My AT&T Tilt/Kaiser LCD screen was cracked, and I called HTC (1.888.617.1113) just now (Oct 30). HTC told me that they do not provide any service/RMA for this model for the time being. Asking when will the service be available? The answer is "Not Sure!" This is quite disappointing!
So, watch out your Kaiser/Tilt. Use it carefully.
I asked how much it costs me to replace the LCD once the service is avaiable. The estimated cost will be from $120 to $180.
Is what you have AT&T branded or HTC branded?
this is normal, and it's the same in most counties, if your at&t messes up, you take it to at&t for repair, it's like that for most carriers, if you have the HTC Tytn 2, you have to send it back to whom you got the phone from, or to the county that the phone was registered to, US will not repair anything, thats because it's not officially sold yet.
thats one disadvantage buying from online store, where most of the products are imports.

Mine is a AT&T Tilt. I bought it from AT&T last week. On the 2nd day, the screen cracked.
You'll need to go through AT&T for service (that's why you buy it from them). Perhaps they'll offer you a "refurbished" model in exchange...
Alternatively, if you purchased by a qualifying credit card, you might want to pursue a "purchase protection" route. This phone (like all PDA devices) is explicitly not covered by AT&T's insurance providers.
Don't shy away from a refurbished unit, they are so new, most likely you will get a new one. That's what happened with my 1st 8525 that failed in the first few weeks, I got a new one.

Take it back to ATT -had issues with my 1st Tilt, and they replaced it-no problems. + it's on a 30-day, no questions asked return. They didn't give me a hassle at all.

why do they offer insurance for $4.99 per month if they will not honor a phone replacement? I have the option to add insurance.
unless insurances has been purchased, i doubt at&t will even do anything, crack screen is not covered under any warranty.

AT&T explicitly told me in the store that there is NO insurance available for this phone, and I have a premier account, so unless you know something the rest of us don't, insurance is NOT available.
Yes, it's ridiculous that you can add the option to include the insurance, but if you try and make a claim, they'll tell you that all PDA's are excluded from the plan.
If you're already paying for insurance, call AT&T and demand a refund (they'll give it to you and confirm that PDA's aren't covered).
You might be able to add insurance but its up to the consumer to know what they are adding if they do it themselves. On the ATT Insurance page they explain the entire process and list a link for Ineligible Devices. Problem is most people click thru without learning what they are adding thinking they know.

First of all, I took my Tilt back to AT&T, and they refused to swap me with a new or refubrished phone. They won't exchange any phone with physical demage (in my case, a crack screen) once I left the door the day I purchased the phone. Also, AT&T won't sent back the phone to HTC for me. I have to do it by myself. I bought the phone in Daly City, California AT&T store, they have lots of lousy people working there especially the assistant store manager, so erogant and bad attitude. For that, I have formally complainted him to customer service already.
Luckily, I purchased the phone with American Express card, and I can get purchase protection from AE. That's why I called HTC, and they said they are not providing any service for Tilt/Kaiser now. I was suggested to call back in two weeks checking the availability of the service.
Because of your thread, mario, I bought the LCD screen from Nicholas. The shipment is on its way. I followed your instructions in the thread, and unscrewed 4 screws at the back of the moving part, I dared not to go further because I cannot remove the case. Any technique you can share with me? I won't try again until I physically receive the shipment from Nicholas.

If you are still within your 30 days call AT&T customer service and explain to them that the screen has malfunctioned they will send you a replacement overnight. Definitely not greater than 2 business days. The same happed to me when I bought my 8525. It wasn't the screen it was the keyboard, but I was never charged. I took it into to two different at&t stores and was told something the same as you. I'd had the device about 1 week at the two week mark I called 800-331-0500. The gentleman took my information over the phone my replacement arrived the next business day. If you are outside of the 30 days, ask them to transfer you to warranty department. They will send you a refurb unit. I know this because they first tried to connect me to the warranty department to be shipped a refurb unit until I pointed out that I was within my first 30 of my contract.
The stores make there their money from hardware and accessories. The company makes it's money by keeping you as a customer.

Why not skip the bastards at the store? Call up CS and chances are, if you keep a pretty good attitude, they'll hook you up with a replacement.
Calling repeatedly sure beats driving down and asking of them in person, especially if you know they're jerks to begin with. Over the phone, get a jerk, hang up and call again.

They do some repair work. Not sure if they are able to get parts for the Tytn II, but it seems they are at least fmailiar with things of this nature.
Yea... NO PDA INSURANCE through ATT !!
...that's probably the ONLY thing I miss after switching from Verizon! Vzn does at least honor PDAs on their insurance plans. If ATT had offered it, I would have bought the Tilt instead.
My two options were 1) the local (Chicago) store I bought my TyTN II from offered an extended mechanical warranty at the time of purchase for about $150/yr. They will replace it if anything goes wrong...but there are LOTS of exceptions and clauses in the warranty! 2) I could specifically add the TyTN II to my home owners insurance policy.
For me, this was the best option since it covers mechanical, theft, drops, kicks, splashes (etc) and it won't cost me anything but a small deductible unless/until I ever need to make a claim.

They did a great job repairing my former Pocket Loox 720 screen. They had a great turnaround time. I overnighted it to them Monday and I had it back Wednesday.

I did call HTC a week ago, and, by then, they do repair Tilt/Kaiser/TyTN II. In fact, I was asked if I want to send my Tilt back to them. If yes, they can send me a RMA number. Due to the fact that I want to compare the repairing cost with local repair shop that I did not get the RMA number. I searched around the repair shops, and NONE of them is able to fix the Tilt for me (may be it is too new model.)
HOWEVER, I called yesterday, the message had been changed. Without getting any information from me, HTC told me that they are not able to provide any service on Tilt/Kaiser/TyTN II.
bersca, you are lucky that you get a RMA number. I do suggest you to keep tracking the status with HTC. I am afraid it may take very long for you to get back you phone. Good Luck!
So I just had to do initialize a warranty replacement for my phone due to the 'creaking' some people reported involving the corner of the phone. I just don't want to risk it getting worse or me being annoyed to no end because of it so I figured do it sooner than later.
Anyway, I called today because I assumed that the same policy that governed the Galaxy Nexus applied (You have two weeks from the date you get the phone to do a clean-and-clear replacement of the device for warranty issues anything after that requires mailing out for repair.)
However, the guy I talked to tells me that this warranty is different than the Samsung. Like with purchasing a phone through a carrier, if your phone has any problem covered by the warranty, they will replace the device no matter how long it's been since you purchased it (so long as it is still within the 1-year warranty)
I have to say I am so so very pleased to see this! My greatest fear with buying the phone is that if something went wrong I would have to mail it out and be without a phone for several weeks like was the case with the Galaxy Nexus. I figured since so many people have no shortage of complaints about the device I would share something that has very much improved!

Google processes all warranty claims for the phone (no referring you to manufacturer like they did with Samsung)
If you call to report a warranty-covered issue with the phone, as long as it is not caused by you (ie: your screen doesn't work because you dropped it and it cracked open)
Google will send you a link to "re-purchase" a replacement device through the google play store which puts a hold on your credit card for the sale price (less shipping+tax) and emails you a shipping label.
This part may annoy some people but really, it makes sense. Cell phone carriers don't need to put the hold because they have your SSN and can send you to collections/cancel your service if you fail to return the phone but Google has no such leverage.
Once you send back your device, the hold goes away and you're good to go.
You have 21 days from when you get your new device delivered to send in your old phone.

Where is this policy published?
That's good news. I am getting my phone this week but I'm too busy with work related stuff that needs to be completed before I fly out to Europe for vacation until mid. January.
I was afraid of discovering an issue when on vacation and getting screwed just because I cannot receive a new phone and send in the old one. No need to worry I guess.
The 'hold to cross-ship' replacement policy has been in place since the Nexus One days, and is a great policy.
It's not actually THAT great. Everyone doesn't have $400 disposable at any given time. So say I don't have any money and my device breaks then I'm S.O.L.. That my friend is not okay. They can't put a hold on a card if there's no funds there.

Never SOL on a legit RMA claim. .cross-ship is just a great option offered, especially if your phone is somewhat functional, you're not out of use at all while you get new unit. Besided it's not El Goog's fault you're broke.

Yep the warranty through the play store is the only reason I didn't buy from elsewhere... Well that and the price. They always do advance replacement instead of having you ship the thing back on your own device and wait more than a month to get it back. It's one of the few things Google got right with their hardware selling venture. Unfortunately for me, I have terrible luck with replacements. Couldn't get an n7 that wasn't more borked than the previous one. My n10 has a very slight issue but the replacement has the worst screen I've ever seen. Didn't want to go through the hassle of endless card authorizations and shipping devices back and forth so I'm just going to keep it. My n4 has bad light bleed and half the screen is yellow so its replacement is on its way to me and I pray this one breaks my replacement curse. I wish they actually did some kind of qc on their replacement stock before shipping, especially given that critical buyers with problems are much more likely to scrutinize the replacement device once they have had a bad experience to begin with.

The problem here is, people are far from honest. I see people here claiming fraud for a lot of things just to get something for free. Number one I've noticed are fraudulent warranty claims. Or selling a broken phone on ebay as working. Everybody lies.
Would Google really send out a phone for "free"? It only makes sense that they charge you for what it's worth. Think of it as a core charge when turning in an alternator or some high priced item for repair. You don't return it? It's your money you're losing.
I hope this is true because with my galaxy nexus they told I needed to contact samsung if it was a hardware problem because they only deal with software problems.So after I contacted samsung I had to ship my phone to them and waited 2 weeks get it replaced and I had no other phone to use because it was my 1st gsm phone after leaving Verizon so I could be contract free.So my 1st experience with them sucked.

Just to clarify on the last point.. You have 21 days to return it from the day you receive the email detailing how to order a replacement (sent by the rep you speak with on the phone) and so if your replacement takes 14 days to ship, 2 days to arrive you've only got 5 days left to get it back to them which is cutting it short. :/

I initiated an RMA last night and I fully intend to return my defective device, but the whole deal with them shipping you a new phone before you send yours back raises an interesting question.
What'd happen if you didn't send yours back and just kept the two? Obviously you'd be charged for both so there's no theft going on, but for those that wanted to purchase 2 and coul could only get one, could they theoretically 'buy' another device this way? It'd be unethical of course, you scamming (in a sense) a phone that countless people are trying to get their hands on, but no more unethical than those scalpers on eBay. They say you have 21 days to return it otherwise your card will be charged, so this could be a very sneaky method of beating the queue.
Like I said before it's unethical and I don't intend to do it, but for those that want a second device for their partner or for someone else... Food for thought I suppose.

Well they would get to keep the money they put on hold, and charge you for full shipping.
They would also probably black list you as a customer, so you could never order from them again.

To start off, YES, this is a rant thread about LG and its outsourced repair center, Stellar Wireless in Fort Texas.

Spoke with 10 different reps at LG USA to confirm i could send my N4 for repair to their facility. Apparently, I can, as long as I have a return address in the States. Sweet deal! Cost $153 for repairs vs. $250 from Canada supplier in Mississauga (All Tech-Neek Electronic).
So i prepare my package, pay the fee of $25 for having it shipped via UPS (bad mistake). Everything is going well, phone shipped off on February 1. It ends up reaching the facility but gets rejected! Why? because at the boarder for Canada/US customs there is a "Customs Delivery Charge" aka COD fees on any products being imported in the States. Well, i wasn't aware of this. The repair center rejects the package, I am on the phone for 2 hours that same day, being transferred to 4 departments and given 5 different numbers to call, eventually i get to the right number. Pay my COD fee of $35 off. Sweet, so now i can ship it and my headaches are over right? I wish that were true, UPS sends it off a 2nd time. It gets rejected cause there is the "COD Sticker" on the package.
Essentially, if that sticker is on the package, the repair center doesnt check to see fees have been paid. I get on the phone with UPS AGAIN, speak to 5 different departments and get them to say to the repair center that the "COD is paid." If you have followed this thread this far and are aware with UPS, I'm on my final and 3rd strike! SO needless to say, 3rd time worked and it got delivered! Yeah!:good: Butt....
So i'm sitting at home, waiting for the email/phone call to repair my phone. I receive it on Feb 19, total cost: $153. Sweet deal! Fill out the information and send it via fax to the LG wireless facility. Now according to that repair form, They have 5 business days to process the payment and get my phone fixed. BUT guess what? My phone mysteriously leaves the repair center on Feb 21, which is 2 business days after i sent the payment. Now did they receive it ? I don't know. I called that same day to ask about the fax, and no one was able to help me. So i called FEb 21, asking about my phone and they said it was repaired and sent off. Cool story right? But my visa never received a payment. Now i call today, and find out my phone was NOT repaired and it was sent out. Why? Once again, NO ONE KNOWS.
Needless to say, calling LG 10 times, UPS 15 times, and being transferred to different departments and ALMOST getting my phone fixed....in the end, im at square one again. Its en route to my friends house and I am sending it back to the states forking out the $250 and getting it repaired locally. /Rant. Frusturated beyond belief at LG Wireless, Stellar Wireless (Repair center) and UPS (not informing of COD fees, even the store i shipped it from didn't know about that).
Just needed to rant and share a terrible customer service tale about trying to get the N4 repaired. Canadians, keep your phones in Canada and pay the extra money to know it will be done correctly and properly the FIRST time in your home country. I am applaud and frustrated with this situation.

Update: thanks to those who read. Apparently the LG staff are either retarded or poorly trained. An executive supervisor just informed me that my payment was received and the phone is actually "fully repaired and visa has been charged." Now i dont know whether to believe it or not, but she sounded confident, Only time will tell, should have my phone back in 2 weeks. Will let everyone know how this repair service turned out.
Well that sucks... but doesn't LG have a repair center in Canada? I called the Play Store to get an RMA for a faulty battery and they sent me a UPS shipping label to a repair center in Fort Worth Texas so I called again and told them I was calling from Canada and the issued a new shipping label to an LG repair center in North York, Ontario.

Good Phone/Poor Glass
I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago and LOVE it! Everything about it is awesome, except one thing...the glass front and back. It says that this glass is gorilla glass. I am thinking after 3 weeks that it's the cheapest "gorilla" glass they could put on the phone. I say this because I dropped the phone from 2 feet off the ground directly on it face (with a case on it) and the front glass shattered rendering the entire phone completely useless. I've done some research online and found that several hundreds of other Nexus 4 owners have experienced the similar things. I read one review where someone was at their home computer working while their N4 was just sitting on their desk like it had many time before. The user said it say in one spot for about an hour or so and he hear glass crack. Looked all around their apartment and couldn't figure out where it came from. Then they looked at the back of their new N4 and the back had cracked in two spots. As much as I love this phone I have to say I am very, very disappointed with LG and Google for this phone. with ins thru T-Mobile USA I have to pay $130 for a replacement, once it comes in I will be selling it and buying a Samsung GS3. My wife wanted this phone also and we almost got it last Friday, but held off for whatever reason. She is now also going to buy a Samsung GS3.

Sorry Gorilla glass is not shatter proof. Only scratch resistant. I love how you blame the phone instead of your self.
So I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had with walmart service plan on there nexus 7's.
My son broke the screen on mine and they were real quick about getting me a shipping label and saying repairs would take no time, The day they got my tablet they said they repaired it and sent it back, But when i got it back the grey bezel piece was cracked from when they pried open the back, the screen was sticking out so far that i could pull it out with my finger nail and the touch screen did not work and to top it all off there was a piece of paper in there with some ones initials saying they had checked the functionality and made sure every thing worked LOL . so now i am waiting on another shipping label. Maybe the second time is the charm? has any one else used the warranty from walmart on their nexus 7's? if so how was your experience?
Where did they send it? sounds like some sort of dodgy 3rd party company that has botched a repair big time without even testing it or anything
I'd demand some sort of refund/compensation
Life time service center in Ontario ca, I think i complained enough that i get a refund might have to go buy 2 used ones lol
The only time i used the service plan was for water damage on a Straight Talk phone. They just sent me a store credit card though.

I am about to do a warranty exchange today for my galaxy s8 plus, i had a issue where i was not able to charge the phone because it kept saying moisture detected when there was no moisture in the port (i cleaned out the charging port and usb c cable as well). I have also been having a few issues with the phone freezing here and there so i am going to do a warranty exchange.
Before i do though, does anyone know if the warranty phones that T-Mobile is sending are new or refurbished? My phones not THAT wanky where i would want to take a risk with a refurbished phone.
I just want to know if any of you guys have done the warranty exchange, and if yes when? and did you receive a new or refurbished device.

**Update: got the warranty phone yesterday, definitely refurbished. Whats worse is that the phone has 2 scuffs on the top left and bottom left and a nick on the top right. Its not horribly noticeable but the phone i turned in was in perfect condition and why do i get a dropped abused phone?
Going to haggle T-Mobile about it and see what they will do, most likely ship me out another refurbished device...

Mine is s8. And bought it brand new when bogo offers. Also exchanged it for warranty exchanged because of a red dead pixel. Went to T-Mobile store yesterday m Monday and they told me warranty exchanged always replaced with a refurbished units. Wtf! And they said hopefully i.might get brand new cause the phones is only just months old. But she said its not guaranteed though until T-Mobile will shipped the phone. Will update when i get it. Hopefully by end of the week.

When I did mine I got a new phone. I did it through T-Mobile about 2 weeks after I got the phone.
Most cases they send you a refurbished phone. It usually comes with out accessories and no original packaging.
I think the only problem with refurb units it the aesthetics, I wouldnt want an $800 device to LOOK like **** however, I am ALL PRO repair and fully believe in hardware repair, as long as it is done by a competent person..... The internals / logic board circuits are all the same in refurb and in new, it would be nice if refurb units get to have improvements but highly unlikely due to schematics..... anywho, I whouldnt worry too much about receiving a refurbished unit as long as the exterior looks to your standards.... inspect it before walking out of the tmobile store, I dont know if youre able to do a store pickup, if not then it would be a bit more difficult to make your case with them......

When i send my mobile in for repair and they send me a scuffed used looking phone back, i would raise all hell on them.

Update.
My s8 exchanged already delivered to one of my nearest T-Mobile store. Can't pick it up today, i call the store and asked if its braned new and she told me it's a refurbished! Will go tom and check the unit.

Unfortunately you are hearing the truth. T-Mobile offers a timely exchanged device (Next Day if you have insurance, 3-5 without) at the cost of it being refurbished. Usually if an instance occurs within the first month of device launch you'll get a new one but past that there's no guarantee.
You can check to see once you arrive at the store. If the box inside the packaging is a slim T-Mobile box, then it's refurbished. If it's in the official box, it's brand new. If it's refurbished, you can refuse the order and it will be shipped back to T-Mobile at no cost to you.
You can go through Samsung. They cannot guarantee they will not use refurbished parts or device, but there is a chance unlike with T-Mobile. I went through them direct for a dead pixel on my S7E. Was without my phone for 19 days, but I got my same model back.

Update:
Got my s8 exchanged this morning. Phone comes with T-Mobile packaging. And he said it is a refurbished unit. When i checked the unit it looks brand new. All stickers are still with the phone except from the front screens. No dings, no scratches or anything. And as soon as i turn it on. I already got firmware updates 3 times until May patched. So happy with my exchanged unit.

It's my understanding that they (TMO) will attempt 3 refurb warranty exchanges before giving you a brand new device. I would be super picky, and return as many as you can that aren't 100% perfect.
I had the s7 edge that had the bottom right edge with completely dead pixels and it took 2 exchanges before I settled on a refurb - which just came back to haunt me Friday as I dropped my phone and it messed up the digitizer. No visible damage, and I had the famous unicorn beetle pro + TGSP combo and never had a bad drop until Friday. Had that refurb for 11 months and couldn't do anything with it. So here I am with the s8 now (the + was too dang big lol).
If I had to guess based on the s7 unit I got, it had a screen replaced and was done with poor quality parts. My wife drops her s7 edge on concrete what seems like every day and has had no issues.
tl;dr: keep sending them back until they agree to send you a new unit.

Yeah Samsung takes time lol but I make sure I have insurance with my phones so I can get new ones,not used ones
