I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem with Google being the highest battery user since the update?
UPDATE- Since removing myself from Google Beta my battery drain is back to normal.
Yes, same issue.
Same here, this is significant

I'm removing myself from the Google Beta program to see if that helps.
Same here. Big change.
Same here. Big change.
I hope Google fixes this soon.
Seems to drain an extra 20-30%
When I was at 80-70% I'm now at 50%.
Nothing crazy here. High usage in terms of time but not battery percentage.

Yup me too. dropping 20-30% overnight
Came here to add that I'm in the same boat. Significant battery drain when my phone is idle.
Guess the December feature drop also contained a battery drain "feature"
Google, perpetually in Beta.

same. overnight drain is ~15%, exacerbating the already ****ty battery.

I flashed the factory image and that fixed it for me. I'm now losing 2 to 3% overnight.
After removing myself from the Google Beta program and reverting back to the normal Google app my battery life went back to what it was prior to my OP. As of today the same issue is back with Google being the highest user running for over 8 hours. I'm at below 50% when my typical day off from work use, would have me in the high 70's/low 80's.

Ambient EQ, motion sense and smooth display are all off and I always set up as new.
Same issue, except the December update fixed it for me. I'd fall asleep with 90% charge and wake up with 30% left. It was like the Pixel 4 came with Android 4.
After the December update, my "adaptive battery" stuff seems to have started working. I've gone from 1 day 10hr standby time to 2 day 15hr (and still slowly climbing)
Pulled phone off charger at 100% last night and woke up at 97%

What type of drain are people getting while phone is not in use?
Last night I dropped from 64% to 54% in 9 hours, despite the fact that better battery stats showed 97% deep sleep for the time period. Seems bad to me. On lots of other phones, overnight drain is in the 2 - 5% range.
Yes, active notifications are disabled while I sleep. I don't even have touchless control set up yet, so it can't be that. I have the same few location services turned on that I always do, and like I said, I usually see 2-5% overnight on other phones, not 10%.
Anybody else?
PS for those of you who want to say who cares, I did this test because I was noticing faster than usual idle drain during the day, too, but sleeping is the best time to get a long chuck of idle time.
Edit: could it be because the phone always has those sensors on waiting to to see if the phone moves to light up the time? Or the double twist for camera sensor always being on?

Get "Better battery stats" or a similar app to see what is running during idle. But to be fair that is just over 1% an hour.....that is not awful whatsoever. The only way you could get any better would be to disable any wifi/data, and those location services.....OR just turn the phone off completely. I've had phones that have had way higher drain on idle than 1.5%.

Not sure whats going on but the battery on my Note 3 is horrible since the update. I fully charge it and 1 hr later (not even using it) I've lost 5-10%. It barely last the whole day now. I've even wiped the device and it continues to happen. Doing a quick test right now, fully charged its been off the battery for 20 mins and I'm showing 27% usage on the Android System, 10% on the Android OS and 15% of the screen and its down to 97% already.
Any ideas?

things to try: (no this isnt a 'disable anything useful like email and google plus' post )
1. camera - there is some well documented issue, if you open the camera app, there is some kind of battery drain going on. google it, there is tons of reading material for it. temp fix is reset.
2. I have noticed google now makes my battery life do what yours does, drop 10% easy in an hour of it being completely idle. open the app, disable google now, and then see what is going on. i hate disabling anything but its worked for me.

Same thing happened to mine. Went to bed at 95%, killed all apps, empty ram, turn off data but left wifi on. Woke up 8 hours later and it was down to 17%. Unprecedented 10% hour drain. Usuallly it drains 3 -5 percent overnight. Same thing happened to wife's phone and she is on Sprint but she left wifi and data on. Uninstalled Google camera and Skype and notice it went away. Testing it again tonight.
Edit: Test it again last night. 4% drop in 8 hours. Woke up to 96% this morning. Hopefully that fixed the problem.
Update: Went to bed at 11:30 at 68% and woke up 7 hours later and battery is still showing 68%! Surf the web for 5 minutes before battery drop to 67%. Amazing standby battery drain. I had turn off wifi, bluetooth, and data before going to bed and killed all the apps. Usually this will cause a .5%/hour drain but it barely drain .5% in 7 hours this time!
My battery life was fcuked: losing 40%-%50 overnight while it was inactive sitting on the nightstand.
(Factory reset did not help at all!)
Now after futzing with the WIFI setting, last night I lost only 5% total in 8 hours sleep time.
Furthermore battery read 18% remaining at 10:30 PM and still read 18% at 4:17 AM.
Now this is more like what my iPhone 6 gets while sleeping.
What seems to have fixed by battery woes.
I changed the (Advanced) WIFI frequency setting from Automatic to 5Ghz (which would not work at all) and then to 2.4 Ghz only.
As of today I have 87% remaining after 3 hours of casual use (after charging to 100%.) Previously (for the past week since installing Lollipop) I was losing about 25% per hour during casual usage - ridiculously bad battery life.
Hopefully this will work for someone other than myself. I had just listed this thing on Craigslist because I cannot use a phone with 4 hour battery life.
Good luck.
Just set it to the same WiFi setting, will get back with screens.
Thanks though, I have brought this phone recently and thought it was only me getting bad battery life :\ I've had to charge this phone more than I did my nexus 4. I brought it off someone after they had used it for 9 months.

try setting it back to auto and see what happens. IE, try to replicate the issue and the fix.
For me, I went back to KK 4.4.4 factory image and took OTA seems to fix the wifi idle to just same as OP overnight (~5%). But after some use, it can drain quick but not as quick as I was on custom ROM (all kinds I tried).

This can happen when the phone is being moderately used before a longer idle period. The battery percentage will actually go up to compensate for the earlier usage estimation, giving the illusion of zero drop over night. It becomes clear after seeing the graph and the line going up only to drop down to the pre-idle level.
Kind of annoying since I'd like to see how much was actually lost over night. Just something that happens with the estimation process that is our battery level.
I recently switched from 2.4Ghz only back to Auto mode as it seems the WiFi speed drop issues are no longer present on my particular home network. No battery drain or issues yet but I will keep a close eye on it. Thanks for sharing.

I think your statement is true, as I noticed that with OTA updates, my idle over night is very low. However, upon using the phone the battery immediately starting to report drastic drop in percentage number. I mean this is cruel as in it gives us a false sense of battery consumption over all lol.
I will try it thanks
I'm going to give this a try. I've been using an app to turn wifi off when asleep but am still getting higher drain on wifi with the screen on than should be. Will report back after a day or two.
Personally I don't think they fixed the wifi miscellaneous drain and just hid it in the usage stats. My battery life has never been the same since the final dev preview. Luckily I'm always near a charger.

Right, I did read the OP and actually did make the same adjustments. However, I didn't see any improvements on my KK 4.4.4 upgraded to L via OTA in terms of idling overnight. My idle stats are very good even prior to the adjustment mentioned and same post adjustments. However, the freaking issue is when I started using the phone.
I think it is varies wildly for each user and their phone.
" the freaking issue is when I started using the phone.”
Indeed, this is another issue with this phone. Battery is too freaking small.
At this point i am back on my iPhone 6. iOS is a bit rigid for my taste, but the thing is fast, great screen, and runs two days on a charge, call quality is superior, louder speaker, etc!
Battery life is critical, yo.

I feel ya, I tried a 5s and iOS 7 out for about 6 months because it looked nice. Had great battery life until I had to jailbreak it to get it to do what I wanted (which is stock/non root stuff on android) and apps from cydia rocked my battery ;-( then it was like why am I having to tweak the crap out of this phone to do simple things I want that shouldn't be a big deal in the first place? Finally just decided to come back to my N5 in the end.

This. I hate how much my battery drains when my screen is on. I'm convinced some of it is Lollipop though. I got a feeling it is also related to the memory leaks.

Agreed about ios, but it is getting better. The notificatiins just got a lit better....little things are slowly improving.
Something that is GREAT on iOS now: voice to text is screaming fast now, and extremely accurate. I rarely type emails and texts now. No kidding!
I went back to 4.4.4 last night - as while the idle drain was fixed with these settings, the overall battery life while using the phone under LL is still relatively miserable.
4.4.4 seems a bit better...
Now I see that 5.0.1 is apparently being released in the next day or two...we shall see. So far the release notes say nothing about a battery fix.
On 4.4, I observed a massive reduction of WiFi wakelocks by setting static IPs in my home network. So if you have problems, give it a try.
is it possaible some app drain it in overnight?
Does no one else realise that a major OS update needs to "bed in" for a good few days? The battery life performance is a lot better on LP. I've an HTC desire 610 though and it goes days between charges. It's a 420 battery but 1/4 hd screen. You take your choice of features and find your phone/s
I have been getting pretty good battery life with my Pixel 4 XL since I got it last month, really no complaints, and significantly better than my 3 XL. Actually surprising good battery life I'll say.
But last couple of days, Google has been #1 in my battery stats. Last night I went to bed, didn't charge the phone, had like 40% battery life, woke up this morning, and it's in the red at 5% WTF? I looked in battery stats and Google was 46% first on the list, followed by Ambient Display, and then Screen.
And I have all the Google crap off, no location stuff, I just turned off app sync, and I always have Google limited not to drain the phone. So what could all of a sudden be causing this?

Screen off 0.7% / hour is pretty standard for Pixel phones. If something is waking the device you can find it usually with Better Battery Stats either on XDA or the Play store. I usually check alarms and partial wakelocks to see if anything is amiss. Sometimes a reboot will clear out the alarms of particular apps. Here ya go.

No it doesn't. Pay attention to this post (#4) and follow the adb instructions to a T. Sometimes you need to restart the BBS app so either force stop it or reboot the phone. Don't forget the hidden_api_policy command (Android 10 and above) at the bottom.

These are your battery stats.. and you aren't happy with them?
My battery is wayyyyy worse..
First, what app are you using to monitor the battery in the screenshot?
Second, is this with mobile service and data on as well?
My phone doesn't idle as good in airplane mode with wifi on!
Makes me feel like there's hope after all for decent battery..
Ill post my stats tomorrow.
And try to get to the bottom of my battery issues..
The app is AccuBattery and it's indeed accurate given enough cycles
It's not that different from my 4XL, still waiting on the 7 to arrive.

First, The app is accubattery.
Second, nope its not data or wifi on. With wifi on it standby drain is okay. But with mobile data its worse i mean far worse. As if its not enters doze or standby only. At best with minimal use it'll last 16-18 hrs with confidence then the low battery anxiety kicks in... I was hoping a far better standby drain. Coz i was optimized it as much as i can. Didn't install anything much. Blocked all the background activities. My p4a with a smaller battery had better standby. Even i heard p6a with tensor 1 chip had better standby drain. I hoped tensor 2 had better optimization efficiency on this end.
I'm in the same boat. Very disappointed in standby battey drain. Mines like ~3-4% per hour when out and about during the day! With 5g off.
Seems crazy high to me.
Hoping some custom kernel goodness or custom rom will improve this...

3-4% is harsh man. It happens to me when using mobile data.
I came from the P6 and have been using the P7 for about a week now. I personally have not seen any noticeable difference in battery drain between the P6 and P7.
Here is my accubattery summary. Screen off at 3.5% per hour, over 80% deep sleep. Even deep sleep state consumes 2.2% per hour. Unbelievably bad.

That's a little much. Most it should be is around 0.9% / hr and perhaps as low as 0.5%. Find out what is waking your phone with screen off and you'll have the solution. This is not a Pixel 7 thing but a you thing. (well your device not necessarily you)

I'm not sure if it's a wakeup issue though. As shown in the screenshot, the deep sleep is above 80% time of total screen off time. And for the deep sleep state it consumes 2.2% per hour. The phone idle item usually also contributes to about 30% - 40% of battery usage overnight when the phone is in standby, which seems to be a good thing according to some opinions I read, since it means no single problem app (user app at least) draining the battery.
I only have the phone completely set up and running for the past week, so I still have patience and see for another week if it's the system still settling down on something. It's just ridiculous to see the phone down to literally 70% from fully charged after an 8 hour sleep when there is not an obvious single problem app.
Maybe I need to start using the good old BBS again...

Yes, BBS will certainly help. My deep sleep with screen off is around 90+ %. One thing to try is a reboot of the device right before you go to sleep. Any partial wakelock and alarms will be cleared out unless they are constantly syncing something in the background. I also think that by now it's pretty much settled so it's something else. BBS is better than Accubattery for stuff like that.

Here is my accubattery summary. Screen off at 3.5% per hour, over 80% deep sleep. Even deep sleep state consumes 2.2% per hour. Unbelievably bad.

Here's my AccuBattery stats and BBS stats from last night. If I charge it to 100% then the screen off is around 0.5% / hour probably due to the reporting in Android being not entirely accurate. I think I unplugged around 85% last night I try not to go too much above that. As I said something is waking the device up I believe.
Thanks! I installed BBS yesterday and will let it work for a day or two and start troubleshooting. If we compare our accubattery stats, it's interesting that your deep sleep consumes 0.7% per hour while mine consumes more than 2.0% per hour. Even my deep sleep state has problem.
Edit: this is BBS from the last 8 hours or so of complete idle.

The summary and partial wakelock are similar to mine last night only difference being my good signal was 100% where as your moderate signal was 91%. I don't believe that would do it. My overnight drain was 0.8% / hour. Kernel wakelocks never really showed me much but I'm sure the experts over at the BBS thread could shed more light on that with a log upload according to the OP. But I think more important is your alarm screen since unplugged. What does that look like and what's at the top of the list? That might help narrow it down.
Boot into safe mode. Observe drain.
Not sure why but last week kde Connect suddenly locked up my whole phone, disabled now it's better.
When I tried safe mode I had 88% after am 8hr shift. Blew my mind. No idea the culprit but clearly user apps running amok
But, I never experienced stock. Immediately flashed GrapheneOS so I figured was due to to their build
