According to Reddit, the newest Samsung devices which includes Device Care (360 protection), is a spyware app. This system app collects your information and it sends your personal information to the Chinese government. If you care about your personal information, I would recommend getting rid of the stock Samsung firmware and install a Project Treble enabled GSI or a ROM that is made for your model.
What do you guys think about of this built-in "360 protection" feature?
Is it something to worry about or no?
Anything posted on Reddit should be taken with a grain tablespoon of salt imho.
If legit sites report it then ok, but Reddit? Yea ... nope

Well both of those quote Reddit as the source, so I'm still skeptical.
If someone is worried about stuff like that all they have to do is flash a custom rom - or install a firewall etc. to block access to the web for that app.

Hi, guys...
I actually don't think this is something to worry too much about. But if are you concerned about it, it's pretty easy to disable Samsung Device Care without root, via ADB...
--------------------------------------------------
To disable Samsung Device Care...
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.lool
To re-enable Samsung Device Care...
Code:
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.lool
*****
I've successfully run both of these ADB commands on my Samsung A8 2019 tablet. Currently, it's disabled, since mid-January 2020, without any problems.
--------------------------------------------------
More details about disabling system apps via ADB can be found here...
https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/?nocache=1
---------------------------------------------------------
Hope this is of some use
Rgrds,
Ged.

Why would Samsung send info to the Chinese govt? If you said this about Huawei, it might make sense, but Samsung is a S. Korean co. and China is their enemy.

Assuming that such a ridiculous thing even existed (there are scams on the market that claim to be antivirus programs -- they're NOT), it WOULD.

While I agree with lbcoder, the "MICROSHAFT" comment was unhelpful and unnecessary. Ever heard of/used an anti-virus product on a WinMo phone? Nope. Me either.
And for the record... Linux and OSX have viruses as well.
Don't worry about a virus on your Android phone.

i've heard of at least one, but i can't remember the name of it.
a job i was doing some years ago saw the boss and myself using imate jasjams (HTC TyTN?).
my boss managed to locate an antivirus app for the phone and installed it.
no idea how well it worked. i didn't bother with it.
Symantec had/has one for WinMo. I used it for a while. But it was more of a gimmick than anything else. Never seen a virus or a positive scan.
I would say because of the nature of Android we shouldnt see much in terms of viruses, however the system leaves much too control to trojans imho.
read bout this new app from droidsecurity called virusfree, meant to be good. They also offer a phone tracking service so you can remote wipe the memory if it's lost or stolen, that sounds pretty handy as I've previously had a phone stolen and it's a pain to change passwords etc

wouldn't virsus be possible if they do manage to get root access? I know a few of the customized ROMs require no notification for applications to gain root status. I am sure with root, an application can some how manage to do some damage. rm -r /sdcard anyone?
Hi guys
Im using custom ROMS from this portal. I would like to ask if it is necessary to have antivirus isntalled on my phone "SE Xperia X8" if i only install apps from Play Store and I dont download any files like movies, mp3 etc. on my phone.
I know its good when you have a such thing but when it isnt necessary....
So I would like to ask your suggestions, you know much more like me if you create some ROMs and kernels and many more.
Thanks a lot guys

who will make phone virus LOL
@OP - I use AVG, it's not a ram eater or battery drainer as those above say.. (funny they say that when they don't use it)
It's very naive of those above to think that Android cannot get viruses.. It can and has many, even in the PlayStore.
Remember that all roms here are rooted which means they have NO security.
An AntiVirus is a must to protect your data.
Anyone can put an app in the PlayStore - we've all seen some of the cr*p available there.. The code is not verified by Google like in the Apple AppStore so viruses and data theft is easy to accomplish for those who write bogus apps.
The choice is yours ultimately but I'd never run Android without AVG..
Good luck!

The level of complication in building such a device won't let you know if an issue has hardware or software origin.
I don't understand why people are against Knox, as Samsung introduced similar checking system long time before. The only reason why people aren't angry because of that is fact that there is a workaround for that.
Consider that people at Samsung aren't stupid and they know that messing with device is causing problems. Of course that some issues like faulty buttons may be independent from rom flashing but services don't want to check it. Tripped Knox give them a lot options to check and that cost money.
It is sad that everything come to money, but I think that everyone is clever enough not to support products that have been modified heavily.
Additionally, what you want to add to this is theres new tech in aosp built from knox.
also the wording of the petition is terrible and should have been editied and proof read. it comes off more as a petulant child not getting his way than a genuine want or query. and as for wording, listen what you need is for them to change the fact a knox flag affects warranty. not remove knox altogether

Directive 1999/44 / EC dictates that seller must repair product and it is his role to proof that root caused the issue (for example). In most cases Samsung is warrantor and not seller.
When people will understand that?

The app is working well, but the bad news is, Samsung took it down of github. Not sure how this will move on, i really liked this solution.
Just Sammy feeling threatened by their own guns.
@PlutoDelic
It's not just a matter of being threatened; ELM/KLM Keys cost money.
Depending on your organization and use (Corporate Vs. Education/Development Vs. Production), the cost ranges anywhere from $1 to $87 per device per year. However, I believe, in specific circumstances, there is no cost but you are limited to a set number of seats.
What Samsung SHOULD be doing is allowing us to unlock our bootloaders in exchange for our warranties.
Then we wouldn't have situations like this.
I completely agree.

Not that. Some people just prefer to access a messaging platform than a forum. Is way too easy. A lot of phones (e.g, Xiaomi's and Realme's) have Telegram groups with bots and notes to facilitate the use and search for features, mods, etc.
I don't really understand why this phone doesn't have active devs. When I look up at YouTube I see a lot of videos from different countries and it appears to be a good selling one.

Well yes, stock as in not AOSP, because only Samsung's firmware gives full control over the camera.
And yes, debloated as in no rubbish apps from Samsung.
I'm not sure what customising kernel can actually give you as benefit, I'm not Dev.

What I'd be worry about is how to install it. Since there isn't a simple way to even root the firmware.
