Hello all,
I followed the guides on here, and downloaded the samsung firmwares from samsmobile. The first time I didn't read correctly and downloaded android vs 9, which I was already on, and flashed successfully. So I know the flashing itself is being performed [hopefully] correctly.
However, when I went back and downloaded the version 8, [N950U1UEU5CRL2_N950U1OYM5CRL2_TMB.zip & N950U1UEU5CRK1_N950U1OYM5CRK1_TMB & N950U1UEU5DSD4_N950U1OYM5DSD4_TMB ] the phone seems to flash successfully [ according to ODIN ] yet, it stays stuck at the SAMSUNG Galaxy Note8 black boot screen.
I attempted flashing 4 more times, redownloading the zip file each time just in case of corruption, yet still this same result for all but the version 9 firmware.
Anyone have any suggestions?
If you upgraded to Pie and bootloader changed, you cant go back to Oreo. Now if the version of Pie you went to has the same bootloader version as the Oreo you want then you can go back. But lets say you went to bootloader S5 or U5 and last Oreo was S4 or U4 you cant go back.

Your good to go back to Oreo. Just do a factory wipe first then flash with Odin again. Sometimes going back to Oreo from Pie causes issues..sometimes not always. It happened to me when I went back to Oreo and used Home_csc to save data.

Had me worried for a moment there lol. Saw that issue about the bootloader in a few other threads, and thought I'd eliminated that as a possibility given the numbers involved in the filenames. I <think> that you just confirmed the same.
Not sure how to do a factory wipe with my phone stuck at the boot loader screen though. It doesn't even want to boot into safe mode.
I suppose I could flash pie back on, do the wipe, then go back to oreo?
edit:
So went back to pie, did a factory reset, then attempted to throw oreo back on aaaaaand, it's once more frozen at the boot screen :/

Try going to recovery mode and click reboot.. if that doesn't work format from there and reboot
To get into recovery, boot to download, press volume up. Then do the 3button combination again as if booting to download. The very moment screen goes black keep power button pressed and home button.. but move to volume up.This will get you into stock recovery. Wipe from there.

By home button, do you mean the bixby button below the volume keys, or the invisible home button by pressing the center of the screen at the bottom?
Either way, attempted both and doesn't seem to want to get into recovery mode. just keep hitting the black boot screen time and time again from the download mode.
I'll keep attempting, perhaps my timing is the issue.
Edit: Ok, after a quick google search [all hail the oracle]it's the bixby button. Not great news, as this still doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
Putting it back on version 9, then seeing if that allows me to get into recovery.
Ohhhh kay,
threw 9 back on, this let me get into the recovery mode. Used the same methodology I had been attempting with the 8 firmware, so I know that I was using the correct set of keys. Did the cache and factory format, then went straight back into download mode and threw 8 on.
Back to the endless boot screen
Perhaps I'm odin'ing wrong? I only have the AP box checked when I'm doing 8 and 9 flashes, perhaps it's different for 8 than it is 9?
Im so sorry didnt mean home was messing around with Note FE when I sent message and it has home button..again sorry.

Dont know why your only flashing AP in Odin. When you download the firmware you have to extract it and you should have BL..AP..CP..CSC..HOME_CSC depending on the firmware you loaded. To keep data put HOME_CSC in CSC spot. But if you want a wipe just use csc

Apparently I read an outdated guide, or just an unclear one. I'll chalk it up to inexperience.
Whelp, looks like the issue was found. I appreciate you assisting me through this.
Adding in the BL/CP/CSC as well as the AP in Odin gave success!
Now I can start the hours of tweaking and app downloads lol.
Thanks again mate.
No problem at all, glad you're up and running.

Phone: GT-I9305 Optus
OS: Stock 4.1.2
Problem: I decided to root my phone, mainly to be able to use Titanium backup, and followed one of the guides here.
Odin did its thing nice and easy, phone rebooted and installed CF-Root just like it was supposed to.
However, on the reboot after install, it asked for my password (Device is encrypted). No big deal, enter password.....didn't work. I've tried multiple times, and it's not accepting my password at all.
Did I just brick my phone? Is there a way to fix this?
Edit: The phone now says I have seven more tries before it erases everything on it. Honestly, I'm not that fussed about having to re-install everything, I just want to be able to use my phone.
Edit 2: Tried going into the debug/reset menu (Vol Up+Home+Power) All I get is stuck at the S3 splash screen, with a VERY tiny red '!' at the top left corner.
Try the process again but don't let odin reboot your phone. After it flashes cf-root, make sure the reboot option is not thicked, press home button +Volume up +power at the same time. You should get straight in to recovery.

As the title says the phone has not been rooted and has bricked itself. It can get to the download screen but that's about it. Odin doesn't recognize it and not sure how to flash the stock rom back on it to get it back up and running. Anyone run into this issue before.? See image for what shows up on the screen. Thanks.
update: was able to hav odin recognize the phone. I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2703006 with both the .pit and without plus the 4 files with no luck. still just restarts to same screen.

Somethings not right. If you flash the pit file make sure you flash all 4 files. I dont see a reason why it shouldnt work. If it still has that after you flash boot into recovery and factory reset. It should work. Its easy to soft brick than to hard brick. As long as you can get into download mode you should be fine.

Last time i couldnt get it to recognize i downloaded the latest samsung mobile drivers and tried every usb port. I also gave it a break for about 10 or 15 minutes with the phone off and it worked too. Dont know why but it did. Hope that helps. Cheers mate

It goes straight to download screen or before this you got option to press volume up or down? Did you try to get to recovery mode by pressing combination of volume up , home button and power button then let all go when samsung logo show up with little blue writing on left top of phone. If you get to recovery try to clean cache. If you can't and after you try to flash back to stock still going straight to download mode must be hardware issue.
Why do the newer users call anything that doesn't boot properly "Bricked ?"
Believe me you'll know when and if your ever able to successfully achieve it....
Your not even rooted..lmfao
Hello Fellow Straight Talk S5 Users!!
I have some exciting news!
Basically our devices are fully functioning developer model Verizon S5's. What this means for us is this:
1. Your standard root method and recovery flashing method thru Odin will work. I will address how to do this in post #2
2. Unlike our Verizon or AT&T counterparts, we do not have a "Locked" bootloader, so we do not need apps like flashfire, flashify or SafeStrap. We can access our download mode and custom recovery the normal way, which I will address in post #2 as well.
3. Most Verizon S5 roms will work on our phone. (I only say most simply because I haven't tried them all, lol!) As well as many Intarnational roms, thanks to a patch made by my good friend @jrkruse and a small mod from myself. I will go over flashing custom roms in post #3.
4. We can create and restore back ups from our custom recovery so it is fairly safe for us to get a little flash happy. Just ask me, I flashed and restored like 4 different roms in one day, lol! I will go over backing up and restoring in post #4
5. Most developments for the Samsung S5 will work for our S5. We are actually very fortunate to have our devices. We basically have dev model phones for about half the price of what verizon and att charge.
I will put links to roms, recoveries, patches and tools needed to do all of this in there respective posts and centrally in post # 5.
Thanks to XDA for the platform to share what we do with the world. I take no credit for any roms recoveries or tools found here in this thread. I will give credit to the original devs as I share links to their work, THANK THEM they have done and continue to do a lot for us, and ask very little in return. I especially want to thank @malbert16442 and @jrkruse for there help, again you guys do a lot for the community without asking for much in return, thank you.
respect and education, respect and education my friends.
thank you
In doing this you void any warrant and accept all responsibility for anything that happens to your device. And your device will be wiped and factory reset.
To root your Straight talk s5 you'll need to go get some files. These are the links for what you need to get:
1. Odin (pc only) *http://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.10.6.zip
2.TWRP Recovery *https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys5qualcomm.html
3. SuperSu 2.46 https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/
4. Samsung Kies ( if you need drivers for your phone) http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/
Connect your phone to your pc. Copy the SuperSu file you downloaded to the root of your SD card. Once it has copied, immediately disconnect your phone from your pc.
Right click on the Odin file you just downloaded and select "run as administrator"
Once Odin has fully launched, make sure to UNCHECK the auto reboot option. Then click the "AP" button on the right side in Odin. Navigate to the TWRP 3.0 file you just downloaded and select it. Make sure that your TWRP file populates in the window next to the "AP" button.
Now you need put your phone into "download mode". To do this:
1. Power your phone off. Once it is completely off
2. Press and hold volume down + home button +
Power buttons at the same time.
3. You'll see a screen asking if you want to go
Into "download load" press volume up to
confirm download mode.
4. You should now see the little green Android
Guy, and it should say "downloading.... please
Do not turn off"
Now you should connect your phone to your pc. If your phones drivers are installed correctly, com and a random number should show up in the first spot in the upper left corner of Odin.
Once your phone shows up in Odin and you have your TWRP file in the AP spot in Odin, click the "start" button in the lower right corner of Odin. The whole process should take like 10 seconds. If Odin was successful the spot where your phone shows up in Odin should turn green and say reset.
Now disconnect your phone and remove the battery. Leave it out for a count of 5 seconds. Put the battery back in.
Now you need to boot into recovery. To do this your phone must (should still) be powered off:
1. Press and hold Volume up button + Home button + Power button at the same time until you feel the little wake vibration.
2. You should see the "Team Win" logo on your
Screen. The next screen should show a bunch
Of options.
3. Select the option that says install.
4. Click the top of the screen where it says "
Storage and make sure it is set to "ext SD"
5. Now find your SuperSu file you downloaded
And copied over earlier. Click on it. It will take
You to a screen that says "swipe to flash" at the
Bottom of the screen.
6. Swipe to flash.
7. Once it is done flashing, press the back button
Until you are at the screen you started on.
8. Select the "reboot" option, then
9. Select the "reboot system" option.
Your phone should reboot and be factory reset.
Complete your normal set up and you now have a fully rooted straight talk galaxy s5 w/ custom Recovery! Enjoy!
So, now that you are rooted and on the stock touchwiz, the first thing you'll want to do is create back up (some will call this a "nandroid" back up). This is how you make a back up:
1. Power off your phone. Once it is completely shut down
2. Press and hold the Volume up + home + power at the same time until you feel that little wake vibrate. You
should now be in Recovery mode.
3. Select the option that says "back up". Make sure that Dalvik, Boot, System and efs are all checked, at least for
this first back up.
4. Swipe across the bottom to start the back up.
*****This may take 5 minutes or so, so don't get to antsy and try to restart or do anything else with your phone while *****it is backing up. That would be bad.*****
5. Once it is done, press the back button again until you are at the recovery home screen.
6. Select "reboot"
7. Select "reboot system"
Boom! You just created your stock rooted back up. Always back up before you flash a mod or a new rom!
Now if you ever get in trouble, like a bootloop or system crashes, you can always boot into recovery and restore your stock rooted back up. Here's how:
1. Power down your phone. Once it is completely shut down.
2. Volume up + Home + power to boot into recovery
3. Select restore
4. Select storage at the top and make sure you select "ext sd" then go back.
5. Select the twrp folder, then select the back ups folder.
*****Your back up name will start with the date you made the back up.*******
6. Select your back up
7. Swipe across the bottom to restore your back up.
******Here again this could take 5 to 10 minutes. So sit still and have a drink or a smoke and LET IT DO IT'S THING. do ******not stop it, shut it off or interrupt it for any reason.******************************************* ************
8. Once it is done push the back button untill you are at the recovery home page.
9. Select "reboot"
10. Select "reboot system"
If all went well, you should be back on a freshly rooted stock system. Enjoy
I always back up any rom I flash that is working well, that way I can restore it at a later time if need be.
Here is a quick rom install tutorial and review:

You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ent/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-t3237502
You will want the one that says G900* Unified-GSM*
Make a back up first.
Then flash the rom. !! do not reboot when it is done!!
Once the rom is finished flashing go back and flash jrkruse patch.
Once jrkruse patch is done flashing then reboot
Ok so grab the cm13 rom entitled g900* unified gsm... got it. but where is the jrkruse patch? That thread is 594 pages long!
This is jrkruse patch. Download from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24421527759882706
But if you are patient I will cook one up specifically for straight talk.
Remember to back up your stuff first
I will wait as patiently as possible and look forward to it! Thank you!
well I waited about 10 minutes before I got so antsy that I backed up, wiped and installed c13 and patch. didn't work, had no cellular data or connection. also, he phone recognized itself as a g900f.

I wonder why I had no cell service
i rooted with Odin fine, but when I try to use Odin for the twrp recovery I can't find the file that is saved on my desktop. do I need to change the name of the image?
I see there are a few different patches related to certain baseband versions. I wonder if I need a different one. I've flashed so many roms at this point I'm not sure what I have for a modem, baseband, or anything important!
I've installed maverick rom with the patch... wow I love it!
It looks like Wanam doesn't work with this roms firmware. But so what, maverick rocks! I would like to see 4g or lte up in the top bar though. That is my only complaint.
Kxhan15, where are you? Are international Roms that will work for our phone with the patch any g903f rom?
So at this point, I can make phone calls and send text messages but no pictures and no online. The phone tells me my data is turned off. I know it is turned on there's just something not right
Hi all,

Downloads firmware to device
Reboots
Shows Android dude with "Installing update"
Stops half way through
Shows Android dude with "Erasing"
Disappears after few seconds
Reboots
Nothing is changed. Same as before the whole process...

Make sure you uncheck auto reboot in Odin! Do not allow it to reboot the phone! Flash the stock firmware again and after it says success unplug the phone and immediately press and hold the volume down button and power button at the same time and when the screen comes back on select factory reset and after its finished the phone will reboot on it's own and you're done it should work correctly.

That's because you are trying to to root it I'm guessing? You either flashed the wrong kernel, or you actually did not turn on oem unlock in developer options. You'll need to restore it back to stock and then turn on oem unlock then flash a kernel/recovery and then retry what you're trying to do.

What's wrong with your phone booting normal? I don't understand what you're trying to do.. What's the CSC have to do with anything?

Sorry I don't have time to help you work through this. But you're not bricked. Do the process again. Try switching up your usb ports and cables. Try clicking the bootloader check and try loading the csc file when you flash everything. And hold the buttons longer than you think you should to return to download mode. Galaxy Note 8 screen is normal. You are likely already rooted and can get away with only redoing the second part.

You've tried all these things? You've restarted your phone? It seems you are really pretty close and could just power through. But I don't see any reason you can't return to stock. That may take you longer if you don't have the file and if you don't know how to get back.

Thats what i did.
1rst. Flash system tar. + Pit
I wait, until the process says FAILED.
After this failed message my phone just stuck on Download mode and dont restart by itself. I decide to use combo to power it off and turn it on again into download mode.
2nd.
I place the other 3 files in odin And flash it, following the steps from Samfail thread.
Reboot and get stuck on this screen now what can be ?

EDIT: also pic 1 is showing what happens with a failed part1 flash.

I would Odin back to stock and start over. When it happened to me I had to use regular Odin to flash it. And then I started over and got it to work.

Still trying to flash rev2.5 maybe thats where i went wrong? Its too late now. I can only get into upload and download mode. Trying to flash stock but having fail issues in reg odin and comsy. Im actually so lost now that I dont even know what to flash. Bricked? Anyone have any ideas? Ive tried everything i have seen on this thread and others with no luck. My phone displays all of the same pictures as in page 1. Im have ATT if that helps.
Thanks and sorry if i misread something to get to where i am now. Ive been doing different root methods since i had a droid x. Never had this issue before when flashing with odin. Ive always worked my way out. Maybe i need a break.....

now, after trying to get back into download mode and the samsung logo popped up and was flashing from light to dark. after about 5 minutes it said "android is starting", a few minutes later it went to a charging screen. now i cant get anywhere... lol..
battery died
Charge the phone leave it in charger.
Get into download mode and flash your stock image with Prince comsy Odin with the data bootflag and the bootloader flag ticket, you can do this by adding a 1 in the .ini file. Flash the stock image and then reboot
Then if you want try to flash again the 2.5 version
If you are an unlocked carrier make sure to flash the csc file I posted in the samfail thread somewhere
I had the same problem you had until I flashed the unlocked csc file

Same here but WORSE
The same thing happened to me except mine doesn’t have that message on second screen that yours does it reboots and system mount failure and to top it all off IT ENABLED FRP LOCK SECRURE FOLDER ALL THAT how can I possibly. Bypass this so I can reflash the stock firmware I do root phones as a side hustle I’m pretty well known I’m my town for being the tech guy. This isn’t my phone but I DO have the email and password I just can’t disable the frp is there a way UCSB deactivate it on my google account perhaps?
