Why can't I get Netflix on our phones?

Netflix/HULU/Google Play mov only play in SD (480p), any solution to get HD playback?

So, basically every streaming service I have tried only play back in SD, not HD. Is this a common issue for the S2? Is there any way to get it to work in HD?
I hate to say it but if not this might be going back to BestBuy today :/
Thanks!
Netflix works fine in HD here. Is your subscription set up for HD?

Sure am. Can you verify that HD works with this link? Should play a stream that tells you what resolution and bitrate you are actually seeing. Mine stays at 720x480, while my Nexus 7 shows 1920x1080. Bitrates are 1750 vs 5000+ respectively.

Oh, also, I am on the 8.0" WiFi US model if that matters.
Looks like I found my answer. The tablet is not on the Netflix HD list. So I guess none of them can play it.

i already brought this up in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/help/netflix-hd-tab-s2-t3274295 . I'm quite angry since the tab s2 is marketed as an ipad air 2 competitor and it doesnt support full HD streaming. If you want to find out more about the certification process just google netflix android HD DRM. The thing is, the tablet has to be certified by Netflix. I know for a fact, that the SoC, the Exynos 5433, supports widevine Level 1 DRM technology (basically the lowest is level 3 which wouldn't be enough for HD) and HDCP 1.x which also should be enough for HD streaming. Youtube support 1080p60 videos so it's definitely not a performance issue of hardware. I suspect that the unlocked bootloader is a problem for the content providers, so if Samsung was to lock the bootloader and renegotiate with Netflix or at least ask what exactly is missing for it to be certified and add that through an update. I mean we pay for a premium tablet and a premium service, we should get what we pay for. I made contact with Netflix and Samsung, they said they would look into it. Quite curious if they actually do something, i'm still hoping! If this is an issue for you, feel free to contact themselves, so this problem can be solved, though I guess it's mostly Samsung that has to do something with the next update.

I'm also only getting 480p on Netflix, but on my unrooted, KNOX-not-tripped, SM-T810, it has no trouble achieving Widevine Level 1 DRM:
Code:
2622 WVCdm D Instantiating CDM.
2622 WVCdm I CdmEngine::QueryStatus
2622 WVCdm I Level3 Library Dec 11 2014 16:13:16
2622 WVCdm W Could not read /data/mediadrm/IDM1013/ay64.dat2: No such file or directory
2622 WVCdm D OEMCrypto_Initialize Level 1 success. I will use level 1.
2622 WVCdm I L3 Terminate.
Google Play, on the other hand, is able to achieve Level 1 as well and streams HD just fine (noticeably better quality than Netflix, even with Google's way-too-high compression). Maybe HD is being blocked on Netflix's side? They've blocked "unsupported" devices based on the device name in the past.
This device is more than able to run HD video on netflix and hulu. However I ran across an issue where I had to delete the following file for hulu to work at all. Worth a try for those of you who are rooted. Just make a backup first.
I deleted this file and hulu works.

How to out Mobile HDR?

So I finally got my Note 7 and it's awesome so far.
One of the biggest feature they were showing was Mobile HDR games and videos.
Games with Vulkan input have HDR. BUT haven't found any.
Netflix and Amazon Prime said they're going to have available HDR movies and shows. BUT also haven't found any. ( Netflix shows HD and not even UHD. I do have the highest subscription plan. Amazon Prime only shows HD.)
Lastly I even downloaded some HDR 4K movie trailers and they don't work. (They do play, but colors are inaccurate because HDR isn't working.)
Any of you guys have successfully tried HDR?
Try some video listed here:http://www.phonearena.com/news/Where-and-how-to-watch-HDR-content-on-the-Note-7_id84205
Check out Mad Dogs through the Amazon video app

Netflix apk

Can someone get the Netflix apk from the note 8 for Netflix? You probably have to get it from the samsung store if it isn't pre-installed. It would be nice to see if it works in HDR on the S8 and tab 3.
Thanks

It uses the normal apk from the play store.
If you also didn't know you have to have the 4k streaming subscription to get hdr which I believe is 12$

[DRM] Widevine L1

I think we got Widevine L1 via OTA update (176). DRMInfo seems to confirm this. Can anyone else confirm this? Try Netflix, Prime or whatever.
I'm on
176, tried netflix but every time I try to log in it just goes back to mainpage.
Netflix ist working for me (EMUI 11) but still L3
L3 on 176 for me on netflix im afraid
Might be their "supported devices nonsense". I've tried YouTube purchased movie playback. Before 176 I had 480p max. Now it plays at 1080p. I think It's working.
L1 Here on. 176

I got YouTube Vanced with microG. No GMS. I know from the res options from the top-right menu. Prior to 176 I had 480p as the best option. Now it goes up to 1080p. I tested this exact movie because I've purchased it through youtube and it has DRM. Never had any issues with resolution on public videos. Just on protected content. Regarding Netflix: I think it's from their app. They have device list. If the device is not there the app streams SD, like on an L3 device. That's what I figured this evening after chatting with one of their support agents.

I think you'll catch up when the new beta or official 11 comes out. The changelog for 10.1.0.176 was just security update, but we got L1 cert with it.
L1, EMUI 11 beta
For me still L3
Can anyone think why some devices are showing L1 on Netflix and others L3?
install netflix from aurora store and it will work

Yep I've read that the other day, I think I misread the op, thought he said he was getting hd on Netflix but I think he meant hd on YouTube DRM stuff.
