Audiophile Redmi Note 7 WCD9335/WSA881x - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have been using Neutron and Poweramp players for audio listening. Testing between the two, both of the players have 192kHz/24bit playback for PCM. I wanted to check if the 660 snap allows 192+ and the volume dropped drastically when i chose 352.8 or 384(see the attachment below). This confirms that snapdragon 660 has its limit which is 192kHz. I was doing some digging on the snapdragon 660 audio dac for listening. This is what I have found from their website.

Audio Playback (WCD9335)
Playback Dynamic Range: 130dB
Total Harmonic Distortion + Noise (THD+N), Playback: -109dB
Sampling, Playback: 44.1kHz, 48kHz
PCM, Playback: Up to 192kHz/24bit
Speaker Playback (WSA881x) (not interested in the speaker amp)
Not many phones support my in-ear headphone P1 Pinnacle by Mee audio because it has impedance of 50Ω. It is difficult to drive those drivers in the headphone. Surprisingly I found redmi note 7 is playing it without trouble. Having said that I'm waiting for a type C to micro usb OTG cable to arrive to test the difference with a dedicated mobile amp + dac. Do you guys have any links that can help to find the actual audio output of redmi note 7 device like some graphs or real life testing through the 3.5mm jack? I'm wondering if i will need the mobile dac+amp at all.

Real life data reflects that it has good integrated dac and amp. However I would like to know more from audio experts here. By the way I found some articles regarding OEM disables the high quality of the dac and amp to save power by default. Now i need to understand if my neutron or poweramp can detect those. Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting, thanks for the info

Line-in Android

Hi,
I would like to know if is possible (and how) to use the handset as a stereo digital recorder using the built in line in, or an external device (cheap if possible). The recording quality should be good, 44100 hertz at least. Thanks in advance.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Something like this?

I'm wondering also if it would work... 720p recording is pretty good as itself, getting full sound would make it awesome

thank you for the URL.
ther's an app that could record from this line-in microphone!?!
examples... I would like to recorder from my notebbok to my SGS through line-out & line-in (notebook headphones aux - SGS line-in), I have a cable with two jack, the first jack connected to the notebook, the other jack related to SGS

You will need more than that. SGS headphone port contains contacts for headset L/R out and mic-in/TVOut. You need to find a special 3.5mm plug that contains extra contact, in addition to the normal L and R contacts, to tap into the mic-in pin. And you will also need to have a circuitary to convert line-out audio level to mic-in audio level (very different).
As far as app goes, there should be a voice recorder app already on the phone.
maybe there's a stereo bluetooth microphone? this should work and might be better then a home-made line in cable. The microphone input for the handsfree (3,5 socket) is mono so there might be no option for stereo line-in.
Bass Guitar Amplifier to Android?
Hi,
I'm looking to record audio via a line between my Bass Amplifier (It has a Line Out port) and my Sony Xperia U (Standard Headphone Jack).
From what I read elsewhere, I need a TRRS adapter; these aren't easily available in my country (India). Could anyone point me towards alternate methods to acheive the same result?
Thanks.
EDIT: Alternatively, I'd also love it anyone could point me towards an application that works as an amplifier, that is, accepts direct input from a guitar.

same my phone ?

For absolutely FANTASTIC sound...

I know a lot of you are anxiously awaiting the voodoo port to our phone but I just wanted to let you know, in case you hadn't heard, that even our stock ROM supports external, driverless DACs and amps. I am using an ODAC and O2 headphone amp but I confirmed FiiO E7s also work so I presume any high-quality DAC will hook right up.
I just got an OTB host adaptor (micro to full size USB), plugged my DAC/amp into the USB and told the ROM (settings>Accessory> Audio Output mode (checked to use external speakers when plugged into a dock) and told the HDMI output to use stereo since I have only two ears and use headphones at work.
The sound, once you've bipassed the DAC internal to the phone is, as you might expect, exemplary- eerily crystal clear and quiet with outstanding dynamics. Since the ODAC is very efficient and the E7 is internally powered neither solution should have any major effect on battery life. Once you've heard an external DAC on this phone you'll feel as sad if you have to use the headphone jack again as you no doubt felt when you tried to use an old "tiny" phone as getting your GN2.
I was quite disappointed with the (for me) relatively poor pen support (I was expecting Newton - like integration), the missing multi-tasking, etc but this feature makes up for it all- if you like music, try it and I guarantee it'll bring a smile to your face whatever else is going on with your day. Poweramp and Music, by the way, support 320k VBR, FLAC and lossless AAC no problem- it just sounds wonderful.
Interesting! I've been really surprised at how great the sound is just using bluetooth audio in the car. Can you provide links/ specific models for these items? Found the FiiO E7 on Amazon, not bad pricewise. I have an OTG thingy I have used with my Nexus 7 but haven't tried it yet with the Note2. I'm using KKR headphones at home and could see going portable with the right setup. Also not above putting stuff together in a box, been playing with Arduino's lately.
Also, assuming the Note2 is the center of my future portable sound world (just got the 64G Sandisk at Best Buy) what format would you recommend for ripping my CDs? I brought some to work today to rip while working but haven't really looked at the various lossless solutions. I would like to get some kind of replaygain-like functionality. Currently using DeadBeef for my player but open to the best solution there too.
I use the fiio e17 . you need a great pair of cans to basically get the best sound.
(I am working on a project to create and 3d print a case that will contain the phone and the fiio. will keep you posted.
I finally tried connecting my Hot audio Dac destroyer (want to get a new dac) to this phone and it seems to work! Used it with my Akg q701's so I think I also need an external amp.
If the sound is coming out of the dac's headphone out is the internal dac of the phone bypassed or if not how do we do so?

This is relatively widely known, there is a USB audio thread here and it is mentioned in the Sound Quality thread here in the Note 2 subforums
I demonstrate it in the video below, and also did the same in my S3 video of the same kind. I'm using an RSA Intruder with mine, and get the Leckteron UHA-6S.MKII in the post in a few days to try out as well.

Audio Out via USB, alternative solutions?

Hi,
I got used to Samsungs CarDock mode which allowed to charge the phone and play music through USB port directly to my car stereo (no BT,:crying: ). I used the iBolt XProDock ( here ) which is amazing.
Now I have the M8 and figured out that analog output is not on board. So I am looking for a solution:
a) A BT-receiver for my car audio, optimally charged with max 5.0 V via USB plug)
b) Any digital to analog converter (dac?), but not too much gadgets to be supplied with power and cables
c) A second earphone-cable ?
d) A software solution to get analog sound from USB?
Any suggestions?

BT FM Transmitter it also charges phones at 1A
If you have an AUX input, get a stereoclip.. Uses APT-x codec for cd+ quality sound. Lasts about 6 hours on a charge.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Bluetooth...qid=1396896640&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+stereoclip
APT-X Bluetooth codec actually sounds better than USB analog audio output. No engine noise or light clicks/background noise going on.
And it's a much higher quality than normal Bluetooth.
BUT, some apps are not yet APT-X friendly.
Utter being one of them if I remember correct.

Looks cool, but needs a car power outlet which I don't want to block with this gadget. Since I use a plantronics BT-heaset for calls no handsfree functionality is required. But thnx for this!

Sorry, how could that affect the idea of APT-X in my car? The One M8 works with APT-X, and when the BT-receiver also does, shouldn't any music player work fine? I use Player Pro, and this app works fine over regular BT. Is there a difference with APT-X?

Like I said, "some apps".
Yes, APT-X is handled differently somehow.
All music players I've tried have worked just fine though.
I think it's more "voice controlled" bluetooth related apps that sometimes have problems.

ok, nothing that botheres me.
I will try the BT-Solution.
Update 15.04.2014:
I bought a tiny BT-Receiver / (even with transmitter, which I don't need), here.
Works like a charme. Thnx for your advice!
Apt-x
APT-X cannot be used with just any device. In order to get full potential from apt-X you need to have AAC audio files which the HTC one m8 support and will give you much better sound then mp3. Also APT-X can only be used if the speakers support apt-X as well as the phone. If your phone supports apt-X but your speaker or stereo does not then the APT-X will not work. There are only a handful of speakers and stereos that support APT-X. But like I said APT-X supports audio at a higher bit-rate, then standard Bluetooth, and higher then a docked iPod. For good audio performance you need both a phone/player, and speaker/stereo that support APT-X on both ends, and you might want to load some songs from a CD in AAC format onto your computer to give you that CD quality sound, or buy some songs from HDtracks.com , to play using APT-X. But also the HTC one M8 should have gotten the lollipop 5.1 update which supports usb audio/host. So I would check and see if you have lollipop 5.1

Stream to Chromecast and Chromecast audio at the same time

Chromecast audio now has multiroom support. I would like to figure out a way to add chromecast (video) to my audio group. Currently google says it's unsupported, but hoping for a work around. Like maybe have my chromecast "look" like its a chromecast audio to the app?
Any help is appreciated.
What would also be cool is if I could cast video to chromecast and audio from that video to chromecast audio. But this is a lot more difficult.

Here is a workaround for simulating 5.1 sound with Chromecast audio. Say, for example, you want an approximation of 5.1 sound for your home theater but you don't want to have wires connecting your 2 surround speakers to your receiver. For example, you don't want the speaker wires cluttering up your living room and you don't want to run them through the attic. Here is what you can do: buy 3 Chromecast audios for about $35 each. Buy two small amps for your surround speakers. For example, the Pyle 200 amps cost around $26 each. These small amplifiers will change your surround speakers from passive to active. One Chromecast audio device should be connected to your main receiver . Attach the 2 remaining chromecast audios to your Pyle amplifiers connected to the surround speakers. Each Pyle amplifier can actually run 2 speakers, but for this example we are using one amplifier for each of the surround speakers to minimize wire clutter. Short speaker wires will need to run between each of the Pyle amplifiers and and its surround speaker These speaker wires should be attached to the appropriate terminals (left or right) of the 2 amplifiers. In the Google Home app, first add all 3 devices. Then create a speaker group that includes all 3 devices. For example, we will call the new group MySimulated5.1. Attach your laptop, tablet, or phone to your TV HDMI-in by cable. Cast the audio to the MySimulated5.1. Be sure built-in TV speakers are off so that all sound comes from your external speakers.
This system will work because you are not casting to both Chromecast and Chromecast Audio. Your video will have HDMI quality. to the extent it is supported by the source device. You can use Microsoft Dolby 5.1 test on YouTube to verify that all your speakers are working. If everything is set up correctly, your left front speaker will play audio intended for left front and left surround. Center speaker will function as usual. Right front speaker will play audio intended for right front and right surround. Everything played on right front and left front will also play on right surround and left surround speakers, respectively. The system will not be true 5.1. However, the surround speakers will reinforce lateralization of audio and improve immersion.

Has the Red Magic 3 a dedicated audio DAC ?

PowerAmp and Neutron show selectable options for Hi-Res audio,so I assume that the device is capable for Hi-Res output.
The Red Magic 3 also supports DTS:X/DTS 7.1 and 3D Sound technologies out of the box.
However, unlike with the ZTE Axon 7 release, there's nothing to find on the www about the Magic 3 having a seperate DAC for it's advanced audio stuff....
Does anyone knows if the device has a dedicated auidio DAC ?
you can enable DTS when headset connected, under sound effects

yes
That setting is not available on the EU rom......but anyway, also the Chinese rom doesn't show if there's a seperate DAC for Hi-Res audio...
From what I can tell it has an amazing headphone amp and is using the stock Qualcomm dac.
If only the stock Qualcomm DAC is used for audio processing,Qualcomm did a great job with this little piece of hardware,as the sound quality is outstanding, even when compared to my Axon 7......
I've written to support asking that same question, will come back here if and when I get an answer.
