To all,
I have a Galaxy S3 LTE (i9505) on Android 4.3. I wanna have it rooted, and a custom ROM as well.
What I've read about 4.3 is the fact that it got KNOX Bootloader, and that KNOX can cause problems when installing custom recovery.
How can I put a custom recovery on it? Just flash CWM in ODIN or do I need to root first, disable KNOX and then flash with ODIN? How u guys have do it (if you did it)?
Also, if you have a custom rom on KNOX 4.3, what are you experiences? Stable?
Thanks,
Daniel
i didn't done it for my device yet...just got it for less than a month...after 1 more i'll do it...
did it for a friend with note 2...which has 4.3 with KNOX bootloader...
flashed CWM with odin with no problem what so ever...when rooting there was a problem...flashed supersu in CWM but app failed to load due to knox...flashed a patch to remove knox......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507931 ....and turned superSU off.....after turned it on.....updated superSU and worked like a charm...
but this will set that annoying knox counter to 0x1...for him that wasn't a problem...
Just got it rooted, had one problem with SuperSU and that was the message "SuperSU has stopped" when opening SuperSU. Fixed it by downloading SuperSU apk and install over it. Disabled KNOX, installed ROM Manager and installed CWM Recovery. Now downloading CyanogenMod 11, gonna install it later today when I'm home.
Thanks
Can i install boefla kernel on stock rom with root and cwm?
Wysłane z mojego GT-I9305 przy użyciu Tapatalka
to flash the kernel you only need custom recovery....
just make sure you flash the one for Samsung...not for CM...
if you have jb 4.3 flash THIS
Ok, ive flashed beoefla kernel (ofc 3x wipe) and without any changes my device is not smooth at all. It was laggy. I flashed kernel from 10.03 for jb based device. Sometimes freez for few sec.

Use CF-Auto Root to root then that's fine
Then go flash a rom
Remember this will loose your warranty
Flash a new rom and all things become good and perfect
Remember to have a full backup before doing anything stupid!
Hi Guys,
Ive recently upgraded my Huawei P9 to Nougat after a frustrating and painfull experience i do hope that im not in for another long ride i suppose inexperience adds to the frustration but nothing i cant handle except the time wasting as long as its worth it in the end though!
Anyways, i am looking to upgrade my old htc one m7 on the EE network in the UK to android 7. Is there a guide that you could point me to in order to get the ball rolling? the questions i need answering is.... does it have to be rooted, does it need to be carrier unlocked?, which programs do i need to download?, how long should this whole process take an average joe to install everything? am i likely to run into any issues problems other than the obvious bricking scenarios?
I remember back in the day i did my htc tytn 2 and customised that but that was 10 years ago.....where does time go?
thanks in advance
cammy
Just to be clear there is no official nougat for our m7. We have only custom roms. So let you start the whole process with unlocking your bootloader. After you will do that you will have to install a custom recovery (newest TWRP). When you will do this then find a custom ROM that you would want to install, download it (remember to download gapps also), put it on your phone, go to the recovery (power + vol down), do a full wipe (data, system, cache and dalvik-cache) and then flash your rom and gapps. After you will do that simply reboot your phone and be happy using the newest nougat rom on your htc. If you have more questions simply write them here or on PM

hi dj,
what are the benefits of using the nougat update over marshmallow? which rom works better in terms of functionality, battery life etc... does all hardware correspond in the nougat rom?
can i use the twrp program i used for my p9 or do i need to download another? is it much the same process for flashing like it was on the huawei p9?
what is the guestimate on time for the whole complete process?
also, can i backup my apps, contacts etc... and reinstall them after the nougat update?
sorry for all the questions :/

Well, nougat roms are much more stable then marshmallow ones (at least on our m7). Battery life is ok, nothing special, but still not that bad. Everything technically works (some bugs are just user related)
For recovery you need to use a version made for m7 ofc. Flashing is simple as you only need to write a one command in the cmd (or terminal but depends on a system you actually use)
And for the last question - yes you can make a backup of apps and contacts but you have to know that some apps might act weird after that process (you will have to simply reinstall them)

do you have links to the roms you recommend and also the recovery for m7 ofc?
which rom is most stable and best in your opinion?

You can find the latest twrp here https://dl.twrp.me/m7univ/
Well for the Rom itself it depends on what you want, i think most Android N Roms are nearly complete Bugfree here is an overview of those Roms https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/general/nougat-roms-international-htc-one-m7-t3524060
I use AICP for a while now but tried most of them and AICP is best for me now.
hi,
which version of gapps do i download? theres different platforms, android and variants which check box do i choose?

Always choose arm. Version depends on android version. I can recommend pico gapps. Or just download beans gapps (better one for me)

When you are in twrp, you should be able to connect it to your pc. If the pc doesnt recognize it go into "mount" and deactivate mtp and activate it again, should connect now.
hi dj,
i managed to install aicp rom and i installed bean gapps not sure what im looking for in terms of bean gapps but i will google it.
however, after installing the rom i get a repeat boot loop after about 10 secondswhen im on phone menu. any ideas whats wrong?
cheers
I guess you installed a correct rom right? (for m7). If you got a bootloop then simply wipe cache, dalvik-cache, data and system and flash AICP and gapps again

Hey everyone,
i would like to root my P10 with Magisk and stock firmware before i can´t get any bootloader unlock key from Huawei anymore.
My question is is it possible to update the system to the latest Firmware Versions from Huawei (via FF or TWRP) later on without to re root the device ?
Regards.
Use my guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/guide-manual-updgrade-to-update-oreo-t3758286
It does exactly what you want, but you still need to reinstall Magisk-Root because /system will be overwritten.
Personal data, settings and apps will be untouched by the update but do a backup just to be sure.

Hello,
Is there a way to roll back to Oreo from 47.2.a.4.45 (Pie) saving all personal data and apps untouched?

Just downgrade it yourself, you won't damage the phone or change your warranty status.
Look on Xperiafirm and find a 47.1.A.16.20 build that is for your region, although any EU region would be fine, US versions have fingerprint and VoLTE disabled for some reason.
Download Newflasher and put it in the same folder as the firmware you downloaded from Xperiafirm
Delete Userdataxxx.sin and files ending in .ta . This will ensure that you don't lose any personal data. Also delete persist*.sin to avoid losing android attest key.
Then start newflasher.exe and follow instrctions.
You might need a copy of the Sony driver
I would make a backup with Xperia transfer before you do anything, if the phone is glitchty after your rebuild, then factory reset it and then restore from the backup.

Sorry if I'm being too annoying and big thanks for helping me out.
Just to confirm once more. To insure that a personal data, installed apps and apps' data/cache remains intact after rolling back to Oreo from Pie I need to delete these files prior to flashing old firmware:
All files with ".ta" extention
Userdata.sin
Appslog.sin
Diag.sin
Qnovo.sin
Ssd.sin
Persist.sin (especially this one to keep SOMC FIDO Key & SOMC Attest key )
Is it correct, or I missed something?

Too bad I'm unable to start any in-phone app (except settings) right now, as the desktop is stuck on "Phone is starting...", probably because of Substratum themes (like you've answered in other post).
Also when I am connecting the phone to PC and starting Companion, it says that my phone is locked and I need to unlock it with password or fingerprint, but the thing is it is unlocked... I have tried to disable the password through settings, but upon password confirmation I cannot get to the next screen, there is no transition...

I'll be honest when I used Newflasher I didn't bother with any of the .ta files, just Userdataxxx.sin and Persist.sin, I don't knon what the .ta files do and it didn't make any difference to me, I got prefect flash, no loss of data. I copied the .ta files instructions from someone else, I can't find the original thread now, but I don't think you delete all of them, espesially not the one in the boot folder.
Is there a way to backup all data with other software other than Companion?

So no need to delete "Appslog.sin", "Diag.sin", "Qnovo.sin", "Ssd.sin"? Just delete "Userdata.sin" and "Persist.sin" and all ".ta" files from Root directory?

Try reflash, but take out nothing but the two .sin files, ignore the .ta files. That worked for me.
Took out from firmware root directory files: "persist_X-FLASH-ALL-C93B.sin" and "userdata_X-FLASH-CUST-C93B.sin" and flashed once more. Same thing.
Firmware folder with Newflash looks like on the screenshot in the attach
So I have flashed back to Pie 9 again, my phone started up, I'm again stuck at "Phone is starting..." screen and Companion says that my phone is locked.

Did you do a backup with Xpria Transfer?
Try and download the firmware again perhaps the original download was corrupted. Also, try to flash without taking out Userdata, perhaps there is something that is not backwards compatable. Although I'm sure there would have been reports on the forum if that was the case
Then restore with X Transfer.
If all else fails use Xperia companion to repair your phone.

Unable to use Xperia Transfer, as the phone is stuck on "Phon is starting...", unable to get to apps. Even after pushing alternative Launcher through ADB.

You have to make the Xperia transfer backup at the begining before you start, it's too late now.
I'd say the only thing you can try is to flash again and wipe the phone. Don't delete Userdata and let the phone factory reset.
I think it would be plausible to assume that going back to previous version would need a factory reset as there could be a vulnerability in an older fw that could let people gain control and access the data without a proper password (or something).
Also j4nn mentions the necessity of flashing userdata when downgrading to a firmware where gaining temp root is possible on the TA backup thread.

Hi, I lost my IMEI's and tried everything to fix it. Ended up storing the phone and grabbing another note 9.
Someone did post a fix recently so I took out my no Network Note 9 after 6 months and tried it. It worked !
You need TWRP and a backup of your EFS partition (If you did any backup of your phone through TWRP try that) but only restore the partitions below.
" I wiped all partitions (except internal storage and SD card), then restored EFS, ODM, and ODM image partitions only. Did not reboot to TWRP, simply went to TWRP home and restored all the other partitions (vendor, system, etc)."
Hopefully that helps.
If it works maybe thank the original poster here:
