Is your service still Project Fi as mentioned in your profile? Have you tried this?
"Check the settings in your Phone app (not*the Google Fi app). Go to Settings, Voicemail, and make sure Notifications is turned on, and that you have selected sound and/or notification dot, whichever is your preferred notification."
Also, I would go log into Project Fi through a browser and check your voicemail settings.

I no longer have fi. I would update my profile if I used this as much as I used to a long time ago when rooting and ROMming was huge! Not so much anymore.
I use a service called q link. It's like an Obama phone service that uses Sprint. My notification panel says it's Sprint though.

Hello it seems Google Voice is not compatible with the Bionic. Is there a manual work around? I remember reading a while back a way to do this with the thunderbolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It says: unfortunately your carrier is not supported for automatic voicemail configuration. To use google voice as your voicemail provider, please visit the google voice help center more more information.
I got that error message too, but the voice mail does in fact work ok.
The problem I am having is that my google voice number is not showing as the calling number, even though it is set to be. I have tried changing the settings to ask each time, and it does not ask. It is still not working after rebooting too.

Just go to the google voice site on a computer and enter your phone number manually in the google voice settings on the website. It is a very self explanatory process once there. After that, go into your wireless network settings on your bionic and change the Voicemail settings from "my carrier" to "google voice." Not sure where this is on motoblur, but just look around and you should find it. If you get an error message or it freezes, do a reboot, go into the settings again and verify google voice is selected in the Voicemail settings. You should be okay after this.

Thanks for your help gotta it!
So caller id still shows my actual phone number and not my google voice number even when it is configured to do so. Any one else have this problem?
That error came at the point (for me) where it should automatically insert *71###-###-#### (*71 + your google number) in to the dialer to forward missed calls. So I did it manually and GVoice has worked fine for me. I did get one FC, but not sure if it was because of debloat or actual GVoice app. Other than that I have made calls, recieved Vmails and texts through GVoice just fine.

uninstall the app and try rerunning the setup, making sure you select use google voice for calls or ask when I make a call.

Hate to ask a silly question, but:
Have you checked your voicemail yet?
Also, in some VM systems I've used, if you listen long enough or go into an advanced menu, there's sometimes an option to clear the VM indicator on the phone.
Yes sir... That's why I am up in the air. I've even tried to look for the voicemail service to see if I can clear the cache and get it to get away but can't find it.

Try calling yourself and leaving a message. Then go to your voice mail and delete it. It should clear your icon.
I've seen this happen with T-Mobile and a new SIM several times.

My experience with this was I was using something else for voicemail. I use Better Youmail (Youmail) but as I was setting up the phone I got a voice message on the Verizon side before I forwarded over to Youmail to handle vm... I had no messages on Youmail but it was on Verizon side why I had the icon. I had to unforward the Youmail service to get to the Verizon side, delete the message and the icon went away. Then I set the forward back to Youmail.
My experience...
I had this

I had this a few times on tmobile in the past not on this phone?. I use google voice. I rectified the problem by calling tech support, they corrected on their side.
just had the same issue
Clearing the data + cache for everything with the dialer icon fixed it
Hello,
After too much time searching, and being stonewalled by project fi support, I hope someone here can assist me.
I am on project fi. I religiously use hangouts for my SMS as it works on all my devices/computers.
However, frustratingly, on my N6 I get double voicemail notifications. I always get voicemail routed to my hangouts, and it also always pops up as a separate thing in the dialer/phone app.
Thus, every time I get a voicemail, its double.
I would prefer to just get the VM in hangouts, but I would settle for just having them in phone dialer if need be.
Project fi support is useless on this issue. I have also posted in the fi support forums to no avail.
Does anyone have an idea on this? I can't be the only one with this issue. And yes, I have looked through the fi settings from a computer web browser.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I'm not in the US and don't have Fi, but since nobody has answered yet...
It may not be Fi. Is it possible that the duplication is within your phone, with separate notifications coming from two different apps? The fact that it happens only on the N6 points to this explanation.
If you search for "android double notifications" you'll see a lot of advice, though they seem to be SMS-oriented, as my own problem was.
Sorry if this doesn't help your particular problem...
Edit: maybe this...?

I appreciate your feedback, but it is a Fi/hangouts issue that others also have on the google support forums. It has been acknowledged by Fi support to me as well, but they don't have a solution right now except to use messenger.
Thank you though.

To disable voicemail notification from dialer (and retain in hangouts), try this.
Open dialer - menu/settings --> Calls --> Voicemail. Disable "Visual Voicemail"

Doesn't seem to be an option on fi with google dialer
Oh, duh, yeah... Fi is the service provider using your GV account. Didn't think of that
Do you have an option to disable the notifications in hangouts instead?

I could, but then my 5 other devices that let me make calls and receive my text and VM in hangouts wouldn't receive them anymore. The notification removal actually deactivates it for ALL hangout accounts. The whole thing is crazy. Google pushes hangouts for Fi, yet somehow doesn't have a fix for this.
You'd only be disabling notifications in hangouts on your Nexus - the other devices will still have hangouts fully functional.
I don't have a Fi SIM so can't try it out, but diabling notifications should not impact your ability to use hangouts on other devices

Unfortunately it appears the 'messages' check box would mean that I would no longer get SMS/MMS notifications either.
I appreciate your help though, but that suggestion unfortunately is a no-go as well. I also started a thread on the Fi help forum as well, seems like alot of others are having this same issue.
Very odd that google hasn't anticipated this on a flagship device with their flagship messaging app on their service.

Have you made any progress on this issue? I'm getting the same problem on fi service with my 6P. I tried project fi chat support but they were useless. I might try fi phone to see if I can get it escalated. I don't understand how fi and the hangouts integration was released like this or why it isn't more of an issue whereby the support people at google even know about the problem.

No, nothing. I think you have been participating on the thread with me.

We need to push google or they won't fix it.
Unfortunately many moons later and still no fix. Google is aware of the problem. I wonder if the lack of a fix is somehow related to the forthcoming allo release and transfer of purpose of hangouts.

Hey guys,
Having an issue with my OnePlus 3T on Project Fi. Since I started using the phone I have not been able to receive Voicemail Notifications. I tried to fix the issue with a suggestion from the forums, which suggested that I go into the SIM settings and turn off visual voicemail, but when I went into the settings that option was not even there. To work around this I've simply been using Hangouts for my Voicemail and SMS, but with Google doing away with Carrier SMS in less than a month I've begun the process of moving to a new SMS option and plan to do away with Hangouts. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get notifications for Voicemail's back on my OnePlus 3T? Thanks!
All of a sudden I have 1 number in my phone that I do not get notifications from when they text me. My phone for not ring, vibrate, light up, nothing. This only happens with this one number, all other contacts work fine. I'm using the default messaging app and on the latest Google update. Has anyone has this issue. Is there something that maybe I clicked on that could have caused this.

You haven't accidentally blocked that number by accident have you?
To check this do the following, go to the messaging app > click on the 3 dot menu > check to see if the number/contact is listed there.
If it is click on the contact/number and then click on unblock.
Hope this is of some help.
It doesn't sound like this is your issue, but carriers will have a separate block-list that works account-wide. For example, numbers blocked in the Google Fi app will be blocked for all phones covered by that account. I seem to remember my last carrier having something similar on their website.
Although, can you clarify something... does the SMS appear in your messaging app and there's no notification... or does nothing at all appear?

The message appears in the messaging app, I just don't get any notification. As far as I can see, it hasn't been blocked anywhere. It is my son's phone number so I know I wouldn't have done it purposely. I've thought about dirty flashing the FW again to see if that fixes it out just wait till the new one comes out next month

I checked and the number is not blocked. Hopefully next months update will fix it when I flash it.
If you use Messages, look at the notification settings and make sure you haven't toggled a conversation name off. Doing so would match what you're seeing.

Ok thank you. I'll check that, but suddenly it is working again. I am leading toward it being a glitch in the FW. I'm gonna wait till the new one comes out and upgrade it and see if it happens again
