Dust in wide angle camera lens - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

I just noticed there is a lot of dust particles in the wide angle camera lens. It was not there before and this much dust is accumulated inside just in 5 days of usage. The main camera unit is dust free though.
Please share if anyone is having same issue. Other wise its a device specific issue.

No dust here

Yes even I have this issue with my device. Within 5-6 days of usage there is dust in the wide angle camera lens. Main camera is clean but there is lots of dust in the wide angle lens.

It might be, the only way to clear it will be to remove the back panel and clean it. I think i might apply for a replacement. Only one person mentioned this issue so this might be device specific.

I got water vapour in my lens both
It was my mistake as well, i had kept my phone in my rain jacket pocket and it was raining a lot. Although the phone was under zipper pocket the condensation of water vapour is visible under the lens. I know this phone is not water proof however Asus could have done a better job at least to seal the camera lens.

Just noticed that i have condensation on my front camera lens as well ????*

so would it be ok to just put a tape on the vent? it's not that useful anyway right?
im guessing it's the main reason why dust goes into the phone.
btw did the og rog phone suffer from this issue too?

I just taped the vent the day I received the phone because the vent doesn't do much cooling at all. Been using it all day for past 9 days, travelling outside in a very dusty City and not even a particle of dust visible anywhere.

Just used transparent tape. A rectangular piece in the right size such that the Aero case which they've given exactly covers both of the sides of the tape. Basically unnoticeable.

My phone went through a tough time because of rain. The power button was misbehaving, I guess there was some moisture in there as well. I thought that it was the end for my ROG phone just after 7 days of purchase. However in after 3 dry days, everything is normal once again. I guess I was lucky. The condensation has gone away completely. I do not have any spec pf dust in my camera under the glass. The power button is working good once again :good:

Were you using the cooler fan on it? Im just wondering if dust got forced into the phone via the gaming cooler??
I havent used the cooler on my ROG2 yet, after seeing this i'm quite reluctant to use it too..... :crying:

Put in a bag of uncooked rice to absorb the moisture... Might work, leave it for a long time tho, perhaps in a warm spot too

Putting the device in a bag of rice does not absorb moisture according to new facts and proof. They are claiming this method as myth and just nonsense.

Rice does nothing man. farks sake all you ricer peeps are brainwashed.

I just received the replacement. If this also acquires dust i will update the post after a few days of use ( i also have taped the orange accented back opening just to be safe ). As for the red tint, its still there but much less as compared to my previous device, so this confirms this is a panel behavior, which means if you are planning to replace the device it might be good or bad ie the new device might have less tint or more tint.

I doubt it's panel behaviour. Since I did more test and for me i suspect it's software behaviour, because white theme gives 0 red tint.
Only on grey scale red tint shows more.

That is the actual issue. Irrespective of any theme or skin. Any dark grey turns reddish on low brightness and high refresh rate. Any other color is unaffected, so why would white turn red?

Replacing Front Housing on i9020T

So i picked up a Nexus S i9020T for a price that was steal in any working condition. The screen on it is great, no scratches and I've read the thread regarding the battery door and I'm going to order the rear door from Samsung under a warranty replacement for $16.
That leaves me with the front housing ring around the screen... I see that iFixit's tear down shows them using a heat gun at that step. Is the display connected to the front housing ring with adhesive? For showing a picture of using a heat gun they were mum on exactly what it was needed to pull apart. If it is the ring connecting to the screen, will I lose all adhesive to the old ring by pulling these two apart?
Here's a link to the part below on Global Parts Direct. I'm probably going to replace the back plate with the camera lense too but that seemed self explanatory.
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Samsung-Nexus-S-GT-I9020T-Front-Housing-p/smsng6098620.htm
I could avoid all of this via a case but I'm just not a case type of guy...
I can't really help with your question but where can you find the back piece with camera lense? I've scratched the ring around the camera lense and was trying to find a replacement.

Check the link to the website above, Global Direct parts has the midplate with and without the lense. I didn't look close enough to see if they had just the lense. They seem to be on some sort of holiday and aren't shipping right now but judging from the verbage on their website they'll be back up and running in a few weeks.
Keep the answers coming folks... Surely I'm not the only person that has "refurbed" a scratched front housing ring.
Well I ordered the back from Samsung as a "warranty" replacement. So does anyone know if theres another place other than Global Direct Parts that has the front ring? I don't see any parts available at CNN.CN or Truesupplier.com
And again if anyone knows what the glue situation is going to be like, I'd love to get some feedback on that.
Get ready for the pain of a lifetime. I replaced the front bezel on a galaxy s (they're glued the exact same way) and it is an absolutely terrible experience. I wish you the best of luck because I've seen many people crack the screen while doing so.

So how did those people reattach the screen to the bezel?
Yeah I also been wondering the same thing and from my reseach I think that its not a strong glue but rather a adhesive thats not very strong. A hair dryer on a low setting will do the samething in helping to separating the parts. You can always contact the people at ifixit to find out how it is really attach.

anyway - I wanna replace the bezel too...but havent found anything. let's keep eachother up to date here.
I work at a service and repair store and already tore mine open. The bezel around the screen is the scariest part. Its easy tho, just use a guitar pick and go all the way around the ring. It just snaps in. may help to take the back of the phone off while your doing it.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Its attached with a fairly mild adhesive, I got the screen/bezel apart on my i9023 without using any heat just leveraging it off a little at a time. If I was going to do it again I would use a little heat.
When I replaced my screen all the adhesive stuck to the screen not the bezel. I used a heat gun on low heat to transfer it over to the new screen. It worked but I couldnt get it all over. If you are going to heat it I would recommend it being fairly low, not hot enough to burn your hand.
I bought a replacement front bezel for an i9020T from global direct a few months ago hoping that it would fit my i9023. It doesn't. All yours if you pay postage, Im in Australia.

Note 4 dust on front facing camera

I just noticed a white spec of dust in front of the front facing camera inside the glass. I'm pissed. I didn't notice this before, wondering if dust is getting inside the case from the edges that we know have a tiny gap in them. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there from camera glued inside the case? Debating opening the case up to clear the dust but that's only possible if it's just mounted in front of the camera hole from the back and not glued in there. Ideas?

I would just take it back where you got and complain. If you ordered it call customer care and politely tell them. I think if you open it up if you can then more dust will get in. I guess on the bright side it's on the front camera. Can you tell a lot on the pictures? I don't have any dust in mine. *Knocks on wood* I have the issue with past phones though not just Samsung phones.
I got it from tmobile online. On the phone with them now but getting the run around. So annoying. I've never had this problem with any Samsung phone either ...

The device came defective ur in your 14 day. Tell them to replace it or you will go to the BBB and report them.
well, its samsung, not apple, you can't expect stelar customer support.
This is why most people go with apple phones, they like the customer service.
I was able to replaces iPhones, ipads etc from the apple store in 15 mins...
After the honeymoon is over (14 days) with any samsung products they will put you through hell to get a replacement.
All you can do is call and call and try to get it replaced, I would be extremely pissed if I got a flaw on 750 dollar phone and got the run around from them.
Yeah go buy an iPhone that needs replacing every other month. Good luck doing anything with it.

How could the OP go to the BBB when the business is not even business accredited?
Anyway the good news is that the BBB accepts complaints whether or not the business is a BBB Accredited Business.

There are many possibilities in how dust may have encroached on your device. There are many areas on the device exposed to open air such as the areas related to gapgate, in and around the ear piece, around the home button, and through the back cover (on the top right, some devices have a prominent opening; the light from the LED indicator leaks through, the degree of light leakage varies from Note 4 to Note 4 where the worse was on the AT&T variant). That's what happens when a customer is too anal over their devices.
However the following statement may keep you calm; these are manufacturing issues which Samsung will never address because we're talking Samsung. Run through each thread discussing issues on Galaxy Devices and you'll see what I mean though I never came across dust on any of my devices so that raises a red flag.
If you're within your 14 days, return the defective unit through Tele-sales over the phone, do not go after an exchange order, and park yourself directly in front of a Brick and Mortor T-Mobile Store. Good Luck!
Apple doesn't have much inconsistency across their quality control process, however, I'm sure none of us would have want to get near the iOS ecosystem.

it isnt water resistant. many claim that motorola "coated" the n6, but motorola never ever stated that they did, nor ever stated that it is at all waterproof. i know that videos exiat showing this on a n6, but they were all just lucky at first, as many more people have ruined their phones.

oh, the internet also says that bigfoot had a baby with a teenage detroit girl.. dont flat out blindly believe everything thats written in the internet.
how did the picture come out?
JK.. bro your screwed. they say put it in a jar of rice immediately.
good luck
Rice doesn't work, trust me, I fix phones and tablets and PCs' for a living. The nexus 6 was touted, early on, as being mildly water resistant as it supposedly had a special coating applied internally to protect the mother board from minimal moisture penetration. It was never once, listed as water proof. Or even water resistant, for that matter. Most likely, your device is dead. Trying to charge or turn on a water damaged phone, is the absolute worst thing you can do. Rice is a myth. Immediately dry the phone with a hair dryer or, preferably, a heat gun. Then bring it to a repair center that does water damage repairs. Even then, there are no guarantees that it will recover or even if it does, I doubt any repair center will guarantee that it will continue to work.
I recommend that you bring it to a repair center and let them try.
As far as I have seen directly on Moto's website, the N6 is water resistant. Not water proof.
Liquipel is likely why it is water resistant. I have tested mine and had absolutely no issues. http://www.liquipel.com/
With that said, I still do not ever suggest submerging your device. Even if it is advertised as water resistant simply because it is electronic and things can fail.
I worked for SES for a good amount of time and even told people to never purposely submerge their "Water Resistant" phones. The resistance is only for accidents like dropping in a puddle or similar things.
So... OP... Your fault. Sorry..
Ok thanks for all your answer seriously. I appreciate it very much, just called Googled and they said that is water resistant and you can put for a very little while the phone in the water, not in a deep way (like me). So i call Amazon (i bought it from there) and after the explanation they will replace the item in a few days after this weekend. So problem solved guys, i promise to NOT put nevermore N6 in the water. Dry as desert
if it ever was water resistant, i cant really tell you how much. but ive had mine for nearly 9 months now, and it has no physical damage on it, but the back cover raised slightly, just enough to make it go a millimeter or so above the back in the very middle. so, if it ever was water resistant, it isnt anymore

It's not a sealed water resistance even in perfect condition. Go look at my link a few posts back. It's a molecular coating that makes water roll off the device and internal components.

(UK) Screen Knight Edge-to-Edge Screen Protector

If you're in the UK and desperate to get your screen protected until something better comes along, I can personally recommend this product.
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161994219563&alt=web
It is of the wet apply variety however what I like about this is it has very low friction (rubbery feel) under finger like some other I've experienced in the past. Seller is UK based. I collected from Argos the day after I ordered it.
I've had Zagg in the past and considering how much they charge this is somewhat comparable in terms of quality. For £4 it will more than suffice until (read if) a decent tempered one hits the shelves.

Perseverance to be honest. I found that the main screen piece held in place quickest. I squeegeed out excess liquid via the edges. Then started to work on the edges. Took a few attempts but eventually the edges held good enough in place. For several hours after while watching TV I used a combination of thumbs and fingers to smooth out any noticeable liquid. I also used a rubber pencil eraser to smooth out. Kept working on the edges too. I'm a bit anal about things like this so I kept at it until the whole screen surface was satisfactory to me lol. Next day it had cured fully.
Just found my first issue with these . Put in my pocket while I biked to work took out of pocket when at work and it had lifted. And also it's scratched like mad I know it's meant to protect the screen underneath but it looks awful. Also if it scratches in my pocket what's it going to do if it meets anything sharp. Think I'll be looking for something else. Gutted

Must've been chaffing on the phone quite a bit for it to lift! I can run my finger quite hard against the edge and no lift. I can see what you mean about the other issue though. I'm using mine with the Clear View case from Samsung so hadn't noticed. Ran my finger nail down the screen protector and it does seem to leave a little mark. It's protecting the screen so I can't complain too much plus you only notice the marks when angled in the right light.
As I say, for £4 - which is basically nothing - and quick UK delivery, for me I'm treating this as a cheap and quick method of protecting the screen until something better comes along.

Ordered one too. Only £6 for screen only.

one feature that is worth the 850 eu I spent

is to make the shower seeing a you tube video. Gorgeous.
Lol , it is good to know that you are happy with this excellent device!?
I have watched videos in showers already for years with $0.02 Ziploc bags, not sure why you would spent €850 for that...
Not sure this merited a new thread, but congrats anyways OP! It's a great device

Lol....me too
Sent from my God Mode 8
the question is how much time do you spend in the shower?
but i wont ask what type of video it was.
well I love that, I guess with protective bags you cannot swipe so well, then I love when the small drops goes to the screen. and you see some pixel enlarged because of the drop. so you just swipe your palm over and is fresh again., of course I do not put directly under the water but enough a bit far. I was thinking to build a super small shelve on the wall so that I can put it there with a special 45 degrees cover, pretty nice
I think there are gadgets for this very purpose, to attach cell phones to walls, specially tile covered ones
For those who like to live in the dangerous side of things...
Lol, ?but OP may not have a bath tub!

You realize the note 8 is only water resistant not proof The tests done on these devices are done in a control tank of standing water The water resistancy is rated at 0 water pressure Well what ever is standing water at 1.5 m
But showers are considered pressurized which means water can ingress inside device as well as oxidize the USB and Contacts in headphone jack...
Samsung will not warranty water damage
OP never mentioned showering the device, just that he uses it while he is showering, that is why he thought about a shelf or something of the sort

OP, one question, do you use a case?

Interesting point, thank you to advice on that, better to prevent.
as winol said I am not exposing it directly, but well some drop of course goes on it,
(and thank yuou Winol for the tip to attach it on a wall, really smart)
I would do it now only once in a while, and will take care to distantiate as much as possible from the shower. and will take the end from the usb/headphone part, thank you very much for your contributions, a funny post revealed to be useful for OP and the others
