I purchased this phone as new. The warranty sticker was still in place. However the back of the phone does not contain any serial or IMEI number. Does this mean the phone is a refurb?

Hi everyone,
maybe you could help me
I bought Samsung Galaxy Note from Ebay, I noticed that IMEI on the box and on the sticker behind the battery is not the same as on the phone itself.
The IMEI on the sticker behind the battery is the same as on the box.But if i check
*#06# on the phone it is not the same IMEI.
???????
The guy I bought it from, claimed the phone was brand new.

It could be a innocent mistake, say the seller had checked the devices and mistakenly replaced them in the wrong box.
The ultimate question is how much you paid for it. If it was really cheap, then you have to ask the question why?
Maybe its a refurbished one, and somehow he has managed to get some boxes.
Me being the suspicious type, i would return it!
But hey, i could be wrong

It wasnt that cheap.
if device was mistakenly replaced in the wrong box that really would not be the issue for me.
The problem is,
Sticker with IMEI under the battery is same as on the box, but not the same as on the phone if i put *#06#.

It sounds fishy to me. Someone could have changed the phone imei

*Replaced nv_data.bin maybe. I dont know whether its possible.
*Does the *#06# IMEI begin with 35 ?
It might be the default Samsung IMEI showing up as a result of a corrupt efs partition.

I would complain, return and buy from somebody else.
All three numbers should match on a brand new phone. If the sticker doesn't match the read out, then somebody messed with low level software or hardware, e.g. taking the case from one phone and sticking into it the hardware from another...
Just my two cents..

Defiantly return it. I cant think of any legitimate reason for it to be like that.
Refurbished unit? Maybe!!!
That means someone has been doing something with this phone for sure.
Anyone could tell me where I should be looking for warranty void sticker on my Galaxy Note as I suspect that one is missing too.
Most likely you won't find that sticker - it's often inside the phone, between two parts of the phone case. Not knowing what you are doing when taring apart, you just rip the sticker in two pieces and Samsung techs will notice.
Besides - Return it. ^^ (could be stolen)

Hello.. please I have the same issue with Infinix smart 5, the wired things is that when I use IMEI gotten through *#06# to verify the phone on IMEI.Info. the results show empty. But the imel on the stickers on battery cover bring out full results of the phone. Am really confused
Hello
I just realized that after I got my N7000 back from repair the IMEI number doesn't match the number on the sticker underneath the battery anymore
The reason I even noticed it was because when trying to install Cerberus on my phone it was already registered!! I suspect that my phone was repaired using a used motherboard (maybe from a phone with a broken screen or something).
So the question is... how can I change the IMEI number to match the number on the sticker??
Brgds... /Tubgirl
They replace it with used motherboard?? Dude you should go back and tell them to replace your device with the new note or you will sue them using used product for repairing!!

I agree that's what I should do. I'm just hesitant to be away from my Note several weeks AGAIN!!
Brgds... /Tubgirl
It's either you got a refurb unit (with the original sticker pasted back on it) or Sammy repair's center in your region has some serious f*cked repairing service.
It's not right first of all that you get a handed down used motherboard... you need to demand your consumer rights to those repair guys or talk to their supervisor on how you have been inefficiently given a poor service.
I think IMEI is hard coded on the phone itself.. There is no way you can ever reverse or change it.
IMEI can be changed, but it's against xda rules (at least it was last time I asked) to talk about it. Apparently something about the obvious criminal application etc. There are forums that offer tools for that kind of thing, but they stay off the radar; you'll need to ask around.
Why don't you just peel the sticker off?

I would only expect a refurbished phone from someone like Asurion (via insurance claim). It's most definitely used, as you've already confirmed.
now i cant to anything hope its at least only used not a fake chinese one.

You can make a PayPal claim, and show proof with screenshots, and how it's different from advertised listing. Many countries are covered by Consumer Protection.
Check the IMEI (in any online website) it will show the device details.
Hello XDA members and Note 8 Owners,
I recently had to take my note 8 to service center as it was making crackling noise at highest volume during calls.
They told me that motherboard will be changed and IMEI will be rewritten.
Does this mean old IMEI will be rewritten or IMEI will be completely changed?
Thanks for help in advanced.

If everything goes OK, you'll get your ORIGINAL IMEI on your new motherboard (I'd the same with my S7Edge)

None of the IMEI nor the S/N will be changed.
They will rewrite the original IMEI for you.
BTW, you can use this app to check if the motherboard has been changed or remain the same:
Phone INFO ★Samsung★: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
In the app, open the left-side menu and select 'Refurbishment Check' menu.

Refurbish model?
Hi guys recently I have sent my Galaxy A9 Pro to service centre for replacement of the motherboard and is underwarranty so is FOC. By using Phone Info I had my refurbish checked and the report is "It looks like your phone is a refurbished one".
My question is should I ask for refund? OR the refurbished is due to the recent replacement of the motherboard?
Thanks guys...

The software probably uses something to check components on motherboard to other items to give it's result of if the device is refurbished or not. Not sure why you'd think you are entitled to a new phone or refund if you already accepted the repair. You should have returned to he phone to the shop where you bought it if you wanted a refund.

I had called samsung the guy said "U should not trust 3rd party apps" they said by providing IMEI to them they can 100% confirm that it's an original instead of refurbished set. But the PHONE INFO said is refurbished. What should I do guy?
If I bring back to the shop will they convince me the same as samsung for not trusting the 3rd party apps?
Is there any other way to verify if my set is original or refurbished?
Thanks!

Your parts are original Samsung parts. That's not what refurbished means. Technically your phone IS refurbished.
And you already called Samsung and got your answer. What can we tell you that Samsung hasn't already?

accept that it's "refurbished" and move on.
refurbished doesn't mean fake, counterfeit, or inferior.
refurbished effectively means it has been repaired, it says absolutely nothing about wether the parts are brand new original parts, used parts, or parts from a different manufacturer.
the only way your phone wouldn't be "refurbished" after such a "repair" is if they chucked the phone in a bin and unwrapped a brand new one to send back to you.
as for why some repaired phones don't show up as refurbished, the apps that check for this need to make guesses based on serial and model numbers recorded in different places, and it's easy for the developer to make mistakes or for the replaced part not having a serial number visible in software.

The phone box should have a Samsung seal tape on it. Before you open it, you can check if that has been tampered with.
