OK I can find the answers here most likely but I just wanted to ask questions.
I have had s2 and s3. both rooted. both custom kernels. etc. I noticed vast improvements. the one frankly makes me nervous. should I even root it?
its on telus network in Canada. seems the ones are all the same no? unlike Samsung galaxy series. is development advanced enough to go ahead? I've only had the phone now for less than a week. I really do like it. miss the physical home button. don't care about aluminum design etc. nervous about sealed battery. but the battery life is awesome so far. even on the first charge I got all day and 6 hours of screen. this was with playing with settings. trying speakers. etc. but of course I'm always looking for more.
I'd say rooting my s3 meant I went from all day and 5 hours screen to all day and 6 plus hours screen. definitely worth it. should I expect the same here? I really want a secondary way to wake the device. pushing a touch button or swipe would be nice. will these not work in a dark room? any detrimental reasons why I wouldn't want this?
I mostly want battery life. convince me that I have the right phone. I can still return it I think. but got a good deal on the phone. basically paid 500 for it new. on a plan. 150 off price. and 500 device balance should I decide to pay it out. s4 is still 150 on contract. plus the 500 device balance. I want to like the one I really do. but missing Samsung sometimes. this is not an s4 vs one thread. just help me make the most of this device.
oh and today battery life is not so good. 12 hours up time. 2.5 hrs screen and 40% left. not terrible I guess. but perhaps something is sending it down some.
another question. what root features will do me the most for battery? with s3 I set screen off max to really really low. and that helped. under volt across the board and limit CPU speed. but this is my first quad core. thanks
Don't wanna sound mean, but save yourself the trouble and switch the One for the S4. I've enough experience to know that when you're questioning a phone, asking whether it's the right one for you or not, usually means the mind's set on something else and you'll never be happy with it. If you miss Samsung and you like the ability to switch batteries, why not go with the S4? It's not a bad device, and you said yourself that you don't care about the aluminium design of the One.
If battery life is what you're after, I'd be happy to let you know there are a lot of beefy batteries available for the S4. Check Amazon for instance.
Cheers.

Fair enough. I don't know any battery saving tweaks as I don't pay much mind to that. I just use my device like I want to use it, then charge whenever I see fit. I have a charger at home, next to my bed (which is also conveniently close to my desk) so I'm happy if it lasts 8 hours of medium usage (whenever I'm working)
I just don't wanna see you miserable, mate. I've seen far too many people making the wrong choice of phone (myself included, though not with the One) and ending up hating anything and everything (not literally ).
i agree with theshawty 1st post...
@OP, i think you only want some attention and some words to help you sleep at night... you're not a noob in rooting world, you already know about the difference between HTC and Samsung in battery area, and now you want others to convince you? nobody can...
Try JuiceDefender. It does a good job of managing radios and turning things off and on based on location in addition to some other solid battery saving techniques.
Also, I hear your pain. I love the design and the speakers. I even like Sense for the first time ever. I think I miss the physical home button of my S2 and 3 though. Reaching for the power button is annoying and compounded by the fact that the screen stays off when texts are received.

you should stick with the S4. The battery life on the One will make you hate it later. I had the S4 but switched to the One because I just enjoy the screen of the One more than the S4.

really? i average 30+ hrs with 5-7 hrs screen time which is on par with the s4 i had but the lag was to much. how does a phone with the same processor as the one but overclocked to 1.9 ghz lag when the one at 1.7 ghz doesnt? that is unacceptable for a flagship device
Man you guys are so helpful S-off your phone and unlock ur bootloader then load the 4.2.2 leak the battery life and camera are amazing on it...root and use greenify and enable auto hibernation.Enable power saver but disable the screen option(which really dims screen) put screen brightness @ 50% trust me awesome Battery life

I'm not a noob to rooting. I've done it with almost every phone I've had. I just happen to not have much experience with HTC. I had a desire HD. rooted. but got rid of it shortly after.
like I said if I was so desperate for the s4 I would get it. or i would go out and buy one outright. i saved 150 buying the one, its got rave reviews, and so far save for a few thinga i love it. I said I don't care about aluminum, but truth be told this phone seems much more robust than s4. materials aside. and that's important. if it was a robust plastic phone I would not care.
I've been reading the forums but really haven't had much time lately. thanks for replies

Hey guys, looking for some input here.
Im coming up on the 14 day return policy for the nexus 6, but im really thinking of returning it and going with the note 4.
The only issue i have with the phone is battery life. My phone seems to gulp it down. Now i do have many battery draining features turned off and standby time is excellent. Its when i actually use the phone i get massive drain, whether it be facebooking, web browsing, or playing games, the phone loses a lot of life! My wife used the camera this past weekend for 20 minutes according to the stats and my percentage dropped 25%from 80% to 55% within 1/2 hour!
My brightness is also on adaptive at 35-40%. For the life of me, it just seems i cant stop the battery drain.
I know going to the stock note 4 battery is about the same, but Zerolemon is releasing the note 4 10000 mah battery later this month. I had the same battery on my note 3 and loved it, ive never killed that battery. Yes, itll be a brick, yes but im thinking id prefer battery over function.
I do love the nexus, especially the screen size and the front facing speakers, and i will lose those with the note, but having a dead phone by 6pm makes those features useless. Yes, i could charge the phone halfway through the day, but i was spoiled with the note 3 extended battery.
SO my question is, should i chance the nexus 6 and hope upcoming updates solve the drain, or should i dump it and go with the note 4 and extended battery.
Frank
TL;DR NExus 6 battery dies too quick, return and get note 4 with zero lemon.
I went from the Note 4 to the Nexus 6 and battery life is about the same. I was actually pretty disappointed with the battery life of the Note 4 considering i had a Note 2 where the battery lasted FOREVER! I had originally decided that i would bypass the Nexus 6 and get the Note 4 instead, and at first i loved it but after having to deal with constant lag and dealing with samsung's crappy radios i'm glad i picked up the Nexus 6 (Note 4 is my new alarm clock at home)
It seems that your mind is already made up.. just get the Note 4

Are you using stock ROM or rooted and/or flashed? Sounds unusual for stock. I'd check your network settings and make sure your preferred network type and access point name are correct for your carrier but if standby time is good that probably isn't it anyway. I'd look for an app which gives more detailed battery usage information and go from there.
after going through an S4 and Note 3.. Im glad to be away from samsung. They have amazing hardware specs but drag it down with their crappy touchwiz. It's really unfortunate, the s-pen is pretty great.

im actually fully stock, with just a few apps. I have checked for wake locks and draining apps and down have any. Actually all the apps i had are the same as the note 3 i had. Nothing new.
Im on att and my prefered network is LTE, changed it from global a few days ago.
It seems the biggest drain is during use, not standby!

That is normal on any device. That battery for me is decent. However don't forget that you just got a new device. People always use new devices more initially before they settle into a normal use rhythm. Also I wouldn't worry much about the return date because this device is so hard to get that if you sold it yourself you would probably make money on it. Just give it time.

It's possible that something is wrong with YOUR nexus. I get 5 hours of sot with a stock rooted rom and greenify. Once I decrypt, ROM and kernel I'd expect 6 to 8 easy.

The battery life is obviously important, so it is certainly a dice roll on your part.
For me, I have a Note 2 and waiting for N6 to be available for me. I am so sick of Samsung forced apps and touchwiz. It's not rooted, but I don't feel like I should have to root it in order to get a basic OS without the addons being forced on me by the manufacturer, and then have the warranty voided because of it.

theres no such thing as "typical". we all use our devices differently, and have differing signal quality. you can really ever compare battery stats with another person because of that. only you know how you use your device. so the question is going to get changed.. by how you use your device, and your local signal quality, are you happy with your battery life?

Did you allow google to auto restore settings, apps, data at first boot up? Coming from a different device and OS version could have synced something funky that is causing this. I have noticed this before. Consequentially I never use this feature. I always set every device up fresh (same if switching Roms too in my book). I would try a factory reset at the very least. I have been trying hard to kill my n6 today with no luck, already 12 up time 22% battery left with 4½ hours SOT. Battery stats say I have 3 hours of life left.
Have google now on and going, 2 email clients syncing, g+ syncing, Tapatalk syncing, roughtly 4 active hangouts going, and updated 8+ apps from play store.
Been actively trying to duplicate a power day on this thing. With you experience, something is off with your description and worth experimenting some.
I did do the wireless sync due to some apps needing to recover data.
Maybe I'll try a reset and manually download the apps.

Ive had my phone for a couple weeks now. The first week I had it obviously I was playing around with it a ton and trying different Qi chargers to see how they work. My battery life was unimpressive at 8-10 hours. I was hoping to have at least a full days worth of time based on everything this is supposed to have.
Then I tried a couple things. I turned off the stupid fit application. I ran the battery all the way down until the phone literally turned off. Then I used only wall USB chargers to charge it up.
Now with the same type of usage 3-4 hours of screen time, Im typically getting at least 18-24 hours of battery life. I even managed 30 hours once. Anyway, Im extremely happy with the way this phone is holding up now. Obviously YMMV but I think if you find the right tweaks for the way you use it, it should last longer than you expect.

So Far Today by your stats i will give you mine.
@ 27% Battery Left after flashing Stock a 1.5 days ago rooted/decrypted
Screen is at 4:30:09 @ 42% Usage
Phone Radio 15:30:41 @ 4% usage
Wifi Active 3:24:12 1% usage
Held Awake 2:23:26 0% usage
App Usage 53%
I also have a persistent System (ADSPD) drain that while i don't know how much its draining app sucker puts it at 13.8% vs the next drainer of Android System at 7.3%
Just guessing maybe you are in a poorer signal area than I? Basing that on your phone radio using much more of the percentage?
For what its worth you saw my screen on time. GSAM is predicting 6h 58m total for the day if i run it to 0.
I have to first tell you I had the SG S4, HTC M7, HTC M8, as my previous Android phones before I
switched to the iPhone 6 plus. As soon s I saw this Galaxy S6 I could't wait to get back to Android.
I really hate Apple and the way you have to use itunes to do anything on the phone.
Received my new SGS6 edge 128 gb sapphire black and it is fantastically built and the perfect size.
That's where all the joy ends. Lets all face the facts, the battery life on this phone stinks. Yes I am a
very experienced Android user and disabled ALL the bloat. Then you have to star disabling features
like VOLTE, wifi, push services etc.... Why the hell would you pay 1,000 for a phone that in order to
barely make a business day power wise you have to disable so many of the features? With that said
and a ton of stuff disabled the phone barely last 12 hours. That is not acceptable. The iPhone plus goes
2 full days (48 hours) with everything on before I have to charge. Before you start asking, yes I did multiple factory
resets, I did the clear cache etc. Like I said I am very experienced with Android phones.
I was so disappointed in the G6 with its sub par battery life. I still hate my iPhone and am looking
for the next Android release (Sony or LG) to see if they are any better. I like the Note 4 but I believe the
international version does not have LTE on ATT.
If anyone has any other Android suggestions please advise me so I can escape the Apple lock.

Have you looked at the HTC M9? I have the M9 currently and it's a pretty good phone. We already have a lot of devs making custom roms and kernels.
I am interested in the s6 which is why I'm looking at this forum, but the M9 is a really nice phone. I'm never satisfied, I have an addiction, a very expensive addiction.
Have you tried charging several times and bleeding the battery out after a couple of days? I noticed it wasn't really impressive batt life..then I disabled the at&t apps, cleared cache from recovery, disabled WiFi scanning, use power saving mode and I can get through the entire day, gym, and charge it at night with around 30% left..I'd give it a week or 2

Sameer,
Yes I did run down to 0 and then charged full, reset cache and there was only a marginal gain.
This is a business phone and I cannot be in the situation of worrying if my battery is going to
die while I am out with customers.
I will monitor this forum to see if any software update fixes the problem.
BTW I did get the Samsung push update and the Google services update.
So frustrating because I really wanted to make this phone work.

Lyall,
I loved the M7 and M8 and battery life was outstanding. The only thing that was
bad was the camera. So I have 2 questions:
1 - How is battery life
2 - How is the camera (I read not very good things about it)
I had the Developer edition on both the M7 and M8.

Battery life is acceptable. I listen to podcasts and do light browsing all day at work and my battery usually drops between 3 & 5% per hour. If I watch videos or play a game the battery drops a lot faster. I would say the battery life is about the same as the m8.
The camera has improved greatly with the new firmware updates from HTC, but it's still probably not as good as the s6. One thing for sure is, the camera on the m9 is definitely better than the m8.

The battery is an easy fix, update google play services to the latest 64bit version and then kill it dead a few times and use the quick charger to charge it to 100%. I am having zero issues making it thru the day and then some.

Designgears,
I did exactly what you are suggesting. The only thing that fixed was the cell standby usage.
Before that update the battery was unusable, so yes that helped.
If I watched any kind of streaming video, you tube, nexflix etc, the battery went down unbelievable.
I had a video conference for 20 minutes the battery dropped 25%. Any stress on the phone the battery
drops like crazy. I really believe it may be a lollypop issue but I cant justify over 1,000 dollars on a phone
that won't last the day. Especially if its not unlocked with software updates few and far between.
Should I try the International version? If anything the updates will be quicker. Do you think without
any bloat ( I did disable all the bloat) will the battery be better?

S9 Exynos here.
Second full day (after a half day when I got it) and it's been pretty horrible. I expected it to be average or not great for the first couple days, but this is nuts.
I've got everything on - location, sync, AOD, Bixby, etc - and am losing about 5% per hour with the screen off. Ending the day on 15% with only an hour or two of SOT.
Will be keeping a spreadsheet log of it, including what services are on and how I've used it, so will report back. Hope it improves naturally with everything on though. Reception is also surprisingly average; in the bathroom at work my Pixel 1 had decent enough reception to load videos, but my S9 seems to struggle to even load images. Pixel 1 had 3G in an underground pub, but my S9 couldn't get any data at all.

Happy to provide them, I just never bother taking them haha. Why better though? I log my battery details in a spreadsheet, so wouldn't this be the same as a screenshot?
Coral Blue Galaxy S9 battery
2days turned on with 5hrs SoT.
Awesome.

It's just better because most people do like that since you just see the screens instead of reading everything, but as you like man :victory:
battery times (at least european version) are currently worse than s8. most reviews i have read (with comparison) are confirming this.

Can confirm.
Same settings, apps and usage behaviour.
S9: Usage ~14 hours and 5 hours sot
S8: Usage ~20+ hours and 7+ hours sot
Samsung wtf?
I don't know whether I've conditioned the battery or whether it's the intelligent scan that i turned off (and restarted phone) but i am getting 5hrs sot 36hrs uptime. AOD off. Resolution is fhd+. Exynos s9.

Sure i have also 5h SOT (with 2 h playing a game currently) but turning off things shouldn't be the solution to get SOT times still worse than the s8.
The bad thing is most reviews are aware of the bad battery Times but still gave a high rating. So samsung will not fix this as fast as we want as the first reviews are rewarding them.
This should be a high priority issue.
I am sure this idiots will first concentrate their fixes to have higher benchmarks results

Do you think it's fixable by Samsung? Maybe the new Exynos is just a battery sucker.
Battery life is underwhelming. Got like 1-2% discharge per hour, with phone locked + internet connection.
Here i have g960FD, battery REALLY SUCKS. My s8 does a LOT better than my S9, Idk if installing another firmware will solve the issue, i have germany firmware rn but it sucks a lot

How long have you had it? I wonder if the battery would improve after it has a chance to settle (i.e. after a number of charge/discharge cycles)

5 days. The problem is I have a Pixel 2 and a brand new S8 and both of them are doing great...

Are both the S8 and S9 Exynos?
I agree that it shouldn't be so much worse from the get-go...however, I personally care far more about how it behaves long term. If the S9 does eventually stabilize to behaving similar to the S8, that'd be fine with me. *If*...
(I'm currently on the fence between Exynos S8 and Exynos S9...)
Please read all S9 Exynos owners and watchers

i have poor battery life than other device. i should have not moved to s9 from a huawei midrange device. having premium phone but you still need to think on saving battery doesn't make sense. why pay for a premium phone if you will need to turn off features and sleep the apps just to save juice while outside. this is not fair.
Standby time on my phone has been amazing. Actually from 100% -90%, my battery drains like crazy, but after that it steadies out. I forgot to charge my phone last night with 72%, woke up with 70% and now still going strong. I think I can last another day with this phone. Yeah yeah I only have like one hour and 30min of SOT as of right now, but when I use my.phone through heavy usage I usually can get 5 hrs or even 5hrs and a half. Here's my small tip on how to save battery life:
1. Power saving mode on: CPU limiter off / decrease brightness 10% /AOD off / FHD
2. Battery saving on location settings
3. Make sure data is off when using wifi (developer setting)
4. Delete or disable bloatware
5. Use BetterBatteryStats to check and make sure you have no wakelocks (had some before and with a reboot it fixed all my problems)
6. Make sure your phone settles in. Give it at least a week
7. Go to the battery setting and click on certain apps and disable background activity so that it doesn't trigger any warlock (this will disable notification so beware)
8. For people who use Facebook, delete it. Go to chrome (or brave, which is better) and sign into to your Facebook account and add the website to your homescreen. Honestly it's a lot smoother and you will still receive notifications.
And yeah that's about it for my battery saving tips. Battery will vary depending on your usage so dont depend too much on this idea.
Here's mine
Hi guys.
I have small problem with my Mi 11 Ultra's battery
Usually I charge it to about 85% , then I use it until the battery level becomes about 15%
It gives me 5 hours and half of SOT with 60 frames !! Which is awful for me, I just suffer facebook , Instagram , TikTok and Clash Royal
So I am wondering , How many hours do you get in your Mi 11 Ultra ??
Any advice for me to do ?
My ROM is Global.

I have to charge mine everyday, difficult to get used to after years of my huawei 30pro lasting at least 2& 1/2 days. I am also using a p6 (non pro) and it gets about the same battery life as the 11 Ultra

But in what other things j7 can compare with 11 ultra?
Superb hardware and performance then u want battery can hold longer?
They already have Superb fast charging so nobody care about battery now
If u want phone with extra super long battery time, take something like function Nokia phone from 2000, u can live with 1 week without charging

First,I only compared the battery between each phone.
Second, When you pay for flagship, you want an excellent experience.

If u want to compares something, take other phone with the same spec, dont make funny comparition like that
2nd, the manufacter cant do anything now. People want flagship hardware, flagship performance, beauty and style design, but want battery last longer is almost impossible. So they try to make the charger as fast as possible. 30-45 mins for 5-6 hours of heavy use is balance solution
It's just crap for sure. I came from a K20 Pro Premium. 855+, 12gb ram, 512gb. Better battery life. The 888 is a trashy power hungry chip that serves as a heater. Honestly, if it wasn't for the stellar camera in the 11U, I'll be pissed off.
i get something like 8-9h sot with 60 hz no aod and full hd+

I think it's mixture of 888 chip and powerful screen without adaptive screen property.
I'm thinking from this moment , What Should I do when the summer has come

I briefly switched to an iPhone last year for 3-4 months after being an Android person my whole life. I had heard the experienced greatly improved on iPhone and you could not do things like change default apps and such so I thought id give it a try. The experience was terrible, and you cannot change default app for texting which was the biggest thing, but it had a hundred other minor annoyances as well. Anyway, the biggest thing I noticed was that I was coming from a OnePlus 9 Pro which had abysmal battery life, and was one of my reasons for switching. I always heard iPhone battery was actually pretty good and better on average than flagship Android phones. Well the iPhone 12 Pro battery was better than the OnePlus 9 Pro, but not by much. I actually thought it was pretty bad when I had been expecting good battery from what everyone had been telling me. But after switching back to Android and going with a Mi 11 Ultra, the 11 Ultra actually has better batter than my iPhone did. Probably 15-20% better battery life really. I heard the Mi Mix 4 was even better than the 11 Ultra in this regard even with a smaller capacity. So I am hopeful for newer flagships like the 12 Ultra when it comes out, but even the 11 Ultra is already better than what an iPhone gets.
Battery life has never been good on this phone. I used to have 5 to 6h of SOT at max but since MIUI 13 update it is even worse. I barely reach 5h now and battery drains really fast. This with the update policy of xiaomi who takes months to release ROMs and doesn't include all Chinese ROMs improvements and functionalities makes me go back to samsung or oppo... Really disappointing. The Mi 11 ultra is my second xiaomi phone but i think it will be the last
I don't know why for you is like this but with some tricks I get easily 7 to 8 SoT
And what arz those tricks?
There is a thread I opened few months ago, have a look with the search function
few tricks might help.
always set the screen refresh rate to 90hz thru "setedit" app
brightness set to 75%, lower the better
turn off sync, Bluetooth and NFC if not needed
always use wifi for data and enable airplane mode if your sure no calls or text needed (there are social apps that might be used anyways to contact you)
set wallpaper to black, set icons to white only, no fancy color
turn off AOD
if you capture pictures or video for a long time, use airplane mode
if this tricks are a bummer, then this is the payment for having a flagship phone
indeed SD 888 is a device oven
battery is so bad on new update android 13
can i go back to android 11
thanks
Happy im still on miui 12.5.20, still to many probs on miui 13 for me.
I have really good battery time i think.
