Experience of Staedtler Noris Digital - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Accessories

The S Pen of S6 is quite handy but the retangular design is not so comfortable to hold and the position of button on the s pen is designed badly.
I find that using Noris Digital to write is a lot better than using the S Pen. S Pen is good for Annotation and Screen Capture but not for prolonged writing.

Thanks! I agree with shortfalls of the shipped S-pen, and have been looking for an alternative. Is it this one?
https://www.amazon.com/Staedtler-Di...prefix=Staedtler+Noris+Digital,aps,276&sr=8-4

Yes, it is the one. Quite close to the real pen experience.

You have the noris digital and it works on your tab s6? Mine does not, but maybe its because I have a glass screen protector installed. Would like to know if you have actually tried the combo, thanks.

Seem that the s6 screen's EMR is in power saving mode when the s pen is attached. It is necessary to detach the s pen in order to write with the Noris.
Not sure if it is possible to disable the power saving mode permanently. The battery life could be affected if doing so.

Wow that worked! Thank you!

Yes I have this pencil from when I had s3, I find it easier to use.

At last, the tablet/pen experience I had hoped for. This pen (STAEDTLER 180 22-1 Noris), combined with this cover and Nebo software, makes writing on the screen a joy!
If you've ever used a hexagonal pencil (like the ones you probably used in school) this pen will feel natural to use.
1" longer than S-pen (gonna see about cutting it to fit in slot)
Slightly thicker than S-pen (though I think/hope it will fit in S-pen slot if I do above procedure)
Slightly rubbery feel to it
I was able to use it without removing S-pen from slot, or fiddling with settings (I saw a post about an issue with this using different pen and/or settings, but everything worked for me 'right out of the box')
AND NO STUPID BUTTON THAT IS PLACED IN SUCH A STUPID SPOT THAT IT IS SO EASY TO ACCIDENTALLY PRESS BECAUSE IT IS SO STUPID...[voice trails off, mumbling and cursing]

How does it feel on the tablet's screen? Any difference from the original S-pen? I want a pen which has a feeling like writing/drawing on a paper.

There is a 'paper-like' so-called screen protector that is supposed to make the experience more like writing on paper. Just got mine delivered today, but haven't tried it yet.

Hello there,
Even I am using the Staedtler Noris Digital pen, I'm really satisfied except for air command...
On my S3 it worked fine with Staedtler, but it seems to me there is no way to activate it apart from spen on S6!

Well, to be honest: the Steadtler noris is a no go, as it is missing the button - my workstyle requires a button (color select for painting).
Note: Samsung uses the Wacom EMR technique. So almost all Wacom EMR styluses should work. Just go on the wacom site and look the styluses they recommend for their EMR tablets. You'll also find the Stadetler in the list. There are also some windows laptops with styluses using this technique. Thouse should be compatible, too.
I went with the Lamy al-star EMR. Shaped like a fountain pen (no hand pain after long sessions) but with a button much more comfortable to press. It misses the Bluetooth feature, but the rest works fine. This pen also uses the Samsung nibs. And like for all styluses you have to be careful which softness degree you choose. I prefer soft nibs. The Lamy ship with hard ones. Of course this also depends on the tablet surface (screen cover).
Btw: the Wacom One stylus should work as well as the stylus for the new intuos series but I have not tested it. As long as it employs the EMR technique it should work. There might be even more options, but for some reason wacom make it pretty hard to figure out compatibility.
Samsung should really open a site showing which styluses are compatible with their S-Pen devices.

What you mean by activate it?
The digitizer goes to sleep if you dock the pen - like for all S-Pen devices. So either you enable the digitizer via setting or remove the S-Pen from its dock.

It depends on the software version you are on.
Only know it in German:
Settings -> Advanced functions -> S-Pen -> Allow multiple S-Pens
Einstellungen -> Erweiterte Funktionen -> S-Pen -> Mehrere S-Pens zulassen
On some others, rooted devices, it's called enable digitizer.
Btw.: Just learned the Wacom Intuos Styluses do not work with the Samsung digitizer =( sorry for that.
Just tried one from my friend. If anyone could try the Wacom One stylus would be great! At least some amazon reviews say it works.

[Q] Stylus Pen

Has anyone tried a stylus pen on the SGT? Was thinking about getting the DAGi stylus for my tab but before I did I wanted to know if anyone had any advice to give based on past experiences.
Regards,
Tyler
Boxwave!
I picked up a black Boxwave IPad 'Styra' (pen one end and stylus the other). I find it very accurate. Also tried a Pogo but found it pretty poor (too squishy and kind of fuzzy tip). If you search forvreviews youwill find heaps. All I need now is a decent handwriting recognition app. Tried several in the market and not impressed.
hey buddy i ordered a Dagi, ill recieve it in about a week. i liked the perciseness of it. so ill keep u posted how it is once i get it
Get the red dot pen by HTC. That's what I recommend, anyway. It's extremely precise. Just search google for "red dot stylus htc".
Anyone knows whether there is any palm rejection supported software out there for note taking on the tab? been seeing that the hardware supports it, but i dont think there is any good software to utilize it yet..
What like how the htc flyer notes app works? That uses specilist hardware so it wont work on the tab
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Hi all HTC did NOT make the pen for the flyer it was n-trig take a look at there web site just Google n-trig
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
The screen for GT is supplied by Atmel and through web there was an interview with Atmel's product marketing Binay Bajaj saying
"There's something called "palm rejection." We support that. And unintended touches, which you can reject. We call it "grip," touching the screen from the side. We have something called "grip suppression." In spite of the grip, you can still use the device."
So I was hoping that the hardware for GT already supports it, but there is no software out in the market utilizing this feature yet.. unless I missed it. And yes, flyer's digitizer is supplied by n-trig and thats a different matter.

so the palm rejection isn't just automatic on the tab at all times? it has to be supported in specific apps?
that woudl suck if that's true. I figured it was just like that all the time.
either way we need some useful handwriting or other custom writing (jot?) style apps for the tab/android. otherwise a stylus is sort of an inconvenient gimmick, isn't it?
is it all the same type of stylus head in the market? from the after market product of stylus? i tried once but it feels of lag of motion, this an eraser head type (flat on the surface)
I got the "just mobile AluPen". Rounded eraser head type, but glides very easily. I got it for highlighting in PDFs.
Works quite ok. But not as well as my finger!
When you use it for Swype, the trace on the letters looks okay, but the recognition is way worse than with the finger. And you have to press a bit to get a good trace.
Stopped using it.
I got targus tablet stylus pen for 11€ including shipping.
It works okay, but its not as useful as I thought, finger is still working better, one has to press to hard and capacititve styluses aren't accurate enough.

sure they are, but even used a phone in -10°C?
Finger becomes useless when wet in rain or due to sweat hence we need a stylus as a backup in those extreme conditions.

Capacitive screens are rubbish at low temps, question: do styluses work with gloves on or do they need direct contact with the skin as a current path?

Are you using an alternative stylus (esp for drawing)

How many of you are using an alternative stylus? If so, which one and do you use it for writing or drawing? I'm especially curious about those who draw...
Nope, I'm using the original pen...it's too much of a hassle to carry another one in my pocket...it can fall down and be lost...
Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'm tempted to get a compatible stylus coz, I don't like stick thin pens. Only problem is I can hardly draw, but I love "art materials".
You could always buy the S-Pen holder kit from Samsung - It converts the original S-Pen into a full-sized pen. I'm awaiting receipt of mine today from Amazon, but I mainly bought it as it comes with a replacement S-Pen with a silver button (as opposed to the camouflaged black button on the original).
i bought one of these as well, it makes writing so much easier however I prefer using my Wacom one as the button is higher so I don't accidentally keep pressing it. I use mine mainly for taking notes,I ain't much of an artist.

Yes, I did think of that but it seems to have a rubber grip in the middle, and I dislike rubber grips. The holder is also a little too thick for me.

I am not sure of the model of the Wacom pen, it came with my Lenovo Thinkpad x61T about 4 years ago. I have attached a picture of the two pens together, the Samsung's one and the Wacom so that you can get an idea of the button placement.
The Wacom is slightly thinner and the button is higher up making it far less likely to press the button accidentally. The Samsung one has a nice feel to it but the button does get pressed easily.
I have a Wacom Tablet Model# ET-0405A-U. The pen from that device does not work on the GNote. It is a USB device so I tried plugging it in. It is recognized as a USB mouse, but neither the pen nor the mouse (another option with my Wacom) provided any cursor display or effect upon any screen or application.

s pen alternatives

Looking for serious note users. Was wondering the best s pen to use for longer writing sessions. I have tried the one with my note 12.2 pro and the one with my note 8.0 . Looking for some ideas. I thought I saw someone using the tab 3 s pen in a thread but I can't seem to find it. I like the larger style better for sure, for longer writing sessions.
Thanks

Sorry could not resist.
But seriosly the Apple Pencii is really great. I use it at work together with my iPad. It is close to normal writing on paper
From past experience not all wacom pens are fully compatible
The wacom stylus feel for galaxy note is compatible, same size and diameter as a full length pen, very hefty (weight and size), has a mechanical feel to it, ironically i personally never did like how it felt in the hand.
The wacom smart for galaxy note is also compatible, have not tried this one so no personal experience
And finally the s-pen from the galaxy tab S3, which actually is a really nice pen, it's about 3/4 length of a standard pencil, though it's feels a little light in the hand it has a really nice textured finished on the whole barrel (feels like rubber). I personally think it's size and weight is perfect for the note 8.
Been doing some research on this as well. Wacom Styluses using EMR technology will work on our Notes, but not newer technology. This is why only the first and second generation Surface pens work, but not the 3rd generations or newer. The newest Wacom Intuos styluses will also not work.

For the note line of devices Wacom actually uses what they term as "penabled" technology, only penabled compatible devices will work (these tend to be screens that support both capacitive touch and EMR pen). Gen 1 and 2 surface pro were using wacom penabled tech, microsoft brought N-Trig and used that tech for gen 3 onward (it's actually an active pen which requires AAAA batteries to work).
samsung XE700T1A slate 7 line had a full size pen (though some what slim), it was lightweight and had an eraser on the end (note 8 does not seems to recognize the function and acts like a pointer, but have not exhaustively tested against all apps). The Fujitsu lifebooks ive been told supported a pen with 2 buttons, but not had opportunity to test these out. Other notable makers are Asus with it's EEE Slate (full size pen) and lenovo (mini pen, slightly smaller than the galaxy tab S3)
Just a reminder for the OP: when using 3rd party pens, make sure to turn off "Spen detection" in power saving settings. The Note will ignore pen taps when that is enabled and an Spen is in the silo, so you'd think that the new pen is not working.

But wouldn't keeping the screen energized for s-pen at all times, use extra battery power? And let me say from the beginning I have no idea if it's substantial amount or not to even worry about.
Yes keeping the screen active will drain some battery, though I don't think by very much as it will still sleep when screen sleeps.
Can also confirm eraser on the Samsung slate 7 pen will work as an eraser if the app can accomodate, sketchbook, Samsung note and artflow will utilise eraser, surprisingly OneNote and Photoshop sketch does not
Got the tab 3 s pen yesterday , what a difference. Feels good and no cramps after lots of writing. I would put up with the Note 8 being a bigger phone if they could fit this full size s pen in it! Today will see how much battery it uses since I set the the phone ro always detect so I don't have to pull the original s pen out.

Ok also got the steadler pencil as well. Works great, a little larger but just like holding and old school pencil. I really like both! Also , after 2 days now, I can tell no difference in battery life leaving the phone set to always detect s pen. I couldn't find a specific item in the battery menu that looked like the wacom screen, but really still awesome battery.

Which one do you prefer nuclearrage? Found no comparison of these 3 together!
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8 s pen
- Samsung Tab S3 s pen
- Steadler digital pencil
I also own a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and just love it! I use a S Pen Holder Kit so that if feels like a real pen. It has a et-s100ewegstd S Pen, which is the 1st S Pen ever released for the Note 1. I like it a lot, but not as precise as the original S Pen that comes with the note pro 12.2.
Would also the 2 other Samsung s pens work with the 12.2 ?
Thanks!

I don't know what u need the all this writing for but if u use it for school or work then I would use a tablet. I still got my beloved note 10.1 tablet and use it at work for quick notes for my daily report.
I wouldn't use a phone for lots of writing as it's too small to write longer S.A's and I can only imagine the annoyance of doing so.
Maybe keep an eye out if Sammy releases a new note tablet in the future if you find the note 10.1 to outdated.
Not that the above has anything to do with spen alternatives but just my two cents.

The Staedtler pencil is sweet. Very long, if you like the way a pencil feels after it's very first sharpening, strength and weight wise, it's great. And it comes with a cap, albeit a delicate one, to protect the tip. It does not have a side button and comes with no replaceable tips, though I suspect the standard ones that come with the phones stylus will fit.
The new spen that comes with A3 and galaxy book is the best imo. No cap, which I don't like. A $70 pen should have something to protect the sensitive tech in the tip.. Like the Surface Pro 4 pen its magnetic and has a clip.
The Wacom Bamboo Smart (Galaxy Note Version) is as good as the Stad pencil or s3 spen. It has a cap and side button.
Last and pictured to the far left is the Wacom Bamboo Stylus Feel for Galaxy Note. It's the oldest and predecessor to the Bamboo Smart. It uses replaceable tips but not like the newer ones used in the pens mentioned above. Though all plastic and the same texture and weight as the Bamboo Smart, it is painted to have some silver accents, and is more attractive imo than Wacom's Bamboo Smart, which is matte black throughout.
I have owned the second variation of Samsung's Spen with eraser (There are 2 models: 1 released after Note 2 and one after Note 8.o and 10.1) I lost it during a recent move. It was good. Used same older style tips as Bamboo Feel and the eraser was handy. Good luck finding one of these for sale.
There is a bluetooth spen (model 5100??) that was released around the same time as note 8.0. Once paired it answers calls, plays music, and so on...
Any wacom emr or penabled stylus will work.
I'm using Bamboo stylus. All features seem to work fine. Got it at Best buy after they ran out of Surface pens with the intent to return if it didn't work. Had it for a few months now. No regrets.
I've bought spen from tab S3. In meeting is better for take notes
why not just get one from ebay?

STYLUS: What stylus are you using?

Currently using a generic capacitive stylus and it does not work great. Mind sharing your stylus and share your thoughts?
To be honest if you really want a tablet with a stylus, you should have gone with either the SGTS4 or the SGTS6 as both of those have the S-Pen. Which is the best stylus for a device.

To be honest, this is not helpful to tell someone they should have gone with another tablet for stylus support. How does this help?
I have the Galaxy Tab S5e because it's cheaper. Many styli do work on most if not all tablets. The only thing that tablets that have official stylus support offer is pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. Two features which are only necessary for artists. For taking notes, I don't give a F about pressure sensitivity nor do I rest my palm on the screen/ paper when I write.
I'll be testing some styli and get back to OP.

It helps by telling you you are wasting you time looking for a stylus for the S5e. There are two types of stylus. A plain capacitive touchscreen stylus that won't draw a line any finer than you can with your finger, and an electronic one like the S-Pen that will draw a line like a ballpoint pen. But the electronic one won't work with the S5e, so don't bother looking for one. They require a second digitizer that is situated behind the LCD and the S5e doesn't have one. The cost of that second digitizer is why the S-Pen tablets are more expensive. The pens themselves are fairly cheap.
I have Adonit stylus Dash 3 Silver, it works pretty well. It has problem when you are trying draw really slowly, It makes some weird curved lines. But I am using Sketchbook by Autodesk and it has some line smoothing what really helps.
Hi there
Let's be a bit more positive
I use a meko stylus. They are double ended.
One end is the normal blunt sort of stylus, which is great for on screen typing, while the other has a clear disc which allows you to see exactly where the fine center is touching the screen.
The actual stylus looks like a high quality steel pen with rubber finger grip
I bought a set of two 'pens' with 6 spare tips from Amazon for around £10 over a year ago and have only used 2 of the spare tips
Excellent quality and value. Highly recomanded.

I will grant you that that type of stylus beats the kind you can buy for about 50 cents each. But it is still a capacitive stylus that won't produce the fine line of an electronic one. There are apps which attempt to produce a "fine line" by extrapolating what would be the center of the "fat" line, but the results leave a lot to be desired. Bottom line, if you are serious needing a good stylus for your device, you need to purchase a tablet that was made for one. It's easy to tell. If the tablet didn't come with a stylus, it wasn't made for one.
Seems I've been handing out mistaken advice about stylii for "touch only" tablets. S-Pen and other "Wacom" based stylii DO require a second digitzer to work and most tablets simply don't have them. HOWEVER, I puchased a BoxWave Active Sylus because it was touted to work with my HP Envy X360 laptop. Just to prove it wouldn't work with a "touch only" tablet, I tried it with both my SM-T510 and T720 tablets. Much to my surprise, it works with both of them. I've never used a stylus for drawing, so I can't guarantee it works as well as an S-Pen, but it does produce a "ballpoint pen" type line in the drawing apps I tried. Also, the line width doesn't appear to be "pressure sensitive". I was able to buy mine on eBay for about $20, new with free shipping.
