Mi 8 test point not working - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

I got the back off my phone, disconnected the battery, paid someone to fix it remotely, connected by USD, shorted the test point pads and nothing. EDL won't activate however many times I try and for however long I short the pads. Is there anything else I can try or anything I might be doing wrong? The wire I'm shorting with is definitely conductive.

Need Help, Broken USB port

I Unplugged and ran my XT1053 all day as usual. Went to plug it in for the night and found that the ground pin was folded over.
I immediately started trying to backup photos to google, but the phone died not long thereafter. I did a minimal teardown and the USB port on these appears to be beyond my soldering skills.
What I would Like to do: charge the phone from another point on the board that doesn't require removing the MOBO from the frame. I'm curious about the connection for the battery. Does anyone have details on the pinout for the battery connector? I don't intend to try and score a full, unregulated charge from this, but enough to try and maybe do a backup before I send it to moto for repair. Even then, i'm not sure it's worth the $100ish fee they charge for a phone this old.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It hit me that I was over thinking this. Sorry for the Thread. Laying the phone face down, charging port nearest you, the farthest left battery ribbon contact is Positive, the farthest right is negative. After a quick check with a DVOM and inserting some needles for alligator clips to connect to, I'm charging as I type.

Note 5 abruptly stopped charging, wireless works

As with other similar posts, I seem to be having USB issues. Neither charging cables nor OTG show any signs of functionality. Wireless charging, however, does seem to be working but I must keep my phone out of its case. Just like the others, I saw a few persistent popups from Samsung VR to take a little tour, and twice I went back to what I was doing. Hadnt seen it since, then all of a sudden while connected to a normal note 3 charger, it began to rapidly switch between charging and disconnected. Unprovoked of course, and when I went to inspect and reinsert the cable, it began again after 2 or 3 minutes. I unplugged it, promptly tested with the original charger and had no luck. Then on to many more cables and charging bricks, laptop ports and such.. no action. Tried OTG flash drive, nothing. Last ditch effort, tried wireless charging with the phone off and its working. Has any headway been made in this issue? It seems software related, and at the very least carriers could acknowledge it if so. I am not under warranty, and this is an incredible loss for me as it effectively neuters my cell phone. I need to charge while out and about to run my business and wireless isnt very portable... Please help XDA
I have isolated the problem to a software issue undoubtedly... Correct me if im wrong. The wireless charging is interrupted when a cable is plugged into the usb port, indicating that it is not faulty and the phone recognizes the hardware. At least according to my personal logic.
EDIT : The Induction charging appears to be on its way out as well. Only working intermittently, and rarely at that. I fear the worst brick possible (one not caused my my own tampering)
Desperate bump plus a bonus question: what would you consider a fair price to pay for USB port repair? Considering giving that a try, maybe I have bad solder or something. I don't have UV glue and all that other necessary stuff to check it out myself.
So, I think I have a the same issue. I had Note 5 (DUO) which was 8 months old and it just suddenly stopped charging. It charged via USB only if the phone was turned off. However, it seems that it charged wireless. Because i was traveling, in the pinch, business meetings etc, could not waste time figuring out the issue and purchased another Note5(DUO), in August. Well, just today, it developed the same simptom as the previous one: it stopped charging via USB when the phone is on, it only charges when the phone is off! I see that there are no replies to the OP message, but adding my issue here in hope that there will be some response....

P9 died??

Huawey P9 3gb 32GB single sim.
My wife accidentally let 10/20 seconds in water (swimming pool).
It was on once left out of the water, as my wife hasnt Knowledge about it doesnt consider to power off inmediatelly.
Device powered off itself.
I dont Know if powered off caused for water ingress os simply battery drained.
Now device :
Dont let me fastboot
Dont show anything on screen even when chargind and of course it does not power on.
So seems a totally brick.
As I am reparing everyday automotive electronics (my job) I decided to open it, removed battery and inspect.
I cant believe I cant see almost nothing.
I mean no water, no rusted component, no corroded area....
But I decided to clean carefully every pcb, connector with alcohol isopropylic.
As I said it looks pretty well but I tried.
Phone keeps died
Is there any chance my problem is software?
I mean if device powered off suddenly it could corrupt?
But How can I recover device without having even fastboot...
To be honest I am ver dissapointed, ive seen many times pcbs with lot of rust cause of water ingress and simply cleaning and resoldering works.
Mine seems almost perfect but is totally dead/brick and doesnt Know really the way to go
In my Job Automotive electronics Ive many schemes testing points etc that allows me to search problem but there are no this info for our device , really?
NOTE: Ive not tested with other battery I am trying to find one to test.
Any help will be appreciated.Hello I need help from people same experience
8Boot to Fastboot:
Connect to PC, press in parallel Vol- & Pow.
You said it doesnt boot.
Boot to EMUI Recovery (or TWRP):
Not on USB, Vol+ & Pow
Boot to eRecovery:
Connect by USB to charger, Vol+ & Pow
If it doesn't boot any way, and doesn't show anything when connected by USB to charger, and if PC does not recognize as USB device when connected - then it is dead.
In Cases of software malfunction it would boot some way (at least to Fastboot) and/or will show something on the screen
But if there was no rust or visible damage, maybe it has wet detector - try by giving to the service shop (guarantee void but maybe they can repair for relatively cheap)
Yes its dead omg... Water killed it. What more do you want to know? you cant rescue it.
Ok to your answer but I keep thinking it has solution.
Ive compared voltage in battery a couple hours with charger connected.
It is charging, very litlle but it does.
And I cant believe with so little water mobile dead....as Ive said I see many pcbs literally whole corroded with mobile powering.
If you see picture of PCB seems impossible than device were dead.
I think could be a battery problem?
How can I warranty buttons are working???
And what about the mini pcb down where usb is connected???? If it is bad how then it will go to fastboot...Usb connection will be useless
Even when big pcb is the problem it could be reparaible or at least testable.
But I do not have this info, I mean testpoints, check the feeds etccc
I tested all marked 0 resistors and seems ok.
In fact easy question is DEAD.
But I want to keep fighting, these are my life rules and I want to keep trying at least testing to Know what is the problem.
If finally MAIN PCB is dead (MOST POSSIBLE)I will consider to buy one PCB/or PCB donor from a scartched unit.
As I said due to my Job I have tools enougth to check electronics and at least Knowing whats the matter.
Never surrender :good:
I dont think its the battery problem. More like motherboard.

Disable Moisture Sensor

My Note 8 is detecting false positives for the moisture sensor. The past two weeks I was forced to using wireless charging since there is a pop up saying there is moisture in my charger port. Whenever I plug in the charger it won't charge. I have reset the phone, blow dried the port, basically done everything I could but its still "detecting moisture" in the charger.
I reach out to Samsung US today to try to send my phone in for repairs and they said from my IMEI number, that my phone was made in Korea and they can't do anything to help. I bought this phone from an EBay store (not a private seller) and send them a message but I doubt they will help. Probably continue to run my head in circles by telling me to reach out to Samsung again.
The phone is only a few months old and I can't have it repaired by Samsung US, (Samsung Korea's number is not in english so I can't understand anything), the seller doesn't have any obligation to help, and my phone can't be charged without a wireless charger.
I was wondering if there was anything I can do here that would deactivate the moisture sensor or reprogram it to stay always off. I love this phone, but hate samsung for once again making another catastrophic issue without properly testing it first.

There is no way you can turn that off.. It's actually not even an option to do that because it's built right into the software.. The only thing I could suggest is to buy another charging port and use a heating gun to heat the back edges of the phone all around and then slowly pry it off.. There's tons of videos on how to do this on YouTube and the charging port is cheap.
Get used to wireless charging. Try compressed air instead of just a blow dryer. Maybe something in there? Good luck

I think I'm going to get used to an iPhone again. No problems on their flag ship devices. The note 7 blew up in your face, now the note 8 is so ANAL it won't let you charge your phone if it thinks theirs moisture in it. The warning has been on for two weeks straight after I blow dried it for an hour. Such a stupid feature that was unnecessary to begin with. If I drop my phone in water, what does it matter if the charging port may have water in it when after all that it probably won't work anyways!
Furthermore, Samsung support is very bad. I bought the phone from a reputable eBay seller because it was the only place I found an unlocked model. The official resellers only sell the bloatware infected carriers models, which I don't like. I like my smartphone experience to be closer to iPhone, the original smartphone, that doesn't have bloatware that I have to uninstall the first thing I do after I power it on.
Samsung won't cover the repair for their own problem because I bought it brand new on eBay from a cell phone store, and not from their resellers that put bloatware that I don't want.
Luckily, I played it smart and got the Square trade plan so we will see how this works out.

Mine doesn't have that problem at all. I've recorded quite a few videos under water too. That's why I say to blow it with compressed air (not too high psi) as there may be something in there.
Here is a video with a nice bass.

my phones does that when i charge it in my car and turn the key off. if i unplug it and turn the key on and plug it back in it works fine. I would first try a different charger.
So out of the blue while my Note 8 is sitting on my desk I get the Moisture Sensor Error?
I plugged it in as I'm 100% sure it's dry and restarted it. Seems to be charging but as soon as I remove the cable it comes back. Wireless works fine but WTF?
Any fix / update from anyone?

So I did a little searching and found what I hope to be a resolution to this instance but still no real "cause" as my phone has never seen extreme cold or moisture.
I plugged in my phone to charge it and restarted it. It gave no message so I let it hit 100% and left it for an hour after still plugged in. Removed the cord and now no message.
Still not sure what caused it.
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I had never seen that message before, but after I unplugged from my phone, there was something sticky/wet that had gotten on the end of the charging cable. I wiped it off but kept getting the message - had to resort to the wireless charging for a day..........the port finally dried out and no issues since.
Everytime that this happens , and I know that it's completly dry, just go to recovery mode and Wipe Cache and it works.
I don't know exactly how the sensor works, but has I have notice multiple times, when the phone drys 100% it starts some type of timer for security and only when that timer ends, the errors disappears and let my phone charge without any problem
Maybe the timer info resets when I wipe the cache? I don't know. But this only works when is really dry. (of course I tried with moisture, but the sensor detect anyway, so if theres some problem with the hardware {sensor}, this cache wipe will not resolve anything, only if it was some software bug).
I hope that can help anyone
My note 9 has the same moisture error. I didnt have a wireless charger the first time and did what you said cleared the cashe and reset the entire phone. I lost everything because it had only a little battery left. But eventually after resetting/restoring it I was able to start fresh until now. The moisture sensor is back on only about a month after I reset it. This is a serious flaw with more than one model of Samsung and they better address it asap because this is BS! I won't always be able to charge it wirelessly and why bother sending so much money on a phone that looses all your information?

Huawei P10 Stuck in Reverse Charging Mode

Hello
Since a few days, my phone wouldn't charge, it did not detect anything when connected. I have tried different cables and chargers with no result.
In the notification bar the phone was giving a message that the phone was in reverse charging mode, whilst it was not connected.
When i tried to change it to charge only it immediately changed back to reverse charging.
The only way i could charge was by turning it of or restart the phone with the charge cable connected., but After removing the cable i couldn't use it anymore, and the notification of reverse charging would appear again.
I have tried to clean the port, this would work sometimes, the notification would disappear but this was temporarily (max 1 minute, i've read that for others a longer periode).
I found a solution, i hope its not a temporarily one, but until now it alright:
I removed the USB port, disconnected and cleaned every connector en blow on them, also on the back of the USB port (black piece attached to the bord) there was this sticky glue thing (i think its glue), i cleaned that part, some piece of iron plate was bended somehow, i don't know if this was supposed to be like that but i corrected/bended it back a little. After this it started working properly. Somehow I think this problem is due to moisturized parts.
You can watch how disconnect the USB Board on youtube.
I wanted to share this with all, in the hope it will come in handy for somebody.
Huawei stuck in reverse mode fixed..
I have encountered this problem in my mate 10 pro and I think I repaired it .. You have to clean the charging port using an alcohol and a small piece of iron .. The piece of iron should touch the piece that enters the cable and the top side of the hole together. You have to be careful and I am not responsible for any other problems you face.
Thanks for the help, I am experiencing the same thing on my Mate 10 Pro. I will have to try the alcohol trick when I get home.
