While it may be technically possible to sideload the Android 11 Dev image on a locked phone, I would suggest that you do not load it unless your phone is unlocked. If you have any issues with the image and run into problems, having the phone unlocked will ensure you can fix it. If the phone is not unlocked, the chances of loading another image are reduced dramatically.
If you are uncomfortable unlocking your phone, you shouldn't be using the Android 11 Dev release.

Will there be a root method when we get the L OTA? And with locked bootloader?

Seeing that 5.0 source just dropped and moto hasnt even issues an update to l yet i think its far too early to say. But I think that chances are small with a locked bootloader seeing that the root method for the nexus 9 involves flashing a new bootloader. But like I said who knows.
Currently, we don't even have a way to root 4.4.4 on a locked bootloader, so once L drops on the X the chances become extremely slim. Rooting on the 9 involves flashing a different kernel that will allow the unsecured code to run.
If you are able to unlock your phone through whatever way, then you will probably eventually be able to root L. If you still have a locked bootloader, I wouldn't hold my breath.
The Nexus 9 isn't unlockable like other Nexuses (Nexii?)? What does this mean for the Nexus 6...?

I believe the N9 IS unlockable. However, to obtain root chainfire had to do more than usual. He wrote up the details on G+.

Thanks. Will this change when a custom recovery is available like TWRP that can simply flash root?

Takes a different kernel not bootloader like I think was mentioned above.
Hi All,
I want to relock my Bootloader on my Nexus 6 running Nougat N6F26U. Has anyone relocked on Nougat?

Hello... Why do you specifically ask about Nougat? Unlock/relock is not firmware dependant..
Something to read just in case you didn't find it when you searched: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-safely-lock-bootloader-android-5-1-t3067302
Good luck...

And why do you want to relock? Paranoid about security? Keep your phone in your pocket.
All advice in XDA is not to relock your bootloader because it reduces the possibilities of recovering if you ever make a mess of an update.

Thanks for the reply, I read it and didn't know if it would work on Nougat.

Just install a custom Kernel that "kind of" hide your unlocked bootloader. EX Kernel, Franco and some others will be just fine. Android Pay will work... I would never lock the bootloader of mine, except for RMA purpose. If something fails, you have way more chance fixing it..! :good:

Yeah don't worry, it's still a Nexus
RacerXO - did you get Android Pay to work on the N6F26U Build? I also cannot get the bootloader to relock. I tried using WugFresh Nexus Root Tookit v2.1.9.
Did you install a custom Kernal? Wondering if this the answer. Thanks for the help.
I was unlocked from the first day I got the phone. Today I am locked, running nougat. Having read some of the horror stories here, I've always booted the phone after flashing updates before rooting. Did the same thing when I went back to stock to use AP. I backed everything I wanted to keep and made sure it booted, before I locked the bootloader. No issues after almost a month.
What I wound up doing was go to the T-Mobile page and established the official latest factory image was 6.0.1 MMB29K - installed that using Wugfresh. After installing and logging into WiFi and my Gmail account was prompted to install 7.0.0 NBD92G - this installed fine and then after installing a couple of security updates (thru April 2017) was able to Re-Lock my Bootloader (I wanted Android Pay to accept my credit cards). Data reception is still degraded significantly, am now thinking there is a problem with the tower.

Rooting with Magisk then using Magisk manager to "hide" root should give you android pay again. This may not be the directing you want to go in, but it is an option.
I locked Bootloader but you have to flash stock recovery 1st
I was on stock 7.1.1 unlocked bootloader, rooted Nexus 6.
I relocked my bootloader by simply going into adb/fastboot and flashed the latest stock factory firmware image (not the ota) with the June 5, 2017 security update, rebooted, activated developer options and enabled usb debugging, adb/fastboot again, and entered the command "fastboot oem lock", hit okay/yes when I got the relock warning, and voila! phone relocked.
Rebooted and set up phone/reinstalled my apps, music, and files.
No issues.
Hey guys, this is my first xiaomi device and i would like to know, after unlocking the bootloader, do i still get OTA updates from xiaomi like normal, and if i do, can i update like normal without any complications. I am on Mi 11 Global, due for unlock in 48 hours

That's a relief.
If i may, a related question:
When unlocking the bootloader with the unlock tool, will the phone be factory reset? Apps and settings gone?
I ask because I don't want to waste a whole week setting my new phone up just for it to be erased when the unlock is finally available next Wednesday.

Yes, everything gets wiped. However, you need to be using the phone in order to unlock it after the 7 day period. If not you'll get an error saying you need to use the phone more, and then you'll have to wait longer.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. That's annoying but I guess I can use the phone for certain basic things while I wait.

There is no chance for that since the bootloader isn't unlockable.

Is there a post i have misses where i can see which apps and files needed to be transfered to have accesess to specific features. Or is that a figure it out yourself thing?
A start would be to install the factory service software 1.5, but the common version doesn't work. Need Chinese phone number to register on a download website for the adapted one - may give some more insights but without exploit no bootloader unlock.

It may be because i haven't ventured further. But as far as i can see on my phone, the bootloader should be unlockable. Or at least i have allowed OEM unlocking which states "Allow bootloader to be unlocked".
So is it when i get further into the process it still won't allow the bootloader to eb unlocked?

You can tick the "allow unlock" button but that's all. None of the unlock commands work. I think @jericho246 tested that.
I have a Moto Edge S pro, and he came with the global ROM, and of course, with the BL unlocked. My question is: if I root my device, will I be able to install android 13??? Cause he still on Android 11 and it takes a lot of battery, and using root can I block the bootloader? Or just using the unlocked bootloader, can I update my phone by myself? If yes, how? I saw here a lot of manuals but I'm not confident to do by myself without help, can someone help me? Thank you everybody!!!
There is no problem
I have official ROM 13
After the update locked the bootloader
and no problem(moto edge s pro)

Ok, I downloaded the stock rom (using the RMSA) but how can I know that it's already the one with android 13? Because my BL still unlocked and I know I have to put the command to lock again. So, if I install again the stock ROM of android 11 and block the BL, when my phone turns on, will I be able to update using OTA?
My suggestion that once the bootloader unlocked on a motorola phone let it stay unlocked then flash whatever compatible rom you want but don't lock back. Sometimes under special circumstances locking back can brick a phone. If there is an anti-rollback protection in your phone then it can brick the phone with locked bootloader and previous Android version.
