FM radio not working - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Hey guys. So I have the Australian LGV40 lmv405ebw model. Doesn't come with the FM radio pre installed so I installed the stock FM radio and next radio but it's not working whatsoever. Gsm arena said it's FM compatible but it's not working. Is there any way to enable the hardware so I can utilise it cause this was one of the reasons I purchased it?
Disappointing cause I do travel occasionally to remote areas with no coverage and it's so handy.

Typically, headphones must be plugged in so that the natural antenna action of the headphone wire can be used for reception

Tried that, to no avail. I'm aware of that. Used next radio and stock FM radio which I downloaded manually.

Atleast the European V405EBW has the FM module disabled (for whatever reason), so i guess its the same for the australian :/
Some US models have it enabled though. You can typically check from your bootloader kernel commandline ( /proc/cmdline , needs root to read) if its supported in HW or not.

Yeah I think it's exactly the same as the European models. I've heard the US models have it enabled. Is there a possibility to enable it myself?

Its disabled in hardware... except you find out where to solder what exactly, i dont think theres a possibility (bootloader reports that fm isnt supported on the v405ebw, theres a kernel commandline appended for that)
I tried to use it in Lineage, didnt work (had FM stuff added in LOS16, then fm stuff broke in 17, didnt readd it yet), but worked on the US models
So i guess you would need todo some serious soldering or change the motherboard ?

can the fm radio firmware be made to work on the nexus

Wondering if this is possible I would like to have mine running a FM radio for work
This has been asked a few times already and the answer is not yet. Untill google gives us a radio that supports the fm transceiver there's no way we can get to it. Maybe when the desire is finally out we can get it from it.

Why no FM Radio?

Has anyone contacted LG about the FM radio? Why wasn't it in the update? Are they just not going to turn it on for us? Don't understand that at all. Why build a phone and then limit what it can do? I'm thinking that we might get ICS update with it enabled? That is the only thing I can think of that makes any sense.
Firstly, it's LG we're talking about.
Second, if I'm wrong, then I must be on crack, but I don't think they ever advertised it to use FM Radio.
Plus, you have to use the Bluetooth for FM Radio, which in turn, isn't adequate for a FM receiver. Plus, think about it. If they DID add it, how many users would be complaining that they have to use bluetooth for radio?
Ice Cream Sandwich? Yeah. I wish. LG will be making CRAPPY versions of ICS and they'll be encrypting their files.
I'm not going to lie. I ONLY got the phone for the 3D. That's about it.
My only suggestion is to be like straying sheep and wander away from LG.
You dont have to use the bluetooth on GB. It has an FM reciever in it, its just not turned on? I got the phone for a penny thats why I have it. I knew I wouldent use the 3d. Im not a gamer; It is cool for about an hr. then I need my phone to do real work. I am pleased though, very nice phone for a penny. If I was gona drop some cash i'd get the note.
The FM radio doesn't operate over Bluetooth. It just shares a radio with bluetooth. This is why you need to turn bluetooth on, it activates the fm radio reciever. This is confirmed by the fact that the headset doubles as the FM antenna.
We already know the phone is capable. Its just a matter of making it work.

Then I must have been on crack.
I must be muddling up my phones. -.-
So we all know it has an FM receiver. I'm just pissed because lg did not enable it. I guess it could of had bugs so they just decided to scrap it. I love my Google play music, but like to hear the local radio to. Not a big deal, but if your like me, then you want your phone to do all it can even if you don't use it for such.
i just tested CM7 a few days ago... they have FM Radio on the rom and it works... y Lestat doesnt??
not LG's fault, but ATT
1. the phone does have an FM receiver.
2. the FM radio IS enabled, you only need to install the LG FM radio program to use it.
3. In ATT version of the software, they (ATT) stripped the FM receiver software away, not LG.
4. the LG FM radio package from the Optimus3D works perfectly in the Thrill, since it's exactly the same hardware, but you need to install 2 other applications (the fm radio provider and the fm service)
5. if you're using a froyo based rom, you will have to start bluetooth for the fm radio to work.
6. if you're using a GB based rom, you don't have to start bluetooth for the fm radio to work.
7. Attached the 3 apks that you need to install. After installing them, pls reboot before using them.
We all have the same apk's I didnt get them to work on v20p. (should of included that.) It works on most custom roms with old basebands. I will try your files. Mine might be wrong.
It just force closes on v20p.

Definitely blame AT&T for that.
They changed kernel settings.
I emailed lg 3 days ago. I have yet to hear back. Ill email att tonight. I told them it maks them look bad when you guys can get this to work b4 them. No names of corse.
Fm works for me I am using AcidHazard ROM 3.5 with stock 20P ATT kernel
you're right
I have used so many firmwares that I didn't remember which one I was using.
fm radio apk works fine in 21d (european) and 20a (brazil).
Besides that, both don't have all the att bloatware, so the phone works better and drains a lot less battery.
I didn't have problems with my country's 3G bands (we use 850 and 2100 here, and both seemed to work fine in those firmwares, although I didn't find documentation about that)
If I had to choose, the brazilian 20a seemed smoother, and with overall better reception.

[Q] Razr i FM radio after JB update?

hey all, sorry if this has been duplicated, but i'm curious as to what will happen to FM radio functionality after JB update, I know EEUK branded devices have already received jb update with a few other networks, can someone please verify if FM functionality stays intact or is lost after update? I have GB generic retail... cheers

Well, FM functionality itself is still there I assume, but that particular application doesn't seem to work anymore. it starts OK, but then it constantly loading, don't remember exactly what the message stated - had to uninstall it same hour I had updated to JB.
From the fm radio thread on here, the Spirit FM apps developer after looking at a JB eu log from the appn concluded:

Yes, sadly, I think this is the end of the line for free, over the air FM on Razr I's.
The Motorola OEM Proprietary FM API is gone, and likely the stock Motorola apps won't work now either, since they use that API.
On rooted phones, IF I spent the time getting Intel NDK support going, access via /dev/tifm may be possible. But Motorola may have removed the FM audio support too, and I have no idea how to bypass that.

It should be possible with the GDR2 update. If you've already got it you should find FM radio in the music hub as long as the phone fully supports it

Hmm, that sounds weird. I've got radio in my music hub, and I'm also on GDR2, but on a Lumia 920. Could be that there are some incompatibility with the ATIV S. Tried a hard reset? I flashed my Lumia so I got a "free" hard reset

FM Radio requires also a OEM update on top of GDR2 that adds the drivers. This was the Amber update on Nokia phones.
I've recieved ALSO OEM update post GDR2, titled as usual SAMSUNG Firmware update. And still no Data Sense, neither FM
Hmmm, that's weird. I imagine that another OEM update must be coming in order to enable FM Radio. Thanks for the diag screenshots though. Others were telling me that it was missing some board in order to have FM Radio functionality, but this pretty much proves that Samsung still hasn't included a package for it yet.

+1 here man.
BUT... why should we always be ****ed in some way by the Samsung's incompetence. My previous phone was Omnia 7, the one before that i8910 Omnia HD - the Symbian one. I also had a Bad (the first "Wave" device i think it was). My point being that the vicious circle of total software related incompetence and post-production software support weaknesses from Samsung. It's always this way with them - they create awesome hardware in terms of engineering (and even in that area they tend to overlook certain aspects - the "beneath the camera heating" of the Ativ, similar with the Omnia 7 before that, now the different BT Stack/FM chipset in our ATIVs). But the software part is where they got dunked. Even the Galaxy devices are filled mostly with a first party bloat and shovelware, with almost all of their "top" features are basically junk and gimmicks.
And that company is struggling for years to create and assemble a dedicated software followers and devs. Even their current line up of software for the ATIV in Samsung Zone is mediocre. Just see how many Photo related apps with a lots of overlapping features they have.
The Omnia HD device didn't had Java 2.0 mobile virutal machine out of the box. The
They had AllShare DLNA app for WP7 - but not for WP8? Reason - unknown. My reason - cuz they are aholes.
The others have an FM radio - they had it before - now - they don't! Reason - unknown. My reason - cuz they are aholes.
They tend to say they support WP, but can't cough up some money for some out-of-the box Navigation solution a-la Nokia style? Reason - Greedy, but don't want to spare a little chunk of those huge revenues the earn, to support a loyal customers like us.
They don't create or distribute (or they don't give em enough marketing impact to be recognized by the devs) in general. Instead of that focusing on all kinda of "dead-by-birth" projects like Bada, Tizen, and so on and so forth..

Well, do you know what the SoC is? The MSM8960 SoC has built-in chip with BT4 and FM. No one can remove the chip for fun. Only software support is needed to get it working because hardware it self supports it already. So the very only thing here is Samsung's will and nothing more.

The Bluetooth hardware in the Lumia 820 and 920 is part of the SoC (system-on-a-chip) provided by Qualcomm. The specific version of the Snapdragon S4 used in the Lumia devices is the MSM8960 (dual core version), clocked at 1.5GHz. Specific Bluetooth support is provided by the WCN3660 "Combo Chip", which also provides WiFi and FM radio functionality, and is a piece of companion silicon to the main central processing unit. Both Bluetooth 3.1 and Bluetooth 4.0 are supported by the WCN3660.

There are two hardware things missing from the ATIV S from Galaxy S3 !
- WCN3660/80 chip not in the ATIV S hardware spec witch gives you Bluetooth 4.0/FM Radio.
- No hardware LED notification light.

pretty sure the lack of FM Radio is due to the absence of the WCN3660 chip (which the Lumia 920 has). Pretty sure that's tue reason why the ATIV S hasn't received Bluetooth 4.0 certification. Likely that the ATIV S will never see FM radio.

t-mobile Nexus One radio frequency fix?

I have an original Nexus One ordered from Google locked to t-mobile. When we moved to europe we found the data didn't work, because the radio didn't handle those frequencies.
So now I've flashed it with the evervolv ics and I find the radio is now doing data. So I'm guessing the radio was software limited?
(apologies if this is a known thing - I am pretty pleased with life right now and wanted to share!)

Did you flash the radio or just the rom? Could it have been you didn't initially have the proper APN settings applied ?
Good call
You're right - just the ROM.
When we signed up with (O2? I don't remember now) they theoretically set everything. When it didn't work I may have gone in and tried to re-set things, but it's possible I messed something up - I'm not really savvy on that side of things.
