SM-N960U vs Sprint OMADM. Flash Open Firmware? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I bought a used Note 9; SM-N960U, off of letgo a couple of days ago. I checked it over like usual with a used phone . The phone made and received calls like normal. The guy told me that the phone was originally Sprint, but he was using it on t-mobile. The phone seemed normal enough.
After I got the phone home and performed a factory reset on it I started getting Sprint OMADM messages at every boot. With my Active Verizon SIM in the phone it makes and receives calls as it should. It has internet and texts as it should... but I get a full screen window at every boot from Sprint OMADM reminding me that Activation was unsuccessful and it all pops back up every 20 minutes or so. There is also another process by the name of Sprint Hub with messages indicating its Processing requests and requests are processing.
After some research I determined I should flash it to the Unlocked firmware thinking that wouldn't have the Sprint nonsense.

Thank you. I found that and read both pages prior to posting my question but my concern was that those remedies appear to be all temporary and would not survive factory reset, so, should I ever decide to give this phone to my mother or another family member they would be in the same boat as I am now and they are far less tech savvy.
I would prefer a more permanent solution which I thought perhaps I could achieve via a firmware flash. Thank you though for your help.

S5 Messaging (Just not receiving some NOT ONLY IPHONE) FIX

Well to all you out there with a Verizon Galaxy S5 I hope you haven't been stuck with this issue. If you have well I might be able to help.
I have been searching for 4 days straight trying to find anything that might help....EVERYTHING I found was useless.
Description of problem:
I would have a conversation with someone and then all the sudden about 5 or so messages in I would not get a response. After thinking that the person or persons did not want to talk anymore I came to the conclusion later that the one I was messaging said I was the one who didn't respond. I did see on their phone that they replied. YET I DIDNT GET IT. This has gone on with people for 2 weeks in my case. THIS IS NOT TALKING ABOUT THE IPHONE MESSAGING PROBLEM.
This I tried but a NO-GO:
1. Factory Reset.
2. Rooting/Putting Custom Recovery On
3. Using the Recovery to Wipe Cache/Fix Permissions
4. Accidentally Bricked My S5......Used Odin to ReFlash 4.4.2 Stock.
5. Started from the ground up. Back to out of the store condition. NO WARRENTY VOID
6. Went to the store I got it from (Cellular Sales Authorized Verizon Retailer)....They knew less than I did. (Hire me PLZ)
IN THE END:
Nothing made sense....Everything had been tampered with and no change what-so-ever.....It has to be Communication from the towers to the phone.
Here is the FIX that so far has worked. Only been a couple hours of testing:
I called VZW Tech Support. First Tier didn't know. Transferred up the ladder....Second Tier did some testing and told me this....He needed to reset the connection the towers had with the SIM Card. To let him do that and then turn my phone off, take the SIM Card out and leave it out for 2 Min. When he did, I was able to text 3 of the people that I was able to message...but had a few not received, and they all went through. Only way to truly know is at the end of the day after more messages.
So don't go crazy and try everything like I did. See if the Tech Support can reconnect the SIM Card for you. :good: :highfive:

Likelihood of Warranty Exchange

Hi all,
Have a question for you. Bought a used S8 off of a guy on the internet awhile back. Phone worked fine for a few weeks, but now has developed a problem where it claims no service and as such there is no data/calling/texting. Factory resets sometimes do or don't fix this issue. If it is fixed with a reset, it reoccurs within some hours. I have sent this in five times to Samsung. It has been out of my possession for weeks and weeks with the constant shipping back and forth. It is currently being shipped back to me. I assume in a not-fixed state. The service center people can't replicate the issue because it magically doesn't occur when they run their suite of tests on the device. As a result, they literally do nothing to the phone and also won't replace it. What is the chance I could go into a T-Mobile store and have it replaced? Thanks for your time.

Normally in order for T-Mobile to exchange the unit, they would need to access the original buyer's account and see the warranty status. I first thought your phone's IMEI could have been blocked by T-Mobile, but you mention that after factory reset it works sometimes. Use T-Mobile's IMEI checker website and see what it shows you. https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx If you phone is unlocked, try another sim card, from another provider such as AT&T.

I was just assuming it wasn't blocked since it works on and off, but yeah, that site is telling me it is blocked on their network. Thanks. Guess this was a complete waste of money.

I believe there is a chance that T-Mobile might unblock it depending on why it was blocked in the first place.

Nexus 6, T-Mobile and MMS problem

This has been a frustrating issue. My wife and I both have Nexus 6 phones. She has the 32gb & I have the 64gb version. Hers recently started not receiving MMS messages. Anything with a large picture would simply never show up. Anything with a very small graphic or group text would show up as "Non-text content". Here are the steps we've taken to solve this:
1. TMO started by insisting it was an APN issue. So she edited her APN. Didn't help.
2. We then swapped SIMs. Hmmmm. My phone then behaved like hers while hers could then send/receive MMS.
3. TMO said ok maybe it's the SIM. They sent us a new one. SAME result. Her phone wouldn't receive MMS.
4. Out of frustration, I factory reset her phone and reset the APN info. Didn't help. (Cleaned up her phone of some trash programs though. :laugh
5. TMO engineering says they still can't find anything on their end. Elevate to tech supervisor. She tells us to go a TMO store (right near us) to try a THIRD SIM. OK, we do. SAME RESULT. We tried swapping SIMs around again and the same thing happens. My SIM in her phone, everything works. Her SIM in mine, I can't receive MMS.
6. TMO store guy suggests MAYBE (but unlikely) that there is something her account has that's stored on the SIM when its activated that causes the phone to freak. Also says it's above his pay grade .
So now we are again waiting on TMO to poke around further on their end. My question for all you smart types here is:
Has anyone ever heard of this issue? Is there anything you know of that could be causing it? I think it's a bad provisioning somewhere in the dark recesses of TMO. The ONLY change we made to our plans (which seems just coincidental) is that we moved from the 2 lines Unlimited for $100 plan to the over-55 Unlimited plan. We did this maybe 3 weeks ago. But the features are all the same on both plans.
We are both on the same Android 7.0 final OTA firmware updates from Google. NBD92G
Would there be ANY chance that a sideload firmware update would make any difference? We're getting desperate here. Any & all suggestions welcome.
I wonder if her SIM is configured for wifi calling. There has been a conflict between wifi calling and mms for awhile. I've seen it reported several times where this T-Mobile forum post helps in that case
Don't use old firmware... I had issues on certain custom ROMs and old firmware where MMS wouldn't work over WiFi. Never as bad as you were getting.
If you wanna stay stock, sideload the latest OTA to go to NGI55D. Anything older than that is vulnerable to Blueborne exploit, which is a HUGE security concern IMO. I can confirm MMS is working correctly (even with WiFi enabled) on bone stock NGI55D as well as custom ROM Dirty Unicorns v11.7.1 which includes September security patch.

I've had this issue on most LOS roms. i ended up making a custom APN i flash when i try a rom built on LOS.
Yeah, it sure sounds like a problem with account partitioning, or something else with the account that gets associated with the SIM on initial use. What if you try the problem SIM in a phone that is not a Nexus 6? I wonder if you could get a new sim and set it up in a different phone, then transfer it to the problem phone?
OK all, finally got a TMO engineer who agreed with my assessment -- that it was a hidden provisioning problem. She nuked my wife's line and recreated it from scratch. Everything works great now. Frustrating that we had to go through about 15 phone calls and over 3 hours of phone time to get it resolved.

Verizon alert keeps popping up

My phone is constantly being interrupted by this annoying popup: (I can't post links being a new user, but the image is at imgur FN7uUhL )
"Alert
Sorry, we're having trouble connecting. Make sure you have a good signal and try again. If you still can't connect, call us at 800-922-0204.
Error code 1001"
It doesn't say what app it is, but I suspect it's from Verizon because the phone number is theirs.
My phone is unlocked and I use it on Personal in Argentina. I've used this phone for years and this only started happening last Thursday out of nowhere. No new apps, no system upgrade.
Rebooting the phone doesn't help either, and I wouldn't want to factory reset if it can be avoided. Any ideas what this might be?
Thanks!
same, just today noticed this on an older LG G4
Alert Message - Same thing here...
Same thing here have had Moto E4 Plus on Metro PCS for the last few years and just started receiving this message in the last week. The phone was a Verizon phone that I unlocked and has been working great on Metro...until now. What's going on?

Same here on my note 4, using T-mo prepaid. Just started a week ago. Also the verizon splash screen still displays on power up. My understanding is the V boot loader is locked.

SOLVED I had the same problem as well but I found a way to get rid of it, you gotta disable the My Verizon app and then 1 settings then mobile networks then network mode and set the global off to LTE/GSM/UMTS and then it will not pop up anymore, your welcome.

Good news, I found the locations since I don't have "my verizon apps" Bad news, the fix does NOT work at all.
Solved
I actually got online with Motorola because I knew that the app causing this nightmare was Verizon Login . The problem is that I debloated all my Verizon and the problem still occurred. But then by going through Settings | Apps | ... |Show System, I say the bugger was still there. I disabled it and the problem was solved. Of course this worked for me because I'm on an unblocked phone and note using Verizon.
My husbands Samsung Galaxy S7 has been doing this for over a month. He tried disabling anything Verizon related and even a factory reset and it's still doing it.

Yes, I did same with my note 4, still there. IGNORE those solved posts, this problem is NOT solved. I use T-mobile prepaid with this phone and since verizon locks the boot loader, there is not yet a rooting solution for this phone and since it's a note 4 there will not be one forthcoming.
fixed it permanently
SOLVED: I have two Verizon phones that I now use on T-Mobile and this has worked for both.
Settings->Apps & Notifications->App Info (options may be slightly renamed on different versions of Android, may be Applications instead, just get to the big list of applications in the Settings app)
then hit the triple dot/menu thing to give extra options and choose Show System
Scroll down and choose Verizon Login and disable it and force stop it.
Message will be gone forever. I've rebooted both phones several times and the message has never come up again.
In addition, disable permissions of My Verizon: SMS, phone and GPS location, your welcome

So I have an old Verizon tablet that is running android 5.1.1. I don't have options for "show system" or "Verizon login" that I can find. Anybody familiar with this 5.1.1 that knows where it would be or if I'm overlooking. Thanks.
Awesome! I'm using an unlocked Verizon LG G5 in Canada and I've been trying for quite some time to get rid of this problem. I've tried all the suggested fixes I could find on the net and this is the solution! Thanks so much buddy. Much appreciated eh!
This problem started recently for me on Samsung S6 unlocked Verizon phone that I use with foreign SIM cards when traveling. I tried restoring settings to default, but that didn't work. Then I tried resetting network settings and that appears to have worked. it was popping up every couple minutes and so far it has not.
don't work

I had the same problem on my unlocked S6 Edge and knew that the Verizon Login app was the issue but the damn phone wouldn't let me disable it; grayed out. I bought an app in the Play Store named "Package Disabler Pro (Samsung)" for $2.99. The thing will let you disable ANY software whether built in or not. So once you launch, disable Verizon Login with it and the problem is gone. If you disable "Setup Wizard", you also won't get the stupid message about the SIM not being VZW card when you boot. I disabled all the other Verizon software too. Problem was so aggravating that I got an account here just to share the answer since I figure it has to be driving people CRAZY!!!!

Help!!!
Still having this issue, I’ve disabled all those apps, force stopped them, and it continues to haunt the phone. I’ve called Verizon and they don’t know anything about it, and I’m really about to throw the phone away and buy a new one. It’s an s7 so it’s still a decent phone, but I don’t know what else to do
So Close, but Disable is Disabled

This definitely got me closer. Using this method I was able to revoke permissions which forces VZ SpyLogin to fail so it isn't running, BUT, the "Disable" button is disabled, even if I force stop the app. It's most certainly this application causing the issue. Thanks for the closest solution.
**EXTRA info
This wasn't happening at all on my phone ever, and this is an old one (I need the IR blaster in the Samsung G6). It's an unlocked Verizon branded phone running on ATT network. I factory reset it yesterday and now I am getting this annoying Verizon Login nonsense.

Sprint V40 APN Settings locked in

I have a Sprint flavored V40 on Cricket's network. It was bought from Amazon Renewed and it was advertised as a carrier free phone, but on first boot that Sprint logo slapped me in the face. I contacted the seller and he offered me a full refund, but since the same sim card from my V30+ (US998) received better signal by far than ever before, I decided to keep it. I input Crickets APN settings and it stuck but the Sprint settings are grayed out and cant be deleted or edited. I can receive MMS messages but can't send one at all. I can be in and receive group messages but can't send a reply. I assume it's because of the Sprint APN settings conflict. I'd like to flash a different firmware but am lost with the countless vague and confusing tutorials. I knew my way around the V30+ better than Joe Biden knows his way around his basement. But with this V40 I feel like Sleepy Joe does when he tries to make a complete sentence. Any help would be very appreciated.

You sound like the kind of person that would call others losers and suckers? Why would they help you?
Look, I'm just trying to make my phone great again. If some sucker or loser is against that idea then I don't want their help anyways. I'm needing to Trump this one problem I have on an otherwise great phone. I'm determined to build this mobile device back bigger and better than ever before. So good you just wouldn't believe.
Well good you don't want their help, cause u ain't gonna get it.
Just like any other rumster, always thinks is smart but at the end it always shows how dumb it is ...
Political nonsense aside, I've got the same issue - but with a Sprint locked phone on Tello. Phone works fine on stock ROM but I'm unable to use a custom ROM because I lose 4G. Any attempt to change APN is unsuccessful, it reverts to default and I lose 4G. Is there any way to get APN to "stick"?

The only thing I can think of is to flash the USA unlocked rom, it will not sim unlock the phone but it will open some other options (Like the APN).
