I came from the 3xl to the 4xl and my battery life is definitely better than it ever was with the 3xl, even when it was new.
And I'm forcing 90hz, use aod and have my screen brightness set to 90.
Don't worry yourself, it's a terrific phone and the battery is fine.
This weekend I unplugged at 8 am Saturday morning and 46 HOURS later I had 6% left. This is obviously an outlier and not typical but still outstanding. I ended the period with about 5 hr 40 minutes of screen time with some navigation, some streaming, and otherwise mostly just web surfing/Facebook etc. Since getting my phone last Wednesday, with usage similar to the above, I am averaging about 3.0% per hour after 16 hours and 4-4.5 hours of screen time at the of the day (left with 45%-50% charge).
THis is simply outstanding and better than any other phone I've ever owned. My Pixel 2XL a couple of weeks after I got it and under similar usage conditions would end the day at ~30%. I have no idea why all these reviewers are digging the battery life. Maybe I just got lucky. Who knows. Regardless, I'm glad I bought it in spite of all the bad reviews. Amazing phone.
It’s not terrible but it is sub-par IMO.

Pixels direct competing is iPhones. The new ones touch 10 hours of SOT. Something we expect from Google as well! But it can barely reach 6. Which is a shame.

I wouldn't call the a 5-6 SOT for the 4 XL par. A lot of Android flagships are getting 6-7 or more SOT.

Correct the iPhone 11 models are getting 10 hours SOT without trying but that's not par at all. If battery life is a bell curve, that's on the far right and not average at all.

Some getting 6/7 . I never got more than 5 or 6 on my OnePlus but that didn't get crap about battery life. People have just assumed looking at the specs it's going to be worse but it ain't. The S10 had average battery too. Just saying

If the S10 Plus is average (https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/review/screen-time-t3905264), the Pixel 4 XL is easily below it.

So I've got to the guy that asks this:
What on earth do you folks that want 10 hours out of a charge doing? I've had days where I've gotten bleary-eyed from playing on my phone (streaming videos, web browsing, etc.). The very longest one of those days was about 6 hours and that was when I was traveling back home from Singapore (a 27 hour trip all told). I mean, do you all live with your noses buried in your phones?
I'm not trying to be a jerk so please don't take it that way. I honestly just can't imagine what one does on a phone that racks up that kind of usage.

Just an FYI, draining your battery that low and charging it to max 100 is the fastest way to degrade it. Ideally you want to stay in between 20-80%. This is the typical nature of all lithium batteries.
On pace for 9 hours SOT over 29 hours with heavy usage and everything but AOD enabled (tap, wake and lift all on - just no AOD itself)
Idk what everyone is doing but the battery on this is fine and the phone is awesome

And iPhones got a larger battery capacity. With 3700 mAh instead of their 4000mAh they would be on par with Pixel 4 XL. This has to be taken into account. So what you are saying only holds true die to the larger capacity in the iPhone, otherwise runtime is the same.

Come on guys. He's just asking about how good or bad the battery is overall.
Doesn't have to come up with iPhone Samsung etc.
For me it's good enough period
I'm happy as long as a phone lasts a good solid day. Like most people I charge my phone every night.
Not much use lasting 1.2 or 1.5 days cause it will need charging during the second day ?

So you are convincing yourself if other phones are average then it's okay for pixel to have average battery life as well? This is no justification. I feel the pixel 4xl is having the same battery life as 2xl. I get about 5-6 hours of SOT but on heavy days my phone died early. Would i like to buy a phone in 2019-20 which dies around half a day? No sir thank you. No matter how fast is it's charging speed is.

It's not that people want 10 hours SOT in one day, it's 10 hours SOT in a single charge. Meaning it's possibly to get 24-36 hours off the charger or even just end the day no problem with 40-50% and 5 hours SOT. These are things the iPhone 11 Pro Max is capable off this year so everyone's comparing it to the the new bar.

Agreed! It's compared with iPhones because they are the top brand everyone is fighting against. And Google started directly competing with them since pixel 1. The price was hiked accordingly. So the comparison is natural.
Oh that's sad! I think it's because of the 90hz screen. That is the reason I'm not happy with Google. Pixel 3xl and 4xl both have battery life inferior to 2xl. This should be the opposite.

Ok, maybe it does suck for all users, so the title may be a little misleading, but for those worried about purchasing because of battery life, depending on your usage, the Nexus 5 isn't that bad.
I previously owned an iPhone 5, and after having made the jump to Android finally, I was worried about battery life. Specifically because its my understanding that Android does background tasking differently than iPhone. Well, after having my Nexus 5 for almost 2 weeks now, I must say that I'm impressed with the results. The short version: after getting my Nexus 5 set up to do all that I basically would do on my iPhone on a regular day, the Nexus 5 stomps all over my iPhone 5's battery life.
Not sure exactly how to go into details, but my basic usage is that I work typically 5 hours a day. by the end of my 5 hour shift, and after having barely used my phone during that time, it was a good day if my battery was left with anything over 35%. Keep in mind that I would always have my phone charged at 100% before work, and since im on sprint, my area doesn't even have LTE yet, so I can't use that as an excuse for drain. Though to be fair, my iPhone 5's have both had issues (I've swapped it out once already hoping it was just my phone)
anyways, lately ive been getting full time hours for the holidays, and since I have my nexus 5, I leave my phone fully charged before work. during a 12 hour day, my nexus 5 still had 51% battery life, versus my iPhone only having 25-45% during a 5 hour shift. Granted, this is through light use (a typical day of not accessing my phone much, only checking one mail gets pushed through, texts, and the occasional quick google search lookup here and there)
I am very well aware that the battery drains a lot faster during screen on time, but you have to consider how much bigger the screen is in comparison, and the resolution. But, with that said, screen on time, even game usage, I see the Nexus 5 battery life last longer than my iPhone 5 ever did.
So, for those coming from an iPhone specifically, and scared by all the "this is my battery life" posts everywhere, keep in mind what exactly it is a user is doing on their phone, and a simple screenshot isn't enough to detail what the battery life entails. I'd like to also point out that I haven't really done any of the basic power saving tweaks yet either, so I am excited to mess around with my phone some more as well. Ive also noticed that in the battery settings you can go into each app and see exactly what some apps are doing that are draining your battery. This is dependent on the app, and it mostly just gives you how much data an app used, how long it was accessing something (for instance, cpu, GPS, etc)
These are two different phones, and in particular, two different worlds basically. You can't really compare battery life between the two because they function differently in their own ways. But you can't judge the Nexus 5 battery life on what others say they get either. It all depends on what you are doing exactly. So when you see those screenshots, make sure to get all the info on usage first, before assuming the Nexus 5 battery is poor. I'm not saying its going to last you all day, because again, depending on your usage, the battery just might suck. But I personally know when I am going to game or do something heavy, no matter what phone, it's going to need to be recharged eventually anyway.
Huh ?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I find the battery life to be very good on my Nexus 5 too. More often I'm getting 2 days easy. That's with little use through day time, and heavy web, facebook, email and quick game or 2 in the evenings. Sometimes all that and even have 20% left!
My last phone was the HTC One-X with the 1800mah battery and it would struggle with a full day.
Are you kidding me? iPhone's battery life is atrocious! No real iPhone user would actually be worried about battery life because they always keep their phone plugged in so that they won't have to worry about their stupid little battery. To be fair, it's quite a feat for the iPhone to handle all that technology on such a small battery but realistically, everybody I know who owns an iPhone regardless of generation always complain that their phone's battery is weak and they either have to keep it charged all the time or carry around external chargers.
I think iPhone users should consider other things such as moving to a different OS and how maybe some of their favourite apps won't be available to them anymore. They shouldn't have to worry about battery life at all.
I've received my N5 last week and yea I find battery life crap...

it kinda sucks if u ask me..i have to constantly charge it every now and then
The battery life is good in comparison to my former Samsung Galaxy S3 Well, it´s not as good as a Samsung Galaxy Note III or similar huge device with a huge built in battery but to be honest, as a customer you knew before the purchase what you had to expect
If you use a good custom kernel, disable processes you don´t need and don´t play games all the time, the battery life of the Nexus 5 is good enough.
im getting great battery life with my N5.. better then my htc one and gs4... yea im rocking franco kernel which is a kick a$$ kernel but even b4 i rooted it i was getting great battery life.. i never use GPS.. i NEVER have ishh syncing in the backround.. i dont go on facebook from my phone..
I would say the Nexus 5 battery is average or slightly above average. It does not suck but it is not great either. Its on par with other phones with the same size screen and battery.
It seems to me that the ones complaining about the battery life are coming from other android devices which, depending on the device, might have had a bigger battery to begin with, other optimizations, etc.
Then some of the ones praising the battery (like myself) have probably come from smaller devices, like the iPhone (such as myself lol).
I just wanted to post this to point out for those that were like me and worried about it. There are still things I don't like about android, but I'm trying to give it a chance and keep the switch. I just got sick of the iOS environment.

I feel like I am the only person on earth who actually doesn't the iphone has bad battery life. (maybe that's because I had galaxy phones up until my iphone 5 and 5s and was blown away at how long it lasted) i could easily go 2 days on a charge, not that I ever did unless I had to. but anyway I digress.
I would say my Nexus battery is more than adequate for what I need. I am a heavy user, especially yesterday it was constant twitter/instagram/texting etc... And I got over 13 hours with 3+ hours of screen time.

I know the difference in the battery.
But coming from a Note 3 to N5 is a major downgrade for me.
My N4 and N5 has no difference at all in battery life.
I love my N5 for the OS with Google experience, give me a rom like that for my note 3 and I wouldn't even keep my N5. That why I bought the n5, I'm bored of all the crap Samsung put in my note 3.
1.2gb vs 300mb, that's the roms size difference between both... But yea at the moment I'm keeping both device for daily use.

I think the phone's OS itself is quite optimized and I was expecting far worse battery life since I am coming from a Note 2. To my surprise, it's not bad at all. I've not experienced many wakelocks, and my cell reception is, on a scale of 1-10 avg about 7. I've disabled the recommended location stuff and wifi scanning, and I'd say it's doing quite well. I've also installed Lux to minimize screen brightness and it helps a bit.
Overall, I will say the battery life is adequate, considering how thin and light this phone is. If you really need the battery life, get a Note 3 or a battery pack.
I don't have any battery issues personally but I see a few people do but I do know a few things that cause it.
The new GPS menu is misleading, you want to have it on Battery Saver, not High Accuracy, that there will drain your battery alone.
Turn off NFC when not in use.
Just a few things.

battery life is a big improvement for me over my old galaxy s3. I can actually make phone calls send text, surf and watch youtube and have about 3.5-4h hours of time on screen with about 16 hours of being unplugged.
Funny - it's the second best phone I've had. I had no problem getting 3 days out of my HTC One GPE, and I have no problem getting 2 days out of my Nexus 5.
My absolute worst battery day was 15 hours, 20 minutes to 5% battery. That consisted of 4 hours, 31 minutes screen-on time, with literally 100% of that time consisting of running benchmarks (mostly 3dmark and geekbench). Since then, I haven't had a single day - even relatively heavy phone-use days, with 2+ hours of screen-on time - where I've gone below 50% before bed. Other than the HTC One GPE, this is the first phone I can say that about.
According to BetterBatteryStats, my battery drain RARELY reaches 2%/hr.
Anyone complaining about battery life on this phone likely has either a battery issue, a rogue process, or they use it a LOT more heavily than they think... Just my 2 cents.
One last thing, for absolute transparency - The first thing I do with ANY new Nexus device is turn it on to make sure it works, unlock the bootloader, and immediately flash the factory image. Between a Nexus One, 2 Nexus S's, 2 Galaxy Nexuses, 3 Nexus 4's, 2 2012 Nexus 7's, a Nexus 10, and now my Nexus 5, the only device to ever have a problem is my wife's Nexus S, which suddenly stopped turning on one day. Worked perfectly, battery died, then... nothing, ever again.
Hello everyone! I'm thinking of getting rid of my Note 4 and getting either a Xperia Z3 or a Nexus 6. Don't get me wrong, the Note 4 is a great device, but for the money, the amount of lag and terrible low-light and indoor pictures and pretty bad battery life is just too much for me.
The most important things for me are:
Battery life
Performance (multitasking)
Camera
All the blogs said the Note 4 was the device for me, but over the last 3 roms I haven't been able to fix ANY of these issues.
How's the Nexus 6? Are you guys generally speaking happy with it? Has anyone played with the Note 4 and could maybe shine some light on their opinion and experiences? Thanks!
UPDATE:

I've had the note 4. Lived the screen and the software actually wasn't half bad but there was lag, especially in the multitasking section. Also battery life was pretty bad and the phone heated up substantially even with little usage and of course saying that it's not on latest android software (which isn't a big thing for most). Just got the nexus 6 a few days and was completely blown away by how solid it is. Speakers are much louder than the HTC one m8 in certain situations (Spotify streaming seems to be on par) but in the vine app the videos are super loud and clear. Being on latest software is great and the screen itself being a 6 inch 2k display is very useful and not over kill at all although I do with the screen was more on the cooler side. Last but not least the development community of course is outstanding in the nexus community so overall the nexus is a solid choice. I've also had the z2 which is the same as the z3 is great but if your a modder/developer than you'll stay away as there isn't much. Only thing going for the z3 is the screen and battery life. I consistently got over 5 to 6 hours of screen on time on the z2 stock which I miss but not enough to go back lol

Batterylife is about 4-5 hours screenontime depending on usage off course. And for me the camera is quite good (not Galaxy S6 good) especialy with sufficient light, pics are crisp and detailled and colors are quite accurate. I`ve had all the Notes too but the N6 will grow on you i`am sure. And it has very good speakers btw.
Camera is great, but I'm not a "picture taker". Love the app, A Better Camera. Takes full advantage of all 13mp. Battery life varies heavily on kernel and the settings you chose. I can go a couple days. I don't really worry about battery life though. Ex. I had 12% and ran a short errund, 20 min at most. When I got back battery was 93%. Hail to the turbo charge...

Lol well I never take pictures. I did however take a few shots when I got it. The pictures seem good but then again I'm no professional. The battery life is OK to say the least when I first got it but it settled down after a few days. I'm now on chroma ROM stock nothing changed but the rom itself and I just pushed over 5 hours SOT. On bone stock before I rooted I believe I was getting a little over 3 hours with heavy gmail refreshing/internet browsing(chrome)/xda /YouTube watching and mostly all on T-Mobile LTE with db of around -109 to -112 at the place I work so id say it's pretty good honestly. If you root and ROM like most people do then you'll exceed those stock limitations for sure as evidence of me.

I don't like to mod or root my devices. So it would have to be stock everything. Camera performance is important to me, as is the ability to spend the day being able to take pictures. I could kill my phone with an afternoon of capturing some snapshots. Haha.
Knowing that I wouldn't root my device, would you still recommend it? ^_^ thanks.

Yeah definitely. The phone itself is a beast. Love the form factor, the screen, the speakers, stock software. The camera itself is fast and very simplistic, although it could use more manual camera options like the s6, but I'm sure you can download a camera off the play store with such options and of course you can record video in 4k so overall its not a bad contender what so ever.

Just got my N6 Wednesday. Completely stock I'm getting 6-7 hrs sot. Web browsing, YouTube etc. Camera is OK but it's not something that is important to me. I don't take many pictures. Quick charge works well. I came from a note 3. It was a good phone but I like this phone better. Better battery life than I ever got with the N3.
Stock... You've got a great camera. Again battery life is good, its a rather hefty one, but depends on you. How you use it, WiFi vs data, downloads, streaming etc. Basically battery life is in your control.

I understand that. That's why I'm so ticked about note 4... My usage is minimal. I am on Wi-Fi 90% of the time. My phone has been off the charger for an hour and this is the first time I've picked it up in an hour and it's already down 4%. Samsung did something horribly wrong.
I also have an awesome Nokia dt-903 wireless charger which I miss using since I switched my Nokia 1520. Haha. So as long as battery is good enough to last a day with normal usage, like taking some pictures, browsing the web for 20 minutes a day, and answering whatsapp and line messages throughout the day, then I'm happy. I`am sure the N6 will not be a letdown i`am sure, i would advice to buy the 64GB version (if available) as there is no sdcard tray to expand memory. As for the size you`re hands and brain will be used to it within 2 days and after that most other phones will look tiny

Haha. No doubt. I have the note 4 now. Before I had the Nokia 1520, another 6 inch device. But that one wouldn't allow me to sit down with the phone in my pocket. Haha. And I was counting on getting the 64gb model. ?

For sure. Unfortunately Verizon only had 32gb. That being said I have had phone a while and have multirom with 2 extras. Still over 17gb left. If you need it, get it!

$50 price difference is nothing. I remember "needing" 64 on iPhone 5S and paid, what 200 more. Foolish

Note looks like a great phone. If I had TMO or Sprint it would of been a tough call. Do they still have external SD?

Yep. I toyed with the idea of a note 4, then I remembered id had a Samsung before.

Thanks!

I did this switch and haven't looked back since dropping my note 4 for the nexus 6.
I've had the Note 4 , 2 of them between me and my GF, and have been using the Nexus 6 for about 3 weeks now..
My Note 4 experience has been nothing like the OP. I got great battery ( mostly on LTE all day ...RF around -90 to -105db ...SOT almost 7 hrs), neither of the two Notes heated up to an uncomfortable level, the camera on both N4s has been stellar and way better than the Nexus 6 ! The Note 4 had a bit of lag but that was resolved ( at least for me ) when animations were toned down to 0.5x under Developer Options.
If camera, especially in low light situations, and battery are your priorities, stay away from the Nexus 6 ! I love the Nexus 6 but not for its camera or battery.
If it wasn't my impatience for the latest FW w/o rooting, I would have def. kept the Note 4 ! I wish there was a GPE version of the N4!!
I have no experience with the Z3, so can't comment on that device.

Samsung is a good phone. TMO and Sprint service is pathetic. At least here. So having Verizon I went with S5 after years of apple. Glad I did. And thanks to whomever, I was able to get a developer ed. I do miss sdcard a little, but removable battery was NICE. Hardly ever had to charge. Just swap to a fresh bat. I think Sammy is going away from those perks now so now it would be an easy choice....
Yeah, that's what I keep hearing. I guess I'll stick with my Note 4 a little while longer to see what happens with Samsung and their ROMS.
I went to a shop yesterday and did a camera test, and wow... I mean, the detail on the Nexus 6 is fine... But ... What a difference in camera quality...
I've been having horrible battery life on Pie. I started on a clean slate then restored through smart switch. I'm getting max 5 hours of SOT on pie whereas I always got 8+ hours on oreo. I don't know if it's just me or anyone else is experiencing the same. Please share your battery stats so we can average out the outcome. If this continues, I'm definitely odining back to oreo.
Thanks

Nope, I am At&t went back to Oreo. Wasn't getting anywhere close to the 8 to 10hr screen times as a see some have. Best I could get was about 5hrs..granted I would have about 6hrs call time which is ok I guess, but still Oreo was better for me. But then again I never let my battery drop below 20% and I usually only charge to 90%..I never let it get down to the single digits.

I'm on T-Mo and have great battery life. 8-10 hours SOT. Mix of WiFi and LTE.
Actuakky I'd say an estimated 8-10 hours. I use the phone pretty heavy throughout the day. I'm on it for a couple hours after I wake up. Posting on here, reading my Bible app, checking the news, etc.
Then I go to the gym and stream music through Bluetooth for a couple hours. I usually check my phone occasionally and take calls while there.
Then I randomly get on it throughout the day and evening at home.
I average 1 hour of screen time per 10% of battery, but I haven't been able to kill the battery before bed to see the full 10 hours of SOT. And I charge over night. Though I have left it off the charger by accident and still woke up with a plenty of juice.
This phone is a beast that sips battery. And my Note 8 is doing just as well on Pie.
I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm just saying something must be going on with your particular phone.

Or possibly an app that is not Pie friendly.
Exynos, always almost max brightness QHD+ and 50/50 4G+/wifi, 512/8 version

I'm getting 7hrs 40mins average SOT
Exynos the battery is quite good.
Dual sim always, location high + wifi scan when wifi off, max resolution on (WQHD+), no AOD
On 4G i get around 5 hours SOT and on WIFI around 6 SOT
Those that are getting 8hours+ probably sometimes they are using the phone in airplane mode with WIFI enabled or not at all and a lot other things that they do not mention so please do not take them as "normal" people because it's not fair what they are presenting and does not reflect a normal day to day user.
As some noted, depending on the usage - the battery life on pie is worse vs oreo. For me it's also worse as I multitask a lot. The SOC CPU control is tuned differently for more performance. Sadly, it's leading to worse battery life while still lags massively behind the snapdragon 845 in performance. Luckily - it's a little bit faster. This is the reason why most likely those reports about lower battery life on pie will come from mainly exynos note 9 owners.
For me and my usage, it's not massively lower, but surely it's noticeable lower usage before need for recharge vs oreo. It's still ok. I am not so ok with the gutted multiwindow functionality and the rushed/bugged state (and that's funny given how many months the PIE update was in development + the beta).
I also saw some recent tests of those with exynos and update Pie with Antutu around 260000 compared to the test made on Oreo around 244000. It sees the CPU and GPU increase and a consistent decrease to UX and MEM.

Actually depends on the apps you're using, on wifi I got very high battery without airplane mode, which can make me go to 10 hrs of screen on
Hello,
Just curious from people that may have tested both. How does the battery compare between the two? I just ordered the S10 but am second guessing due to the size of the battery in the Plus. The smaller pixel the battery is trash compared to the XL. Was wondering if the same is the case for the S10 vs the S10+
Thanks

I think it is going to be a little more than try, return and upgrade to compare the difference. Hopefully someone has tried both through multiple charging cycles because that's what it takes for a battery to settle in.

Yeah I'll probably try the s10 for a week then decide. All the reviews I've watched are on the S10+. Not many reviewing the S10.
I'm hoping the S10 has decent battery. Had the note and 6t. It's been a while since I've had a smaller phone. I want to try.

I ordered the S10 hoping I would get at least what I got on the S9. Every now and then I don't make it through a day with the S9 but I mostly do. I'm hoping with the slightly larger battery in the S10 vs the S9 I may see a little improvement. The S10e is the size phone I wanted and has the flat screen, but the smaller battery drove me away from it.
I haven't compared but right now I'd say the batterife on my plus is not as good as I was hoping. I've had it since March 6th and it's been worse than my Note 9 and way worse than my Huawei Mate 20 pro. I hope it gets better with time. My pixel 3 was horrid for the first week or so but improved dramatically soon after

Any updates? Just got it and it's only 5 hours screen on time, waaaay worse than my POCOPHONE. Is there any difference after a while? Thanks
I'm not impressed at all with my S10+
Way worse than I expected
Here is mine, been on battery for over 24 hours with AOD on from 7am to 1am. 2 sim cards in the phone. On WiFi mainly. Browsing forums and watching YouTube vanced dark mode, Samsung browser on dark mode most of the time. I think mines not too shabby, ive seen someone get 15 hours, don't know how. As long as I can get through a day with the battery I'm ok.

5 hours SOT? I've seen tests over 8. And my Poco has 8+ hours. I was expecting at least the same
Content with my S10+ SD - stil selling it, but otherwise no complaints. I use bluetooth (Galaxy Buds) regularly for calls and music. This was a lighter day for me. Owned the phone since launch.

Unfortunately I ended up returning my s10. Battery life was never that great and I was impressed with the phone over the Note 9. Think I'm just gonna wait for the Note 10 at this point.
I have a Pixel 3 XL. Should I upgrade to the 4 XL? I love my phone, don't really care about the 90hz display, don't care about soli or face unlock. I do like the lack of the notch but my real reason would be the battery life. Has anyone went from the 3 XL to the 4 XL and noticed an improvement in battery? I know opinions are subjective but do the 200Mah increase in battery and new processer make a good impact on battery life? Any opinions or insight are greatly appreciated!

I did, but only because after one year, I got a REALLY good trade value for the 3XL and the 4XL was $200 off. (do not trade-in at Google) For about the first week I had it, I was jonesing for my old fingerprint sensor. Then face unlock got really good. Eerily good, like if I look at my phone on the stand or even laying flat on my desk, it unlocks. Screen is absolutely gorgeous and sharp as a tack. As for battery, I think the 4 is slightly better. With the 3 after 12 hours at work, I would be down to 20% on average, sometimes less. With the 4 that is now averaging mid-30's. Scientific.... no, but after using the 4 for 4 solid months it is never as low as the 3.. Could be the 3 was a year old... could be my 4 had 106% batttery capacity (Accubattery) when I bought it, but on measure it feels a bit. Should boil down to money. If you can sell your 3 and get a $200 deal or better off the 4 then go for it. If you are looking to just trade into Google and get boned on price, then I would wait for deep discounts when the 4a's arrive. Hope this helps.

Extremely helpful, thank you!
I get better on the 4XL but it's not a big difference. In both cases turning off AOD added 30ish minutes of screen; they really need to improve on that. I otherwise have everything on both now and then and end up around 4 to 5 hours on an average day of mixed use which is about 30 more than before with the 3XL. For me this is good enough since phones charge so quickly nowadays and I'm usually by an outlet and otherwise have a 10k brick in my messenger bag when I'm going to be flying and that sort of thing. Not that I wouldn't take more but I can work with what that.

You can get screen on of 10 hours or screen on of 2 hours, it's entirely based upon your usage which no one else will be able to match

I upgraded from the 3XL and never regretted it. It's the last Google flagship for a while at least, so if you find a good deal, go for it! Battery is slightly better, but the overall experience is way better in my opinion, although these things are very subjective.
PS: You don't have to put up with the notch by the way. Use the settings in Developer Options to cover it.

I've no idea if that is true or not; people have lots of different usage cases and will get different screen times. I tend to run at the bottom of the pack with every phone I own, I like to use my toys so I don't turn much of anything off and have a smartwatch and other devices constantly in use. It isn't really surprising that I dont do as well as the ordinary owner.
I've got to agree with the fellow above though, the 4XL is significantly better in use. It isn't any one thing I'd point at, everything is a little step better. If the phone had been released at mid range pricing to match it's rather modest spec it would have been the hottest phone of 19 and had rave reviews.
