OTA 9.0 Update RET EU - Moto G6 Questions & Answers

Did someone in the RETEU Channel allready have this ?
I dont see it on lolinet.
Also. Is it possible that i flash a RETUS or DTEU image towards my phone ? Do i still get the RET EU updates or does it not matter?
Kind regards and thanks !

You won't be able to flash the boot.img from RETUS or the international version and you won't get OTA updates if you have an unlocked bootloader.
If it's not in the firmware list yet, the update likely isn't out yet. I'm using a German Moto G6 with the ALI_RETAIL_9.0_PPS29.55-24_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC firmware and it works really well.

@HeavyHDx Idid the same, but my device got the reteu PIE upgrade today.

Did you end up getting the update? Sadly the firmware isn't on lolinet yet (the hell kind of name is that anyway?)
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/ali/official/RETEU/
Downgrading to 8.0 and locking the bootloader won't work since even an unlocked bootloader won't allow you to install older versions. I'm not sure if you can actually get OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader.

Does anyone have the OTA package? It's still nowhere to be found and Motorola support can't provide me with the firmware file unfortunately.

They finally added it:

Ok so this is disappointing, I'm still getting "(bootloader) Image signed with key bad key" on boot.img even though this is definitely the right version for my phone (XT1925-5 RETEU). Any ideas? I've tried literally every boot.img that's available from that site and none worked. I want to relock my bootloader to give the phone to someone else who needs updates to work.

You can relock it; it's a little complicated though.

Care to elaborate?

Bad key is normal. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, it just means your bootloader is unlocked. You can also take OTAs with an unlocked bootloader. The bootloader and gpt.bin refusing to flash is also normal. Bootloader's don't allow downgrades, so it keeps the most recent one. You can skip it if that happens. Just flash everything else in order. You can also downgrade. However, if you flash a firmware that's too old, sometimes the radio or touchscreen won't work. If that happens, just flash a more recent firmware. (Ex. Instead of using the first Oreo firmware, use the latest Oreo release.)

And is relocking the bootloader possible at all?

It's possible, but I wouldn't recommend doing it. If one thing about the system is off, it'll lock you into read only mode, which will brick the phone. Not even stock firmware can flash in read only. I'm also uncertain of the exact commands to do it. I'd tell you how if I knew. Motorola has their own set of commands they like to use for it.

[Q] Upgrading to 4.4.4 from 4.4.2. Help.

Hello, I have made some searches but I couldn't find a easy answer.
My phone version es XT1058. I want to have a International version Android system. Not from my carrier.
I have made this on my Moto G, and on several phones. But reading some say I can brick my device.
Any clear instructions? Please. All I want is 4.4.4 ALL STOCK.
Right now my device is ALL STOCK. Locked BT, I tried going to the Moto Website and I was getting a Error loading the page. Weird.
If you are not rooted, and never have been, then your carrier just hasn't pushed out the update yet. There's nothing you can do but wait if that's the case.
And what exactly are you trying to flash? If there's no ota for your device yet....there likely are no sbf files yet either.
Also, flashing an international firmware could cause you all sorts of issues, unless you've read that others on your same device have done it successfully. And what are you calling international firmware?
?

Btw, I'm pretty sure you can't flash other carriers firmware with a locked bootloader.

[Q] Is it possible to roll back to 5.0 from 5.1? XT1096

I'm hating 5.1.. Might be a one off case on my phone but it is simply way too buggy and the battery life is awful compared to what I had going on my rooted 5.0
Like the thread title says, does anyone know if it's doable to get back to 5.0 so I can get back a rooted/stable phone?
Try a cache clearing first, that usually helps with those kind of issues.

If your bootloader is unlocked just flash the system.img and boot.img files from 5.0 or 444 through mfastboot. DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING ELSE

I am also wondering if it is possible to flash back. Are you saying you have flashed system.img and boot.img and were able to? Wouldnt flashing boot.img give you the old bootloader and possibly brick?

Thank you for the clarification. I took the OTA, like a doof. Do you think its possible to flash back by flashing system and boot for 5.0 with fastboot and the rooted 5.0 with mofo? Will 5.0 boot on the new 5.1 bootloader and partition table?

You definitely cannot flash using mofo if you upgraded your bootloader to 5.1. Your copy of Mofo was specific not only for your device, but for 4.4.4 and 5.0 or 5.0.2 bootloader depending on your device. I put all of that in the noob guide.

What verison of the bootloader are you running - 60.11, 60.14 or 60.16?
I am on 60.16, and so bummed. I am guessing it is safe to try with normal fastboot to just try flashing system.img from stock 5.0 worst that could happen is I get a failed message or have to reflash 5.1 stock. I wonder if fastboot will allow me to flash system.img of an older version. I'm willing to take one for the team if someone can confirm the safest route to try, obviously not flashing gpt motoboot or anything else I read.

MoFo won't work on the 60.16 or 60.14 bootloaders. With 60.14, which was the 5.1 soak test bootloader, people have reported being able to downgrade back to 60.11 bootloader, but not with the 60.16.

IME you can flash stock, signed earlier system.img using mfastboot no problem. But you may need to flash the 5.0 boot.img and radios, too. If you have the system in sparsechunks you can use regular fastboot.

I had started a thread about plans for the update back in May to discuss these issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/xt0196-rooted-mofo-plans-5-1-update-t3107088
Is it a safe strategy to root by rolling back everything except the partition table (gpt.bin) and bootloader(motoboot.bin) from a stock 5.0 image via fastboot like normal, and then use kingroot to root 5.0, install sunshine and bob is your uncle? I have been unsuccessful at rooting 5.1 even after trying the UAF vulnerabilities recently. Will 5.0 boot on the 60.16 bootloader?

Chance to Android One

Hello
I have a question. Is it possible migrate to Android One? I read there is Moto X4 Fi version using Android One, so I don't if it is possible to change the rom on "normal" version
Is it a good idea? Yes, why? No way? XD
Thank you
It's possible without unlocking bootloader, I did that on my Moto X4 XT1900-6.

I used this image: PAYTON_FI_OPW27.57-25-2_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
Download this file and extract both image and adb to the same folder.
Install Motorola Device Manager.
Now, boot your phone into fastboot, just turn it off and press volume down + power, connect the USB cable and execute the script.
The image are already on Oreo, the script contains instructions to erase userdata, even so, do a hard reset after flashing the phone.
Worked fine here, but do at your own risk.

Thanks for your contribution.
I just flashed this on my European XT1900-7 and it is working ok.
Although, unfortunately IMS-Services such as VoLTE and VoWiFi (WiFi-Calling) are disabled in this Project-Fi ROM
They are unchecked when opening test menu by typing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer.
Anybody has a clue on how to get this working?

Hi, I didn't received any ota updates, I think it's because of the software channel, mine is retbr.

Well, I tried it on a VTR-L29C432B180 (downloading the 3 files for Oreo, renaming them, using the update.bat with unlocked bootloader and all the steps) and ended up in eRecovery. Then I could restart the phone and it booted up, but it was the same version (B180).

Did you let eRecovery do its job? HWOTA pushes the three update files to the phone, installs eRecovery and then provide commands, which tell eRecovery to install these three update files. So, if you did everything right, then eRecovery will install the update, don't cancel it.
If you need further help, contact me via PM.
When we found a solution we'll post it here for the public but for working on a problem it's better to chat directly.
@madoxx77 If your bootloader is locked, HWOTA will ask you to unlock it with the unlock code. Without unlocked bootloader it's not possible.

Nevertheless. I did it with the script. I'll take a look at it.. question is, where'd you get it and do they have a g965u version?
To add, looks like a regular combo firm, they have OEM unlock option in settings and adb debuggable and permissive
Im not sure if they have a 965u version. I found it while trying to find an engineer kernel.
Any idea what the security patch is? I'm on May with the version 2 bootloader so I dunno if I can flash this but if it's the newer bootloader I could do some tests.
So I reset my s9 and I get this when trying to flash the combination ROM.
Any suggestions or is this due to the bootloader being V2
