Quote to fix my 6T (Get ready to laugh) - OnePlus 6T Guides, News, & Discussion

So my 6T quit reading sim cards, after about 20 times trying to reboot and install the sim and switch slots etc, the tray broke and the sim fell into the phone. I WAS able to dig it out and put the SIM back into her G6 (my girlfriend liked my 7 pro and was gonna use my 6t I had as spare)
I gave up after factory resetting, flashing the ROM etc. and decided to send it in. I had a feeling they MIGHT try to hit me for a new motherboard because I used a pick to get the SIM card out (I had no choice, she needs the phone for work) and I would have been OK with paying the 150 dollars or whatever. Look at this comprehensive parts list. I'm pretty sure it's a new phone.

Seems a little high considering you can get certified refurbished for about $400.
I got mine used in pristine condition for $350 (8/128 midnight black).
That is a pretty extensive list they made though.( You even scratched the sapphire camera lens ?)

lol no, everything worked fine aside from the sim card. phone had normal wear and tear on it.

I would get it fixed. Much better deal than buying a new one :silly:

Not sure what the internal Sim card contacts look like but maybe you could watch a tear down video and get your own repair kit. It might be more minor than you realize. "Jerry Rigs Everything" is pretty great.

Lol, that's an interesting quote...

here's the device that had to get every last screw replaced because it's "damaged"
lol

they're very nice!

let me know if you guys want me to keep you posted on what transpires for future cases.
got a call today, he heard i was unhappy, and asked what he can do to make it better. asked him to sell me another motherboard and i'd be very happy. waiting for a call back.

So I really can't reveal how much, but they're offering me a refurbished 6T at a very, very steep discount.

Lol u think they come on here and look at users price quotes? I'm sure anyone can get one for the same price they're offering u. The 7 is out their just dropping what they can because they'll have a large influx of refurbished 6ts. It should cost 20-$30 to get your slot fixed contact a real cell phone technician or do it yourself it's not rocket science

This is very interesting and providers great insight to those tear down videos. They could use this to help determine the real cost somewhat to build the phone.
Motherboard, camera, glass...expected to be expensive due to complexity of manufacturing and technology...the .05 cent screen protector...haha.

I didn't laugh BTW..

Did anyone engrave their phone?

I just ordered my Nexus One at its exorbitant price of $529 and almost chose the engrave my phone feature but didnt really want to wait extra time and it won't be seen anyhow.... I was going to put 'iPhone Killa' and maybe 'F$%k Apple!'.....
Anyways, just wondering if you engraved your phone and what did you put?
i was going to put "touch me...thats what she said" (corny i kno) but reading through the disclaimers on the site, i decided not to
I was going to engrave it as well, but decided not to because of the non-refundable part.
Nope. I was thinking about selling my N1 in a year or so, and I didnt think the buyer would appreciate the engrave.
I almost did, but I bought mine on launch day and feared the engraving would delay my overnight shipment.
Come to find out, it's not an engraving, but a silk-screen type process... also doesn't delay the shipping of your phone.
Now that I have it, I'm glad I didn't do it.
I went for it. *shrug* It was free.

You think that there would actually be someone looking for a second hand year-or-two old phone that would actually pay more than the cost of SHIPPING for it? Not worth selling!
I purchased my N1 on Craigslist for $325.00 about a month ago. The reason it was so cheap? "Michael & Sasha - Always" was engraved on the back.
I personally don't care what the phone says on the back but I'm sure w few people will which means the phone will be harder to sell in the long run.

Or atleast take the phone back
anyways: i hear that the most didn't engrave it at the last minute. Is it because all of you plan to sell your nexus?
I got zKiLLA put on mine
There was a long ass thread dedicated to this back in early January when the phone was released... You're exactly 5 months late to the day.
well im sorry for the useless thread then, but I didn't buy my nexus one in january, i bought it in june
did not engrave incase i decided to re sell.. the nice thing about a no contract plan
wish i had gotten "not the droid you are looking for"
i think that wouldn't have hurt the resale

[Q] Switch sim card from scratched note 4

So i just got my note 4 yesterday and I love it been an android user since the og droid. Anyways here's the deal. I didn't have money to get a screen protector since I didn't get paid till today. Thought I would baby the phone till I could order one from Amazon but today i scratched it by accidentally putting it in my pocket with my old phone still in there( baggy sweats so I didn't notice).
Well I preordered a note 4 but went in to another store and they had one in Stock. Just checked my email and they just shipped my preorder. Could I open the package and switch sim cards without it triggering a change in phones? It's not a terrible scratch but it's an inch long and it's driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any help. Just switched from Verizon so I don't know how tmobile works.

All the phones have embedded IMEI code numbers in the phone itself as well
as on the bar code label and that's the very first thing Verizon or or any other
carrier checks when you turn in a phone or return a phone for any reason.
If the IMEI number is different than what they expect it to be you will get
yourself in a lot of trouble, they will either not refund your money or bill
you for the full price of the phone if it hasn't been fully paid off already.
There is no way to change or alter the IMEI number.
Good luck!
hmm please clarify if I'm wrong but you want to swap your scratched phone and put the scratched phone in the new Note 4's box and return it. Am I correct?

As bad as it sounds yes I'm trying to do that. I sort of feel justified to do that because when opening the account they ported my number to my wife's phone and i had no cell service.
I heard if i put a screen protector on it itmight hide the scratch a little bit but it's killing me that my 2 day old phone has a big scratch on it.
Ouch, you're just begging for an onslaught of hostile replies, aren't you?
Here's the thing, you can't switch boxes, you can't switch phones in boxes, you can't switch IMEI's, and you're probably not going to be able to return a phone with a scratched screen, but ethics aside, there's always a very slim chance if the rep is distracted. You could always try faking Tourette Syndrome if you're really that desperate, but it seems like a lot of work for the slim chance of a relatively small payoff.
The screen protector they will almost for sure take off before scanning the phone in, but that idea did make me lol (thanks for that). You might have to live with it or hope that it isn't too noticeable with the protector on and use it that way. Don't mess with switching phones though if you want to avoid embarrassment in the store.

Glad i was able to make you laugh lol. I was wondering about the screen protector for myself not to notice, not tmobile since it looks like i have to live with the scratch. I think i notice it more because I'm looking at every pixel of that beautiful screen. Too bad i didn't sign up for jump so i can trade it in for the note 5.
Ok here's my last resort before I'm stuck with it lol. Wonder if i can return it before the 14 day grace period is up and just get the nexus 6 when it comes out. Has anyone done this successfully before? I know I'll have to pay a $50 restocking fee.

The issue isn't returning and waiting for the Nexus, you can always do that, the issue is trying to return a phone with a scratch on the screen. The re-stock fee is just for opening the package, it doesn't cover damage. So really, the best answer you're going to get is either try to sell it on eBay - if there's no financing on the phone you could likely get close to what you paid, especially if you're willing to sell internationally, or, just take it back into the T-Mobile store and hope they don't notice. If you're really that determined and they refuse it, try taking it to other stores. It's not really ethical advice, but that's really your only option. Personally I would be way too mortified at the idea that i'm going to walk in, look the rep in the eye and expect him/her to take the phone with the scratch, it would look pretty shady. I would just sell it on eBay. But obviously it's up to you.
you scratched it, you own it...coming here asking for ways to pull a fast one isn't welcome, nor wanted...
Well, as entertaining as it would be to watch the onslaught here, this thread is going to be closed before it gets out of hand.
That being said, what you are wanting to do is not only immoral, but also illegal and unethical. No matter what screw ups you had to endure when they swapped your devices there is no justification for what you are attempting. This is equivalent to buying a new car, wrecking it, and returning it to the lot claiming this is how you received it.
You damaged the device, intentionally or not, and you must deal with the consequences of that action. Your carrier can hold you liable for the cost of both devices, in full, if you actually attempted to pursue this, not to mention having legal grounds to get you for fraud.

[Q] I got a 50$ N6 but need advise

Ok, So, I found this girl on my local face book and she sold me a Nexus 6 that has a shattered screen for 50$ I couldn't pass up the deal and I did contact Motorola who said that they would replace the screen for 175$ So, I am getting a great deal. The kicker is that I have no clue if it is reported stolen or what. She let me come to her house and assured me it wasn't and that she just didn't have the money to pay the 175$ for the insurance. Anyways, what do you guys think? should I send it in to Motorola? Can they keep the phone if there is something shady going on with it? It is from T Mobile from what she said. But I didn't get anything but the phone. I do have some sign of life. I just plugged it in and a green light came on up top but I have no screen action. The screen is shattered but the rest of it is in excellent condition.
As of now I have the One Plus One and I am debating on which phone is the keeper if everything does work out with it. Is there anyone else coming from the OPO who has an opinion of the 2 phones?
Any advise on my situation is highly appreciated!
Motorola won't keep it, they're not the mobile phone police.
With that said, who is this idiot girl? Why on earth would she sell a $650 phone, even with a crack screen for $50?
That's sounds shady if you ask me. Check the IMEI online and see if it might be black listed. If nothing cones out its at least worth fixing because that's a steal.
---------- Post added at 10:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ----------
Also T-Mobile will black list phones if they aren't gift l bought out right and the account holder doesn't pay for it.
Even with a crack screen and bad IMEI number it's still worth more then the $50 he paid for it.

I don't know why she would do it but I do know a good deal when I see it. LOL! The digitizer isn't working so there is no way for me to get an IMEI # unless I open the back? I hate to invest in the new screen and it be blacklisted. Does anyone know if the IMEI # is located in the device if I took the back cover off? I don't know of another way to check unless I go ahead and fork over the $ for the new screen.

I just ran through a teardown of the N6, and it doesn't appear as if there are any stickers on the inside that would list the IMEI on the inside of the device. It would seem that the only way to know for sure would be to take the gamble on having the screen fixed.
Personally I'd get it repaired and take the gamble. It is very suspicious that she didn't give you the included box, if she did buy it what good would she have by keeping the box?
$50 is not that bad and the repair cost isn't too bad either. Take the gamble and see what happens.

Repair it because its worth the risk. Worst case she senario you will need a new imei but we aren't allow to discuss pushing new imei numbers to black listed phones on XDA but a quick google search could help you should you need it.

Well, Great news so far. I checked the IMEI # from the tray and it came back legit. So, I am winning so far! Thanks for all of the advise from everyone.
Now, I need to decide if I want to keep the Nexus over my OPO. I love my OPO but have been having an itchy finger to get the N6...We shall see!
Thanks again everyone!
DUDE!!! I have to share this...I called Motorola and told them that I got the phone from someone who didn't want to pay the insurance to fix it. They ran the IMEI # and I pre paid 175$ on a credit card and they sent me a new nexus 6 in the box with everything! Unopened!!! All I have to do is send the old phone back within a few days and I have just gotten a new N6 for 225$!!!Ya baby!!!
I couldn't honestly decide on what phone to keep between the Oneplus one and the N6 so I posted both on Craigslist and I said the first one that sold is the one I will get rid of and keep the other. Within 15 minutes of my post someone bought my One plus 1. So, fate has it that I have an N6! Now time to get this puppy flashed and dialed in. Thanks again !

I came from a OnePlus One, you won't regret it. Yeah the N6 is more wide but you'll get used to it, once you use the N6 you'll wonder why every other phone wasn't wide to begin with. OnePlus One does have better battery life but thats not to say that the N6 can't survive a full day without charging.
But congratulations, nice to see Motorola's customer service is quite nice.

Yeah your name sounds pretty familiar. I missed the Nexus community and it felt more true to "AOSP" as OPO ROMs/kernels heavily relied upon CM as they had a number of device specific code/commits.
I'm glad you're enjoying the device, a lot of N5 -> OPO -> N6 converts. I probably will skip on the OnePlus Two (or whatever its called).
I made my own custom ROM if you wanted to give it a try, if not then no bad feelings

How easy is the moto care process?

I cracked my nexus 6 on the corner yesterday. I bumbled it while getting out of the car. I thought I saved it as I was able to handle it all the way down to about 2-3 inches from the ground but couldn't fight it off. It finally left my hand and dropped corner first onto the concrete. The tempered glass looks to be holding it together but it's a hideous sight so I plan on using my moto care to get it replaced. What's the process as I've never used it before.
Well so far this process has been a huge pain in the ass. I've been on the phone for about 1.5-2 hours. They can't find my IMEI number in the system.
first they asked me to email the receipt and they would call me back. I asked them why I couldn't just give them the order number of the phone, or the moto care contract number. They said they could do that. After that they still couldn't find my information so they had to escalate me. Once escalated they still couldn't find my information but they said to give them 24 hours.
I'll update more as the saga continues. So far NOT satisfied......
^^^ this is not encouraging to hear after purchasing MotoCare with my N6.
Hope it works out well for you! :fingers-crossed:

so far the update is that the IMEI is not in their system and they have to get it updated in their database properly. They said it could take them some time. Definitely does not sound promising. Thank god the phone is still functional. Perhaps you can be pro-active and get them to make sure your phone is in the system properly so when the time comes, replacing your device will be much easier.

Thank god the phone is still functional. Perhaps you can be pro-active and get them to make sure your phone is in the system properly so when the time comes, replacing your device will be much easier.

Which is hilarious because they sold you the device and I'm pretty sure require the IMEI to purchase moto care. I had the same problem on 2 separate devices from them. Make sure they transfer your moto care to your replacement as well (they won't).

Thanks for the update. Would've been nice to hear better things. Maybe posting to their Twitter account will get more action, and more attention, once it's out there for more then just the community here to see.
I did check my Certificate of Coverage that was emailed after Moto Care purchase and my IMEI is listed as "Serial Number". A call to them to confirm might be a good idea.

Looks like they got everything squared away. Hopefully they got the right phone coming to me. I'll be pissed if they mistakenly send me a blue 32gb. They said replacement should be here 4-5 business days.

Wouldn't want to even think about that. I waited very patiently for my white 64gb, I'd be rather disheartened if they messed up the replacement. Glad to hear it sounds like it's all good, for now... fingers crossed that the worse is over for you.

Thanks, my recommendation to everyone with moto care is to be proactive and make sure your phones are in the system properly so when the time comes everything is smooth.
My experience was totally painless with motocare.
I purchased my n6 off of Craigslist. When I got home, I dropped my phone on the tile floor and cracked the screen. I signed up for motocare, and within 12 hours I got an email conformation everything was set up.
I started a claim online, and a new phone was shipped overnight to me.
I packaged up my old phone and overnighted it back to Motorola.

Did you get a brand new phone with accessories? I just received my replacment phone and just the phone came in a bubble wrap package. no screen film on the front or the camera. There are minute (very very small) grooves on the bottom of the phone. You can't see them but you can feel them. These don't exist on my previous phone. For some reason I expected a brand new phone when using moto care

I believe the phone I received was refurbished. It did not have any film on the screen. However it came in a new box with the paperwork and fast charger.

Sim Tray stuck on Oneplus 5 one plus 5

HI,
So I entered two nano sims in the Oneplus 5. One was normal and other was modified (chip replaced on empty sim case with double sided tape firmly).
Now the tray is stuck. I think the outer modified sim has expanded a bit and wont come out. I have been adviced to take the phone to service center (by customer care).
Now I want to know if any of you have had sim tray stuck issues and if you resolved it in anyway? I have seen the teardowns where they say to remove the tray before hand.
Kinda worried that scratch free phone will get roughed up by those service centre technicians...
No offense, but weren't you concerned that something like this might happen while you were actually doing that stupid stuff?

Yeah now that I think about it. I wanted to make a payment which needs a one time password on mobile no. I didn't have other device handy...

Hmmm well, I think I get it. Anyway, I'm based in India and I've sent my brother's OnePlus x in for a service and the device was relatively unscathed. Tho I admit the experience might wary. I suggest you pack the device up nicely if you've got to send it off long. Hope everything goes well. Don't do stuff you're not sure off. It might make things worse. Play it safe, mate.

Do I have to send it off? I am going to visit the service centre there are two nearby. One is like a franchise kind of and other one is Oneplus Exclusive one. I am going for latter tomorrow.
I did try to pry it tray out. But I made sure only touch the tray itself. It doesn't come out more than a mm or so. I feel so stupid...damn not one scratch on the device and now this.

I only said that in case you didn't have one nearby, as in my case, the nearest one was 800km away. But don't worry, it'll be okay. Just hope for the best. And leave it alone till it's done. I did that mistake with another device, my kld Nexus tab and managed get the Sim tray stuck neither in or out. Apparently it broke the internal clips and it made matters worse. So leave it be and let the trained personnel handle and pray it's not major. Hope everything goes ok.
