Pixel 4xl question - dead pixels? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

Has anyone seen this issue after the update? There is a little notch in the bottom right of my screen. My wife's Pixel 4xl is not doing this. apologize If this is something that im not familiar with

Nope. Mine is fine. That's definitely a hardware related problem

Confirmation of above, no such issue.

Looks like a defect to me, get it exchanged

Had the same issue with my Pixel 3. Oled hardware defect.
Got it exchanged.
It's a shame this kind of issue still exists in the 4xl.

With Amoled, is it possible to have a lit dead pixel

Hello everybody.
As said in the title, my question is :
With Amoled, is it possible to have a lit dead pixel ?
Thank you for your answers.
Have you tested on your phone for dead pixels ? or just speculating ?

Dead pixel means permanently unlit.
Stuck pixel means permanently lit.
is there any way to fix stuck pixels?

By running an app such as Pixel Curer or Dead Pixel Detect and Fix located here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.xllusion.app.pixelcurer&feature=related_apps
Or
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.htc.chris.blackspotdetect&feature=also_installed
Though removing the dead/stuck pixels is not guaranteed it's worth a try running the above programs.
The only other alternative is buying a new screen.
Best of luck.

I am speculating because I'm planning to have my screen changed because of banding issue, but I would not like to have a stuck pixel on the new screen.

I personally would not risk it....bandings are not as bad as dead pixels.
Dead pixels, sure. But I wouldn't expect an AMOLED screen to be able to have a stuck pixel, in the traditional sense. It it had a pixel that stayed on, I would expect that to be an electrical issue, via a short somehow causing a pixel to get charge when it shouldn't. Stuck pixels on LCD screens are essentially a mechanical issue. The apps that fix them do so by switching those pixels rapidly until they get "unstuck". There is no mechanical action to an AMOLED screen. If a display somehow had a pixel that was always lit, I don't see how any app could fix that.

Banding is generally a software issue, not a hardware issue.

Grainy screen?

I received my Moto X about 3 weeks ago, but noticed on white/light backgrounds, the screen appeared grainy. So last week I called Motorola to ask for an exchange, which they did. I received the new Moto X today, but it's suffering from the same grainy screen as my other one. Does anyone else have this issue with their X? My old Note 2 did not suffer from this, and they are both AMOLED screens.
Also interesting to note, the first Moto X was assembled in the US and the second one in China, so I assume the screens came from two different batches.

Yes, even I had this issue but after comparing with others I realised it's normal. They grainy are only visible if you really pay attention and scroll slowly. Eg. Gmail app.
I've learn to live it though.
Moto X 2014
I never thought to explain it as "grainy", but yes, I have it too. I almost RMAed it for that as it sometimes looked like lines going across the screen when scrolling. Actually, I did RMA it, but moto couldn't find it in there system for a week. I finally got the email, but haven't called them back yet.
same here... its more like texture, and you do see the lines when scrolling.
Is it worth trying to RMA it again until I get one with a good screen? I would certainly consider this a flaw, especially when spending $500 on a phone. I truly do enjoy the phone otherwise.

It's the pentile screen nothing wrong with it. I have the grainy screen too.
Grainy is normal. Horizontal or vertical lines are not - also tint issues are not normal. My screen is 50-60% yellow tinted and the remainder white, not normal - rma'ed it and awaiting my replacement.
Thanks for the help everyone. I am also noticing faint horizontal lines on both Moto X's on white/light backgrounds, but the replacement from China seems to have more than the original, and has a red tint to it. I'll be calling Motorola in the morning.

Bad qc on amoled. It's a gamble...
Yes. You can another thread that I created: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/static-lines-bands-screen-yes-please-t2935981
Currently I am just using the device since there's absolutely no guarantee the next one would be any better given that these issue are common. The QC is really bad.

Narrow vertical pixel line defect

Hello,
I bought TA - 1062 variant of Nokia 7+ few days ago. Everything looked very promising as every single app is running flawlessly and just until now I was unable to find any issues or defects.
Upon detailed look, I found there is an issue with very narrow vertical line of pixels in the left part of the screen.
For me it seems like HW defect. I am waiting for seller's response on EBAY.
Does anyone of you have encountered this?
Is it really HW defect or could it be SW related?
Thank you for your answer!

Stuttering while scrolling

I absolutely love my Pixel 4 XL. However, I am experiencing stuttering while scrolling, for instance the Google News app, or even just the native wallpapers selection. I have 90Hz forced, but the same happens if I switch that off. Scrolling up and down my app drawer on the Pixel launcher, by contrast, is really smooth. Has anyone experienced this? If so, have you found a fix?
No issues here.

I have this problem with only 1 app and it's feedly

Here is an example of what I mean, although it actually looks better on the video lol

Hopefully the November patch will sort this out ("Improvements for Smooth Display on Pixel 4"), although they don't mention the 4XL...
Having the same issue with a lot of apps such as Reddit and other apps/sites with long feeds. It's not terrible but still noticeable.
I just got my phone 2 days ago. Hoping it's not an overall hardware/screen issue. I was trying to set up one of my apps and got an error. The screen started flickering bad with the error message.
Same as you loving the phone so far but thinking if I should get a replacement.
Believe it or not, I've been plagued with this problem as well. It only happens in the pixel live wallpaper app for me. I have rma'd twice but still have the scrolling lag. I have done a factory reset as well. It doesn't happen when you first set up the phone. I don't know if there's anything else I can do. Either I'd have to live it and hoping an update would fix it or return the phone for a refund and get a different phone. This is so bizarre.
Hey guys,
Did anyone figure it out? Was an RMA successful for anyone? Or are all Pixel 4's plagued with this issue?
Not all are affected. Mine is fine. If yours is not then yes try RMA.
It's weird I just noticed this issue with my love wall paper when I unlock it

[Fixed] Touchscreen and scrolling issue S20 FE 5G

Hello there (General Kenobi)
Just got my brand new Galaxy S20 FE 5G a few days ago but I'm experiencing the touch screen issue. My phone is up to date but I still have the problem. When I have to scroll, the screen doesn't respond at all or thinks it's a tap on the screen and it suddenly goes crazy.
It does only occur on the bottom part of the screen after I unlock my phone from a long period of non use.
I contacted Samsung and they told me to get it to a repair center. But I don't know if this will work and I'm a bit scared that getting it to the center would make things worse.
I saw that Samsung already rolled 3 updates out to fix this problem but I'm still not sure if it is a hardware or a software problem.
Did you guys face this issue? Do you think it is a hardware problem and I should repair it?
It is a good phone and after having left the Pixels because of hardware problem I'm annoyed
*WELL hello there
I get the occasional unwanted zoom in a browser or failure to respond to touch, what you're describing sounds worse than the multitouch issue others have been reporting.
I'd give serious consideration to returning that phone for a replacement or refund. the current reckoning around here seems to be that this phone got a digitizer from a cheaper price range compared to other S20s. what you describe sounds like a faulty digitizer.
is putting up with it for a couple of years not going to bug the crap out of you ?
if they offer only to repair it, accept only a new screen / digitizer / glass swap out.

About the famous multi-touch problem I have to admit that I tried to reproduce it but it only appeared when I was using 5 fingers (instead of 2 in the videos I saw)
I think you're right and I should get it repaired. And I'll see after that if the problem is still here I'll ask for a replacement. I will post an update as soon as I get it back
Thank you!
If you don't mind, could you let us know your phone's hardware revision number? An app called Phone Info *SAM* can show it. People would be interested to know if Samsung has made any hardware changes to the FE line.
Okay guys I'm sorry I couldn't reply before. I had to sent my phone for a repair THREE TIMES ! The first time they didn't do anything but damaged the back of my phone (replacing the screen and the battery) and the problem was still here. The second time they sent my phone back with the battery literally filled (the back of the phone was also damaged due to the battery that had filled).
I got my phone back on last Friday. Seems to be OK. They told me they couldn't reproduce the problem. They just repaired what they did wrong but didn't seem to do anything with the touchscreen.
The phone looks OK. After 1 day of use, the touchscreen seems to be OK but I would like to wait a bit before adding [FIXED] to the title of the topic
Does anyone know if the 2021 version of FE the 4G Snapdragon (g780g I think) has the same problems with ghost touches and jittery scrolling? Can't find info on that anywhere. Deciding between the FE and 8T, but the risk of bad touchscreen is driving me away from it although it's better phone.

I'm sorry I couldn't tell you. I bought my phone around February and it has the problem. This is the 5G variant with Snapdragon 865. I didn't even know there was a 4G variant with Snapdragon (in France, it's either 4G/Exynos or 5G/Snapdragon).
The phone is great though and now my problem seems to be fixed I'm keeping my S20FE over the Pixel 5 even though I'm a Pixel fan.

actually it looks like that's the only issue he didn't have.
That all sounds like an Exynoss version He might be wrong, maybe it is Exy?
Haha I don't feel concerned about the problems that he had because coming from a Pixel 5 some of the problems he had was worse on the P5 (reception, sound quality and the fact that the device can get warm)
