Downgrade from Pie to Oreo - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

I've installed Havoc OS 2 on my Mi A2 and it's pretty awesome. But I want to downgrade to an Oreo ROM, preferably something with microg built in.
I use my phone as a hotspot and run a sync server on my PC for files, photos and contacts.
On Pie and Android 10, the gateway IP for the hotspot is randomized, so my phone doesn't connect to my PC, and I need to connect it via a hotspot on another phone that's running Android 7 to get my files to sync.
Is it possible to move to Oreo? Are there any steps I need to follow to make sure that I don't brick my phone?

There aren't many custom Oreo roms but there are a few . If you are using "jasmine" Android 1 and not "Wayne" device you can downgraded without much risk
You might corrupt your persist but you can download a persist restore zip ( many floating around ) if it does happen
fastboot getvar anti
Use that to check you haven't triggered ARB anti rollback if you are on "Wayne"
FYI AFAIK you can toggle the IP to static ...in the advanced options ..in Android 10 you should be using the new feature called WiFi direct to transfer stuff or make connects ..or try something like MIXPLORER and SAMBA plugin and move or copy stuff manually ...

Settings doesn't control WiFi

Suddenly, I am not able to activate WiFi using Settings. It just hangs for a while and then tells me that Settings isn't working.. If I power off and then on, everything works OK.
Can I fix this?
Thanks.
Is this on original OxygenOS ROM? Sounds like your wifi driver crashed and burned, probably caused by something wrong in the driver or the userspace.
All you can do is make sure your system is updated, and if that doesn't help, do a factory restore and hope for the best.
I have unbricked a op3T 128gb today and i'm having the same issue. i bought the phone bricked and i have no info about the history of it. after the unbrick process i have oxygenos 3.5.1 android 6.0.1 on it. Kernel is 3.18.20-pref+
if i think about it someone might updated it and now it needs the modem updating or something? how can i update everything to latest oxygenOS trough Abd or without any wifi?
Wifi mac address is 02:00:00:00:00:00 hmmm....

You can always download the latest full OOS zip to the root of the internal storage, rename it to update.zip and the just enter normal recovery using volume up and power to let it install.

Wifi connected but does not work at all

I have a nokia 7 plus and its wifi is not working at all from the start. As I turned on the phone and it asked me to download update at start and I connected to a wifi network. Then the downloading dialogue started and it never downloaded the update.
all other devices with that wifi work fine except my nokia 7 plus. Also it does connects with all networks but does not download any thing.
Please help.
Update: For those who have faced the same issue there are two solutions,
1. Try to download the latest update via mobile/sim data connection. Although it may he costly but is the only option I have found working wirelessly (as my data plan allowed me to do so). After the latest OTA installation i.e. Android 8.1.0 the WiFi will work like a charm (as in my case).
2. If you dont want to do it as first method, go to www.android.com/beta abd from there find your device i.e. Nokia 7 plus abd it will redirect to Nokia's website. Register your device for Abdroid P beta by providing sign up details. Now don't download the Android P beta and instead go for mannual rollback option as from there you will be avle to download latest stable build i.e. Android 8.1.0.
After downloading please follow the steps described in installing Android P beta on the Nokia website (same page).
After installation wifi will work fine and there will not be any issue.
I got 8.1.0 OTA update but Wifi connectivity is still a mess

Having hotspot tethering issue after upgrade to Pie

Hi everyone,
I was successful update OTA of Pie on my XZ2. I have a problem to connect hotspot tethering from my XZ2 to laptop.
Technically, it's show that my XZ2 is connected to laptop but "no internet"
I have try a reset password, reboot both phone and laptop but it is no luck.
Have any members here are having this problem like me? Please help to advise.
With regards,
imkr
I have same hotspot difficulty with pie. Devices connect to hotspot but receive no internet - and there seems to be no answers
Weird.
It works at my site.
Bluetooth and USB tethering.
H8296 rev2
German h8266 firmware.
Full wipe and flash with newflasher.
Using Linux Mint Cinnamon x64 19.0 on a ThinkPad T460P.
Usb3.0 & Bluetooth 4.1
weird and annoying.
usb tethering the same. Connects but wont give access with any device I care to try (other androids, laptop pc, desktop pc, linux, windows...)
My device - Syberia ROM on redmi note 4X (mido) - tried 2 other pie based roms with the same outcome.
I've had to revert to miui 10 beta as I need a hotspot...

WORK-AROUND : Managed to Wi-Fi tether using AdGuard VPN (which isn't really a VPN) and VPN Hotspot app - Both from xda. The data is coming through, YAY! now I can keep Syberia!
I think I've been lucky, I have a UK customised Rev3 H8216 and have hand none of these issues.
However I did get the banding on my screen ( after Pie update), I powered off my phone over night and it's not appeared since.
My point is that no matter rev version you have, There's a problem somewhere in the XZ2
Guys,
I could access internet via tethering hotspot by now.
I changed device name, new password and paired with my laptop. Then, rebooted again and again.
I am not sure if this few settings worked. It's work in my case in Cambodia.
Cheers,
MKR

Xiaomi Mi 8 loses WiFi

Hi xda, I don't even know if this is the correct section.
I'm experiencing a problem with my Mi 8 in these days I've never had, my phone sometimes disconnects from WiFi and then he has difficulty reconnecting. The WiFi signal keeps staying on "obtaining IP address" and repeats again, so I have to switch to mobile data until my WiFi comes back. I'm on MIUI Global 11.0.3 Stable (QEAMIXM).
I tried to:
- restart the phone;
- reset the network settings;
- restarting the router-modem;
But the problem still remains.
I read that it may be that the modem router does not support the dynamic IP or MAC address of the new version of Android, but I'm not an expert.
If someone is facing the same problem or knows how to solve it I really appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance
I've been having the same problem.
Randomly disconnecting from Wifi and my network service.
Since the auto-update push to the latest version the problem has gotten worse. It occurs even more frequently and often doesn't connect to any network services.
I've tried removing the Sim cards, changing slots, only having in one at a time.

If you have always been on stock
Change the setting so that the phone uses its actual Mac address and not randomized
If you have used many different roms,
You may need to flash the fastboot version of the latest stable rom ( for your device : Global or Chinese) it restore your persist partition, and all other partitions.
resetting will not fix this issue and neither will flashing a recovery rom. it has to be a fastboot rom.
Do not flash it unless your device is linked to your own personal Mi Cloud account, and the built in flashall batch command completely wipe your device. be sure to un select relock bootloader if using Mi-Flash.
Never flash any persist images that you may find on XDA threads.
Some of those posts include links to personal recovery persist backups . Those backed up images are hardware linked to individual devices, and flashing one of those files will cause permanent issues..

I have always been with the Global stable rom. Where do I change the MAC address?

I am not currently using a Miui rom, because I wanted to test that my battery is truly going bad ( It is) So I will have to give you the approximate location. If I am remembering correctly it's in network settings > advanced options > privacy
If you dont see it, download the app called Hidden Settings for MIUI and you should be able to change it to use the actual Mac address.

Please look at this community where I have been posting doing some debugs on what were happening with Xiaomi Mi8 with Android 10.
https://community.cisco.com/t5/wire...onnecting-android-10-to-cisco-me/td-p/4009289
It looks like Xiaomi has deprecated WPA2 in some cases, but not in others. In my case, using Cisco APs I cannot connect until I configure native WPA3 (not even transition mode).
Same seems to happen to Nokia devices.
Weird behavior when you see you can connect to other APs using WPA2, but after doing some debugs with ADB I realized the phone wasn't sending association to AP, so it is not AP vendor fault.
And the thing I hate the most, is trying to open a TAC case with Xiaomi. They do not attend any expert issue but only low-level issues the type of factory-reset your phone and try again. I starting to hate this kind of support. They don't care about their products nor the users.

It's not only about Xiaomi, but all the other brands. It's always impossible to reach to a person with technical knowledge, no matter what device or what tech support you contact with.
I actually don't expect any bug fixes from Xiaomi, since they didn't even care about Widevine L1 certificate while Pocophone F1 users received it.

Miui 12 ROM S8/N8 ANBro10

I was wondering if one of you beautiful coders can point me in the right direction.
So i manged to get it booted running, making phone calls, updating fine. However, I can't connect toany wifi network, it just saves it without attempting to make a connection and mobile data only works when plugged in usb tethering, im assuming thats because it triggers a service and assigns itself an ip address, as soon as i disconnect usb cable it drops data.
So im on a sm-n950f greatlte Exynos
I have a tiny crack on the corner of my screen every other rom ive tried doesnt wake up the screen cause of it, this is the only rom that i can unlock/wake my screen up like normal.
With bootloader unlocked and twrp already installed
i patched Treble project convert dot zip via TWRP 3.7
Then flashed twrp 3.3 Reboot back into TWRP
Flashed no verify (Some reason it won't install on later twrp)
Flashed RevOSLavender's Miui 12GSI Rom (Tried flashing it with 3.7, got boot loop)
Then installed treble's vendor dot zip
Then flashed RevOSLavender again, some reason theres 2 system image partition, sometimes, really depends which twrp i used to flash the convert zip, so i flashed it again because this time it gave the option to flash both partition.
Rebooted into Miui, took about 10mins the first time
Project Treble V5 - Google Drive
drive.google.com
Link to files mentioned
Credit goes to the owner, i played no part doing anything
Update, not sure what I did, but I clicked on some random file while browsing in root explorer and it executed/extracted a bunch of random things which knocked out my root access but got WiFi working, just need to figure out the mobile data portion if anyone has a clue,
I'm on a sm-n950f greatlte Exynos
Ok I got the mobile data working, I think I've figured it out. I signed into the Xiaomi account from my mi note 10 which for some reason can't make outgoing calls. So while flashing and running random scripts, I some how got xiaomi's provisioning frameworks script to work? Because it just keeps on trying to sync data, only problem now is to get the complete miui experience it needs a 2 step SMS verification to keep get their awesome skins, themes, and other settings. Yeh cause it was trying to sync with my old fone, it sent me all the hidden apps and services it normally configures after flashing/resetting
ok so this is what happens when it tries to activate your simcard / services. But you have an invalid device id /IMEI
