Hey guys, I am new to the forum, but I wanted to share my experience with the 7 pro. I won't talk about the display, it really is that amazing. The first day I had a couple of not so great experiences with two things : camera and gestures. The telephoto camera was really bad, I couldn't take even one normal portrait photo with it. The focus was off, everything was blurry, just plain awful. The standard camera was good and the wide also nice. For some reason I couldn't get my mobile network to work. Then I installed the update from oneplus and both the camera and network issue were fixed like magic
About the gestures: I decided to use the gestures from oxygen os, not the standard or the Google ones, because the screen really is suited for them. But as I've never used them before I had a hard time getting adjusted. Main problem was the motion to see all apps. It took me a good few hours only doing that until I could do it somewhat successfully.
Battery : I'm not a heavy user and my last phone was the LG g6 so I had to learn all the tricks to a good battery life  My setup is: auto sync is off, dark mode on, brightness around 40%, 90hz auto switch. Half of the time it's on mobile network the other on Wi-Fi. I don't use nfc, Bluetooth maybe an hour a day, location also very rarely on. The SOT I get is around 8 and a half hours. I do play games for 2-3 hours daily.
If you have questions or suggestions to improve my experience please share :fingers-crossed.

Completely agree! I had pretty much decided to return it earlier due to the camera, however, I tried a few gcams this afternoon to see if there was any potential and there was some big improvements.
I'm hoping a dedicated gcam port will save this phone, I've got two weeks to decide on whether to return it. It's a shame that at £700 we are relying on the community to save a "Pro" phone.
Relax guys. There was the same issue on the oneplus 6 when I got it. A few software updates later and the camera was decent. (Not impressive though but that's just the camera hardware and lens built into it).
I'm not worried at all, it will get better and gcam helps as well. There are better ports incoming for sure.

My camera issues were mostly fixed with an update. Does anyone have issues with games freezing?

I remember during the Idol 3 launch that there were issues initially (DTTW not working, snapchat bugs, etc) that were addressed in subsequent updates. These things were swept under the rug for reviewers but for people who actually owned the phone, they were able to benefit.
Currently my main concern is the camera and I was curious if anyone has heard any news on Alcatel working to try and improve the OIS or low-light capabilities via software (if that is even possible).

I don't have this exactly device, but I have the twin brother (Vodafone Smart Platinum 7) and I wrote to a Vodafone customer manager about this.
They told me they will talk with the people in the software department, and maybe in a future they can improve a little the software, but the lack of hardware can't be fixed with software.
My main complain was that the photos most of the time are blurry when trying to see the details, and that we have no stabilization for 60fps and 2K-4K.

Thanks. I've heard good things about the Vodafone version. I currently have the Idol 3, and coming from the Nexus 4 before that, it was a big improvement in terms of photo quality. I've been using my Idol 3 for photos a lot recently and although it is great for well-lit, non-moving objects, I have become more aware of the lower quality pics in low-light and blurry pics in general when there is slight movement. I think the Idol 4S is a step up in terms of quality but still leaves something to be desired overall.
Recently I ended up getting a reasonably-priced digital camera which takes great photos. It really illustrated how good a camera can be. I might just get the Idol 4S and carry my digital camera with me for special occasions.
Updated yesterday to version 010 02 with the august security patches with the Mobile Upgrade Q desktop programm. Camera seems better imo opinion (at least with sufficient light!) and overall performance seems faster and snappier then before. Caution: upgrading with Q will flash the whole rom and wipes the device!. Idol 4S 6070K Netherlands. Realy love the devices`s performance and especialy the great speakers
Saw a video review with a blind comparison to the S7 for photos/videos.
Lowlight is pretty meh and video bounces around a lot, but the well lit areas really give the S7 a run for it's money.
It sounds like the key to using the camera is A) Good lighting and B)Keep a steady hand

Pretty much is about the steady hand, because with this you can make nice pictures.
I attach some pictures I made with the phone.

As long as you keep it steady, it indeed does a good job.
HRD is really nice for low lights situations, but again, you must be really steady when taking the pictures.
Regarding the manual mode, is also nice to play with it and you can get some nice results as well.
Manual mode is great for macro and long exposure shots. My friend who works for TCL told me an update to Android Nougat is already under development but no release date is known as of yet.

TBH when my Idol 3 updated to MM, my cell reception went wonky so I am in no rush.
Hello dear XDA friends, Although I don't post a lot I still love you all .
Anyway, I am really tempted to get a Mate S ($/€319) after my LG G3's screen basically broke in half, the battery exploded and the touchscreen only working 10%, it's basically useless right now and I need a phone to replace it for a while until I decide what's going to be my ''real'' phone (I hate Apple but the 7+ Camera is amazing but then again maybe note 7 refurbs will be cheap.) So yeah I need to bridge the gap and I want to gift it to a relative when I'm done with it.
So is it worth it for 300 bucks?
Hi,
I have the phone since 3 months now (rooted and latest rom version) and it is in overall very good but the battery. Screen is very great but although there are a good device manager, it doesn't stand a full day without reloading.
Also you can see from the different posts that this phone is not very popular among Android's cooks. So not a lot of answers and not a lot of tricks and tweaks. I regret the time I had a Nexus 4 where community was very active. Anyway, as I am really focused on battery life, this is the real flaw of this phone for me. But I guess there are not many phones that could do better.

What's the longest screen on time you got?
It actually depends what you gonna do with this phone.
I own it for last 8 months never really felt need for better battery during normal usage.
My typical usage with all the time brightness at auto and slider at max ( which on huawei even when inside usually means 80-90% brightness ) and outside always even when is dim day is 100% or boosted screen mode ends up with average 4:30-5h SOT with around 18-20hrs on battery. This is with about 60% wifi 40% 3g.
This includes bunch of social apps, youtube , music, calls, sms, light gaming of around 1hr per day.
The great thing about this phone is its soc and screen, the to S-amoled it never gets hot thus for it doesn't drain battery life fast like snapdragon devices.
Biggest fall of this soc is its GPU it isn't as good for heavy games like s810 devices for example.
If you're not a gamer I highly suggest this phone. If you have more money I suggest p9+, its a beast in all regards.
Here my current battery life stats

As you can see, I charged my phone and unplugged at 00.14. Wi-Fi off and no mobile data, no screen on. No apps running apart from home launcher and myProfile. All others are greenified. So in around 8h sleep it decreased by 20%.
I tried many tricks and I consider myself skilful for this (my LG G2 could last 3 days) but cannot do better with this one. The ROM is not good enough yet and update frequency is not good.
Got the LG G4 so this one can be closed
Been using my 3T for two days now. Haven't sold my 6S, though the plan was to use the funds I would've got from that to cover the cost of the 3T.
The reason being is I'm having a few doubts. I'm no stranger to Android, as the majority of my smartphone's have been Android, and the first iPhone I bought was in January 2015.
I don't particularly miss any of the iOS features such as iMessage and Facetime, as WhatsApp pretty much covers those, 3D Touch was quite handy but this has gestures instead.
My issues are, I guess, the camera; OIS, mic quality, security, Android Pay.
Camera wise, on paper the 3T is better than my 6S without OIS, but so far it struggles to take pictures without some form of motion blur. Recording, the mic isn't as good either. Also read reports of the camera hump falling off, at least on the 3.
I'm also a little concerned with security, I've had way more pop ups / apps being forced on me in the past two days, than I would have using the iPhone for the same amount of time. Though I heard Nougat is as secure as iOS now?
Oh and I can't get Android Pay to work. Well I managed it by accident, held the phone on the same way as I normally works with the 6S, and nothing. Ended up waving the phone around whilst unlocked until it registered.
Not sure if am looking for faults because Apple have sold their products and OS on me, or if the 6S just is a better device...
... though it can't compete with the 3T's screen, Dash charge, fast fingerprint scanner and battery life.
Miss my Autodesk Graphic app though
Need convincing I've made the right choice, thanks guys
I got my OP3T a couple days ago and I love it.
First off, there is no such thing as a perfect phone, but this one comes pretty close.
Camera - From my testing with the camer on my phone, I think that the main camera is VERY sensitive to motion. YOu need a steady hand to take good pics. However the front facing camera is really good and pics don't come out distorted at all. I think reall all you need is to find a camera app with good stabilization and you will be good.
Microphone - don't really use this, but I don't think it's a problem. I know phone quality is really good and clear for me. There are apps and mods that can probably help out with tweaking the mic
Security - just like anything, with time anything can be hacked. Keep in mind that oneplus 3T is a dev friendly phone. Most other phone manufacturers cringe on letting users modify their phone. Certainly Apple is very much opposed to that as well. Now your popup issue might be something else. There are a lot of popup blockers you can use. I use and recommend Ad Guard pro. It blocks ads and popups in browsers and in apps.
Here is what it comes down to... Do you use your phone more for pictures and video or pretty much anything else? If it's the later, than honestly you can go wrong with the OP3T. If you use it for photos and videos more, then maybe you can research some apps to see if there is anything out there that is worth using to make better pics.
It's funny because I bought a 64gb iPhone 6S plus today to resell and honestly it feels ancient compared to my 3t .
I have natural steady hands..

Not the best photo obviously lol but it can take great pictures. Any good photographer can take a picture with anything and make it look amazing, camera is sensitive to motion but software update can fix this. No problems with video it looks and sounds very clear not o mention videos are very steady.

The NFC sensor is behind the camera. I used it for a purchase 2 hours ago and it was fine. You just have to hold the camera up to the sensor for a few seconds and it should work. You don't even need to open the app. Just need to unlock your phone and have NFC on.
Hope you keep the device
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the RED Hydrogen One, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the RED Hydrogen One is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pretty much everyone in the Houdini program (pre-release testing) appear to just **love** their device.
I've had mine for about two weeks now and have grown to absolutely love it! While the industrial design may be a stark departure for some, the scalloped edges make me feel really comfortable not using a case. Its really clear that this device is well built.
It runs a fairly stock version of Android 8.1, and I receive OS updates every few days to address bug fixes. Funny thing is, I haven't witnessed any bugs myself. While it's not an SD845, most users won't be able to tell the difference at all. This thing FLIES! I think until the next snapdragon SOC shrinks down a bit to single digit nm size, the performance gains won't be significant enough for users to really be measurably different in real world tasks.
Battery life is bonkers! I'm constantly demoing the device at full brightness for several hours a day, and on those days will end with about 40% life left. On my "off days" of regular use, I will typically only get to about 60-65% by the end of the night. I'm quite comfortable saying this will last some users two days.
The camera is fantastic as well! I looked it up in AIDA and it doesn't say who makes them, but the specs say 12.3 MP and 1.55 μm cell size. There's a few devices on the market with the exact same specs and both are praised for their camera prowess. I think what makes this one so awesome is the spacing between the cameras, which makes for the awesome 4-View holographic effect but also creates an awesome depth of field mode. I'll see if I can post some samples later today. The 4-View screen is something you just have to see. I won't bother explaining it, but I'll say that adding depth to photos makes me feel like a great photographer, even though I'm typically best outfitted with a potato cam.

I just got my 2nd unit; so, I can start to experiment a little.
BUT, I have a *lot* to learn as my last Android device started
in KitKat and runs Nougat today. From a cursory look, quite
a bit has changed since then with a/b updates and the like.
Oh, and finding time for these experiments is another issue...
It's rootable but we need to get the bootloader unlocked. I'm going to ask Red if I can get the key. Will update once that happens.

If you bought directly from RED they will send you the Key to unlock. Hopefully you can work your magic with that. They are not allowed by contract to do that with Carrier phones.

update all Red apps, and you can take portrait or landscape front and back
Good morning Red One users. I have an opportunity to purchase one of these from AT&T and was wondering if anyone can confirm that the speaker has gotten better for hands-free calling. I'm basing this off of a YouTuber who said he cannot hold phone conversations over speakerphone without the other party saying they can't understand him so he has to switch to handset. I've had a chance to see the demo and the AT&T store and they have only one left and they're holding it for me until close today.
I did notice when I was in the AT&T store looking at the demo I noticed the LG I was currently using had all of its signal bars but the hydrogen only had about 3. So I'm wondering if anyone has had any signal issues or drop coverage. I know this depends on your cellphone provider towers locations. Just wondering if anyone saw any drop off in cellphone coverage from previous devices?
I have both the AT&T version as well as the unlocked Titanium. Both operate on the AT&T network without issue. The signal bar has never dropped below half that I'm aware of and I have not had coverage issues even while traveling.
I had a P30 pro briefly at launch but only just picked one up again. My motivation was that outside the current iPhone and 4 XL it should be the next best camera (and in some areas better)
The thing is so far it is massively disappointing, night mode especially actually to the point where I am starting to wonder if I have a faulty device. So far night mode shots are really not that impressive and absolutely worse than the S10+ and Mate 20 pro and not even in the vicinity of the 4 XL or iPhone which I was not expecting at all.

This is not scientific at all but I'd qualify this by saying that I was a professional photographer in a previous life so like to think that I understand lighting.
As I say not scientific and I've to been able to shoot them side by side, #1 is the p30 pro #2 the 4xl in arguably lower light.

I am not a heavy night mode user, but yesterday I notice some kind of violet like fog in a couple of pics taken without touching settings. There was no visible fog in the sky but it was very visible in all pictures taken to the sky or the road in front of me.
I don't use night mode at all unless I need a full exposed shot of the entire scene. P30 pro has 500k ISO and you can maximize it's high ISO capability when you tap on the dark portion of the scene to properly expos it without the need of using night mode
I noticed that Night mode is actually same as just taking a photo. Literally you hold phone still for 6 seconds, and you get the same result as when you just tap and shoot in auto mode.
Something must be wrong there..
The difference is subtle between night mode and photo mode. You capture more detail and dynamic range in night mode. Especially if you set the ISO value low. But the difference is hard to see on the phone screen. On a desktop computer, it's quite dramatic. So no need to mess with night mode if your pics will only be viewed on your phone and posted to social media.

If you looked at the (i) info for each photo you'd see there is a big difference in how it takes the shot / settings used, for one thing normal auto mode you do not need to hold the phone still for X seconds...

I have to strongly disagree about night mode. I got my p30 pro yesterday and HAD to test night mode. It was very dark and the pic looks as if I took it during the day.. just WOW...so kool! I love this phone. The battery charged 100% the next morning %99. Then use it off and on and right now %91. I again LOVE this phone.
