Hey guys...
Just got a used note 8 and I flashed it to Android pie with one ui (N950USQU5DSD3). Now the problem is that I can't update the phone via OTA. When I click software update its sticks at "registering device" with a spinning circle. Now I suspect that it's a U950W (my friend said it was locked with Bell and unlocked after the the plan ends). Now on sammobile.com the lastest firmware for note 8 (N950U) is N950USQS5DSF5. And I don't want to flash back to the Canadian version (n950w) because it doesn't get update as often as the n950u or n950u1 and it comes with a lot of Bell bloatware.
So for me to get a OTA without any bloatware, which version should I flashed?
Many many thanks.

I bought a Factory Unlocked Note 8 from Amazon model name is SM-N950U . I use Phone Info it told me my model is SM-N950UZKAXAA and working on XAA csc. It's running on Verzion Firmware but has no bloatware and carrier provide info is XAA/XAA/VZW . But i haven't receive any OTA update until now. I used smart switch it told me "Your current version is lastest", and verizon software update told me "The current firmware is not supported !". But i try many times to flash verizon firmware version but my phone still not have any carrier bloatware and still have no OTA update !
Anyone told me how to receive OTA update with my phone ! Although i flash many carrier firmware but it still XAA/XAA/VZW !
I used to flash N950U1 firmware but it make my wifi connection on my phone not perfect, it's slow down to much !
When I first got my Note8 I flashed the unlocked ATT firmware to get rid of carrier bloat. If the Oreo update is pushed by ATT will I still get it or do I need to revert back the actual ATT firmware?
So you are currently running the U1 XAA firmware?
I'm on the N950U1 US Unlocked. My carrier is ATT. My phone is not factory unlocked just flashed.
Ok, unlocked or not doesn't matter. It's the firmware you're running. If you're on the U1 firmware, then you will get the Oreo U1 update via OTA when it's pushed by Samsung (Not Att) to the other U1 phones.
Ill put a screen shot so you can see. I feel like I'm wrong.
Ok. So being on this firmware even though I bought the phone at ATT I will have to wait for Samsung to push the update? If that's the case I guess Ill see it in a few months from now lol.
Exactly. But I have a feeling it will be pushed approximately the same time as the carrier firmwares.
I'm guessing that ALL S8/S8+/Note8 will have Oreo BEFORE S9/S9+ reach it's first preorder customer.
Samsung has been pushing fairly hard on updates for s8/s8+/note8 on all fronts since beginning of the year and it would just be to embarrassing for the to release the s9 line without the Note getting it before
Hi i am new here and need help with updating my Samsung note 9 i still have a baseband N960USQS1ARI5 but will like to update to the latest firmware. i'm using an unlocked AT&T phone. can anyone guide me? I'm not sure if updating the firmware will lock the phone and the process to update, do I just update the firmware in stages as the updates were released till i get to the latest update or can i update straight up to the latest? I am thinking of using Odin, is that a safe way to do this? any help will be appreciated. Lastly, can I change from the AT&T firmware to lets say a none carrier based firmware so as to stop seeing the AT&T logo on boot up? Maybe switch to a firmware that supports global or international? Does anyone have links to an unlocked firmware update i can use, as well? Please help!
I must state that the phone never updates automatically as it always says the software is up to date.

to your last point, at&t phones are notoriously bad at updating
factory unlocked phones will remain forever unlocked and phones unlocked that are bespoke to a specific carrier will also remain unlocked even with Odin flashes providing that the method employed to unlock it was legitimate. Some unlock methods employ root and only trick the phone into thinking its unlocked. Well, once you remove root, and thusly the trick, the unlock is gone. I have ran across rare examples where the person swore up and down that they unlocked their phone with a legit unlock code and that it relocked to a carrier once the sim was inserted and initial programming completed, but i dunno. Sounds weird to me, but every person who said this also said that the phone locked to a carrier other than the one it came from originally. Take that for what its worth, but i still mostly stand by the first couple lines of this section of my diatribe
If you want the at&t crap gone, get the N960U1 firmware and flash it in Odin. You will need the modified version of Odin to flash it so it can ignore the 255 errors the phone throws up from flashing firmware for a carrier (or, in this case, no carrier) on to a phone that it wasnt originally designated (not designed) for
go to sammobile.com/firmwares, get the info for the firmware you want to d/l, get the Frija tool or Samfirm and download the firmware thru one of those as theyre literally 5x faster and flash it

I have a Note 9 SM-N960U purchased as used.
It is ATT branded.
The phone is unlocked but has not received any update since more than a year.
Checking for update in settings gives "the phone has the latest update".
I don't mind playing with odin but what firmwares should I flash?
Attached settings screenshot.
Edit: on sammobile latest OS for N960U with ATT CSC is Oreo 8.1.
Can I flash N960U firmware for USC CSC? latest is with Pie

Hey, sorry for opening up this old thread, but I'm going through a similar problem as you were, and were you able to successfully flash another Carrier's firmware to the AT&T?
If your device is unlocked. You should be able to install the Stock US Samsung OS onto your device and it should work perfectly
It's an unlocked Galaxy S10 AT&T G973U..
I am using it internationally and not with an AT&T sim, so I don't try to upgrade it OTA anymore..
I tried Smart Switch, it says it's up to date. But last security patch was April 2019 and it's running Android 9.
Build and Baseband: G973USQU1ASD7 (According to SamMobile) there's no Android 10 for this baseband.
But my question is, can I flash let's say USA (Android 10) G973USQU3CTB1 or would I need to wait for the baseband for my model?
If I missed something, feel free to correct me.
Thanks!
Having a "U" model means Universal. You can flash any U.S. carrier stock firmware to it. If you have AT&T firmware and want to use T-mobile firmware instead, you can do it by flashing it with Odin.
You can get most firmwares off Sam mobile (Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile). AT&T firmware is hard to come by and you will usually have to pay to get it from a pay site like www.gsm2file.com
Just download an Android 10 firmware and flash it. No matter what it is as long as it's for the U model line.

Ok, thank you very much.
And is "USA" only unbranded? I don't want any bloatware since I am international and I don't benefit from anything they offer.
The G973U phone will only accept U.S. firmware (Verizon, Sprint, At&t, T-mobile, Spectrum, Xfinity, and unlocked U1 Samsung firmware). So if you flash the U1 unbranded firmware you will get rid of carrier bloatware.

Say I wanna get rid of the bloatware, what firmware do I select from the U1 variants? Because I see all of them have carrier names.
If you get it from sam mobile it's XAA from Unknown. The latest is the CTB5 bootloader. I think there's also a thread in the forums here that contains Odin firmware.
