Install Pie without unlocking bootloader? - LG V40 Questions & Answers

I just got my V40 today (Sprint model) and it is still on 8.1
Is there a way to flash Pie from another carrier without unlocking the bootloader?
I was able to do this with lgup on the V35 but don't see a way using that method on the v40

Unlock bootloader on Pie?

Hello everyone,
I see that there isn't a way to unlock bootloader in Pie. The only way is to rollback to Oreo and will be unlocked by cmd commands or is there another way?
After that can I go back to Pie with bootloader unlocked or no?

Yes, you can update OTA to pie afterwards.

Sim unlock doesn't change the fact that it's still a Sprint device, what i would do is either wait for cross flashing to be a thing and simply flash US Unlocked Pie....or Pay for bootloader unlock, flash TWRP provided by SGCMarkus and run Oreo GSI until a proper Pie GSI base is released that will work on the V40....
Has anyone heard anything from sprint about the pie update

It will pop up here! But if you're set for auto update, you'll probably have your update before they write about it.

"In a couple of weeks (educated guess)" according to Sprint support...
Still no word on when the Sprint v40 is getting pie
Knowing Sprint it'll be when the new android os is released

Could you explain how you did that? I have an unlocked Sprint V40 that I'm trying to use on Verizon. I downloaded the Verizon KDZ but was unable to flash it with LGUP 1.14.

Ohhh I didn't realize my V40 bootloader has to be unlocked before I can flash anything with LG UP. I think that's what was tripping me up.

How to root the European LG V40 without issues?

Hey all! I'm wondering if there's a straightforward guide to unlock, flash TWRP and root (magisk) on the European LG V40. The fora I read are mostly about the US model, and I read many issues with partitions and the enforcing thing. What does the enforcing mean exactly?
I just want to have magisk with root on stock rom. I guess I won't be able to have OTA updates when done that, right?
So if you have an European LG V40 could you maybe help me to successfully root the V40? If so, I'm gonna buy one (wanted to be sure first).
Thanks!
That I'm aware of the EBW V40 from Europe is the only one with official unlock support from LG...

Simply use fastboot to flash TWRP .-. since you have access to Fastboot out of box...also SGC Marcus has the EBW European variant as well

Then it sounds like either 1) how you're trying to go to fastboot is wrong, or 2) you don't actually have the same version...

Is your's a dual sim model? I've heard that can be an issue as I think there are very few roms that support dual sim. Otherwise, yes, should be able to flash whatever you want, except of course t-mobile rom.
the lgv35 file works on the vv40 because they have the same chip; sdm845. You'll also see a v35_engineering_abl bootloader mentioned, it too works on the v40, but it won't actually boot the device unless you're running Pie.
One thing about the v40, with the firehose available, it's pretty hard to brick.
cheers
