Moto e5 go - XT1921-8 - Verizon (VZW Channel) | Cross-firmware? - Moto E5 Questions & Answers

Hello friends!
I just bought one of these (Moto e5 go - XT1921-8 - Verizon) Unlocked, using it on Google Fi. It works well and all, but I'm a tinkerer.. to the point I'd rather break-it-in.. or break it
I haven't seen any threads related to this specific variant so I was wondering the possibility of primarily rooting it, then the possibility of getting one of the AOSP roms tight fit in.. I.E. I'm worried about firmware mismatches causing issues? I'd like to at least de-bloat the VZW channels, but ultimately end with a fresh standard AOSP I can work from.
Does anyone have any experience or helpful info?
*I did find the Baseband variant is set as the JAMES_GO_VZW_CUST.. So is this a JAMES variant?

How did you unlock it?

[Q] Best SGT variant to buy right now?

Hello all, first time poster, long time lurker. I'm interested in picking up a second-hand Galaxy Tab off of eBay/Craigslist or a refurb from one of the carriers, and I'm wondering what the best carrier variant is, especially for rooting/custom ROMs and such.
I'd like to have the freedom to hack and play with my SGT as much as possible, and I've seen some threads where the GSM model (AT&T/T-Mo) would be much better than a VZW/Sprint variant. I'm with AT&T for my current phone (iPhone 4), and I'm leaning towards the GSM (AT&T) flavor, so I can swap SIM cards at will. (With a homemade mini-SIM to regular-SIM adapter).
What are your thoughts & recommendations?

Motorola Moto X 2014 (XT1096) in Central Europe - will be ok?

I want to buy a Moto X 2014 (32GB). But I live in Poland and this phone isn't available in my country. I'm thinking about buying XT1096 Verizon, but I have a few questions:
1. I read that this version haven't block card SIM. It's a true? Can I use my own card SIM (from Poland)?
2. I want to buy phone from this seller . If I choose teak wood or black wood, I will have this ulgy inscription "Verizon" or not? Yes, I know, this is a question for seller, but eBay is a black magic for me and I don't know how do this...
3. Third matter - bootloader. I read in this page - - I will be able to unlock bootloader. Also I read about problems with VoLTE. Phone from link is a VoLTE, or normal version? There will be problems?
4. ROM. I want to have Android 6. But I'm looking AOSP or another pure ROM, because I want to install Xposed. What will be the best?
And what I should know about this version in my situation?
I use it in Europe either and everything works fine.
You can unlock the bootloader and then flash the stock 6.0 of xt1095 (the pure edition), it is very good rom and I used it for half a year.
Just recently I flashed nexus experience which feels much better for me.
You can have xposed on both.
About the ugly 'verizon' inscription , yes you will have it no matter what. This is xt1096, Verizon's version.
Remember that custom ROMs don't support Moto apps such as Display and Voice, which are among this phone's main selling points and do not have any real alternatives
@OrenGazala and @Flipz77, Yours answers are very helpful. Big thanks! I forgot paste link to eBay seller: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Verizon-Unl...hash=item3602a50d3a:m:m5feJrL_YfuqhdKODPEUR0g.
On the picture phone don't have this ugly inscription so I ask. And is this phone 'normal' or VoLTE?
Have you looked at the XT1095 Pure Edition? They are factory unlocked and do not have any carrier branding such as Verizon. I bought mine used on Swappa for a lot less than that link on eBay.
I'm looking at buying another one for a friend of mine who lives in the UK and I'm trying to make sure that the LTE bands will be compatible with his network. It seems that Europe mostly uses 800, 1800 and 2600. The XT1096 has 1800 and 2600 while the XT1095 has only 1800, however my friends network (Three) uses only 1800 and 800 so the lack of 2600 isn't an issue for him, however the lack of 800 could be. But I'm not sure and I don't know how to find out.
Might want to look into what bands your local operator uses in Poland.

Android One: Project Fi version vs Regular Motorola version

Does both the Project Fi version and Regular Motorola version that is up for preorder tomorrow belong in the Android One Family? Or are they going to be on different update paths again?
They do not use the same software.
The regular Moto X4 has a bunch of Motorola software, and includes Alexa. The Android One Moto X4 will be a strictly 100% google software phone, and will include the google assistant. There may be other differences, but we're not sure yet. The Regular X4 touts features like "professional mode" on their camera, and a bluetooth system that will connect to and stream audio to 4 speakers at the same time. It's not sure if these features will make it to the Project One X4. The Project One X4 should get updates faster, and is promised to get Oreo before the end of the year. The Reg X4 will get Oreo as well, but we're not sure when.
Since it's the same hardware on both, and since the Android One X4 has been promised to upgrade to Android P, I would imagine the Regular X4 would also get P, but don't quote me on that.
Note: upgrading to Oreo is also required to unlock the Bluetooth 5.0 features. Android 7.1 only allows up to 4.2.
I received my Project Fi version this afternoon and it still has a surprising amount of Moto software features. It is not 100% pure Android.
Both Moto Actions and Moto Display are present.
Also the Camera app/experience is fully Moto.
No Alexa of course. And the Multi device Bluetooth control doesn't seem to be here.

Does this mean that in order to root, we will need to wait for a Fi-specific recovery image from twrp or cwm?

I'm honestly not sure, but I doubt it... If a custom recovery is ported/developed for the X4 it will most likely work on any X4 that is bootloader unlockable. I don't think the software channel will matter.

I just figured out there are more than one variant of Moto X4, I found out Android One version of Moto X4 has bluetooth 4.2 while original version of Moto X4 has Bluetooth 5.0.
I asked Project Fi support team any Moto X4 will work on Project Fi so I'm thinking to order unlocked version to use the hardware 100% for same price.

That is only partially true.
Hardware:
There are multiple hardware variants of the X4. Most of them have to do with antenna frequencies for different countries, and dual-sim options. From what I can tell, most American phones are the same hardware: "XT1900-1". There are multiple software variants, depending on who you bought it from (retail, Amazon, Fi, etc), but it's all the same hardware.
Bluetooth:
All Moto X4 have a Bluetooth 5.0 chip in them. Android Nougat only supports Bluetooth 4.2, so we're software limited to 4.2 for now. This is true for ALL software versions of the phone. It's a driver issue, and not something that Motorola can bypass. Android Oreo supports Bluetooth 5.0, so we will "unlock" 5.0 support when we get the 8.0 upgrade. Again, this is true for all software variants, not just Fi or retail.

no problem bro. anyway thanks for replying. btw my intention was to find out if I could flash a stock image we have, and.this doesnt belong in this thread, idk why I posted here hehehe
It seems the Android one version does not support one button nav or Moto key. Other Moto actions like chop for flashlight and twist for camera are there however. Not sure if this is just an oversight on motorolas part or not.

I have a Fi Moto X4 and the chop to turn the camera on works, however have not looked up what your referring to about the one button nav or Moto key is.

Moto Voice on Android One version?
I'm seriously considering coming back to Motorola with the Moto X4. The Moto Voice app really has the best in-car experience with Ford Sync systems. However, what I don't like with Moto is the slow update schedule.
So, I thought I found the perfect phone when they announced the Moto X4 Android One version, except that it doesn't look like Moto Voice is available on that version. Has anyone tried to install Moto Voice on the Android One version? Does anyone know what would prevent installing this app?
Thanks much!
Can I use the AndroidOne on T-Mobile?

Need a new phone, looking note 8 or gs 8/8+, unlocked vs carrier?

I'm currently using a nexus 6p on verizon and its getting long in the tooth. I want to buy an unlocked note8 directly from samsung or bestbuy, but not sure what I would give up vs buying one from verizon. Would I just pop a sim in, have them register my new imei and off I go?
I saw a mega thread thats like 50+ pages deep in the howto section about flashing between carriers, would I need to flash a certain file to the phone to get it to work properly on verizon? The unlocked seems to support all the bands. I just want the flexibility to use whatever carrier, so if I decide to switch my note over to TMO or cricket I won't have any concerns. Also might not get a note, but it looks nice, has newer software, was more recently released.
How is samsung with releasing OS updates? Would it be reasonable to expect android 8 on the note 8?

SM-N9600 on T-mobile

Hello,
I have been digging through the forums and google trying to find a solid answer but getting a bit of misinformation so, I have a couple questions.
I would like to get the Note 9 but am very hesitant to go with a carrier or US version, given they are locked down. I have not owned a phone, since starting on android with the G2, that didn't have root and some sort of mod support.
With that said I am considering the n9600 for tmobile and hoping someone can confirm whether it has band 66 or not.
Also, I keep reading that aggregation is an issue, slowing lte speeds vs carrier specific phones. I have read a couple forums saying there is a possible solution but they seem to kind of dead end with many people saying they don't notice a difference.
And finally, for Tmobile, has anyone had better luck with the Exynos version vs the n9600 w/ snapdragon? Is there a difference as far as connectivity or the ability to force specific firmware/software?
Thanks.
You've answered your questions in your post. It will work but not everything and not all bands.
