Operating temperatures for Mi9 - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I was just wondering what is the tolerable operating temperatures for this phone, as while being outside at sunny areas where ambient temperature around 40°c have noticed the phone becoming hot and huge battery drain.

[Q] Temperature limit?

Hi all,
I'm traveling today to a pretty hot place where the temperature can get to 55-55 degrees Celsius. I wanted to know If any one knows of any temperature limit, that if crossed may damage the screen to the electronics of the phone?
Thanks
I think the battery has a maximum operational temperature, and that the instructional booklet specifies what. Additionaly, this one time, at JPK, I was playing rescource-hard games while listening to music, and the phone turned off. I think it was around 55 degrees celcius. But check the booklet!

Does he mean room temperature or operating temperature though? If the ambient temperature is 55 deg C, then the phone itself will reach MUCH higher temperatures than an environment of 20deg C (because dissipation of heat becomes increasingly difficult).
Check the manual to see the tested ambient/environment operating temperature range. I doubt many manufacturers test beyond a 40 deg environment/ambient temperature honestly, because humans need to maintain a core body temperature of 37deg C anyway, but the maximum operating temperature of the internal components probably isn't known.
If you must operate your phone in a very hot climate, I'd suggest you only use your phone when absolutely required, and disable features such as bluetooth/wifi to keep it cool. But if it were me, I'd get a militarised phone..
If you are referring to the phones internal temperature (and the outside air temperature is much cooler), then 55 deg C is most likely fine. Solder's melting point is far above 100, and the Pentium 3 at least was shut down at 100deg C.

[Q] What temperature is too high?

Hello,
I have been overclocking my galaxy s and have been wondering what temperature is too high for the phone that it might cause hardware damage. I have heard that running high temperatures will eventually shorten the life span of the device. I am more worried about frying the phone than shortening the lifespan.
Right now if my battery temperature goes above 55 degrees Celsius I turn off the phone.
I know that in the original Sammy firmwares the battery would not charge if the battery temperature was above 60 degrees Celsius and in some custom firmwares this level has been reduced to 50 degrees Celsius.
Does anyone now if there is any built in safety in the phone where it will shutdown if the temperature is too high or am I worrying for nothing?
I used setcpu or voltage control to bring my frequency down to 800 @ 50 celsius, just to be safe, but that is just me being safe! Thank me if this helps

Well, I'd also like to add that keep an eye on the ambient room temperature. On a warm atmosphere it'd take a lot of time to cool off contrast to a chilly one.
Thanks for the replies and the advice guys

Phone overheating issues

HAS ANYONE NOTICED OVERHEATING OF PHONE MOSTLY WHILE CHARGING, GAMING (should expect some heat not this much). I play PUBG on smooth basic plus extreme with no AA and gfx lower settings. Still phone heats up. FAN seems to be a marketing gimmick too. Circulation of air is v poor.
My question is can this be fixed via twrp custom rom tweaks. I'm willing to experiment.
Excuse me. Are you one of those geniuses who charges his phone while gaming?

I think nubia have fake temp status.
Or is that a bug i don't know
When i turn the fan on at max speed. Temp increased. Things like that happen. Or when i come back to auto from performance mode. Tem goes up.
Which is weird. Makes me believe that all this temp and gpu turbo and fan is a gimmick.
Air temp is 26 deg Celsius.

How do you measure the temperature? Was it a temperature of the CPU or the battery?
If your sentiment is not a user error or a fluke, then your unit is defective. Here's what one of the most prolific Youtube reviewers said about the fan - "it was keeping my phone 8 degrees cooler than my Samsung." I assume 8C, not Fahrenheit, because the reviewer is from UK.

YouTube ers are paid. I check the temp stats from gaming app . Inbuilt.
Plus the phone feels hot in hand. Not 8 degrees cooler. And Hunan hand can easily feel 8 degrees change in temp over 5-10 minutes

Instead of admitting that you were sold a defective unit and exchanging it for a working one, you think there's a conspiracy that involves the Nubia corporation and "paid youtubers."
But hey, I'm thinking this guy is not a psychopath. Maybe it's just a user erorr.
Maybe he thinks that having a fan in the phone should make the phone feel cool to touch during gaming.
Maybe he simply doesn't understand that the fan may be lowering the temperature from 55C to 47C, and that 47C will still feel hot to the hand.
Hey guy,
Can you actually provide real world numbers with screenshots?
No one has experienced anything like this before, so either your phone is defective or you have a nervous breakdown.
Yes, the phone overheats while charging but if you switch on the gaming mode to check heat also in certain Celsius comes down gradually and quickly in my case. So fans not a fake gimmick. Also when you are playing games heat is normal for heavy graphic 3d rendering titles like pubg, fortnight I play pubg with extreme HD and it heats but the fan keeps decreasing the heat. My suggestion is to charge where there is air free flow of air like a fan, AC, or cooler to keep ambient temp in control.

There is term called "anpad", search google. Means noob.
In forums here devs try to explore and experiment with every possible problem the OS or hardware may face.
See im not going to respond further to your low IQ behaviour anymore. Good day to you.

Yes
That is understandable, but then what is the fun of a fan gimmick when you need additional external air circulation with AC.
Even with clash of clans. Not much demanding game phone heats up. Plus additional charging while playing the temp increases continuously.
Circulation of heat and cooling inside the phone is poor. I'm starting to wonder if the battery has nay issues of heat while charging.

Low iq behavior? Projection much?
You are the one who's playing games while charging the phone, something that should not be done to a cellphone battery especially with 26C ambient air.
You realize that by charging and playing you are heating up the battery and the cpu at the same time and that's really going to cut battery's life real quick?

Apologies for the mess. Was relyed on Google voice without proof reading. I have edited now.
I'm not suggest to plug in a charger while gaming, it will make the phone hot, especially when you using the original fast charger. Anoher thing is you hae to know you can't get a high performance with the low temperature, if you get a very hot phone, the cpu will running in a low clock speed. The RM3 can get highest score on Antutu so I think the fan is doing something.

I agree the fan is going something. Had the circulation been a bit effective i think it could have been utilised in a more better way.
Anyways i was just charging the phone while gaming to test the heat limits. Not actually doing it.
Still i have noticed battery heat while standby charging

Is idle temp of 35°C too high for new Note 9

I bought a Note 9 last month and I am noticing the idle temps are around 34-35°C. I live in a hot country where the avarage ambient temps whole year are around 33°C. With moderate, non gaming, work the temp goes to even 42°C. God knows how high it will go if I gamed.
I have found some people saying that anything above 30°C will lessen the lifespan of the battery. So I am bit worried after paying a lot for the phone I wont be able to use it even 2 years. I aim to use this phone for 3-4 years.
I was under the impression that Note 9 had some water/carbon cooling system, which seems to be useless here. Are these temps normal? Should I be worried? Will it have some long term effect? Are there any tips to make battery cooler?
I used Accubattery for these temp readings.
I wouldn't think 35°C is too hot.
No.matter what claims Samsung make for their improved cooling the ambient temperature is always going to effect the battery and cpu temperatures.
Whether we're discussing cooling a phone or a vehicle engine unless using some kind of refrigeration the coolest temperature is going to be above ambient temperature, so higher ambient temperature will cause higher internal temperature.
I wouldn't think it will have a significant detrimental effect on battery life although as you state gaming or other high power usage such as Sat nav is obviously going to push the temperature higher, I expect battery and soc management will keep things in check if temperatures get too high.
I wouldn't be worried about battery life unless sustained temperature of in excess of 45°C.
Lower temperature does tend to benefit battery life a little, ideally around 20°C should give optimum battery life in terms of charging cycles.
My advice would be enjoy using your phone, don't worry.

Thx for the reply, I don't game much so thats not a problem, I have noticed phone does get hot when using GPS which I have to do more frequently to navigate; but I am in the car in AC, so I think it would be manageable.

just the sun hitting it can push the temp. but it might simply be a rogue app or something.
if freshly resettedþfactory wiped its under 30c, you know it was an app that you installed that caused it.

Question Does the phone become hot during fast charging?

Dear all!
I've got this phone since a few days and I'm pretty happy!
But I have got one question: during the fast charging, the tel becomes hot. I thought it was normal, but Oppo clearly explains that the phone does not do that!
Do you have this issue, too?
The phone becomes cold really quickly after having a 100% battery, but I'm still wondering if all is ok.
Thanks for your feedback.

Hi we're meeting
Yes, I'm trying to find somebody with the same issue!
No it doesn't get hot compared to my former Galaxy's
It gets a bit warm but not hot...i would say normal thing. Had oneplus 6t with 20W charging and during charging the charger was medium hot and phone was just a bit warm.
So i dont see the difference between x3 pro and op6t in terms of charging (except of course the time needed to be fully charged)
@pyb92 you know for you it might be "hot" but my perception might tell "a bit warm"....so this is a subjective thing unless you measure the temperature.
Hello I have no heat problem either at the time with my O + 6T or today oppo find x3 pro.
Thank you all for your answers. Yes it's subjective, and I think I would not consider it's a pb if Oppo did not communicate on the fact that it does not get warm at all!
What I can say is that the phone is warmer than my Note 10 Plus.
With another charger (less powerful), it's the same result.

Fasting will probably not enable under 60°F.
Avoid fast charging if the battery temperature is below 82F as it can cause Li plating which will permanently degrade the cell.
Never attempt to charge if below 40F
Best battery start temperature in 85F in the case of my Note 10+, most phones are likely similar.
Charging is an electrochemical reaction that requires sufficient temperature to work properly.
Avoid letting the charging temperature climb above 100F. Use air and/or a damp microfiber cloth to stabilize the temperature below 100F, somewhere in the 85-99F range preferably.
In this range it will fast charge the fastest.
Avoid letting the charge drop below 30% or charging past 90% as it stresses the cell needlessly.
A charge cutoff of 62-80% is best; Li's wuv frequent midrange power cycling. 40 to 65% is near ideal for longevity.
Don't worry too much as these batteries aren't that hard to replace. When the capacity drops below 80% of its original, just replace it.
Sudden drops in battery capacity in the span of days and/or erratic fast charging indicates a battery failure. Replace it soon.
Any signs of case swelling strongly indicates a battery failure, replace it asap☠
Most batteries rest directly on the expensive display which can be damaged by battery swelling. Aged batteries near the end of their lifespan cutoff of 80% have a greater chance of suffering sudden failures as well as a thermal runaway which will destroy the phone.
Depending on it's usage throughout it's life the Li may last months or many years. Regardless replace it when it reaches the end of it's service life. My 10+ lasted about 1.5 years of heavy usage in a desert environment. $50 for a new battery and the phone is running like it did when new... what's not to like?
That you DC?
Hi...Don't worry, this is normal. Especially for mobile phones that support quick charging (9V2A) and super-fast charging (5V4. 5A, 10V4A), the charging temperature will be higher than the normal charging (5V2A). ... One of the most common reasons for heating up of device during charging is their continuous use...
