Hi guys, just got the Mi9, good device
I updated to latest 10.2 global (or something like that), and read that now it can keep the notification icons in the status bar.
I can't find the setting for that ? Is there a setting ?
Thanks for your insight
EDIT:
Short answer, if you like your notification icons to stay more than a few secs in the status bar :
Install global beta (dev) version of MIUI, using the XiaomiTool V2 or other method, no need to unlock boobloader.
Links, more details bellow, thanks to all who answered to my question!

Yeah, that was on.
I suppose that's a "suck it up" situation.
Asked a friend about it who never used other phones than Xiaomi, and he does not find a problem there lol.
Hope I can get used to it, but seems to be the way it works on many Chinese made devices.
I don't quite understand your concern. Are you looking to get notification icons in status bar?
You'd need to install global betas, which you can do if you're on global without unlocking bootloader. Then you enable them under status bar settings.
Follow this guide and install global dev(beta) rom everything will come back plus battery life a lot better, thats what I did and I felt much better, now since my bootloader is unlocked Iam rooted with a slightly different rom but global dev is good enough as long as your bootloader is locked, hope this helps, cheers

Thanks to your detailed explaination, and yes it's what i'm hoping for.
I have the stupid waiting period for unlocking the bootloader, so might as well go ahead and do what you suggest.
Thanks again
EDIT :
Global dev version flashed, all working as I like.
Again, thanks to you guys, I was really going to regret selecting that phone....
you can use NotchTest from play store as a workaround if you don't want or you are not able to unlock the bootloader.

Global beta has permanent notification icons on status bar, and you don't need to unlock bootloader, and you get weekly updates.

Use the tool to install global stable, after that download global Dev file to phone, and use the updater to install it.
If you find missing the option to select files just click 10 times on "10" to get access.

Will this be like an update if I do this from global stable to global beta? Or will it wipe my device and data?
From Global Stable to Global Dev nothing will harm your data. All settings, apps etc. will remain as before.
Cheers
Toscha
This will NOT work for the european EEA versions of the Mi 9, fyi.

Hello !
I have some question, hope that you can help me.
1. I want to install the Xposed module but i want to knw if it's stable on the Mi Mix ROM.
I'm asking that because i came from a Xperia Z Ultra and the Xposed module wasn't that stable...
2. I want to change of ROM, how can i perform a clean install and kepp my actual apps, is there a way ?
ANNEXE : I encounter some issue on my Xiaomi eu ROM, hope you can help me to find something
Here is my problem :
1 - The first one is my fingerprint sensors works 1/2 on the lockscreen, it's like that since the stable update of the 14 jun 2017. You need to know that the fingerprint sensor works well for unlocking app and else..
2 - The research function doesn't work at all, I have an error (cf : video). whatever the choices that i make the problem will still the same...
Can you please help me ??
Best Regards,
LordBli
Sorry, I wish I could help. I to want to root my device so that I can flash custom roms too, but I've all but given up on that. I don't know why you mean though, when it comes to your second question -
"The research function doesn't work at all, I have an error (cf : video). whatever the choices that i make the problem will still the same..."
Xposed works great on MIUI 8 (8.5) (Android 6)
If u want keep MIUI or change ROM to pure android :
Universal method >
1 - Titanium backup 'but need some permissions for MIUI to works and need confirm manually for each apps who will be restored (MIUI and AOSP/LOS)
MIUI specific >
2 - MIUI integrate a similar function in backup/restore item in settings under factory reset (work like a charm too and no action is required > MIUI only)
Both store backuped elements in internal storage then u can easily clone it on ur desktop !!!

Without additional information, it's quite difficult to assist.
Firstly, you came from the Z Ultra. I too purchased the Mi Mix to replace my Z Ultra, with its stock firmware being stuck on MM and the aftermarket support not being brilliant the Mix was a suitable choice. However I had no issue with Xposed on my Z Ultra, perhaps your choice of Xposed modules was the problem???
If you haven't unlocked your bootloader, then you need to do that first. Bear in mind, once unlocked you will lose all android pay functionality.
Which Mix do you have...? Mine is the 6GB/256GB variant, and certain system modifications only work on the specific versions.
Have you flashed TWRP, if so which version?
In answer to your first problem - remove all fingerprints and re-add them. On some of the stock miui.com firmware releases, it doesn't migrate fingerprint information correctly.
In answer to your second problem - you *should* try running the current weekly release from xiaomi.eu:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi.../files/xiaomi.eu/MIUI-WEEKLY-RELEASES/7.7.20/
If you are running *stock* firmware, you *will* need to factory reset.
-----
With regards to your "research" problem, I assume you mean the global search from the phone (If this is not the case then let us know what you mean).
Again, I've not experienced issues searching the phone since changing to the xiaomi.eu (weekly) global firmware which is based on Android 7.0 however Xposed support is minimal.
If you want to change firmware, unless you change to the same build structure then you won't be able to keep your current data.
e.g. stock miui.com firmware to xiaomi.eu firmware.
In this situation, root and titanium backup is your friend.
Thanks for your answer, it is really helpful !

The only change I would personally use on a mi-globe firmware would be the three-way reboot menu, however that can be substituted with an application.
IMHO, I don't see any real reason to use "their" firmware as all they're doing is tweaking an already good release by an established team of developers

____Update 12/01____
Since a couple of days we now have v 9.1.2.0. I haven't noticed any differences yet, but the wallpaper carousel is functioning again. They also implemented fixes for problems that I personally did not encounter. ...aaand the notifications are slightly improved! Some of them evene expand and allow for direct interaction. Breathtaking development.
Get it while it's fresh on en.miui.com.
Should you not be rooted, I can recommend installing it via XiaoMiTool. I used this to flash the last MIUI 8 Global Stable, and then got 9.1.1.0 and now 9.1.2.0 via OTA. I've read that for some people here fast charging isn't working on th 9-er Firmwares. I have had no problem with that at all. Maybe it's because you guys are rooted, or because system wasn't flashed properly? I don't know, but I feel with you...
____Update 11/16____
The MIUI9 release has since been officially announced. This XDA article sheds some light on the release. However, as of today, the ROM is still not available for download on en.miui.com.
If you don't feel like waiting for OTA hitting you, shadowxaero has provided a link to download 9.1.1.0 (NDEMIEI) in post #7.
To enable VOLTE in presumably every MIUI realease, KevinLuong has shared a great link to an explanation including an easy fix in post #2.
Update 11/17
The Firmware is officially available on en.miui.com now. Should you not be rooted, consider installing it via XiaoMiTool, which will let you chose and download the Firmware within the programs flashing dialogue (give that man a beer).
_____initial post_____
..but there is no mention of it anywhere (yet). Why is that?
It's Version 9.1.1.0 (NDEMIEI). Got it OTA on Friday night, but it isn't even yet listed on the official site. Whats up with that?
Everything seems to run great, except that VOLTE can not be activated, which I find a little weird for a stable release. Oh, and notfications are still not up to scratch in MIUI 9, which is the single most annoying thing about MIUI.
Anyone else on this ROM? Maybe with tips, tricks, htoughts or insights?

Hmm. Why would they do that? I'm not even participating in the user feedback program (at least not willingly ). Usually the nightlys they push out clearly state that they are nightlys, don't they? I saw this with the Mi 6 when it got v 9.0.1.0. In this case on Mix 2 the ROM clearly states "stable" though.
Well, I don't want to complain. I feel special now. :victory:

Yes, I had Global Stable (v8.5.1.0).
It's a global stable beta (stable beta = what exactly??) according to the miui forums. There was an announcement about it. I put a link to the download in the reverse engineering thread.
I haven't actually tried it yet but I would be interested to know if it passes safetynet, I guess.

You can flash it with fastboot, but you have to convert the system to a system.img in order to do so.

I used sdat2img.py
https://github.com/xpirt/sdat2img
Use that to make a system.img, flash that with fastboot.
Then flash all of the other partitions with fastboot from the unpacked zip, following the pattern of the Xiaomi fastboot updates so you know which thing needs to be flashed to what.
Kind of difficult to explain and probably not worth putting together a whole tutorial, but that's how you do it.
this build passes safetynet with Magisk 14. I also installed this over Epic rom and not over v8 stable.. works fine anyways. I did format userdata and cache from fastboot before i flashed.

This will most likely not work coming from the developer ROM, but try the regular manual update method:
Download the ROM and copy it to your device. Then go to settings > About Phone > System Update and chose your update package from the extended menu (three dots, top right).
Should the regular method not work, and should your device not be unlocked/rooted, then simply use the XiaoMiTool. If you follow the instructions this program works really really well, so consider donating that guy a beer or two.

It is fixed in 9.3.21 global beta

Weird! Is that with just gravitybox module installed?
Works all good here.
As for any miui update, I doubt anything specific given really best compatibility is for AOSP roms, but perhaps request it via their threads

I just found out that in xiaomi.eu rom you can just activate notification icons from the settings... and they work correctly now without installing GB...
I think that for now I'm good like this
In the EU Rom (Global 10.2.17 Stable) it's a simple setting
- Notifications and Status Bar
- Show icons for incoming notifications
Edit : I confirm that icons also disappear in 10.2.22, they just were there a few more seconds. Dammit.

I also have this option on 10.2.17. But the icons still disappear after a few seconds.

Don't hate me, but I LOVE this "bug" , android is so pishy with notifications, I don't need to be reminded all the time that spotify is running for example, I mean I can tell that it's running since I'm listening to music. I wish we could just choose wish apps are allowed to show an icon on the status bar, that'd be something

It's not a bug, it's a feature. [emoji41]
I like it, and read about it a hundred times before buying this phone, don't understand how people are still surprised about it...
Edit: nevertheless, Xiaomi should give the option for it, aware that a lot of users dislike it, as they did with notch smoothing.
I'm on the first of the two (not Rooted, yet, waiting for bootloader waiting period) and I love it. Is there a good reason I should change to Xiaomi.eu rom?
Is up to you to flash and test it to see if it's of your like, I personally like it better Xiaomi.eu due the lasts changes of china rom compared to global, and now MIUI 11 beta is coming soon.
What changes on .eu could be so good to be chosen over the stability of the global?
I prefer global because of widevine L1. Xiaomi.eu is L3.

L1 is now on xiaomi.eu beta
No ads is enough for me to get away from stock. The only reason i'm on miui.eu is because i can't get a better battery life in any other rom.

I see. Thanks for the info.
Well personally theres not bloatware on eu, there's good stability for being a "beta" good battery backup at least for me, widevine L1 is now working, notifications on status bar and lockscreen works great now, and few things that are minimum changes like the translation for the launcher with app-drawer, the update of the camera with modes in the camera-roll. That's why I recommend for everyone to test each ROM and find the most of their like based on their own use.
Miui.eu developer got permanent notifications btw.
On global stable they disappear after a few seconds.

Isn't this regular Android behaviour? You mean the notification that pops up and then you can normally access it in notification list.
When it comes to ads, I uninstalled all mi apps since I don't want them anyways and I haven't seen a single app ad yet.

No, i mean the status bar icons left to the notch, which indicate new messages for example.
(You have to enable "show icons for incoming notifications" in settings.)
But in global they disappear after few seconds. To achieve a cleaner look i guess.
Miui.eu fixed this.

Another thing: i can't use the Mi theme store in global. (not allowed in my country) without a workaround. It's also fixed in .eu.
There's also a 3-way reboot menu (bootloader and recovery) and things like AI preloading (Apps start up a little faster)
Just give it a try. You can always go back to stock global with Mi Flash Tool
You also lose OTA on the global of Rooted, don't you? On .eu you can get OTA weekly. And a good thing is I guess that it's based on the Chinese MIUI, and there's gotta be less bugs than some ported custom rom out there.
I think that Global MIUI is the best ROM so far for this device.
Xiaomi.eu is a good MIUI custom ROM but I don't think that it's more stable than stock Global ROM. It's maintained only by a small group of people, ROMs are not tested before release, it has old navbar buttons, old system apps (Global rom has system app updater which is good) and ota's are not working properly so far.
So I prefer stock Global ROM until the phone is supported by Xiaomi. After that I'll flash PE Plus which is the best AOSP ROM for this phone so far.
I have a problem since I buy the device in the incoming connections when someone calls me and I use the phone or communication programs does not show me a shortcut to connect to the top, but the imposition of a full screen like the iPhone Is this a defect in the soft or problem in the settings

Do you mean when you receive a phone call, you get a full screen of the dialer app present? Press home button and it will let you continue using your phone.

You're running Global stable. Do you have the default Xiaomi mi Dialer and contacts app? Thats the default one that ships with Global version. I don't know if the google version is different (perhaps someone else can help) but I noticed you're on Miui version 10.3.2.
Perhaps you should update your device. It might solve the issue for you? Go to about>system update>check for updates and install. The latest one should be 10.3.11 for global stable.

Ahh i see, See if you can enable the app otherwise you can use the Xiaomi's official site for downloading and installing. You don't need to unlock your bootloader either.
http://en.miui.com/download-361.html#616
It also has instructions on it, if you need it. Just make sure it's the global version and for the Mi 9T.

I bought the device from Ali Express and it was named as k20 pro with global rom.
I had asked the world rum from the seller and the device was connected to my version 10.3.1 and I got an update yesterday for version 10.3.2
is it a k20 pro or a Mi 9t Pro ?
If it's a chinese variant with global rom flashed. I would suspect you have a custom rom as the official gobal rom is on 10.3.11.
I can't really help any further if it's been flashed on the chinese rom. I don't want you to brick your phone.
Wait for someone with more knowledge than me to help you.
Sorry I couldn't be anymore of a help.
