Hi, a few weeks ago I had the pixel experience and I tried to encrypt the data, when I clicked the encryption button, the device only restarted and was not encrypted. Today, I decided to format and install Lineage OS 17 to clean up the phone that was full of apps a bit, I try to encrypt and it gives me the same result. How do I encrypt the device?

Hi,
I've got XT1068, updated to 6.0 Marshmallow. In the past, I got it FDE (full disk encrypted).
Few days ago I unlocked my bootloader to gain root access on my phone using http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/simplified-modifying-boot-img-t3317605
everything went as expected, but by unlocking it wiped all userdata, so I wanted to re-encrypt the phone (and the external SD especially). But now, encryption fails, telling me "encryption fails, you have to reset your phone" each time I start the encryption, ending in a userdata-wipe.
So I thought about going back to stock fw.
After locking the bootloader and applying stock 6.0 FW, I tried again to encrypt the phone, but I am still unable to do so.
Can someone help me giving some suggestions, how I can fix that behavior and (mainly) how to get some errors/debug shown?
When selecting "encrypt now", the green android symbol with black background is shown for 5seconds, then the phone reboots, shows the bootscreen with the M, then it restarts again (after ~30minute) and shows after another 20seconds the message that something went wrong encrypting.
Ok it seems that I found out the problem in my case by myself.
Instead of using mfastboot.exe -w to delete the data and cache partition, I used recovery mode to delete userdata. I did it twice, since the first run, returns some errors.
After reset, I started the phone and got the fresh-install screen. I skipped mobile and wifi networking and did not entered google account details. Then I restarted the phone and waited for ~5minutes and tried to encrypt - everything works. Everytime I started encryption without waiting for some time it failed.
I hope I can save someone else some time, since factory reset takes ~15minutes each time you do it.
Hello, i have a strange behavior regarding the encryption on the oneplus 3t.
Since i got this phone i always had encryption enabled and with every restart i got a prompt mid boot process to enter the encryption password.
Same behavior when booting into TWRP, yes, my phone is rooted and i'm running freedom os with magisk su so i can bypass safetynet.
For some last days i stopped getting the password prompt, the phone booted right into the os, i figured when choosing the reboot option it only soft resetted and still had the keys in memory.
Tried turning it off and on again, still no password, tried booting into TWRP, and no password.
When going into the safety options it says that the phone is encrypted.
Haven't installed any new applications lately, but i started using the second sim slot since i was on a trip, removed the sim and still no password.
I'll try and wipe and reinstall since new version of freedom os is out.
Does anyone experienced the same thing?
Maybe it's some kind of malware?
Was running Freedom os 2.8 that is based on 4.1.3 but will soon be running Freedom os 2.9.
Hello everyone, i have a Little problem, i'm actually on latest aex mod 8.1 and everytime i try to install a miui based rom (epic and masik) installation is going fine, boot too but i'm stuck with a message telling me that encryption was unsuccessfull a message pop ups to restart phone and perform a Factory reset to solve this issue.i hit the button, phone restart to twrp wipe automatically data i guess (don't really remember) and reboot and again the same message. I've never encrypted my device and twrp dosn't ask me for a password. I've only set a fingerprint with pin code to secure my phone. Still i could restore my aex backup with twrp.
Anyone could explain whats going on?
Édit: same error if i try to install RR 7.1 it tells me that encryption (not decryption) was interrupted and had to reboot to twrp and restore a back up. I'm really confused
I'v got a problem after flashing los16. After the nexus 6 reboot I've got a screen where I have to enter the password to start android. After that there is a screen that show's "encryption unsuccessful... the password is correct but your data are damaged...you have to do a factory reset..."
After the factory reset the phone starts automatically and ends in the same screen
Did anyone get this message? I'm unable to boot into lineageOS.
Twrp version 3.2.3.0
Thanks for your help
In twrp, select wipe-> format data/ factory reset. And that's it!
I recently installed the latest Arrow OS 10 sanders version on my phone, everything was working fine so I decided to encrypt it as I needed to install some apps from my work. I did it in the Security options in the OS, not using TWRP in recovery mode.
It's been 3 hours since the phone is stuck in the bootloop screen, it already rebooted alone once but nothing else. What should I do? Keep waiting more time or what?
Thanks!
Hello,
same over here:
If I use lineageOS (lineage-17.1-20200720-UNOFFICIAL-sanders.zip - see https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83100891&postcount=24), the phone gets stuck in bootloader screen when encrypting the phone (I let it run for 12 hrs). The same applies to HavocOS.
If I use EvolutionX (EvolutionX_4.6_sanders-10.0-20200810-0503-OFFICIAL.zip - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...nt/rom-evolution-x-4-0-moto-g5s-plus-t4031813), the phone gets into a reboot loop, once I order it to encrypt.
I've also tried an earlier version of lineageOS (lineage-17.1-20200105-UNOFFICIAL-sanders.zip), which used to work since February 2020 - with encryption but without any hazzle.
Any ideas on that?
I've tried it with
twrp-sanders-r20.img (twrp-3.2.1-r21) and twrp-3.4.0-0-sanders.img (twrp-3.4.0).
What is also strange: even if I format the system/data partitions, the phone still has the Microsoft Exchange services installed (I installed them during this entire mess, since I'm required to use it for company access). I thought, I should have been removed by formatting the phone... not?
Thanks a lot.
