Autofocus not working anymore - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Questions & Answers

So here is the problem: when replacing the screen i lost the rubber/silicon/whatever it is gasket around the camera, now my phone can't autofocus anymore. I did not find the replacement part nor looking for the battery cover or the camera replacement itself. What can i do? What is the purpose of that gasket? I'm fine with ghetto repairs as long as it works.
Thanks for your help, sorry for my english.

Proximity Sensor issue after screen change

So after 1 month I cracked the screen on the G4.
I replaced the screen which was super easy luckily. Now having an issue with the screen re-locking when in low light. Also double tap to wake doesn't work however, double tap to sleep works.
Also, when you hit dial on a call or answer a call the screen automatically goes black and you cannot wake until someone hangs up.
Ive searched and seen the issue some people have tried apps to fix this but ive tried everything without success. What gives? When running a phone sensor app, the proximity always reads "Near."
Any Ideas???!!!

I put a glass screen protector on which covered the proximity sensor and I got the same issues. I'm just waiting for something to get rid of the proximity sensor altogether.

I just received my yootech screen protector and that solved all my issues. The sensor on these things are really sensitive.

I may have the answer for you hopefully you didn't trash the original screen.
I was having the same issue as you so I went back and throughly examined the original front assembly and found that there is a rubber spacer with two small holes in it that sits down in the hole where the proximity sensor goes. This rubber piece was not on the OEM replacement screen assembly that I had purchased. After pulling this piece out of the original screen and putting it in my new replacement screen the problem stopped. Phone now works like new again!!! Hopefully this solves your problem also.
Thanks a ton!!!!!

It worked. This little sucker made the prox sensor to be as 'near' all the time. so calls or knock code were not working.
Rechecked the original frame and removed the prox assembly you mentioned, two other rubber fillers and the ear piece grill.
Worked like a charm.
Thanks a ton. Have attached a pic for users still looking for a solution.

Dude you are the man! I also replaced my own screen (was almost too easy) but missed this little rubber piece. I scoured the internet and tried everything else, but this ACTUALLY fixed it. Thanks a million!!!
To everyone else still having screen issues: it is a known problem and apparently there are several solutions out there. Most likely you need to do one or more of the following: get your finger off the sensor, re-calibrate it (type 277634#*# in phone dialer. Note: I actually did not have this specific calibration setting on my g4, but others do), software update (probably not), hard reset your phone, or replace your proximity sensor (download one of the apps out there first and run a test).
If non of that works you probably need a new phone XD
Update: You will need the 2 other rubber pieces (mentioned above) for your microphones, otherwise everyone will complain about how you sound on the other end.
You sir are a legend !
This work perfect for me. This should be made a top post as it has just saved me countless time and money.
Hope you have a merry Xmas
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
So tired of trying to figure out 'how to ask' the right question for this issue! Came across this thread and fortunately DID NOT throw out the old screen/digitizer after I replaced with OEM new unit but there were NO instructions regarding this little rubber piece! Couldn't upload the picture but it's EXACTLY like your pic! Thanks again for sharing! I'm fixed!!!

Try Etradesupply, I bought from them before, part came in good quality though it cost higher than ebay and Amazon, no complaints. http://www.etradesupply.com/lg-g4-vs986-lcd-assembly-with-frame-no-small-parts-black.html

I just replacement my screen from fixez.com,
very important make sure you save the rubber from the proximity sensor and install it on the new display
I kinda threw my old screen away... Anyone knows if I can find a new little rubber piece (whatever it is) and if so, where? Thanks a lot!

Thanks your for your post - Saved my G4 after replacing my cracked LCD at repair shop that failed to transfer that little rubber piece.

For those who lost the rubber
hello guys. I have the H818P LG G4 model and when buying the screen I thought I must buy a dual-sim compatible frame (but now I think that even other screen models work. I didn't notice any difference when I disassembled the phone - but never tried). long story short, I had to send my phone to Iraq to find a compatible screen replacement and I received it back without the little rubber, with all the problems above. I had to improvise until I get my old frame back.
I tried all the apps but none of them worked. Your phone needs to be rooted to disable the proximity sensor, which is extremely risky on LG G4 (and especially on my model) as they don't get proper focus. you also need to downgrade to lollipop if you upgraded your android version to marshmallow. it is quiet complicated.
I read a solution suggesting to put a little piece of foil paper in front of the sensor to reflect the light back to it. It's easier and surprisingly less risky than messing with the software. I'm going to disassemble my phone and try it now.
update: the role of the aluminium foil is not to reflect light, but to obstruct it. the sensor is composed of two compounds: infrared emitter and light detector. the infrared shouldn't reach the light detector if you want the proximity sensor to remain off. After a couple of tries, I used a small piece of duct tape to cover them both. Works fine. side effect: automatic luminosity thinks it's always dark. I didn't bother dissembling my phone again to uncover the light sensor as I don't use automatic luminosity that much and that I'm going to get the rubber within two weeks.
This works. Perfect solution. Had the same problem after a screen replacement
Awesome!

Glad it helped. Enjoy.
I got rid of my G4 after that bootloop auto shut off issue and bought a N6P.
Just restored G4 yesterday with the new method turning off the big cores. Its one of the best phones i had, wish i could get the motherboard fixed under warranty..
Unfortunately i moved out of USA so can't do that anymore.
Thanks a Million!!!! Mhozlock's fix and sud_ran's pictures saved my day! Thought I had somehow ****ed up my girl's phone's proximity sensor when I replaced the screen! Thanks!

Thank you! This must be the problem. I'm guessing that's why the phone speaker has gone super quiet too – I must have lost the gasket for that as well. Wish these gaskets were mentioned in the tear down video I followed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iS02J12I1MU), or that I'd been careful enough to notice the damn things. Unfortunately, I chucked the old frame last week so I can't cannibalize it now
If you end up in my situation there seems to be three options:
1) Buy a broken spares-or-repairs G4 on Ebay and cannibalize it. There are a few out there but they tend to be kinda pricey (£40+) for a broken phone
2) Buy a spare part. The G4 prox sensor gasket number is MBL66397801. Some parts retailers list it but none have it in stock currently (Sep 2016)
3) Try making your own by poking holes in a bit of tape: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzbznNb-aXM I'm gonna give this a go tonight... wish me luck!

Rear camera turn black when use it

Whenever I try to use the rear camera the display turns black while only showing the HUD. The HUD works fine, but the camera doesn't work at all. Nothing is blocking it either.
When switching camera modes (to manual mode for example), an error pops up saying that the "camera is not available"
IMPORTANT NOTE: The front facing camera is working perfectly fine.
Things I tried to do (aside from shipping it for repair):
1. Android repair via the PC companion software
2. Internal reset
3. Safe mode
4. Clearing cache files for the built-in camera app
5. Installing an alternative camera app (the built-in one was disabled)
6. downgrade and upgrade
7.change camera for new one (tested)
I had same situation with regular Z3. Someone brings it to service where I'm working and my first think was camera fault but changing camera didn't fix it. Near camera connection You can see some small capacitors, we call it filters. It looks like capacitors but it's soldered not only on opposite sides but 2 points on both sides. In regular Z3 there was 5 elements like this to change and after that camera starts working. I don't remember how exactly it's made in Z3c but it's really possible that it's the same issue and same way to fix it.
One more thing, if You can check one one more camera to exclude camera itself cause most issues like this are caused by faulty camera. I had many phones (most Z1 and Z1c) with this issue and changing camera always was the solution.
Good luck.
Same Here. Need help too.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
I have three cameras and two z3c, I interchange camera and phone and always the same result
At this moment I don't have any Z3c to disassembly (except mu own but under warranty) to check where those capacitors are but if You could take a picture of camera connector on motherboard and near area I can mark which one should change.
@Chamelleon
Main camera not working
I have the same issue with my Z3 compact. The issue started happening on the 11th month of my one year warranty, I sent it for repair (14 business days y + shipping time back and forth). It came back with the same issue. Sent it back right away. After another three weeks without my phone, I got it back. Guess what? EXACT SAME ISSUE!
I called their support line explaining what happened, the guy told me that there is nothing they can do about it since my warranty expired. Of course they didn't have in consideration that I sent my phone before it expired and it took about seven weeks back and forth. There wasn't any sort of damage on my phone, was never dropped or damaged in any way, I never submerged it even if in theory, that would be ok. The report said "it has reviewed the functioning of the unit, unfortunately the defect is in the PCB so it is not able to undergo repairs to it."
The guy on the phone told me what he thought the report meant. It means there is damage on the main board(not caused by me) and the one year warranty manufacturer warranty department won't repair it. Maybe, if I had bought the 2 year "extended" warranty, they could do something about it. I asked if the issue is that my one year warranty was expired or if it is something that they just don't fix unless you get the "extended" warranty. He couldn't answer me and the only thing he said was "is there anything else I can help you with?"
From what I understood, there are two completely different departments, the one year manufacturer warranty that only cover some things. Not even sure what, because if it's broken screen, water damage or any physical abuse, they won't fix it. If it's a problem with the main board or PCB, they won't fix it either. It is a mystery to me what gets fixed in that department. The other department is the 2 year extended warranty. I'm not sure what they are willing to fix there, but from what they guy on the phone told me, it's more than the one year regular warranty.
Long story short, after two trips to FedEx, at least 8 hours total on phone calls, more than 7 weeks without my phone, I ended where I started. Sorry Sony, never again. Worst customer support I have ever experienced.
At this photo I can see only 4 of this capacitors and marked it, maybe it should be four or one I missed cause quality. Anyway regular Z3 has 5 like this and after changing all 5 camera start working again. You can desolder it from most Sony phones, I used capacitors from MK16 (Xperia Pro). So find some Sony board with capacitors like this and ask someone with good hot air solder station (if You don't have one) to change it.
Any news to this problem? I bought used Z3C with black rear camera problem because it was cheap. (Yes, the front facing camera is working perfectly fine). So far I have only tried software fixes and obviously they didn't help. I ordered new camera module from ebay and I'm now waiting for it. Has anyone tried soldering new capacitors if the new camera module doesn't help?
EDIT: Here is another thead with same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/help/rear-camera-hardware-detected-black-t3231509
As I said I've done it only in regular Z3 but If You gonna try give me some info is this solution is also working in Z3c case.

I'm still waiting for new camera module. If the new module is not working I will try soldering new capacitors. I will keep you up to date here .
Any news??
Completely forgot to post this, hope it help someone. I made the same thing with black camera on my Z3c. After I broke audio port in my Z3c and had to send it to warranty I took my gf phone, Z3c also. I restored my TWRP backup to her phone and all except camera was working. Camera was completely black but only main, front was OK. After that I was afraid that it's another hardware problem like Yours but after reflashing to stock problem gone. I repeated it few times to check if I'm right and I was. After flashing backup from another phone even without TA and Kernel backup there is a problem with camera.
So I was wrong saying it's only hardware problem. If anyone still has this issue and didn't reflashed his phone check it first.
@Chamelleon yes it's somehow a software problem (if we could say that ). For me i did fix it.
I did a Nandroid backup for my black Z3 compact (camera works properly) an restored it on my new White Z3 compact (also camera woks fine). after restoring the white z3c rear camera shows black screen, the front one is good.
=> i did a format factory reset : didn't work.
=> flashed a TFT file : didn't work.
=> flashed a D5803_23.4.A.1.232_Customized FR.ftf : IT WORKS !
and then i remembered that my phone was from "SFR" , a french network provider.
i hope this helps also
Edit: too new account, would be nice if a mod unlocks the posting of the direct image links and fixes the links - I think they are useful as this is a common problem and i already invested hours translating russian and documenting my research nobody else should have to do it
for me it was a hardware problem after dropping it.. I even changed the camera module.
Did some reseach, russian sites have some input:
Layout1: directupload.net/file/d/4472/9andayji_jpg.htm
Layout2: directupload.net/file/d/4472/vzvgbqqo_jpg.htm
It was loose, but when i tried to push it down with a hot metal to "solder" it, at some point it jumped away and was lost because it is so tiny!
Missing part: directupload.net/file/d/4472/qmut35qt_jpg.htm
The russian site suggest this soldering of bridges, however its not clear to me if they mean one of this electronic pieces (4pins each) or also the lower one.
Russian: directupload.net/file/d/4472/ag43kmda_jpg.htm
The question is now how these (likely) filters (because so close to the camera have to be bridges, it seemed to have worked for some russians:
Pins: directupload.net/file/d/4472/k86j53hr_png.htm
Not sure if there are 4 indipendend pins or if for those small footprints of electronic devices they use only the edges and then they have the same signal.
I was not able to see any text written on those two things, however i didnt have any magnifying glass.

So I changed my camera because I thought it was a hardware failure (tried every other method before: going back to stock, wiping camera files etc.) and it STILL is black. Did you have any success with your camera?

Me not (also changed the HW cam), the guys on the russian site yes (even with other similar sony).
Just check if there is something loose, maybe you are lucky and its a software problem *fingers crossed*. To me it happend exactly after dropping (and changing the screen which went without problems) so I was quite sure its HW based.

Hi basmok,
First off thanks for the research and for the pictures!
I have a similar story, phone was dropped, rear camera won't work, tried different ROMs without any luck then took phone apart and saw that one of the four tiny capacitors
just fell off and now it's MIA...
The last pic from your post (directupload.net/file/d/4472/k86j53hr_png.htm) which I assume shows the soldering of the bridge doesn't seem to work...
Do you still have that pic?
Also did you make any progress on the camera fix or gave up?
Thanks,
Ati

You were lucky, they were already in the recycle bin and deleted on the camera. Best I could do picturewise, i dont have a macro lens. Here we go, added all to imgurl so hopefully they survive longer: http://imgur.com/a/Of1DY
And no, didnt make any progress as i dont know what component they are. Normally all components have lasered some code but not sure if its just too tiny for my eyes or if they dont have it. I was a bit unlucky as i didnt have a soldering tool, so i tried it by pushing the pin down with a paperclip which i headed with a lighter --- well it jumped away and was not the best approach

Phone burst into flames during repair, need advice with new parts.

So, the screen on my Note 4X broke, and I wanted to replace it. Long story short, the battery is glued down hard as **** and I managed to damage it, and it burst into flames. I'm fine, I was prepared, nothing but the phone suffered any damage.
But now I'm sitting here, with a phone that's basically still fine minus the frame and the battery, and I still want to repair it.
I'm faced with two questions, first of all, I managed to find (I think) every part I need, but one eludes me. I don't even know what it's for. You can see it here (minute 9:11-9:27):
https://youtu.be/MQazwoEssN0?t=556
It says "C6_LEDFPC_V1.0" on mine. Google tells me nothing about that, and it's not a part I have seen on the repair shop sites. It doesn't even seem to be present on complete frame+display assemblies like this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LCD...edmi-Note-4X-hongmi-Red-Rise/32810566637.html
And apart from that, I wonder if I missed any part.
I still have:
A new display+digitizer, the back cover, the mainboard with the SoC and the two cameras, the PCB with the charging board, the battery cable, the sim tray, the fingerprint reader, the loudspeaker.
I need:
A new frame, an earpiece, the mainboard flex cable, the side key flex cable, a battery, and the one mysterious piece.
Is that everything? Does everyone has a basic list of all the parts?

I've been thinking that in the video, the guy switched on the phone without that part. so that part shouldn't be a very major component. In my opinion, it can be some sort of sensor. I personally feel its a magnet screen sensor for covers with smart wake up function.
The reason I say this is because when i touch a small magnet on the entire front panel, It gets stuck on that same point.
However I am not very sure as the smart wake is not triggered. Maybe it is because I am on LineageOS.
Hope It turns out helpful.
You will probably need the vibrator motor too, its quite small and easy to lose as I've found.
one like this:

That part is the LED for the capacitive buttons. Not important at all if you cant find it

Camera problem

Hi guys, i've been using P10 for 4 months, everything was fine until today, today my back camera become blurry, when im taking pics black and white its all good, but normal pictures become blurry. Did somebody had that problem?
Assume you have given the lenses a wipe? Could be the colour shooter has grime or scratch or something on it?
Yeah i wiped them, funny thing is that one for black and white has scratch, and this one is fine, there is nothing on it, yesterday it worked just fine.
Exactly the same problem here!.
No scratches on the lens either.
I ordered a replacement lent assembly and fitted it. = Same problem.
Tried deleting cache for camera and hard rebooting/resetting phone to factory = Same problem.
It definitely isn't the outer lens as i stripped the phone(removed outer back lens) and the camera is blurry in colour mode still.
Very very rarely it starts working again briefly, but will go blurry again quickly. It is frustrating. I have fitted 2 lens's thinking the first must be faulty. The costs are adding up.
I have just rooted my phone, now i need to work out how to flash it! I hope flashing will solve it. If not its going to be a main motherboard issue i suspect.
Same problem here for months. I replaced two cameras already... Any news on this from someone? Maybe a software problem? I didn't update for months, because I was too lazy to manage rooting again.

Main camera replacement problem

Hello, i have following problem with P10 camera:
Model VTR-L29, Firmware VTR-L29C10B120.
The focus in the main camera ceased to work. There was no way for me to apply the guarantee, so I have disassembled the phone and tried out three new replacement cameras from Ebay (Index Sunny B1730 and Sunny B1737). All do not work: the camera App immediately closes, other photo apps says that the camera is not found or is busy, AIDA64 does not find the camera too. Factory reset and cache delete has already been done several times. Several times I tried the original camera again and it worked (except the focus), but after I tried B1737 it stopped to work and now shows the same symptoms. Before the original camera stopped to work the camera App worked even without a camera and showed a gray screen, now it also turns off immediately. Maybe someone has an advise for me, thanks and sorry for my bad English.
hello;

i tray this it work 100/100
please share with others personne hou have the same problem
Another user had the same problem with the focus on his phone after he dropped it. He fixed it very simple.
Pick a place in your house where you have carpet on your floor. Now put the phone on the floor standing on the usb-connector. Push the phone over so it falls on it's back. Use you finger to keep it from bouncing back.
He said the focus worked after this procedure.
Good luck!
It's really works. Thank you. But this is just a temporary solution. I wonder if we replace with the original part (at authorized service centre) it will guarantee the problem will not occuring again?

I had the same problem a month back after my phone fallen on the floor from my pocket. The camera could not focus and blurry picture quality. I tried everything I found in YouTube or any other forums but all are temporary solutions.
I then contacted Huawei Customer care and they changed the camera and delivered the phone same day. My phone was in under warranty period.
Its fixed now and working fine.
I think you need to send the phone to Huawei Customer care
