Best hacks and which EMUI version is best? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

I haven't updated the phone, it's still on Android 8.1.
Have the later EMUIs improved the phone overall or actually made things worse, like worse cam / battery performance?
Also what do you recommend one must do with the Pro 20 that has a great effect? I mean, without root I cannot make use of any backup like Titanium, cannot use TWRP.
I just uninstalled the most apps I don't use like ebay, amazon and facebook.
But Huawei has quite a few unnecessary system processes that you cannot delete so easily, telemetry stuff I assume.

Emui 9.1 is pretty good. Better than 8.0 imo
Also, you can disable some system apps using adb
Pretty much use this command:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 (app file name that can be found using App inspector)

Can you roll back to 8.1 again even without open BL and root?

How?
Is there a clean 8.1 Emui version here or do you need to create a backup yourself?

Thanks for that, at least it's 'in the works' unless what he's doing in Chinese and at super fast speed is knocking it back to EMU 10 first?
Anybody speak Chinese
Extremely fast! Does anyone know English?

video has english subs , on which you probabnly can workout howto
I can confirm it works. Just installed GMS on my M40pro+ following the exact instructions in the video. Of course, the speed was set to 0.25, but it is very easy and intuitive.
I'm on Emui 11 and just tried to roll back using the tutorial. Unfortunately HiSuite_10.0.0.510_OVE doesn't seem to be compatible; Trying to connect the phone to hisuite will try to install hisuite.apk on my phone.
However, I get a message that this apk version is incompatible with the phone. Hisuite on my phone will not run as I can't grant location privileges.
Trying to install the latest hisuite.apk doesn't work either. I still get prompted to install the version that comes with the pc version of my hisuite.
Any solutions or alternative ways for me to get version ELS-LGRP4-OVS 10.1.0.131 on my phone?
Edit: I just installed the latest Hisuite versions, this gives me the option to rollback to Emui10 v176. I'll try further from there!
Edit2: I was able to roll back
Installed the older Hisuite version and was able to roll back to 131
googlefier went well too, now waiting for OTA updates
My phone updated automatically to m11 and my Google stuff still working.
Hello,
I am planning to install GMS on my P40 Pro. I am currently on EMUI 11.
The thing that worries me is the problem with notifications after GMS installation.
Which notifications I will not receive and is there any way to fix that?

Someone in Asia has found a definitive solution for installing gms, with all notification working, and device certified but well they're pricy enough, and looks like they won't share their method anytime soon. But based on evidence, I guess their method is using another microG like services, and then modify Google service apk

On my computer yes. But i can't get IT work with this video tutorial.
Evening all.
Bit confused on this thread as topic is getting gms on emui11 but half the people are talking about downgrading to 10 to then do it.. Is the vid of the Asian guy doing it def from emui11? I'm currently running 11.0.0.168 with no attempts yet at modifying anything to get gms and wanted to give this method a whirl. Anyone else have luck with it on 11.168?
Cheers yall

I also tried this video with the Chinese guy, I put English subs and lower the speed and here I come. but it didn't work.
I have Huawei P40 Pro (ELS-NX9), I also got stuck in the early stages. When I suppose to restore the old back up I also don't have "Restore from internal storage". I saw it's possible to restore with Hisuite when the phone is connected to the computer so I tried that but this particular restore file from the package you download but the hisuite can't find it, so it's either the IMUI version I have (11.0.0.151) or it's because I have P40 Pro... I was hoping to get it done without downgrade the phone, sadly I guess there is no choice...

In the same boat. I'm on a P40 Pro Plus ELS-N39 Firmware EMI 11.0.0.168(C636E2R1P3).
Willing to give it a try. What could go wrong right? It's got to be safer than the downgrade route. Wish there was a simpler solution or the ban on Google lifted so Huawei can resolve this properly and officially some how. I'm using Gspace which is fine for most things but having all the bells and whistles of google play etc. would be worth the attempt imo.

Is it possible to install gapps on the Android 11 beta?

Have some free time this coming weekend and was considering installing the android 11 beta posted here
Reading around this forum I've seen people have had issues installing gapps.
Has anyone managed to install gapps successfully? If not, I will stay on the NX627J_CNCommon_V2.23 build.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
I have now upgraded to Android 11 and installed google apps, here's how I did it.
The usual disclaimers apply: DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ADB, FASTBOOT ETC. I will not be held responsible for bricked devices.
If you wish to void your warranty the command to unlock the bootloader and allow flashing with fasboot the command is "fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX627J"
1. Backup the data you want to keep from your phone. Wipe the phone using stock recovery or TWPR
2. Upgrade to 2.24 using full zip. As I had previously rooted my device so the stock recovery wasn't working and I had to flash TWRP.
3. Upgrade to 3.11 using full zip. Either use the stock recovery or TWRP. This will be the last time you can use TWRP for flashing due to changes in Android 11. TWRP does not support Android 11 yet. If I'd have realised this before I would have tried to flashed google apps at this step. Can't confirm if this works but I wish I'd have tried it.
4. If you need root, install the APK for magisk "canary" (or any version that supports patching boot.img)
5. Open the zip for 3.11 and extract boot.img, copy to your device
6. Patch the boot.img using Magisk. I used these instructions. Reboot.
7. Congratluations, you have Android 11 with root!
If you need gapps and didn't install them yet, it's still possible. Flashing without TWRP was a challenge, but after a lot of hours wasted, I found that BiTG apps was working which I downloaded from this page. I flashed using EX Kernel Manager but I would imagine other apps that allow root flashing will work similarly.
Currently, I have not been able to get SafetyNet checks to pass. I will update this thread with details as I uncover them.
For WhatsApp verfication to pass make sure you have granted Google services framework SMS permissions.
Hope this is helpful for some people who are thinking about making the move to Android 11. No major issues to report yet, will update this thread if anything comes up.
EDIT 2021/02/22: I have repeated this process successfully for V3.15.
thais rom support to flash twrp or google app?
someone who helps? very ugly problem that notifications from whatsapp do not arrive

you can uninstall most of the bloat without root, and even more of it with
obviously I don't work for nubia but at this point a global ROM seems a way off, especially given there has been nothing since 2.03

"stock" for this phone is what you have installed now. There is no custom ROM, which is your real complaint. To be honest, I would also much prefer a custom ROM, if you find one let me know! Anyway this is completely off topic for this thread

Yeah, stock is what I have installed right now, which is Android 9. I would like to get the stock Android 11, without their skin. Maybe a GSI rom could fix it, but I was not able to install it. As soon as you flash the gsi rom on nubia ui 8, the system breaks.

You may want to add in the instructions the command to unlock the bootloader of the z20 since users wouldn't be able to flash otherwise.
I managed to get this working and trying to de-china-fy to have english only. Will report back if I can somehow replace the default launcher.
Edit: got a my total launcher running by placing the apk inside the folder where the default nubia launcher is sitting. With root, just place the apk under system/app/nubia launcher folder. It's not working 100% perfect for me as nubia edge gestures stop letting me pull up recent apps so I can't multi task anymore

Thanks that's a good idea, I'll try it out. Can you explain a little more around the gestures issue, is it that you show the navbar and the nubia controls are now somehow in the way? I've been a fan of the nubia navigation since I gave it a go and became used to it. Having the back button at any point in the screen is useful I find.
I've added the command to unlock the bootloader to the OP btw.

With the stock nubia launcher even with the Chinese app taken out, swiping left always tries to get you to the Chinese google feed like page. I didn't care for that so I replaced the launcher with total launcher which worked.
The problem is that the swipe up gesture that usually pull up the recent apps to allow switching between application is not working. Even switching the navigation from gestures to 3 button navigation and pressing the recent apps button does nothing.
Perhaps I took one too many Chinese system apps out which caused this error or it is somehow tied into system and nubia launcher itself. Will have to test further.

It's weird, the recent apps and swipe up are linked to the nubia launcher for some reason. Despite this, I'm staying with with my launcher as I can't stand the apple like nature of the nubia launcher. I think I have managed to get rid of all the Chinese apps though so all good for now.

debloating/remove Google and Xiaomi-apps

Hi!
I've unlocked the bootloader, and got Magisk installed (patched?), and I'm granted root.
And I got the possibility, and am able to uninstall Google- and Xiaomi-related apps that I don't either need or/and want on my device.
So I wanted to ask if there's some list someone can refer me to that's updated, and reliable year 2020?
Since I'm good with removing apps/packages that I shouldn't, since I mostly end up in bootloops, having to restart with everything, so that's the reason why I ask?
My goal in the end is to be able to get rid of as much as possible of Google and Xiaomi-related APK's/packages.
With best regards.
Check attachment, long list
Also you need to disable ads, find youtube videos for info.
I don't remember the exact steps, quite easy but take time.
ps.
I'm on MIUI Global 12.0.4
Rooted with Magisk 20.4
Regards,
kevin168
You can disable pre installed apps permantly, without uninstalling them (I mean, changing the system).
Code:
pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.chrome
Change com.android.chrome to desired package name.

May I ask why you want to keep on MIUI V12.0.4.0 ?
ok good question there are programs which i want to install in the phones for my children after i have rooted so my fear is once they update the phone the root will go away and the programs will be erased

Certainly.
I'm not sure about it.
But probably there are many and many apps designed for parental protection.
You need to try each one and see if it is enought to you.
I have an ideia.
You can install another launcher (like nova launcher) and hide unwanted apps from drawer.
Good luck
ok thank what about the auto firmware update how can i disabled it

"the root will go away" you need to flash using fastboot and avoid flashing the boot partition and root will keep working.
"programs will be erased" you don't need to erase your data for upgrading. you can flash and update your system without wipe data.

it is not recommend to update your OS directly from Setting while Magisk is installed ...your phone would go into bootloop(unusable state) there are also stories of people that are force to buy new device because of this silly mistake also installing OS update from Setting would uninstall Magisk also worse case scenario would lock your bootloader too which as your provably know it's nightmare

You modify your system and expect samsung to push an update on your device? That won't work.

Rollback to Android 11

I do hate the new Android interface, large Button in the notification screen, screen that is also always full screen, can't control Chromecast volume with cellphone buttons.
So there is some major bug that are really annoying to me.
Is there anyone who rollback to A11?
Can i just Flash the latest version over Android 12? Is a full wipe required?
Full wipe is required when downgrading. If your bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to use the Android Flash Tool to install a previous build.
If your bootloader is locked, you will have to unlock it in order to downgrade.

If your bootloader is locked, you are out of luck unfortunately.

Yeah my bootloader is unlocked, well.. Doing the rollback worth it, even if i want to have root on a12 that need to be done for now.
Thanks
Man, it's like I wrote this topic lol.
If we downgrade to Android 11, will it be possible to get all the security updates, or are they included in the latest images available on google.
Lol, 11 is no gem. I'd go back to 10. That is as high as I will go. Apple trashware is what Android has become, a bloated yappy poodle of an OS.
Who left that big Apple into the room?☠

Just like previous updates, Android 11 on the Pixel series has now been deprecated and will no longer be supported with updates.

While you're entitled to your personal opinion regarding Android versions, your comment is neither helpful nor appropriate in this context. Some of us like Android 12, some like 11, you apparently prefer 10. Everyone has their own preference. I personally don't like the C8 Corvette, and if I were to buy a Corvette, I'd go with the C7 (or maybe keep it old school and go with a C3). But, I'm not going to be disrespectful to someone and imply the C8 is trash because it's a wannabe Ferrari.

I'm sorry my question wasn't clear
I meant, if I download the latest image on https://developers.google.com/android/images , will it include the latest patches of Android 11 ? I assume I will not get an invite to update to the latest patches, but directly to Android 12 which is why I wonder if I will also have to install all the ota patches myself

You don't need updates.
Don't buy the scare hype.
Almost all malware infections are done by the user and most are preventable.
{Mod edit} 11 is just a bad OS by design.
Android wanted to make it "safe" and "secure" for even the ignorami.
There's no saving ignorami... load at you're own peril
{Mod edit: Language slightly adjusted - regards Oswald Boelcke}

Take a look at the link you posted. Every update, from the initial release to the most recent, is hosted there. The updates are cumulative, so if you install the latest firmware, it incorporates all previous updates.

That's unfortunate, I thought that may be the case... my bad.
Maybe a custom rom built on Q but this may difficult because Titan M security chip found on the newer Pixels. Don't know if it can be bypassed as it's primary function is security.
In Q scoped storage doesn't appear to be implemented at least with older apps. That changes with R.
At the least I wait for 12 to see wide spread release for a few months before upgrading; let someone else work out/suffer the glitches.

Easiest way: Use the Android Flash Tool. Make sure you wipe data.
I feel the same way about Android 12 and successfully did a rollback (with full wipe unfortunately) using https://9to5google.com/2021/10/21/how-to-downgrade-from-android-12-to-android-11-on-google-pixel/ as a guide.
However, my concern now is how do I block 12 from updating automatically? I've disabled automatic updates under Developer Tools, but is that sufficient? I keep getting popups to update to 12 but so far I've managed to dismiss them. Last time I inadvertently dismissed an update popup like that the phone eventually told me too much time has passed and it will update now without giving me an option to prevent it. Do I need to enable OEM debugging and/or unlock the bootloader to really block OTA updates or is there an easier way?

OEM Debugging won't do anything to prevent updates; disabling Automatic Updates should do the trick. Not sure how to prevent the notification though, I'm on the latest 12 release and still getting an update notification. So are some others that aren't even rooted.

You need to use an adb edit or package disabler to kill it or it will likely force update.
If the update downloads clearing the system cache before it completes may purge it. I haven't tested that though.
Go in settings, apps, In the Google Play services apps notification, there is a system update notification that can be disabled there.
I've format and install A11 back, rooted it, and since October 25, i haven't seen any update notification. I've already tried by the past to let the system update itself with the normal update way and it wasn't able to do it caused I'm rooted.. So i think I'm safe.

ADB edit or package disabler to kill... what exactly? I'm sorry I'm not that familiar with this specific area.

This is only for the notification though while other things do happen in the background still, right?

I might be wrong but the fact of being rooted prevent the update to be pushed.

Are you rooted? If so there are better alternatives for you.
Package Disabler is what I use as I run stock. There are numerous threads on XDA about ADB apps and editing. Use Google search to dredge them up, put XDA at the search phase end.
