app is available on playstore named "cpu throttling test", you need to keep the device idle atleast for 5-10mins before starting the test, run the test in foreground for 10 mins, dont use the phone while the test is going on. Also how are the thermals like whe playing pubgm on extreme fps on this device?
Chinese Miui 10.3.11 8/128

Hahaha...? With Malakas Kernel I have score around 160,000 GIPS after 15 minutes and with unthermal module I have score around 190,000 GIPS with my Pocophone F1 after the same time. So we certainly need custom Kernels for these new phones...

Oh very nice, even after 10 minutes barely any throttling!
Did you let it run with room temperature?

remember to take the results with a grain of salt. judging from the reviews it's not always accurate. don't remember the exact weather conditions but i wasn't in a sauna or anything. probably was around 25°C
You haven't seen my Mi 5s which has stock Rom. It throttles by nearly 50% of max speed after ~4 minutes of use and even disables one of the two high performance cores. In other words, games start to lag after 4-5 minutes.
So I'm happy to see that this doesn't happen here
Hey guys, can someone please direct me to a resource on "unthermal module" for Pocophone? Is it a kernel that allows modification of the termal throttling values?
Thanks a lot!
I did 2 tests, one with Game Turbo On and the other Off.
It throttled when Game Turbo was Off.

For pocophone? You should post in poco thread instead then.
Lineage OS, can't remember if stock or immensity, probably the latter, thermal controller set to benchmark.

Those brown shiny strips on my phone cover are copper tapes. Got them off Lazada / Shoppee for around RM10. i.e. USD 3.
I think they could help distribute heat on the back of the phone over a larger area.

It still throttles, but not that badly as before. You can compare my Min score with the other users.
Meanwhile could you also run the same test and post your Min Max Average scores? Would be nice if there's more data for everyone to benchmark against

Throttling only happens in graphics benchmarks!!!!!
When you play games the GPU is fast enought reach the vsznc limit (60fps) without any problems which means the GPU isn't fully stressed and won't throttle .
And besides even when throttled the Adreno is still 2x faster then tegra 3 or mali-400mp in some benchmarks.
That beeing said I'm pretty confident that this problem will be fixed either by LG/Qualcomm themselves or by the great devs in this forum (undervolting, raising the temperature the GPU starts to throttle)

its most probably a low thermal limit set for the review devices. its set to 60c? that is kind of low to set it at that value. the Galaxy Nexus was set to 80c if im not mistaken
Wait for the final devices, then we can test it ourselves

I asked a reviewer (one who has only just posted their review, so they spent alot longer than some with the phone) on G+ whether he noticed any overheating. He said he hadn't ANY warming at all. It sounds like for every day use there won't be any issue.

The basic point is that it does happen. Which it shouldn't. Perhaps the problem is indeed that they set the max temp too low (60c). Only time will tell.

Try looking at your battery statistics. Whatever is heating your phone is using a lot of battery to do that.
all my apk i have install other my devices: dell venue 8, htc desire, samsung i8150

battery stats shows nothing wonder
it is not the fault of the battery
hot feel in around camera - maybe procesor

Well, its not a solution because there is no problem.
These phones are going to get hot when used to game. By design. No way around it. Unless you start messing with voltages governors and clock speeds. You can really make a difference when you do. Undervolting and overclocking the gpu and reducing max clock speed to 1000, is how i used to play games. Now i switched to my shield for games.

i bought this phone last week, i am not satisfied with this phone, it gets hot when browsing, lag when playing games(because of the unstable high speed clock), i checked using the aida64 app and the big cores clock speed easily reach 2.2 ghz speed. that was unnecessary, even after turning the battery saver mode, the cores still easily touch 2.2 ghz. i already discussed this on the indonesian mi community, but then i got bullied, people saying it was my fault, not the phone. but there was many thread that complains about lag when playing games and bad battery life. i supose that was because the bad management of cpu cores.
note : i bought this phone in indonesia, with TAM (official) warranty
my rom is currently on the 10.3.6.0(PFGMIXM)

It's very commom for any Snapdragon device to reach top clock speed when in use, download CPU-z and do a little scrolling to see that.
The lag in games you're getting is most probably because of the 3GB RAM of your variant not the CPU as SD660 can handle most mobile games with ease.
About battery life, how much SOT are you getting? RN7 should handle at least 6hrs with some heavy gaming included.
And about temperature, how much degrees is your device peaking at? Anything below 38ºC should be fine.
And lastly, about mi community......well, most people there look like VERY inexperienced users, i wouldn't take them as a parameter to prove your point.

3gb of ram is good enough for gaming unless ur playing a heavy game while on youtube and facebook at the same time. the problem with this phone is the aggressive thermal throttling, once the phone reaches 40°c the phone becomes noticeably slower.
my advice to OP is unlock ur bootloader flash some custom rom, custom kernel and root ur device until you find the performance/battery ur looking for.

3GB of RAM has not been fine for some time now, there is a lot of games you wouldn't be able to multitask with any other application with only 3GB.
Few examples: TES Blades, Fortnite, PS2 emulation.
Also what are you doing to reach 40° on your device? As for mine never passed 38° and I live in a hot country(Brazil).
I Agree with installing a custom Kernel to improve your performance overall, but right know the best optimized ROM is still MIUI as many threads here suggest.

thats my point, 3gb is enough for games as long as you dont multi task. and this phone is mid range.
im in Philippines, room temperature here is about 37° heavy games like pubg makes my phone temperature skyrocket reaching up to 45° especially with thermal mod.
btw MIUI has the worst ram management for this phone. its closing background apps like no tomorrow, but on any custom rom its actually quite decent.

AFAIK, that's called thermal-throttle/ing. When RN7 reach its peak performance and certain heat, to prevent overheat normally our device will slowing down its performance and it caused lags and fps drop for sure
I also encounter this problem when playing pubg even with smooth-ultra setting

It happened to me, custom roms aren't good for gaming then switched back to MIUI, when I play phone gets 45 C max, my battery gives 6 hours of straight online gaming, I'm on MIUI Global 10.3.5, Evira kernel 3.8.

Nope. With moderate use I barely get 7, mostly 6. I got this sot by using apps like line, wa, instagram, youtube, browsing, downloading tons of file and one match playing pubg and pes.
I reach 8 to 9 hours sot only if i using wifi and playing videos constantly, minimum social media and no gaming.
Ofc people used their phone different each others. But, im sure they are having same battery drain. People talk about this so many times and everywhere. Ur case having 10+ sot like only happen 1:10 of all lavender users.

Its true continuous gaming on this phone (with stock miui) is bad. You will get smooth gameplay only in short term, like a one match pubg. Then it will start to lag because of heat. We need to keep the phone temp as cool as possible when used for gaming to get less frame drop. Example, playing close to a fan or inside a room with air conditioner on.

Yes, thermal throttle where the main reason. Its limit cpu whenever temp -read by system- reach 43/44 degree. A temp read by system are mostly not indicate the real temp. Besides, we have clockspeed max at 2.2Ghz, making our phone faster to heats up easilly. Thats why thermal throttling the cpu in such early time. (Its ruins gameplay, isnt it? :v)
If we look inside thermal-engine.conf on lavender, it use two sensor for detection and two step for throttling the cpu. First step it will limit clockspeed by 1,5Ghz and 1,9Ghz. Second step it will limit clockspeed by 1,1Ghz and 1,4Ghz. Because the temp gap between these step are only 1°, so mostly thermal-engine will going to limit clockspeed by 1,1Ghz and 1,4Ghz. Imagine play pubg with that clockspeed, lags and frame drop will occurs oftenly.
I've seen Mi 8 Lite with the same chipset playing pubg continously without any frame drop. I took its thermal-engine configuration and compare them with lavender.
Interestingly there are specified profiles for gaming and pubg are missing on lavender. Thus, both thermal-engine are really different. A same chipset should having same thermal at least. But, this show us that lavender thermal thingy are not being optimized yet while mi8 lite does already.

Can somebody test throtting and temperatures in GFXBench (battery test - Manhattan 3.1)?
Would like to know too. From what i've seen in video reviews, people say this phone gets hot.
Would be curious if someone could run the throttling test for 30 minutes
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skynet.cputhrottlingtest&hl=en_CA
Agreed! I've seen YouTube vids that the Red Magic 3 doesn't really ever throttle at all no matter how long you run it or how hard you push it. Curious if the RG2 holds up to the same?
I had a red magic 3 12gb 256gb model.. and I found it cheap and poor quality speakers vibrate and not at same level as ROG 1. I would avoid in my opinion. You can order cooler from giztop for the 128gb model
I have not tested, but so far in everyday use I've only felt the phone get hot if I am BOTH playing a game and charging the phone back up at the same time. If the phone is at 100% when I'm playing a game, or if I charge the phone without playing a game, the phone doesn't feel warm.
Be careful if you leave it on your bed not to cover it with blanket/pillow while charging. It probably has thermal safeties, but even the pros like Apple and Samsung have exploding batteries these days, so better to play it safe.

Did you already set a game profile for PUBG in the xmode app? You can increase the thermal limit before throttling kicks in by doing so.

I'm pretty sure it's the same on the CN ROM. Just open the Armory Crate app, select your PUBG game and click Game Profiles then scroll down on the right side and there is a section called Temperature Control. Change that from Default to High.

Hmm..it seems i dont have such options to control my temperature at my game profiles..u may refer to the pictures that i attached.
From my experience so far there has been no thermal throttling during the Manhattan test however while playing Vainglory at 120hz for ~2 hours I noticed a bit of temperature hike with no fan at 45°c.. but seems to stay around 118 fps. The fan added dropped me down to about 41°c and 120 fps stayed fairly constant. The "heat" of this phone is mostly due to the fact that the vent on the back pushes the hot air outside the phone so if your hand is near it.... It gets hot. But overall the phone is never unbearable and the face that it is hot outside the phone shows the heatsink/cooler is doing it's job by pushing the hot air out instead of keeping it internally.

my RoG Phone 2 throttled (Frame Drop) at 47 Degree C temperature playing PUBG for 1 game with HDR+Shadow On+Anti Aliasing On graphic setting.
Man, is there any custom kernel setting to removed this throttling :/

There is no setting that removes throttling, since this is hardware related not software related.

That is because you got tencent version and that one does not have same features as the global/elite edition has got.
Of course it is going to get a little hot with all that POWER!!

Settle the problem already bro, switch to global with temp option armoury crate. Thanks

That is because you got global ROM now. But again temperature setting won't completely remove throttling, it can throttle again anytime.
Cooling is needed to lower temps properly.
Hi all,
I got my oneplus 10 pro. I use it for two weeks already and the device getting overheating very fast. Even if I use navigation, when I'm changing and more.
Can you recommend what I can do to solve it? My device getting really hot

Turn off QHD if you're using it..
Lighten the load on what you're using .

Looks like Luk is having a go too, amongst others.
And lol yes it's the wrong thread but I'm happy to know
its because of the sd 8 gen 1

It's more specifically due to OnePlus not spending the extra money to properly cool the thing.
its the worst cpu ever made

What is? The 8 gen 1?
It runs everything at speeds I've never witnessed before.
If your phone is overheating then could just be bad build quality but I don't think that's in the SOC.

It's not though. That same test on the Snapdragon 810 would be much worse... This one throttled so bad that over time its performance was pulled all the way down to the level of a Snapdragon 801 that was also thermal throttling (before the 801 throttled even further later)...
The reality is that it's up to the manufacturer to tame these SoCs. The SoC is designed to boost to max performance when it can and throttle when it hits certain temps. Seeing how the phone can't really dissipate the heat that effectively, the SoC will always throttle at some point under a sustained load but adding things like vapor chambers can extend that window to the point it's ONLY going to be noticeable when doing stupid things like these kind of tests.
