channels...
I have the same problem so I think it is supposed to be like that!!! you have to look right in the center!!!
I have the very same "issue". It is annoying when I try to watch any 2D movies.

Screen Problem

I've bought an Xperia Z3+ two months ago, recently, I've discovered a certain bright spot on its screen, it's particularly available in white and bright backgrounds, it's less noticeable in black backgrounds, and not at all noticeable in non-solid backgrounds.
I know that it's a hardware issue, but the warranty here is a joke, and I don't want to pay for a new screen for such a small issue.
But on the other hand, once I noticed it, it's all I could see in the mobile, and it removes the whole premium feel in it.
I've manually removed the back cover and there's no issue in the battery that would make it press towards the screen and cause such issue.
I was wondering if there's any manual fix for it? I know that it's a light diffusing layer problem, mostly caused by a certain pressure, but is there a way to make it normal again? A certain pressure in an opposite way, or heat, or suction from behind, etc.
Here's a picture that indicates the issue "It's more visible and annoying in real life"
I have the exact same problem at the very same position as you point. My country does not support officially the Z3+ and so the cost is really high. I searched enough on the internet and i think it is where the vibration is but i cannot confirm it. I also see it all the time because i simply know it is right there. At my case, there are other 2 spots but not seen so easy.
I only hope not to get bigger. I wish i knew what caused this so to be carefull (such as sun exposure or something else - although i am REALLY careful as a person with my mobile phones). I cannot help you and i got really dissapointed after my long search on the web so i will have to live with that. It is hardware problem as i really tried everything to find out that.
Hope someone has any solution. It is not only on our phone but to others too. I hope the post won't get lost after some days!

That's so weird, I thought it was caused by an anonymous fall that I wasn't aware of, the other point is barely noticeable but it's at the top left.
Also, my upper speakers started to produce mixed loud and faint sounds when i play something whike the volume is below 25%.
It's winter, and I usually text near heatrrs, which made me think that the speakers problem was caused by the heater and the screen problem was caused by a particular fall.
Since the warranty is useless I've manually disassembled the phone and there's nothing behind that spot of screen except battery, the vibrator is way below the navkeys, there's no screen on the other side of it, which actually seems to prove that our spots are similar by coincidence, because there's no pressure on the other side except for battery, and I highly doubt yours is faulty, because mine isn't.
My z3+ single sim also has the spot at the same place, but it isnt that noticable since i use auto brightness, really weird, i thought because maybe of accidental high press when the phone was in my pocket.Anyway, I'll switch to XZ premium in december, that sh*t is dope
On the top left corner i have too! So it is not a coincidence. Something is there that you couldn't see when you opened it. I only hope it doens't get worse..
I have it too not only there also in the right bottom corner and a line of 1 centimeters like 1 inch bow in the left upper corner one day was not in there and to the other plaff they appear
Sent from my E6533 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Now that multiple people have it, I started to suspect that there's actually something.
I might open if again when I can't live with it anymore, but for now I'll try to enjoy it as it's new, and hopefully won't get worse.
I have a z3 and z4 that also have these white spots..no way to fix. look up tv lcd problems your not gonna be able to fix....it gonna keep me from buying anymore sonys till they switch to oled.
I have the same problem in the same position and it was happen after a warranty repair.... Sony didn't have noticed it....
