Well, the phone's been out only a year so it should get it. Always worrying when you see the manufacturer promising updates for other devices but not yours. Why do they do that? I sold my Moto 5gs because of the lack of updates, so won't be buying them again. Ditto Samsung. Maybe i'll just get Pixel phones in future. I expect more than 12 months support (plus I read that Huawei/Honor were switching to quarterly security updates - we'll see). The Honor Play was very good value for money, and it would be hard to justify devices without SD card slots but I'm really not in the "get a new phone every year or two" game. My chromebook has an EOL date in about 5 years time; why shouldn't my phone, too?
Looking forward to the dark mode, although puzzled that it requires OS support.
With Project Treble and Mainline you'd think that Google are almost at the point where they can roll out OS updates behind the manufacturers backs.
Interestingly, looking at the Android dashboard, which historically has shown Android OS usage, you can see it's been down since May:
https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards
I wonder if this is going to come back in October when they announce the Pixel 4, and they're going to blow everyone away by saying Android 9 adoption has beaten all the other versions?

Probably, the biggest downside of honor and huawei phones is the lack of bootloader unlock codes, which leads to not much developer support. So I'm just always kinda looking out for updates
There is no official confirmation for Honor Play, unlike the Honor 8x or Honor 10 etc. Even if we do get the update, it isn't going to come anytime soon. Check this out: https://www.xda-developers.com/emui-10-android-10-update-timeline-huawei-honor/
The phone is still a massive value for its current price in terms of raw performance. I'm pretty content with it. Despite the quirks of EMUI, I've grown quite attached to it and will prefer it over almost all other android skins except probably full stock android...
Possibly, we might get Android 10 on Honor Play second quarter of next year.
I don't know how much we can trust this picture
But it's highly possible that we can forget about emui 10 for next 4-6 month for sure because emui 9.1 has been rolled out just yet
It is becoming obvious it will take time before Honor Play will receive EMUI 10 (if at all it will receive the update). It is not even on the list of Honor smartphones that will get Android 10 in the future. I am surprised to see Honor 8X included but not Honor Play.

Honor 8x got sales numbers. Honor play didn't
Honestly this is bull****. Why the **** people buy a ugly ass honor 8x with kirin 710 when they can buy a honor play at the same price
It is not getting. Honor service in twitter confirmed that Honor play is going to get next major android 10 updates due to "hardware limitations".
This is particularly strange because Honor play has Kirin 970, the flagship processor of Huawei of 2017-18. It is the same processor of the p20, which is scheduled for the update.
As Honor won't be sending it. Thus I am planing for unlocking bootloader in any way as soon as they push emui 10 update lol

oems have been doing it forever. it happened with my glaxy s3, galaxy s6 and now honor play. shame that these oems promise updates and then they dont accomplish it. only if honor allowed bootloader unlocking, it wouldnt be bothering this much.

But samsung have changed and now apparently promise 4 years of upgrades. The android one site is out of date and doesn't include the new £99, £129 etc phones nokia have announced which will get 2 years support. Seems funny typing it - like we should feel grateful to get support. It should be 5 years. But yes, huawei/honor aren't getting any more of my money. If you knew the honor play was going to get 1 os upgrade around 14 months after launch and that's it, would you have bought the phone. I wouldn't. Fool me once...
Hi all. I recently bought my first Xiaomi phone taking advantage of a launch offer on Amazon Italy (phone + Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch for 650 euros instead of 830 euros).
I was happy to have a device with a Snapdragon 888 processor, a super camera and an excellent 120 Hz screen but it took a few hours of use to realize that the biggest flaw of this device is the operating system.
I have been using Google or OnePlus phones for years, currently I also have a OnePlus 8 and I must say that the switch from OxygenOS to MIUI was devastating.
Handling background apps and notifications is awful. Often the notifications are not grouped or are identified correctly (those of Telegram are associated with a contact even if they are from another), in the background applications I find the same application several times. Using a "Pixel Experience" theme didn't improve that.
I prefer a device that is more like stock Android than a badly made iPhone.
I think about returning the product to Amazon but I'm here to ask you: why should I keep it? Am I wrong with my approach?
Help me make the right decision. Thank you.

I dislike MIUI as you. Nevertheless i use Xiaomi phones since 4 years. I use the developer rom (weekly) from Xiaomi.eu in combination with nova launcher. I like the multiple options (extras) of the rom based of latest android, the removed ads and bloadware and their grandiose community/ forums for the rom and the phones.

Wellcome to the club
You are on the righ place.
Here you can learn how to customize the hell out of your device. I also use "Nova" launcher and that makes experience so much better for the start. And I apply "viral" custom icon theme pack across all of the apps.
In time developers will start releasing custom roms here that are maybe for your needs and likes. So just be patient and you will fall in love in Xiaomi and the device. No need to return it, it a good device that will just become better in the near future with upcoming updates. There is a 12.5 update coming sometime in April which will have much improvement in many segments.

Ciao compa'
Coming from a Pixel 4XL and yes: devastating.
Using Nova Launcher or installing Xiaomi.eu will solve none of the problems that you are having. Actually Xiaomi.eu, even if based on 12.5, may make experience worts since you'll get Xiaomi apps for browser, dialer, contacts etc. Although Xiaomi.eu does not have the notification problems that you, me and everyone else with a EU Android 11 ROM is having, also on Mi10T phones.
If you contact me via pm I can try to provide some hints to ease the pain...
promised here https://liliputing.com/2021/06/huaweis-3-new-matepad-tablets-run-harmonyos.html
I'm skeptical but that's interesting. I'll have to replace the device anyway this fall (as I need a recent version of Google enterprise services to run on my device) but I suppose it would be nice to have some updates on the P20 Pro if only as a backup device
I already moved on but keeping P20 Pro as backup device (battery replaced). It is very nice form factor, quite light, and camera is still very good even by modern standards. Anyway, will be reading reports of Harmony OS upgrades on P40 with great interest. Not a fan of Huawei UI, but it might be nice to get updates and patches for a 4 year old device
This is good and bad at the same time. On one hand, Huawei has finally adapted a good alternative for android, which means more competition(even if it is a fork). Also we might get Apple-like updates, only time will tell. These updates are opt-in so you are not obligated to use HarmonyOS. On the other hand, you can say goodbye to Google services and any root methods that were possible and not found yet. Huawei"s services are still trash and I fear we won't be able to remove the system apps even with adb. If they pull an ultimatum and allow us to unlock our bootloaders/root our phones.....New OS or not, I am moving to another companies. Maybe Asus/Sony/Xiaomi
Well HarmonyOS really? I don't see a Point Moving to it.. Im more than Happy to use LineageOS 16.0 on it Instead a few Months ago, Well HarmonyOS doesnt Include Google Apps and Kills Root Methods.. well i don't care i will Stick with other Operating Systems on my P20 Pro and will not Go Back to Huawei's Made Software until i will in the Future move to a Different Manufacture (Xiaomi or OnePlus)
In terms of software, I am totally disappointed with Huawei .. also how they Handle the Bootloader Unlock with a code .. Like there is something to hide about EMUI.. sorry but that's ridiculous.
You guys should stop spreading misinformation. P20 Pro came with GMS from the get go. If you upgrade to HarmonyOS on a device that had GMS (officially or LZPlay), GMS will still be totally usable. Even with the final build of HarmonyOS. People already tested this in the betas and final version. Don't believe me? Take a look at this video:

It's the first time I see anyone address the fact Harmony might support GMS. I don't think anyone here was knowingly spreading misinformation, but were rather making reasonable assumptions (I also assumed HarmonyOS wouldn't support GMS, even on my P20). I hope what we see in the video carries over to the final version, it would add a couple of years to the life of the phone
I'm not eager to switch from this totally usable(even great!) phone because of the huge slabs the flagship phones have became in the recent years. I'm not really eager to switch to harmony os either, because of the potential gms problem and integration. The only problem I have is the battery doesn't hold as well as it used to, but that is normal, the phone is 3 years old...
Bottom line, I still love it! It's almost a flawless flagship even today(thinking about changing the battery in their service, but it still lasts me a day)

I agree it's still a serviceable phone, but there are a couple of reasons I will need to jump ship. Lack of a major Android update (we'll be 2 versions behind and my employer doesn't let us keep a phone beyond n-1), and lack of security updates. Locking the bootloader midway through the sales cycle for this phone was a big mistake, it would have been one for the ages.
Guys good news. We gonna get HarmonyOS. Except it will be EMUI 12.

Seeing as we didn't get Android 11 on this phone, I'd be surprised if they provided Android 12. That would be a first, as far as I can tell.
EMUI 12 (beta for now) for older global devices has been confirmed to be Android 10 - based with some bits of HarmonyOS UI code. Nova 9 has been an exception, as it was released with Android 11 - based EMUI 12.x. I highly doubt we will ever get an updated Android 11 - based EMUI 12 on our older devices, when it gets out of Beta.

Well, thats mega annoying, had some hope we get a up2date OS once again. Shame on Huawei, after my P20 Pro im done with them for sure too. Not that they restrict Hardware Levels, APIs and so on, but this is too much on top.
Can you record phone calls with this OS?

Hi friends
Does anyone know if there will be any further updates for X2 pro, or is it time to leave?
I am wondering the same as there hasn't been an update since November. I'm fairly annoyed about their update policy. As a European user, I only got UI2 many months after other regions, there were only bimonthly security patches and now nothing anymore it seems. I either need to unlock it and install another ROM or switch to a different phone and potentially brand. Perhaps a new Samsung A series is better with 4-5 major OS upgrades promised. Realme has to bring their upgrade policy on par with other leading brands

Hello all,
I plan to buy the 10 Pro with colorOS .
I found this how to:
How to Install LineageOS ROM on OnePlus 10 Pro
In this comprehensive tutorial, we will show you the detailed steps to install the LineageOS ROM onto your OnePlus 10 Pro device.
www.droidwin.com
My question(s) are:
1. Is this work also with the coloros version?
2. The official site of lineageos do current not support this device. For get updates, is it better to wait? Or can this version fetching updates if coming?
Thank you for help
As there is no recovery tool. I recommend to stay on color os or oxygen os...
Remember there is a lot of bricked devices just waiting for a msm tool to work.
Thank you .. This I need.
I wait. Its better
That's just a GSI, it's quite simple to install but you'll be missing a bunch of features.
It's extremely simple to install, use the guide here on XDA to do so.
Recovery still works and fastboot enhances does too.
Unless you're a fool you won't brick your device.
I've installed every available GSI and they all have issues, you can use them for the most part but the issues will remain and alas will never be fixed.
Your plan to buy any OnePlus device is a flawed one. It's not a great device, only a device with great potential, potential that's never going to be realised.
Does anyone have any idea when lineageos will be officially available for the 10 Pro?

There are no plans..
The issue is that sources from OnePlus have not been fully released iirc.
Furthermore there is no tool to recover a bricked device so if something goes wrong during testing then we're stuck in limbo.
This leaves us in a situation where we have a very capable device totally blocked by the totally greedy mungbeans that are Oppo / OnePlus.
My advice, if you've just bought your device then return it, if it's still quite new but you can't return it then sell it and get any of the pixel devices..
The current situation will not change and if it does it'll be a challenge from start to finish for the poor hapless soul who dares to start flashing their deuce with a custom ROM.
It could prove very expensive at worse or hit and miss at best, both extremely time extensive and worrying at the same time.
Wish I had better news mate, it's a sad time.
Thank you for the detailed explanation. Yes, I understand all that. Fortunately I inform myself before I buy a device ... I don't have it yet and probably won't buy it.
My 7 Pro is getting on in years. It still works perfectly... But I still have Android 10 (lineageos) on it.
lineage_guacamole-userdebug 10 QQ3A.200805.001 286f3fd16d
I haven't been getting updates for a long time. All the important accesses (bank etc) are on the device. I can't afford a dist upgrade failure.
I think I will buy a 9 Pro. I like oneplus. I am very happy with it.
9 pro is a shout.. definitely have a look at the pixel 7..
7 pro was a great phone, I miss my 8 pro, it just worked and had that crazy photocrom camera...
Motorola edge ultra or the next nothing phone could both be a fair punt as well.
Oh, I am not a native English speaker. "9 pro is a shout"?? In my language, that can mean that the 9 Pro is great or that it sucks. Lol. What do you mean is a shout
