Nope. You'll need to contact your IT administrator as it is among the policies he set to use it.

Sorry, worng fourm. Can't delete, lol. Still interesting though
For all Samsung users.
I have no clue why this Module I stumbled on is not more known. It is amazing how well it works and what it does. It lets your Samsung device use .zip bootanimations instead of .qmg.
Its made by "afaneh92". I know him as guy the developed TWRP for Note 10 (N970U Snapdragon) my current phone. I can even use the bootanimation changer in the Play Store, thats hiw well it works. Its been about 3 weeks since i flashed it with Magisk. I shared it before but no one serms to care, for some reason. I think its pretty freaking awseome though.
Its attached if anyone cares, lol

[Q] Unable to unlock bootloader at 4.4.2, any solution?

I know there are threads on this problem with other Transformer pads, but I am wondering if anyone had this problem with the TF701 (WW)?
I just get the message about "Unknown error, might be network connection..."
Of course my network connection is fine, and I am using the unlock tool found at ASUS support site for the TF701. That is version 8.
I have tried this a couple of days, many times per day, it just gives me the same error.
I have read people with other Transformer models who contacted ASUS and gave them their serial numbers and MAC-addresses, which seems to solve the problem in some cases.
Others are refering to ASUS devicetracker (devicetracker.asus.com) which seems to be taken down, or is it just available in US?
I called ASUS, they never heard of the problem.
I am thankful for any help!
I think you ended up downloading the unlock tool for the TF700, not TF701. The latter only has one tool, version 1.
The former has the v8

Thanks, but version 8 is the right one. It's just called v 1.0 on ASUS TF701 support site.
Ok, in that case just keep trying. For some people it literally took 40 -50 tries and it worked all the sudden.
At the same time register your tablet on Asus VIP service, then conatct them and explain your problem.
The mismatched database entries was a big problem for many TF700 owners - haven't heard anything like that for the TF701 ever.
Send them a screenshot of your About Tablet page with each mail and ask them to check their database and correct the entry for your tablet.
Good luck

Thanks, I will do as you suggest and contact them via the support form instead of calling.
And I will continue hitting that button.
I just wanted to put in my two cents here. I've been having the same issues with the bootloader unlock tool for the last 3 months. I've called customer support numerous times and been told too bad. We don't support that. We don't care. I bought this tablet for its vast power but I am not even allowed to experience its full potential. I am deeply disappointed in Asus. It has been nothing but problems with this thing but through patience some have resolved themselves.
You're suggestion may have been the light at the end of my tunnel. I have never hears of the VIP support until now. I have done the same, registered and sent them a ticket request. I uploaded a screenshot of the screen saying password incorrect.
Here's hoping this can finally be resolved. If this fixes it, I'll be sure to tell everyone that's still having problems with the tool.

Yes, officially Asus does not provide any support as soon as yu mention "unlock". That's why people were telling them thry could not get registered for Asus Device Tracker (same problem: no s# in Asus database = no device tracker).
The VIP service people seem to be a little more receptive than general support. But it really depends on who happens to read your mail...
That's why you want to be persistent. Turn yorself into a polite and friendly PITA and don't forget to attach a screenshot to each mail you send.

Do you get "password incorrect"?
I think you have to turn off two factor login on your Google account. You may also have to log in to your Google account website and turn on "allow unsecured apps".
Does Device Tracker exist anymore?

I am not talking about the "Unknown sources" in Android.
I don't know the exact description since English is not my first language, but if you log in to for an example Gmail, then go to your Google account up to the right, you will find an option for allowing "unsecure apps".
I hope it was understandable.

I think I found what you're referring to. It's in the Google account management section. It's the area where you can make your internet experience immune to Google's pull. You can edit adsense settings, see your entire Google history, YouTube videos you've viewed all sorts of stuff. It's really cool, but unfortunately the boot loader unlock tool doesn't come up in that list of apps. That list consists of third party apps that have all already gained access.
If you're referring to yet a different screen, maybe a screenshot would be helpful?

If you are not using two-factor authentication this link should work:
https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps
And some info:
http://www.ghacks.net/2014/07/21/gmail-starts-block-less-secure-apps-enable-access/
But at least it seems you have access to ASUS servers when you got the "incorrect password" message.

Yeah, this looks like the classic database mismatch problem. Keep trying to use the app and contact Asus.
It really depends on who you happen to talk/email to. So don't give up. Just read about someone who bought an unlocked TF701 on ebay which was totally messed up and he/she got an RMA approved without any problem...
Ask for a supervisor, escalate it... If you're willing to give up your warranty - why should they care?

Bootloader unlock for S6 SM-G9250

So, according to drakon.us, Samsung has provided factory bootloader unlocker in the Samsung App store.
Search for "CROM Service", You can see the process here:
https://youtu.be/KTTgXqaP7Rk
I'm in preorder hell waiting for my gold S6E from Verizon so I can't verify independently. Is this something we can use?
Seems it's not showing up in the US Store. I'll see if anyone I know in that region can grab the app for us. Might be worth looking into.
So there was a link here to a place to find the app, then poof it magically disappeared. LOL gotta love how that happens. Regardless, the app that was linked did not work, it downloaded and installed fine, but when trying to open it, it just force closes.

Skyline,
No need for a hook up.There's a thread in the hacker/dev forum with both versions of the apk that I've come across... They're available to download there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...sung-factory-bootloader-unlocker-apk-t3086609
So is there a way to make this work .... FC for me after installing
Well like I said earlier, I'm trying to relearn all this after not using it for six or so years... My intuition tells me that this tool is invaluable, and we know it is functional as we've seen on a Galaxy Tab, it does install and load, but after the disclaimer, it FC's. This is telling me it is probable that the device is simply failing a version or class checker.
If that is true, depending on how this was created, the source can be altered to work with our devices. What's critical here is that these are official Samsung apps; we're not recreating the wheel here. What we're doing is looking at an unencrypted tool that was designed specifically for the purpose of unlocking our device. That's why I posted these to Hacking/Dev. While I am starting almost from square one, someone who is familiar with the environment and scripting language would be far ahead of me on the curve.
Will it work out of the box? Nope, but there is the potential it can be made to work.

Decompiled the apk and explored around a little, heres the strings.xml. Just wanting to share what it shows.
I really hope this goes somewhere. If this gets ported than I will be so thankful. If there is anything I can do to help I would but I have not much experience with programming
Title is misleading. I would edit it
Done.
Any updates on progress or is it completely dead?
By the looks of it you can get it to work you just need to obtain root first... Which means it serves no use seeing as the phones that have root are already bootloader unlocked

But phones with locked BL's can be rooted given the right tool is created. And if it is then once rooted we can unlock our BL's and flash Roms like everyone else.
Sent from My Samsung Galaxy S6 "Pure" Black
Root doesn't guarantee any bootloader unlock. If that was true, then every phone with root would have an unlocked bootloader, which isn't the case.
Root would be nice, but without an unlocked bootloader I see many bricks happening from inexperienced users pushing things too far and not knowing a way out.
This is not your typical Nexus crowd in here.

Package Disabler?

Does anyone know what package disablers work with the Note 9, it's been a year a so since I was with Samsung and package disabler appears to have disappeared from the Play Store.
Can I get it somewhere else? does it work with the Note 9?
It works but it also gets removed from Play Store periodically then it gets reinstated. People who purchased it its earlier reincarnations need to purchase it again, assuming they need to reinstall, if more than 6 months have passed. Needless to say a lot people feel peeved off (and rightly so) by the developer's attitude.

I had a look around at these but then opted to try the ADB route instead. There are various threads around on what to disable and it's pretty straightforward to do. I also wonder if just disabling the app via settings is similar or good enough. Haven't found enough info so far to confirm, but have disabled some apps this way too.
Is the ADB method the same as on an LG phone? E.g. pm uninstall -k --.......

Not sure about ADB, only time I've used ADB is for flashing recovery, I wouldn't know where to start.
I've disabled everything I can manually, although there are a few not sure about, after checking the play store via chrome package disabler pro is still available but not for the Note 9, annoying because I'm pretty sure I have the Pro version.
Also somewhat unrelated, why does the software on the Note 9 have such difficulty closing down background apps? even when you explicitly selected them to not run in the background, an hour or so later it's still active and using battery. :silly:

I don't know. I got everythjng through mail: a download link and a code to activate the app.
Maybe try and contact them?
Just in case someone needs the full tutorial for using ADB to uninstall a system app, check this link:
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
If you're not familiar with it,it's worth your while to read everything.
It's not complicated if you're used to using command prompts/ADB,however,be warned that if you delete,it's actually just hidden from the user, but, once you do this,it can't be recovered/accessed/re-installed unless you factory reset (less root access,of course).
The article/tutorial states as much, but,we're all human & at times,TLDR.......... :good:

Question Security

Morning all.
I'm still a noob at this but i unlocked and flash and running pixel android 12 on my Redmi note 10 pro.
I would like to know what security software or apps should i be running? Thanks Gents
Use a Vanilla ROM without Google and the PlayStore for your privacy secure. Use F-droid and Aurora Store with open source apps. Root is also a security risk.
Then use a firewall. Netguard (without root) or Afwall+ (root required). Another way is the add block app blokada. Netguard and blockada together didn't work of course they use both VPN.
A virus scanner isn't necessary. Use our brain and ublock origin add on in Firefox to surf securely.

There are better alternatives and forks of firefox.
Your original question was about security, and the comment above saying "use your brain" is mostly true, using your brain will safe you more than 90% of the time (using your brain meaning dont do or click something you don't have knowledge about. It doesn't mean you are stupid, as technology is not a general knowledge but something you have to learn if you are interested.) Just try to stick with famous foss softwares, try not to root, try to keep your phone with yourself, think hard before downloading or clicking anything. If you really want to boost your phone security, don't insert sim card, and try to stick with phone brands like pixel and flash rom like divest os. Overall android has a pretty awesome security model, you just have to take care of a few things...

I checked mull and it did have some unique fingerprint (I dont remember much) but I think it had unique canvas.

The fingerprinting protection column is rated accurately.
Most fingerprinting test websites just say "you're unique", without giving the full picture.
Firefox with resistFingerprinting (which is what Tor Browser/Librewolf/Arkenfox/Mull uses), attempts to group users into buckets of similar values.
If you check CreepJS in Mull you'll likely see a hit counter of >0, because of someone else having been registed with the same bucket.

Edit 2: Also tor browser for mobile does not have and support ublock origin i think.

It doesn't come with it (Mull doesn't either), but you can add it. Most will say not to add extensions to Tor Browser, but I strongly believe the benefits of uBO are worth it (faster page loads, less untrusted content).

That's why I asked above if the op uses for example sim card. I only use my device at home and don't have any friends. But I think it is a good idea for me to add just in case. It is to combat remote access threat right? Anything else?

I have already added uBO on mull and it works in private mode too.
Tor browser for mobile is always on private mode (expected) and uBO add on is available, but it cannot be turned on to work in private mode, and tor is always on private mode. Am I missing something? Are you somehow able to make uBO work? If yes, I would love to know how.
Thank you!
Edit: Do you mind sharing which search engine you use? Do you have your own searx instance?

yes, then in this context, most Xiaomi devices cannot be relocked. And a Pixel is a good suggetsion.

I don't know if you missed the notification/forgot to reply, so this is just a ping. If you didn't want to reply, then I am sorry to disturb.
Thank you!
Things like per app network control or per connection data control are nice to have and are better implemented on device than a network/router based firewall.

This is a bug iirc, you can add it just tricky, don't remember how and latest version is sadly crashing due to another bug: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/fenix/-/issues/40212

DuckDuckGo and Google, I don't have a searx instance.

Question Does it worth rooting pixel 7?

I'm receiving my Google Pixel 7 tomorrow. I'm coming from Pixel 6 and before coming from a Pixel 4. The last device I rooted was Oneplus 6T and was before the pixels I've got. So, my question is, does it worth root for this device? What would be the benefits nowadays? I've got the pixel 7 from Google unlocked. Thanks in advance

To answer your question, I would say it's worth it. You can get system wide AdBlock. Some apps require it like audio mods. You can also get LSPosed and ASOPMods which will give you a bunch of tweaks on the stock rom without having to use a custom ROM, among other things, but in the end it's up to you
Thanks, for the reply. My bad about the miss understanding. The Google pay always it's patched and possibly to use? My question resides since I use it a lot

Google Pay might be disabled when you root it though.

Im rooted and I have no problem doing payments with the NFC
I think that the people that use XDA are likely to be in favor of rooting, after all they are mostly hackers anyway. I have to say I haven't rooted one of my phones in years, android has gotten so good that most of the features that rooting provided are available without rooting now.
That being said, I think you know the answer. If there is something you want on your phone that you can only get by rooting, then you should root. The Pixel series seems to be very well supported by the community.
Thank you guys for the reply. I've been far from the scene but i know what you say it's right. I'll take a look to the topics to see if I need something that worth root.
AdAway -that's why I root, and it's worth it. I hate ads and a system wide ad blocker is awesome. Also, the AOSP mods module (you can find it on XDA) helps customize a stock rooted device very well.
*But I don't use banking apps, so if you do - root may not be worth the hassle or the security risk.

If ad blocking is your main reason to root, you should look into things that can be done via dns from your router to every device in your home no software required. That being said, unlocking the bootloader on my Samsung tablet and pixel experience gsi actually made me appreciate some of the pixels ui. Root doesn't really matter like it used to for me, but in principle I should be allowed admin privilege on a device I paid for.
Thanks, pal. I'm still thinking in rooting the pixel 7. I've just got it but in my opinion has everything you need out of the box. Times are changing now.

The nice thing regarding rooting are the possible extra functions you may want to add then using modules and apps. I tested many custom ROMs for the Pixel 6 and 7, but always went back to the stock ROM. With many custom ROMs I had problems, bugs and glitches. Now rooted stock plus a custom kernel is my setup of choice.
As you may know, root can be a serious security risk if you don't know what you do or if you f* up badly getting hacked or something like that. And maybe some banking apps and stuff like that won't work with a rooted device, but there's workarounds for that maybe.
I use latest stable Magisk, AdAway to block ads and tracking via systemless hosts file, and App Ops with Sui by Rikka. With App Ops you have advanced permission settings for apps, which is good for privacy.
Using App Ops and AdAway in hosts mode would not be possible without root, and for the Kirisakura Kernel a Magisk module is needed too. Swift backup, which I use for complete backups needs root too for some features.
App Ops and Swift Backup are not FOSS sadly. I wish they were and there are people saying that they can not be trusted if they are not open source. On the other side they are very well implemented apps which just work. So I use them.

Ad blocking isn't my main reason, but thanks for the advice. I've been using AdAway for over a decade and it's a simple solution on the device side of things, and I like to keep things simple. I will look into your solution for my home Wifi network though.
But rooting allows you to add or delete features, so combined with AdAway, a custom kernel, and a few modifications on my stock pixel 7 rom - I have a device that performs better, does what I want when I want, and without obnoxious ads - regardless of the network I'm on

We are on the same page about root privilege. I just figured I'd mention there are other options available if anybody reading this actually is only rooting for ad control.

Sure, one can always stay unrooted and use the non-root mode of AdAway, use adguard DNS ( dns.adguard.com ) or personalDNSfilter e.g. ... During the last years I sometimes used adguard, atm using AdAway with root on my Pixel 7 but on my unrooted Nokia 8010 TV box I use personalDNSfilter (our GUI does not support Android TV very well, but it runs).

I definitely recommend to anybody rooted or not to look into setting up pi hole for network wide host list enforcement. I also recommend a 30 day trial on controld.com . Very versatile and I have been subscribed @4 dollars a month happily. Not trying to shill but I love what can be done with it. And it carries over to your cellular network when you aren't on wifi. Also there's nextdns and Adguard home which are great as well. Controld allows you to change you ip locale like a VPN, without being on VPN. If you do a trial you'll probably want to keep it. Word of warning

Much appreciated. And I guess that's the purpose of forums like this - public discourse and sharing of information.
Take care, homie
