Anyone in Canada bought it? How was your experience? - Nubia Red Magic 3 Questions & Answers

I understand it comes as import from the US, site is the same as for US buyers and price is quoted in USD.
Anything bad to report with customs, any extras fees or hassles?
Thanks in advance

You will have taxes and duty. I paid about 120 to DHL.

So when it says free shipping it does not include duty?
Also, extra 13% regular taxes on top?
Ended up for what total for you? (I imagine it will depend on the USD)
Thanks

807 plus the 120 to DHL for taxes and duty. But it now depends on the dollar. Can't remember the rate at that time. Was only about a month ago

It costs $27 dollars to ship a small flat rate box to Canada from the US.
I paid $485 for my phone.
Are you crazy?

That's why a lot of people have things sent to PO boxes just across the border when ordering laptops or phones overseas in Canada.
Also, a little over $800 is close to the right conversion rate on the camo RM3.

Yes, I believe he was talking about that conversion rate for sure, the 8 GB RAM one should be a little less...

You rent a space at a post office in the US, and any packages that you don't want to pay duties or taxes on, you have them shipped there.
It does become an issue if they catch you doing it, but it's difficult for them to prove.

Canada Nexus one US

Hey,
I live in Toronto, Canada, I went on the google website to buy the nexus one, and the price it gives me for the phone including shipping is $556 US dollars.
In the shipping policy section it says your respective province/country might charge you the taxes at the time of delivery. My question is will I get charged taxes at the time I pick up my package? I have ordered stuff online from the states before and I have not been charged tax for those items or any extra fees on top of what I payed at the time of purchase (I ordered 60 dollars worth of clothing before).
As a little experiment I changed my shipping address from Canada to my friends address in the states, and the price is identical. Is the 556 US dollars the FINAL price americans/canadians pay for the phone?
Thanks for all your help.
I paid 529.00 in total, so I think you might be getting pinged with the taxes up front?
It should have it broken down in the final checkout screen! But try here they have a contact number also so you can always give them a call to see, best of luck to you...

haha thats messed up, after experimenting with the states address, I no longer get charged for shipping but instead I get charged US dollar tax, lol and it comes out to be 10 dollars more, $566. I dont know how you got away without paying tax or any shipping. Lucky you
Now I dont know whether to risk getting it shipped to Canada for 556 and end up paying tax on it at the time of pick up. Or to ship it to the states and pay 10 dollars more for tax? Darn taxes.
Thanks for the quick reply eh.

Unfortunately we do have to pay the tax. I think I had to pay an additional $80 which sucked.

Oh DAMN, I guess I would save that 80 dollars by shipping it to the states right? I am planning on going to my friends place in 2 weeks.
Now one more confusion, when I select a states address for shipping, I get a choice between fedex ground, 2nd day air, and overnight. What doesnt make sense is that picking fedex 2nd day air charges 5 dollars extra, but picking fedex overnight or fedex ground doesnt charge any extra. Shouldnt fedex overnight charge the most for shipping?
Thanks for your help and your quick reply.
Yes, you will have to pay GST, a broker fee, and in your case PST to the courier before they will hand over the package to you. If you're looking for a way to escape the PST you might try and move to Alberta. We don't have any!

haha lucky Albertans , I hate this damn province (ontario) paying the highest PST from all of Canada, and we still get **** services.
But ya I guess to avoid paying extra fees of shipping AND taxes at the time of pick up, I'll get it shipped to the states and pick it up from my friends place in 2 weeks.

Be sure that you do NOT buy the "rogers compatible" one.
Get the one that is tmobile/wind -- it will still work on robbers, just be stuck to 2G, plus in addition, it will be compatible with wind and moblicity/dave.
With robbers data charges (being robbery) it is hard to justify data on their service anyways.
Or just phone up Fido and ask for the $30/month 6GB plan. I actually bargained them down to $20/month for the 6GB.
As for picking it up in the states, you can save money that way as long as you are willing to lie to border patrol and say you didn't buy anything.
I got charged almost 90 dollars by the delivery man for customs charges.....so add that to your total cost.
I live in SW Ontario btw....
Well if he is on Fido he should get the rogers compatible device unless he is planning on making the switch to Wind.
Is the 6GB plan back? was taken away months ago, its why i haven't left rogers, since I know I won't get it back.
And yes grabbing it from your friend is the best option.
Duplicate post. Sorry.
Yeah, the 6GB plan is back. But not advertised. They brought it back to offer people who want to go to Wind. If you are patient enough, or lucky enough to get the right person you can get the deal you want.

Depends on the state. You won't get charged by Google for tax in some states.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

I shipped to Canada and the overall cost of my nexus was $650.

If anyone needs a spare/replacement P990...

If this counts as spam, feel free to delete it... but I've been here long enough that I think many others know I'm no bot
Anyway, if anyone needs a spare or replacement P990, drop me a PM and name your price (minimum $100 CAD or 75 euros). I'm willing to ship worldwide since I noticed most P990 users posting here live in Europe.
The package includes a black silicone protective sleeve, replacement 1800 mAh battery, original 1500 mAh battery, USB cable, and wall charger. No original box, headphones, or manual.
In the meantime, I'll go enjoy my Nexus 4 which is a pretty solid LG product because Google handles all the software

Pengus & Mac, remember the receiver pays taxes/customs to everything that ships outside EU region to EU.
Where I live, it is 40% extra to be paid in taxes once it arrives. Just a heads up

I believe the higher rates only apply to big-ticket brand new items like laptop computers where the full value must be truthfully declared. At least that's how it works between Canada and the US. This sort of item qualifies as a "gift" so the duty might not be that high.
edit: According to Canada Post, if the value is declared as $100 CAD, customs would be $12.70 shipping to Italy, with the cheapest and slowest shipping method being $17. That would be a net total of 98 EUR.
edit: I just realized that of all the regular posters in the P990 section, I seem to be the only one living in North America O_O

Same goes in Denmark. You gotta be VERY lucky if they let a package slide without declaring it. Might be a little different in Italy, but paying taxes ain't fun, it's like paying for the same thing twice

In comparison, buying anything from the US to bring into Canada is only charged the sales tax rate of the destination province, which is 13% in my province and as low as 5% in Alberta. So a $1000 computer would mean duties of just $130, nothing more.
And if you drive across the border to pick it up yourself, they don't really enforce this law on items that they can't see
A guy I know is offering me his O2X for 45 Euro incl. shipment to my house (he lives in another city).
Seems like prices dropped, lol he has CM9 on it, if I tell him about Kowalski kernel and PA12 he gone freak out and probably keep it
Don't know what I gone do with another phone, but Pengus I can buy it for you and ship it to you when I receive it if its wanted? Of course, not for free hehe but I think I can lower the price more since I know the dude
Think about it real hard before coming up with a final decision, another O2X... Really needed?

What????
No matter where you buy the Nexus 5... you will be paying sales tax, unless you purchase it from a company that has no physical location in that state. Technically if you do buy something that doesn't charge you tax you're supposed to report that in your taxes at the end of the year.
K.... being a non us resident & planning to buy from US just wanted to know is there a way to buy @ quoted price!!!!

Depends on the country.
Here's a calculator:
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
If you're in the UK you don't pay customs duty on imported mobile phones but you need to pay VAT at 20%, so it works out that a $349 phone is $418, or £260, which is actually more than you'd pay for the phone in the UK.

Preordering?

So are we going to be able to purchase the phone directly from Google not the play store? All I have seen so far is carrier listings and I would rather buy it direct.
Thanks

650 euros is significantly more than 650USD, ~530 is more of a fair asking price. I'll feel bad if someone pays 650 euros for a phone.

Are Australians being ripped off?

Is it just me or is there any other fellow Aussie wondering why the Mate 20 Pro is A$1,599 and NZ$1,422 (equiv. A$1,310). AND, NZ get the Emerald Green which I'd choose over Midnight Blue!

The nominal prices might seem odd to you, but the prices are based on complex economic calculations. Different country means different price levels, different average incomes and living cost etc.. Spending NZ$1400 in New Zealand might be very similar to spending AU$1600 in Australia (looking at how much you can buy with those respective amounts of money). Meaning just looking at the current exchange rate of both currencies does not give you valid info about the justification of different prices in different countries.
Also there can be numerous other reasons for it to be more expensive like varying coporate tax, customs, bureaucracy etc.. (one thing that comes to my mind is increased transportation cost across Australia....)
PS: In Germany the Mate 20 Pro is 999€ which equals AU$1600 (but it includes 20% tax). The average income is 3000€/month before tax (like 1800€/month after tax) essentially 999€ means more than half your monthly income. From my time in Australia I remember making a lot more money (2600/week , 1800/week after tax - roughly 7000 a month after tax). Buying the phone for 1600 would cost me a lot less when seen as a percentage of my monthly income. (which makes the phone much cheaper although the nominal price is the same). I realise that the average income in AUS is less than what I earned but i think 5000/month after tax is reasonable....even then buying the phone merely means sacrificing 32% of whats available each month compared to roughly 55% in Germany.

Still, better to be the one paying 1000$ USD than $1300. I travel to Ukraine quite often and it's insane that the same phone there is hundreds more than America. A Mate 20 Pro would be like 5months of average income there....

True, but in those countries "average income" does not mean as much as there is almost no middle - just the rich and the poor... (sadly the west is heading towards the same direction). So huawei only cares about what the rich can effort...
For all others they create sub brands like honor or xiaomi poco or oppo realme... each brand and its marketing directed to skim as much consumer surplus as possible and profit from each income group as much as they can.
Yes. The price is a joke. This is the price I'd expect when the next iphone and S10 are priced around $2000....

Well, it really depends on your law. I'm from Venezuela and we have a limit to such gifts that are not taxable, don't really remember though what is the sum. The easiest, but no the cheapest way is to have a friend to bring it to you, that way you won't have to pay tax. Any way, the cost of living in Australia is pretty low, can't you afford to but a phone locally? If we are to compare it with the real cost of living in Venezuela, it should be good enough.
