Hello, I have made some searches but I couldn't find a easy answer.
My phone version es XT1058. I want to have a International version Android system. Not from my carrier.
I have made this on my Moto G, and on several phones. But reading some say I can brick my device.
Any clear instructions? Please. All I want is 4.4.4 ALL STOCK.
Right now my device is ALL STOCK. Locked BT, I tried going to the Moto Website and I was getting a Error loading the page. Weird.
If you are not rooted, and never have been, then your carrier just hasn't pushed out the update yet. There's nothing you can do but wait if that's the case.
And what exactly are you trying to flash? If there's no ota for your device yet....there likely are no sbf files yet either.
Also, flashing an international firmware could cause you all sorts of issues, unless you've read that others on your same device have done it successfully. And what are you calling international firmware?
?

Btw, I'm pretty sure you can't flash other carriers firmware with a locked bootloader.

Today i downgraded my moto x to 4.2.2 because i had rooted it and wanted to return it to stock and the ROM for my country wasnt abailable on kit kat, now i tried to upload it again to kit kat and the update sent me to fastboot where i got an error message which said the following
"downgraded security version update gpt_main version failed
Failed to hab check for gpt_backup: 0x35
CId Read Failure
Invalid CID status 0x69
CustomerID error. Contact Dealer: 0xdead
No SP partition found"
Anybody knows what this means? any help is apreciated!
Another thing is that my bootloader shows up like locked which is weird because its actually unlocked
What were you on before you downgraded?

This sounds like the infamous downgrade brick?
I downgraded with RSD erasing the "gpt" and "motoboot" lines from the default_flash so i could do it, later on i downloaded de 4.4.2 directly from the phone and once it finished downloading it started updating and sent me directly to fastboot showing this error.
the firmware that i downloaded to do the downgrade was this "Blur_Version.139.12.35.ghost_row.Personal.en. AR"
The bootloader is unlocked and showing locked .
unfourtunatly i couldnt find a 4.4 firmware for my carrier so i wasnt able to find a kit kat firmware to flash and see if i could get it running, i tried with another firmware from the region where i live and flashed it but couldnt make it work with RSD nor fastboot.
Yup, been many debates on here about whether its safe to downgrade from 4.4.2 or not.....and I've read enough here now that I simply advise not to. Period. Unless you can afford a replacement easily....in case bad things happen.
Many disagree, but I stand by this advice.
Where are you at currently?? You can beat up or not? Have you tried reflashing 4.4.2? Or what have you tried?
Anyway, before doing anything else...I suggest reading the thread about how to unbrick. I don't know the link off hand....but it may help.
Good luck. ?

Thanks to everyone for all the help given, luckily because of the bootloader showing as "LOCKED" and the horrible tecnical service( i hope thats how its written) here in Argentina i was able to make my moto x pass with the warranty and hopefully recieve a new moto x. Again thanks for all the support.
Hi All,
I'm wanting to root my Z1, problem is i'm a bit worried as I've not rooted a sony before and it appears a bit more involved than HTC / Nexus etc.
I'm on 4.4.2, bootloader is locked, phone is sim unlocked.
Can anyone recommend the best available process for this as I've seen a few possible solutions and just dont want to brick my phone !!!!
Many thanks
There is no any problem if you just follow the instructions on the specific thread, which I suppose you know which one, to root your 4.4.2 KK .757 FW.
Install DualRecovery, Flash Pre-Rooted KK by NUT. Done.
..and don't be paranoid......just flash it...lol..
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:44 PM ----------
..I forgot...before anything you have to flash via Flashtool the .534 FW then install Dual recovery and Pre-Rooted...Sorry ..my bad...sometime I get lost...too many things...lol...
Hi,
I've been on 4.4.2 on my Sprint Moto X for quite a while now.
I'm rooted and unlocked with a custom recovery.
I've been holding off on the 4.4.4 update but recently it started nagging me to update.
I read that it has a lot of bugfixes so I figured why now.
I hit install update but it can't because of the custom recovery.
What is the process of upgrading to 4.4.4 if I'm on a custom recovery?
I searched for a tutorial but couldn't find one.
If someone could post a link that would be really helpful.
Thanks
You have 3 choices.
1. Flash stock recovery only, and as long as you've changed nothing else in the system, you should be able to take the ota.
2. Use fastboot/mfastboot and flash 4.4.4...if the sbf files are out.
3. Use RSDLite and flash 4.4.4...again, if the files are out.
This guide, under returning to stock covers all this. ☺

As far as this site goes, 4.4.4 Sbf isn't out yet.

Not sure if there are other sources.
If not, option 1 is your only choice right now.
Well, last year i've got a second hand s5, (im not from usa so i cannot update it using the OTA) i've updated it following a turorial in here (cant remember which one), to update to 4.4.2 and root it, after a factory reset i did later, couldn't root it anymore, idk why, now i want to update it to marshmallow, so i came back here to ask how can i do it, and following which tutorial, since i dont want to end with a brick, btw it is safe to do it, there's any improvement doing this, etc, thanks for any advice given

Do i need to root first in order to install the new update?
Nope just install the update with odin
---------- Post added at 11:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:52 PM ----------
Also only Android 5.0 and 4.4 are able to be rooted now
I got the version "G900AUCU2ANG3" i'll just go forward to the update G900AUCS4DQD1 (6.0.1)?, there's no risk of brick, or imei problems if i update? does it worth it?
No risk yeah it's worth it if you don't care about root
Which tutorial do i follow to install it with odin?
Did someone in the RETEU Channel allready have this ?
I dont see it on lolinet.
Also. Is it possible that i flash a RETUS or DTEU image towards my phone ? Do i still get the RET EU updates or does it not matter?
Kind regards and thanks !
You won't be able to flash the boot.img from RETUS or the international version and you won't get OTA updates if you have an unlocked bootloader.
If it's not in the firmware list yet, the update likely isn't out yet. I'm using a German Moto G6 with the ALI_RETAIL_9.0_PPS29.55-24_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC firmware and it works really well.
@HeavyHDx Idid the same, but my device got the reteu PIE upgrade today.

Did you end up getting the update? Sadly the firmware isn't on lolinet yet (the hell kind of name is that anyway?)

Downgrading to 8.0 and locking the bootloader won't work since even an unlocked bootloader won't allow you to install older versions. I'm not sure if you can actually get OTA updates with an unlocked bootloader.
Does anyone have the OTA package? It's still nowhere to be found and Motorola support can't provide me with the firmware file unfortunately.

Ok so this is disappointing, I'm still getting "(bootloader) Image signed with key bad key" on boot.img even though this is definitely the right version for my phone (XT1925-5 RETEU). Any ideas? I've tried literally every boot.img that's available from that site and none worked. I want to relock my bootloader to give the phone to someone else who needs updates to work.

You can relock it; it's a little complicated though.
Care to elaborate?

Bad key is normal. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, it just means your bootloader is unlocked. You can also take OTAs with an unlocked bootloader. The bootloader and gpt.bin refusing to flash is also normal. Bootloader's don't allow downgrades, so it keeps the most recent one. You can skip it if that happens. Just flash everything else in order. You can also downgrade. However, if you flash a firmware that's too old, sometimes the radio or touchscreen won't work. If that happens, just flash a more recent firmware. (Ex. Instead of using the first Oreo firmware, use the latest Oreo release.)
And is relocking the bootloader possible at all?

It's possible, but I wouldn't recommend doing it. If one thing about the system is off, it'll lock you into read only mode, which will brick the phone. Not even stock firmware can flash in read only. I'm also uncertain of the exact commands to do it. I'd tell you how if I knew. Motorola has their own set of commands they like to use for it.
